    nom,
    1. How old were you when Rudy got elected?
    3. In Lakewood and Rockland, 90% of the times there is unity in the Frum olam, the anti Frum such as Preserve Ramapo and rise up Ocean managed to organize a anti Frum vote, for example I get spam from Preserve Ramapo and they wrote that candidate X will be supported by the “bloc” so we will endorse the other guy, nothing about qualifications just the fact that the other has Frum backing

    two points,
1 The Torah is not egalitarian, everything from laws of inheritance to witnesses to service in the bais hamikdosh is not equal, in spite of attempts by people like Avi Weiss, it is not equal nor will it ever be.
    2. Having worked in both corporate America and the government I can tell you that if your halfway competent and black doors will open for you and never are open for anyone else, so to say that there is prevalent racism out there is bogus.

@Eli51, wow his shver was active in every part of the yeshiva, nothing happened without his say so, Reb Moshe Dov Stein managed the colony but it was the yeshivas. Some of my best memories are the Motza Shabbos Campfire with Rav Shlomo Friefeld and Rav Shmual Brazil.

@ Godol Hatorah: “They are fortunate because I suspect many frum families don’t have the time, resources or motivation to pursue this type of summer vacation.”
The resources are there this year as is the time, the money they saved in camp fees can be used for a road trip, its most likely be far less was camp cost unless they went on full scholarship.

The practical learning that they pick up during the trips stays with them for life.
For example we went tidal bore rafting in Nova Scotia where during the high tide the river reverses flow and my kids learnt about high tides and low tide and the gravitation pull that differs during the month.
We also visited the Jewish Cemetery in Halifax NS were the Jewish steerage victims of the Titanic are buried.
At Yellowstone a Ranger explained to the elk migrated to a area of the park that then were never in after the wolf were introduced
In Gatlinburg we went to the crafts village and saw how various item are made.

It would be a shame to squander the opportunity given now that camps have been canceled.
PS with the internet its very easy set up minyanim with your fellow travelers.

these days bungalow colonies hardly exist, 75% of the places are summer homes owned by the individual. In fact you can no longer build bungalows in the Towns of Thompson, Fallsburg, Bethel or Liberty they need to be summer homes, the remainder are grandfathered in. The rules for summer homes are the same in the Catskills, Hamptons or Berkshires they are open.

Every year I gave my kids a choice of camp or a two week road trip, they would always pick a road trip.
We have been has far east as Nova Scotia, as far west as the Big Sur coast, as far north as Northern Alberta and as far south as the Copper Canyon of Chihuahua.
My Kids have seen the tall sequoia trees, the vast deserts of Arizona, the awesome mountains of the Rockies and thunder of waterfalls.
We went rafting, jet skiing, horse back riding, hiking, crafts making and off roading.
Yes my kids missed the major plays, color war, line ups and camp food
My advice is that if you have the time take the money you saved from camp fees and take the kids on a road trip.

“To add to what Huju said, you spread droplets when you talk or sing. The louder you are, the more droplets you spread”
for the past month there has been loud protests in the New York area with very loud screaming and vast majority no wearing masks and zero social distancing, yet NYS, NJ and CT is showing testing less then 1% positives on all tests for the past two weeks.

    3 factors:
    1. NYC as a whole took a hard turn to the left, someone like Rudy could never get elected today.
2 The ethnic Europeans who we were able to count on help with to push a common agenda no longer exist they all move away, for example Benonhurst and Bay Ridge were mostly Irish and Italians, Greenpoint was Polish, certain areas of the Bronx were Albanians, most of these moved away and those districts went left.
    3. The Frum people became the issue, with Footsteps Etc., books by Deen, Feldman and Company, it became fashionable to knock the Frum community. This led to formation of groups like Preserve Ramapo/Rockland, Save Monroe, Rise up Orange County.
So anyone running for office has to make a decision who they want to support the Frum or the Anti Frum, there is no common ground anymore.

@Health, Actually Don was center / center left kind of a moderate blue dog dem on the few time that we talked politics, it was a learning experience for both of us. I had to teach him about Shabbos, Kosher etc. and he told me about life in rural Appalachia. The funnies conversations was when he would speak to my wife and she would speak in Brooklynese and he would talk in Appalachian and they hardly understood each other.

@ Lower tution, hate to break it to you but South Nassau is hardly a major hospital, in fact is from the bottom 1/3 of bed capacity in NYS. Should I be given a choice of South Nassau or LIJ that is 8 miles away I would pick LIJ without a shadow of a doubt and so would 90% of the people in the 5 towns.

Syag, on the contrary, Actually I know discrimination against Frum people is alive and well, I experienced it first hand, I was not hired numerous times even if I was the most qualified person because I am a visibly Frum person.
One of the funniest interviews I ever had was with a guy who was from rural Kentucky who never met a Jew in his life and asked me to explain “what that thing on my head is” I got the job anyway and he was one of the nicest people I ever worked for.
What I was bringing out in my comment is that as a rule once you are working at a place they generally don’t care about Shabbos or Yom tov as long as you carry your weight.
In any event we are veering off topic of Bostock v Clayton

@Health. Interesting, I worked for the Federal and NYC government as well corporate America, I never had an issue with Shabbos with one exception, once when I had a openly anti semtic boss who once wrote me a nasty email once for leaving early of Friday, I spoke to the number two person in HR who spoke to her and I never had an issue again.
The one time I had an issue when I was the finalist to get hired for NYC and my boss who was African American and wanted to hire the other finalist who was a African American, long story but I ended up getting the job, and this had nothing to do with Shabbos just that he preferred a African American.

@some1, Masterpiece Cakeshop v Colorado allows for religious exemptions for same sex accommodations therefore it affect yeshivas.
As to the second part, that was the whole crux of this case, does the sex discrimination part of the Civil Right Act of 1964 including bases on orientation or just gender? and the Court ruled it to be broadly defined.

@Joesph the only time one gets called on the carpet for posting a bigoted comment on the internet is when that person is in the position of power and it may reflect negatively on the perception of unequal treatment, therefore they have a right [and possible obligation] to terminate that person.
In the case of Bostock all he did was promote his gay baseball league, he certainly didn’t make negative remarks about heterosexuals.
In the case of Holly Lobby there are religious exceptions to workplaces.
So If someone works for Avis, Delta, Verizon or my local plumber and is a man who wears a dress who cares

Joseph, it depends if your in a collective bargaining unit , then your contract rules supreme, most places of employment when they hire you usually put a clause in the hiring agreement saying they have a right to terminate you if you post something on social media that will reflect badly on the cooperate image.
A far cry from have a trans working a counter at a airline gate or serving meals in a restaurant.
PS its obvious that you never worked outside the daled amos of the frum area.

@Joesph, this is probably one of the few times I agree with Charlie Hall, The police and the governmental agencies have unions and are part of the bargaining unit and in the contract it would spell out limits of behavior outside of work, if your job involves public trust you can and need to be held to a higher standard.
If an employee sells cameras, rents me a car or works in a library and is a male who is wearing a dress how does that diminish public trust.

@Coffee, you obviously have no clue about white water rafting , during the spring time water is very cold the water temps average about mid sixties and air temps was mid sixties, no one wears a bathing suit in that weather. Some people wore wetsuits [that covers the entire body and is like a suit], so to answer your question sorry but no skin was showing, it was way too cold.
BTW summer time I have flown on planes with people who were showing more skin then you seen at most pools

The trend to own summer homes vs renting a bungalow started about 25 years ago, now about 75% of the people own units vs renting them so my guess is that there will be minimal changes in the number of people going, if anything with sleepaway camps closed in NYS there will be a greater demand for housing in the Catskills,
