I thought that thread was very interesting. I disagreed with it but it was interesting. In our shul there is a youth minyan. So, all the youths are in that separate minyan and in the regular one gelila is not relegated to any one particular group. Well, thats not entirely accurate. Bereishis time we tend toward righties. devarim time we tend toward lefties. And thats just because no one wants to fast. Oh, theres also a few body builder types. We can rely on them all year round!!

By far the best, and most well made nasal pillows are the mirage swift line. Now, nasal pillows are not for everyone. The headgear has a tendency to slip off during the night. I personally think the swift FX is the most comfortable.

Now, If the pillows are too big (even the small size) ask for the Swift LT for Her. It comes with XSmall size pillows. And those pillows will fit the male swift LT headgear.

Ron, the Quattro is a great full face mask. Among the full faces, its by far the easiest to deal with. You may have been perscribed a F/F mask because the sleep techs noticed that you are a mouth breather. Now, most mouth breathing in the presence of sleep apnea is due to the gasping reflex. It can resolve over time with the correction of the sleep apnea. Sometimes it does not self correct, then a F/F mask is in order.

Here are some tips to get used to your F/F mask.

1)Wear your cpap during the day for 20 min at a time, gradually increasing the time you wear it each day. Yes, simple desensitization techniques!!

    2) If you wake during the night, and find it off of you, force yourself to put it back on.

    3) If you cannot force yourself to put it back on, get out of bed and do something else. You will soon be tired enough that after donning the mask, you will fall asleep quickly.

4)Clean your mask every morning with mild soap and water and let air dry. nothing is a gross as a dirty facial oiled mask.

    5) Use adequate humidification. If your machine has the option, let it warm up the water first. Recent studies of machines show that it can take up to an hour for it to reach your desired humidity level.

I hope this was helpful. PS, just so the public is aware, Resmed and respironics have a deal with DME companies that will allow you to return a mask within a month or so if its not working out. But its important to remember that you must must must! give your body a chance to acclimate to the mask.

I would imagine that if someone were to manufacture a marijuana based medication in an appropriate inhalation delivery device I would be for it. Maybe even if it were done in cigarette form. But like all sched 3 drugs, its production and use would have to be controlled. Most proponents just want to have the ability to roll a joint without consequence.

I don’t know, maybe it should be a sched 2 drug.

I was once going through a tough time in my life and a rav I consulted told me you must be some sort of tzaddik that hashem would send you such a nisayon. (This is not to brag but just an illustration) I think you too are now being put through a great nisayon. You have a tremendous opportunity here to provide gentle tochecha and keep sholom. I wish I had some sage advice to give you. I agree with Mamash, the best advice is to consult a rav who can guide you on this. Also choose the rav you ask wisely. Not every rav has a knack for handling things like this. I don’t envy you but surly you must be some sort of tzaddik to have had a nisayon like this sent to you. Don’t mess it up. Ha ha, no pressure right?

Its interesting that though the WHO in the 2009 INN stem book states that b-blockers should end in “olol” carvedilol and labetalol seem to have bucked the rules, I wonder why. In any case I used Goodman and Gilman’s. Very wordy, but a fierce pharm book. Mine is a bit old now. I should get a new one soon.

I would disagree about the hard drives. 1st Dell I had lasted 8 years. I only replaced it since it couldn’t be upgraded anymore. My current one (bought in “04) is just fine. No problems whatsoever. I just upgrade the memory every so often. I have 2 Dell laptops. One from ’99 still truckin’ [albeit with windows98 :(] and one from ’04 still going strong. My experience with Dell has been great.

I just cant understand it. It the equivalent of living in your burned out house that was set on fire by your own neighbors. Not only that, the house is still burning!!

From Wikipedia, Epicurus was a founder and leader of Epicurean thought/philosophy.

Hence Apikous, would be quite a charge and insult. It would intimate that one has completely abrogated the Torah. And denied the divinity of God.

BOR, please don’t take insult from people like that. Asimov said it best. “Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent”.

I would entertain that verbal violence qualifies as well.

Finally an interesting topic!!! I heard a great dvar torah from a rebbi of mine who has since passed away. Its a well known DT. I had asked him about stuff like this and fossil records and the like. And he said the following: The Torahs first letter is a Bet. It is a letter that is blocked off from all side save for the next letter and word and paragraph and so on. It need not concern us what hashem did, or might have done without us or before us. We need to follow the open direction of the letter Bet. Even if there are non humans in the world or there were dinosaurs before us. It doesn’t change the fact that we now, are charged with upholding the Torah and its commandments. As a side note for all you sci-fi fanatics, years ago I read some sci fi book where the aliens that were met, were Jewish. The pic on the cover had a green (of course) alien wearing a talit. And it was written by a serious sci-fi author.

Please please PLEASE enforce wearing a helmet while riding a bike. I work with TBI (traumatic brain injury) patients and even small insults to the brain are devastating, both for the victim and the family. There is no such thing as a short ride where you will not need it, nor is having to wear a hat an excuse. Do what ever it takes to have that helmet on when riding. Even a tricycle.

Day after day. Week after week. Month after month. And year after year we have this debate. its been going on for decades. Sorry to say Charles you are once again coming down on the wrong side of history. As most liberals do. I am always amazed at the persistence of liberals. Despite being proven wrong through the scope of history someone always comes along and thinks that THEY have found the right way to do it. Its always a sham. Its always bunk. Socialized anything has never and will never work. Somewhere in the loop will be a failure. It tends to be a catastrophic failure. Whether finance, medicine, or lawn mowing, its always a failure. Just look around the world and analyze with a true critical eye and you will see the failure of socialism (hello?? Greece anyone??). And in the places that it seems to work? Death , destruction, and despotism reign (Hello?? Venezuela anyone??). The US is the pinnacle of medical r&d. The brightest minds come here. Lets not kill it with this foolishness. We have a choice, Greece or us. EU? Or USA? Charlie? Or Poppa? Obama? or Reagan? I know what I am choosing.

As far believing, of course it is incumbent upon all of us to believe, myself included. That has nothing to do with hope. As far as ABC’s post, most all of what was listed points to the fantastic level of learning and dissemination of Torah. Something that didn’t help the last few time we experienced tremendous tzarot. Are we better steeped in torah now than in the times of the Beit Hamikdash? Than R’ Akiva’s students? Its not just Torah that saves us. It couldn’t save them. I sometimes get the feeling that we have gotten the Torah aspect down we just have waaay waay to go on just simple Derech Eretz and acting like the Torah requires of us. Look, my point was that at the very least, if something big (and usually bad) is coming our way at least maybe a further generation will learn from our mistakes. Unlike us it seems.

Unfortunately, (or fortunately some might say) my job is 90% boredom and 10% sheer terror, panic, and stress. So I do have some time to browse recipes. But that 10% really offsets the 90%. Have a great yom tov and here is my favorite French TOAST recipe.

    4 eggs

    1/2 cup milk

    1/2 tsp ground Cinnamon

    1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Some really good heavy, heimish egg challah.

beat all ingredients. Soak the challah slices and fry over a low/med flame. (oil should not be smoking) flip over when you see tiny fry bubbles popping through the challah slice. Enjoy with (always) real maple syrup.

Ok, so its late and I’m on break at work and I see this thread titled (or so I thought) French Toast recipe. So I click on it thinking I like a good french toast too. And I glaze over the first post saying that they will be making french toast for shavuous. Awsome!! I think. French toast for shavuous. What a great Idea, you could make whole milchig meal out of “breakfast foods”. Then I scroll down and there is ketchup and onions and all that and I think haha what a smart aleck, let me post a real recipe for addict. But as I scroll to the bottom I suddenly realize that the topic is french ROAST!!! Phooey!! I would much rather have french toast. I must be really tired. Good thing the CR keeps me up during the night. Gotta make it till the AM.

I don’t know how people have sunk so far. Dont people realize that until the formation of the US, the history of the the world was terror, violence, and despotism? That people would govern themselves was a crazy novel idea!! We were looked upon (as Kilo says) an experiment. Backwater? Look at what has become of Europe and then tell us that we are backwater. It is only recently that our dear leader (for those who even remember the reference) has led us to the poorhouse and has us emulating Europe. Before that we were the captains of the world. A powerhouse of justice. A force to be called upon when the downtrodden raised their voices. Imperfect yes, but far superior to any alternative. We have lost even the memory of american exceptionalism. How sad.

As usual charlie likes to gemara-kup our countrys floundering situation into some sort of positive. Charlie, a little de Tocqueville would set you straight. And its a free download on Amazon. And no, the 1974 exchange rate had something very wrong. Do you remember 1974? Here in the US?

Now, while you may find single instances where government intervention may work in a limited fashion, the overwhelming evidence is that government social/economic engineering has always led to disaster. Why should we repeat the mistakes of our forebearers? Years ago the was an enormously detailed experiment done regarding this issue, it was decades long. I cant seem to remember the name of the study…. oh yes it was the USSR. The study had to be stopped due to catastrophic failure, death, and destruction. You can nit pick and choose all you like from history. The overall results wil be the same. And every few years some clown comes along and says no!! I know how to do it!! THEY didnt know how, but I do. And its always a failure. A whole line of failures in fact. Castro, Che, Chavez (why do they always have “C” names?)

As for unions, post 1950’s (possibly even earlier)they became useless bloated quasi criminal organizations, that much like our government, sucks its members dry little by little and produces no results. The protections we now enjoy regarding employment all the overtime stuff and holidays are all built into labor law. Some federal and some state. Yes, originally instigated by union activity but what have they done in the past 60 years other than wax politic and donate money to the Democratic party? Nothing, zip, nada. Your on the wrong side of history Charlie. Alexis de Tocqueville. Read him.

“i heard it’s because it’s copying from the Goyim but it doesn’t make sense to me, everything we wear is sort of “copying from the Goyim” no?”

A great assessment. In the 10whatevers gentile royalty wore streimels and bekeshes and somehow that became chassidisheh malbush for all time. Yes, the homberg hats too. Standard yeshivish dress reflects 30’s through 60’s business dress. What makes all this “jewish” or tzniut? I have no idea. The point of this is that the definition of “respectable dress” will change over time. It runs the gamut of Kilts in Ireland to Jalabiya in the middle east. Haberdashery runs from the knit kippah to the Fez from….can anyone guess where? As long as dress is respectable and within the confines of halachah, it should be left alone.

If this is the case for you, you will prob see a great improvement once you switch to a fluoride water/rinse.

I want to see his death. The people who died at the trade center didn’t get a choice on the publicity of their deaths. And he wont either. I want to see the bloodied, macerated flesh of the (what they say were) 2 shots to the face. I want to see the nekamah meted out against him. I can only wish that they release the footage of the actual shooting so I myself can be witness to the final death throes of that murderous animal. In my head I replay with glee his final moments. I’m not going to get too graphic, it would probably disturb alot of people. Suffice it to say that even head shots are not instantly fatal. After I heard the news I composed a small and silent prayer to hashem thanking him for meting out justice via the hands of US military.

Its not about the meat, its about doing something for yourself that you would not normally do. Ok, so I don’t know what girls would do to celebrate exactly, but anything that you wouldn’t normally do for yourself is a present to yourself. Me I would do guy thing like rent an awesome car for a day, or have that steak dinner, or maybe even a pedicure. NOT!! Point is I treat a celebration of myself the same way I treat giving a gift to someone else. I give them something that I know they would really enjoy but would never ever spend the time and/or money on.

I shave with a beard trimmer without the plastic length selector cover. Its a panasonic model and without the cover it shaves pretty close. So I look shaved but if you were to touch my face it would feel rough. Its kind of my way of shaving but not taking advantage and going completely “clean”. Who knows? Try it maybe it will be sufficient.

The lesson being that only someone with something to hide would protest (or post) so much about it. Like a person going on and on how its so hard to be physician and that they have gone through soooo much schooling and that they know all about medicine and the rest of us don’t all the while, the only medical shool they have gone too is the internet university , doctor W. Health, will you please finally clarify what your credentials are? Are you a medical student? A PA? An RN? An EMT? What? Most of the health info you seem to point to always comes from Dr. W.W. Web, though from reputable sites so that is commendable. But you always seem to have some snarky comment for others that give medical advice. Your comment to meWho screams “methinks the lady doth protest too much”. (Kudos to those who get the reference) And that is just one in a long line of medical posts where your attitude just doesn’t seem to be in agreement with the attitudes/behavior of an MD or even a medical student or a medical anybody for that matter. I will paraphrase from a post I made a while ago. I think that those people who identify themselves and/or pose as medical doctors should provide credentials as such (to the mods). If you don’t/can’t/won’t, thats fine too. But your medical posts should then be ammended with a disclaimer that you are claiming your a physician but didn’t provide any credentials and your advice and reprimands will be given the same weight as a laymans. Which in the age of the internet is….not much.
