    Welcome back, Avi K.

in reply to: Poll: Do you think I have a beard? #1067449

It didn’t take much sharpness or brightness to Google [“ben sira” beard].

Anyway, “If B, then A” does not follow from “If A, then B.”

As for the point of this thread… (Do threads need points?) How about,

“to demonstrate that our impressions or assumptions can be mistaken?”

But how did HaLeiVi make that second post without having

in reply to: Fast songs #1072190

Also, Grooveshark (a site that plays music for free) has the three songs by IE (listed as”ise kif” and “Rakata” in addition to “Im Ein Ani”).

in reply to: Fast songs #1072189

    Re: http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/fast-songs#post-550278

Part of the trouble you had with finding the songs might have been

because I’d, shall we say, improvised some titles (generally a

bad idea), and was also using the incorrect track numbers from my

little brother’s old iPod for the CI songs (that’s how I heard of

    those singers).

The albums are on Mostly Music as “Itzik Eshel – Rak Ata 1” and

“Chaim [or Haim] Israel – Words of Prayer,” with preview clips

    only for CI.

On Israel-music, IE’s is called “Only You – Part 1,” “Words of

Prayer” is again listed under Chaim Israel, and both have

nine-minute album previews with low audio quality

(the CI samples are not the same as the Mostly Music ones).

The samples of the songs I mentioned start at

the following times in the Israel-music previews:

    CI:

    “Rak Elokim” – :45,

    “Ahava Balev” – 4:30

“Chatan Kala” (YL) – 3:00 (You won’t hear the part I was thinking of.)

    IE:

    Im Ein Ani 0:00

    Rak Ata – 4:30

    Eize Kif – 6:00

I don’t have one. If you’re looking for recommendations,

I might be able to help you, though.

Welcome back, you two! I wonder if LVT will show up soon…

in reply to: Does foul language make things assur? #1148801

There’s also the Branah option. Whether the mods allow the link or

not, you should be able to Google it. It’s good for small amounts.

in reply to: Poll: Do you think I have a beard? #1067446

I have one beard, not white, long, nor split, but probably scraggly.

(Thanks for the over-estimation, Little Froggie.)

in reply to: am I behind times? #1066061

Shortly before Purim, I think. You may have noticed other users subtitled “Joseph” or who have had it added to their names in parentheses.

Joseph has used many names – “Lior” was apparently one of them.

    Rabi Elazar ben Pedos?

in reply to: Poll: Do you think I have a beard? #1067443

It was in the “E-pals” thread. I’d wondered how

many people saw it before the thread was deleted.

Has anyone yet clearly explained the difference between nivel peh and curse words?

I can try: Nivul peh is described in Chapter 11 of Mesilas Yeshorim.

Anything else is, I assume, not nivul peh. Another concept that may prove useful is lashon n’kiyah. Can someone provide the location of the story of the Kohen who described the size of his portion of lechem haponim as

“the tail of a sheretz ?”

I’ve been getting modded quite a bit this week, or maybe it only

feels that way because it hasn’t been happening much recently.

Catch Yourself, the four phone calls were numbers to call

to start receiving local papers – I think they were four out

of these five: Voice of Lakewood, Lakewood Shopper, Masa U’Matan,

BP Graphics (BP Weekly), and ACM (The Lakewood Weekly).

The mods have not allowed me to post numbers.

She should probably look up Lakewood Courier in the

phone book and ask them to add her address – they deliver

most if not all of the above.

Do they make shirts without collar-point buttons?

    in reply to: 0-11 #1065506

No. (I think your reasoning that a mod’s civilian

account would not have been blocked was correct.)

I was just noting that that mod might have used

my way of saying that I had not been understood,

which I hadn’t known if anyone understood.

    Thread title: 126

    What should a Rebbe do?

Besides coming on time with a tie and giving good classes that don’t make you Bored, a rebbi has to do a lot. He should make sure everyone has Chavrusas, even the Gritty kids.

He should take care of the boys’s health by making sure they eat

Yogurts, asking them “How many hours of sleep do you get in one night?,” and giving them Sleeping tablets if they need them.

He should be friendly with them by helping them make Noodle soups, playing Football with them and even being their Football role model, and wishing them Mazol Tov when it’s their birthday.

He should tell them Good Stories about R Chaim Pinchas Scheinberg,

Dovid HaMelech, and The greatest person who ever lived. By the time they leave his class, there shouldn’t be Any miracle stories from gedolim that they haven’t heard, and they should even remember Marcus Lehmann.

He should teach them Torah codes, but not Kabbalah, even The Zohar, and never tell them Spooky stories about shaidim, Talking to the dead, Half dying, Dybbuks, or The result of my first Kabbalah session, or even scary stories from the news about Terror leaders, an Explosion at Iranian nuclear facility, North Korea vs South Korea, Nuclear Iran, Isis having fighter jets or, worst of all, a Frankfurt meat shop caught selling triefe meat.

He should teach them not to have iPhones, but if they really want to anyway, he should teach them about using only Good jewish apps, watching only Good jewish videos, and using only Good jewish websites to look for Jobs online, and not to use iTunes to listen to Lipa schmeltzer, because Modern music is bad.

Even after they leave his class, he should come to their wedding and even buy a Gift for their kallah.

I put it all together! Can you put it all together? Do you know who I am now? [The answer was supposed to be Alter.]

I have ruach hakodesh and I can prove it.

in reply to: seeking school-related position #1065510

    Okay, I messed up.

I thought the Lakewood List (it’s actually made for people who live in Baltimore) had a list of numbers to call to receive the local

publications, but the ones I have in the house don’t. Can anyone from Lakewood remember where the text “Some say you’re not an official Lakewood resident until you’ve made these four phone calls” comes from?

    The what?

in reply to: Yidl mitn ridl (Hilchos tzitzis) #1072013

Okay, I may have been laboring under the misconception that one

does not fulfill the mitzvah with a garment if he was already

wearing it before the time when one is obligated in tzitzis.

Thus, it stood to reason that if one cannot fulfill the mitzvah in that case, he would also not be nullifying it if the tzitzis were posul.

But maybe that’s totally wrong, in which case I retract the riddle.

Can I get some help here from someone who, unlike me,

    knows what they’re talking about??

in reply to: Yidl mitn ridl (Hilchos tzitzis) #1072012

    Mammele / R.T.:

Correct, but I accidentally left out “in the normal fashion”

from the second and third revisions of the riddle.

    (Version 4.0)

How is it possible for a Jewish adult male (of sound mind and not an ????) to wear (in the normal fashion, in the daytime) his own tallis or tallis koton (of the proper size) which is posul, without modifying or damaging it, and yet not be mevatel the mitzvah of tzitzis?

    mobico:

    “Without modifying or damaging it.”

    Josh31:

While I’m sure your first answer is incorrect,

I don’t know about the second. You might be right,

although I doubt it. It’s not what I had in mind, though.

If she can get her hands on a Lakewood List (also known locally

as a “Baltimore phone book” [the people who make it live there]), she can start getting the local publications and looking at their classified sections.

Metaphors are usually used to help people get your point

by applying it in another context where they’ll understand

why you’re right. If your metaphor doesn’t match up with

what you’re trying to say, people might get annoyed.
