I grew up in the midwest and currently live in Flatbush. I have to say that I think the difference between the two is over rated. There are nice people, fast people, slow people and patient and impatient people in both places. As a general rule though the east coast is slightly more competitive than oot. I think the biggest difference I found in the two places is that oot the schools are much more of a mix so the yeshivish kids are exposed to less yeshivish kids and visa versa. Being that the kids grow up more exposed to all jews they come out more open minded and less in a bubble of their “type”
I personally love french manicures. There is a chineese salon that I go to that does it for ten adn then u tip.

Geshmakke Mentch this sounds like a guy I dated. He was definitely hashkafically compatible, and not too loud to quiet etc but he was just way to negative. In conversation there were just too many negative comments or tones. He also discussed previous dates, not in great depth but I believe you should not discuss previous dates with your current dates. Anyway I said no and have no regrets. Hatzlocha with your decision!
coffee I have nothing against people who accept gov programs. in fact I think if your eligible and don’t take it your silly. im just saying before you go and bash the democrats recognize that they are the policial party that supports all these programs.
goq yea i know but what popped in my head when I read it was how people make me nervous when they have political rants and they dont know what they are talkign about and since its kind of on topic (since u mentioned obama) i just replied with that.
I went to a BY sem and occassionally we got photo copies of sheets of gemara. We did not “learn” the gemara. The teacher just gave us the sheets so we can see the 3 sentences inside. There is no Tosfos and Rashi going on. Also, I heard that in the very chassidish girls schools the girls are not taught anything inside – not even chumahs and navi.
Goq welcome to the blame Obama club. The name of the game is to blame everything on him and not to know the other side of the story at all. Just remember all you out there on programs – you got to thank the Democrats for that. I am not at all saying Obama is wonderful just that before you start spewing your anti Obama and democrats are destroying the world rants please get your facts straight and know both sides of the story. After knowing the complete picture if you still come out a radical republican at least you’ll sound intelligant when you argue politics.

Happiest a single girl can be a midwife even when she is single. If frum people won’t use her she can get non frum clients.
The girl I know who is a doula is definitely not a nurse. It was more like a short course to get a certificate. I guess midwives are a lot more qualified than doulas.
Health you are right frum people probably won’t hire a single girl as a birthing coach but it doesn’t mean she can’t go into that field and help non frum people. My point was that people should not look down on a single girl who is a birthing coach.
I know a frum single BY graduate who is a doula. I don’t see whats wrong with it. Your marital status should not be a factor in the career you go into.
A family friend of ours is a lawyer. There was once a case where a truck carrying heimish candy was an accident and the merchandise on the truck was destroyed. The heimish candy company wanted to sue the trucking company for the heimish price of the candy where as the truckign company only wanted to reimburse for the regular price of the candy. Our family friend was the lawyer for the trucking company. The end result of the case was that the heimish company was not able to prove that they had added value to candy and they lost the case.
It’s a hard stage. I can definitely feel your pain. Try to find some new friends even if they are older or younger than you. Find something you enjoy doing and take it up. Enjoy your last few years where all you have to think about is yourself and live it up. Yes that sounds selfish but its true, you have the time and money now enjoy it! When you sleep in late on Shabbos and Sunday enjoy it, your friends with kids can’t do that. All in all don’t waste your single years moping that you are not married. Do something productive that you can look back at be proud of.

Why can’t a divorced women become a social worker. If you don’t want to take a marriage advice from someone divorced I hear your point, but most social workers are not therapists. Social workers work in nursing homes and hospitals to help patients and their families. They work in the school system and child welfare programs to help kids. Just because someone is divorced they shouldn’t be able to have a career that helps people???????

a good boy is a very broad term. i have plenty of friend that won’t look at a boy who is learning full time. they say what is his plan to support a family. on the other hand plenty girls won’t look at boys who are in school or working because why is he not learning. everyone has to do whats right for them and stop attacking everyone else.
There are two kinds of online programs – one that is just message board based and one that there is actual interactive classses that you have to attend. I did my undergrad for accounting 75% online thru message board based classes. I would really not recommend that. My sisters both did their speech therapy masters online and they both had interactive classes where they had to be online at a certain time for class, saw the teacher via webcam and were called on to answer questions. If you are going to do it online look into program first and make sure there are actual classes. You will learn a lot more that way!
Joseph I really hope this is a joke. If not, I think you should let the girl know that you were considering dumping her because she did not wear heels. I will guarantee you that once she knows that she will dump you and run as far away from you as her flat wearing legs can carry her.
