cofeefanMember
rebbitzen- YAY! will this be ur first date?! this is what i do… test like 30 min before ur supposed to leave. then make it go a little higher that way u have a bit of a “safe zone” if you drop ull dropp to normal. CARRY WINKIES/GLUCOSE TABS!!! if u feel shakey excuse urself to the bathroom and have some of those! as far as not being able to test… you never wwent 3 hours without testing?!? you’ll be fine! i have confidence in you!!!
cofeefanMemberallsgr8- i have NO IDEA who you are i just always think maybe we do know eachother idk. and no im not so secretive but i dont flaunt it… lol i just think its funny how we live in the same place (i think…..) and we dont know eachother! i always wanted to know someone with type 1! and now i cant wait to see the newsletter so i could guess which ones you wrote! i hope i’ll be able to figure it out!
princess- where are you from that insurance would take it away? my insurance gives it to ppl with less control quicker than someone with good control! when i wanted to switch pumps we have to get letters with my higher a1cs signed by my dic etc.
cofeefanMemberthats sooo cool allsgr8!! which ones did you write?!?! i didnt get the pesach one!! and hello we forsure know eachother but bec we dont know its us and we both hide our D we wld never know lol!
cofeefanMemberwhy do you doubt we’ll meet allsgr8?
princess- i get the newsletter but never really read them for some reason. as far as the questions u posted before- i am on the omnipod for 3 years now and i love it! what pump are you on? how do you like it? do people know abt ur D or do u keep it a secret?
cofeefanMemberlol =)
cofeefanMember“one last point: your comments generally upset other posters more than they help.”
u can say that again!!!!!!!
cofeefanMemberlol allsgr8- you wldnt see my pump! oh well i guess we’ll jst have to keep on guessing! but dont worry all the people i guess are cute and sweet and pretty! lol
cofeefanMemberi have diabetes for a 9 years now. i also wish there was a way to meet…. i hate to admit it but i always wonder if we met eachother at some point but dont know it… like i sometimes think “maybe she’s allsgr8…. etc” lol
princess- wow 15 yrs is a long time! u prob have a lot of stories! btw are you in shidduchim too?
cofeefanMemberprincess- welcome! im glad you discovered us! lol
i am type 1 and my young 20s. so are rebbitzen and allsgr8. what about u? how long have you had D?
cofeefanMemberhey reb i noticed on the “Anxiety” thread you were talking abt antianxiety pills. i hope im not being nosy and rude but does it have to do with ur D? do the pills affect ur sugar? (if im being too rude or pushy please disregard the question! i do not wanna make you feel uncomfortable in any way!)
cofeefanMember“ZeesKite I believe @mytake was referring to cofeefan and the cow :)”
hey as long as no one is calling ME a cow i’m good 😉 thanks fpr the wishes!
cofeefanMemberreb- i used to be the same way with my sites but now the omnipod forces me to change it every 2-3 days bec it uns out of insulin but i ttly understand how you feel! i feel that when i put in the sensor thats why i dont always put it in. i try to put some ice on it for a while and it COMPLETELY numbs it and i dont feel when it goes in! why dont you try it?
PrincessEagle- Welcome! you a type 1 Diabetic too?
cofeefanMemberthank you Mother thats EXACTLY what im feeling!!! well said!
cofeefanMemberthats cute 😉
i’m in the same boat with you zeeskite! Refuah Shelayma!
hope you feel better soon!
cofeefanMemberwho says i dont treat low blood sugars?!?! i do! i know its sooooo dangerous!!! i lowered my A1c the “old fashion way” diet exercise and monitoring. while you might not think 6.6 is good i am proud of it and i will continue to work hard. and btw please dont say keeping an avg bg of 90 is very attainable cuz its really not! like i said you dont know (and hopefully never should…) a lot goes into it and its not something that will go away so i am doing the best i can! i am healthy and strong and i thank Hashem every day for helping me get to the 6.6 and thats all i am gonna say abt the matter! have a great night!
cofeefanMember“You are still young (and the others who post here) -so you live in the here and now,”
i happen not to live in the here and now i am a HUGE worryer so i know all the bad things that could happen which is why i am so controlled. but i hear what you are saying so i guess thanks for trying to help.
as far as you saying most people dont feel it till its in the fiftys, thats not true (for me at least…) i can tell the second it drops down to lower than 75 and it gets worse the lower it is (if i wake up at night feeling shaky, i can always tell how low it is jst by feeling and 90% of the time i am right… i think thats so cool lol) every person is different but i think most diabetics will agree with me when i say we always know when were low before the under 50 mark. 50 is DANGEROUSLY low!!! as someone in the medical feild you prob know that
cofeefanMemberallsgr8- if your not happy with ur doc u shld consider mine she’s soooo good!!!!
reb- i HATE when that happens!! any ideas why? sometimes the liver releases some glucose because it senses it needs it.(or something like that.. my doc mentioned that once but i dont really understand it…..) or could it be a pump malfunction?
i hope it went down and you feel better soon!!
cofeefanMemberhealth- i could see y ur not a shrink…. and yes i agree with allsgr- having an A1C of under 6 means the AVERAGE blood sugar is around 95 which means that there would be a lot of lows. and like Allsgr8 asked- what kind of medicine do you practice that you know so much about diabetes?
cofeefanMemberthe target i am quoting is straight from my endo who i have been using for 5+ years who is a TOP doctor and says that my A1C of 6.6 is perfect so forgive me if i skip all the reading and just listen to my doc.
im not saying ur wrong u ARE right, the lower the A1C the better but when we are struggling with diabetes to get o the 6.6 or 6.7 in fedups case, let us relish in our success instead of saying it should be ideally <6. This will be very difficult to attain.” Keep trying!
just what i am feeling
cofeefanMemberour thread is active just look for it!hope u come on by and share with the rest of us type 1 Diabetics there =)
cofeefanMemberallsgr8- im sooooo excited for you!!!! and im also excited that some1 else is “hooked” on the omnipod… (am i the only one who thought the way you said it was HYSTERICAL… were hooked onto a pump get it?!? lol) a pump will totally change ur D for the better!!! i cant wait to hear what you think about it! i think that a minimed “person” wouldnt hurt cuz you never know what features they have/dont have/ will be coming out with etc. (as long as its a free consultation that is….) wtvr you chose i hope ur decision is easy and u get what you need!!
cofeefanMemberi missed the whole story with you eclipse. some1 told me there was a thread that you said the whole story…. any1 know where i could find it? just so i can be caught up.
cofeefanMemberyay no lows today!!! lol
how did you all manage with purim??
i wanted all the nosh!
cofeefanMemberhealth- it should be under 6 for NON DIABETICS…… for diabetics it should be under 7. of course the lower the better but in the 6s is what is good for diabetics
cofeefanMemberi agree with you dx3- horrible cycle with the lows/ highs! that is one of the most frutrating things for me! i get STARVING when im low so i eat everything in sight sometimes and end up being high and neededing to take correction and then go low again!!! AHHHHH!!!
cofeefanMemberfedup- thats AMAZING BEYOND WORDS!!! WAY TO GO!! i know how hard that could be (i finally got mine to 6.6!) you should be proud! why dont you join our diabetes support group thread?!?
cofeefanMemberdx3- thanks for feeling bad i also feel bad… i am so sick of diabetes at this point… i go through these phases of just hating it…. i have at least 4 lows a day and i cant stand looking at winkies or orange juice anymore!!! i adjusted my basals but bec im not eating carbs its not really working idk wtvr!!! AHHH! i know that D is not a massive deall compared to other things in the world but its normal to get down abt having it right?!?
and i cant believe you fast! how are you able to do it? im amazed
cofeefanMemberlol yogibooboo…. thats funny!
cofeefanMemberso frustrating!! i had 5 lows today!!! why? because im not eating enough carbs… why?? because im trying to lose weight… why??? because we live in a crazy world that you have to be a size-2 to be considered pretty!! but because of the diabetes i keep having lows so i keep having to eat something but it wont stay up!so i keep having to eat! i am BEYOND frustated!!!! why is it so much harder for diabetics to lose weight?!?!
ok i feel better now just venting lol
cofeefanMemberkapusta- i agree with you about the tehillim… by best friend once gave me the best advice when i was going through a hard time, she said “if you feel like you have to cry, say tehillim so your tears will have a direction!” and it always helps make me feel better knowing the tearss/emotions are going somewhere!
cofeefanMemberwas an assistant now a teacher:
cofeefanMembercan i point out something?
parents; when planning out your purim schedule… dont forget abt the assistant teachers!! i know its a hard day to get to everyone but dont forget, when the teacher is teaching, the assistant is busy with the “little” things…. making copies, getting bandaids, checking homework, reviewing with the kids who need special attention etc….. just because they are not the main teacher doesnt mean they dont devote just as much or that they dont love your kids the same way the teacher does because they do! but of course if there is only time for one there is no question the regular teacher goes first!but if you have time and it fits into your plan dont think theyre not important! i know i couldnt manage without my WONDERFUL assistant!!!! they do more than you think!
just wanted to put that idea out there! thanks for listening!
cofeefanMemberi am a teacher and i always appreciate whatever the kids give! i LOVE when they come on purim its so fun to see them out of the classroom and having a good time! i know its hard for parents to come on purim (all the traffic….) so i appreciate them making the trek!!
cofeefanMemberthats interesting…. is there also a thing that diabetics also have a harder time losing weight or is that just me?
cofeefanMemberif we arent supposed to open it…. why did they send it early in the fisrt place?!?
and i ALWAYS read the end of a book before i start it… i dont know why
March 13, 2011 3:14 pm at 3:14 pm in reply to: Are you very selective in dating or do you date everyone? #749003cofeefanMemberi’m not selective at all. as long as theyre not an axe murderer or a psycho i give them a chance….
cofeefanMemberthank you for your chizuk! you always know what to say allsgr8!!!
but im not talking just for shidduchim. (though its a huge part!!) people are so insensitive! it always bothers me how they think that the diabetes comes from being not exactly the perfect size/weight. im not saying im a normal weight but im not massive! i wish they would learn the difference between the 2 types so that i dont have to keep explaing it. when i was diiagnosed 9 years ago i was under 100 pounds and way too skinny! now its just my genes that causes me to be the way i am! i eat very healthy i exercise but im never gonna be a size 2 or even close to that! im fine with that id rather be healthy. but im sick and tired of people thinking that im not because they are ignorant to what diabetes really is! (and just btw i am not massively overweight its insane how people think!)
cofeefanMemberallsgr8- thats what i eat now… except therea coffee for breakfast and ww pita with lunch of salad and tuna. and i also have a fruit in between. i am so frustrated with the world right now. if im not a size 2 i am considered fat. ot doesnt matter if i am healthy and a good person im fat so i obviously i dont care about myself….. so now i have to go on a big diet even when i eat healthy as is….
cofeefanMemberanyone have any ideas how i could lose weight quickly?! crash diets are not for diabetics and i cant do a ton of exercise either
cofeefanMemberdx3- i also asked a shayla and was also told that its totally fone to use it on shabbos but i dont feel comfortable. of course if i have to i wont think twice about using it! there is no question!! but if i can use a syringe i might as well not touch the buttons… thats just the way i feel i am prob being silly because i could use the PDM….
as far as the cgms…. i personally would thinkit’s worth it to have both even if i have to change it every 3 days… thats what i am doing with the omnipod now…. when i wear the sensor my skin btreaks out from wearing the adhesive fore longer than 3 days anyways so i a lot of times take it off soon after that anyway…. i guess time will tell…..
allsgr8- i am the same way which is why i only wear it for one week every 6 weeks or so because i HATE seeing it go up even though its supposed to… but i like seeing how the basal rates are. its a great thing to have i didnt think id like it but for once in a while i really think it helps me understand D better… you can try one from ur doc prob……
cofeefanMemberforever1- i dont really go out on shabbos but when i do its just for a short time so i leave it home and dont eat wherever i go or just correct when i come home (i dont use the PDM on shabbos as a general thing i use shots…..) and for weddings i give a time release/extended blous (another gr8 feature but i think a lot of pumps have that)i can say how long i want it to drag out for so that way by the time the meal comes its basically all given already. sometimes i have to drink something sugary before the meal comes bec i drop a bit with the insulin without food…. but that doesnt always happen. and then i leave the PDM in my coat or in the bathroom in the corner if its the summer…
its great bec the PDM doesnt need to be close to the pod all the time. only when programming a bolus! so i can leave it wherever i want…..
dx3- i am WAITING for the CGMS combo with omnipod!!! i wish i knew how long we have to wait!!!!!
reb- my ENTIRE family has thyroid issues so i asked my doc abt it and she said that diabetics are at a higher risk for thyroid problems. so dont worry its connected…. but i understand what you are feeling….. i’m waiting for my thyroid issues to start lol….. i feel so left out from my family being the only one with normal thyroid! 😉
cofeefanMemberI thought about how mothers feed their babies with tiny little spoons and forks, so I wondered what do Chinese mothers use. Toothpicks?
Why is a person who plays the piano called a pianist, but a person who drives a racecar is not called a racist?
Why do croutons come in airtight packages? Aren’t they just stale bread to begin with?
cofeefanMemberi wear the pod on my stomach most of the time, once in a while on my legs. i find it sticks better to the stomach and is more comft for me there too.
and yes it has a meter on the PDM! uses freestyle strips
cofeefanMemberthe omnipod is not that big forever1- its thinner than most cell phone and about the legnth of an egg (not as wide as an egg but you get what im saying…lol) when wearing tights or stockiins, it pushes it in so that it is invisible (….if you are not looking for it of course) the other part of it… the PDM is the size of a blackberry and everyone asssumes thats what it is when i am “playing” with it!
cofeefanMemberoh yes they do guy-ocho!!!
cofeefanMemberi unfortunatly have massive scarring issues for some reason. i have to roatate the site from one place to the total opposite side otherwise its a mess lol
cofeefanMemberallsgr8- and occlusion is when the pump for some reason has an air bubble or the tube is bent so it blocks insulin delivery. my issues all had to do with that. its weird i could have like 3 occlusions in a row (SUCH a waste on insulin but i started taking some of it out…. thats a diff story;) and then not have another one for months! BH bli ayin hara i have not had an occlusion in prob 3 months!!! i learned where i can put it that doesnt have scar tissue under the skin cuz thats makes a lot of occlusion probs. and also a few difff tricks, like pushing the bottom of the pod down while it injects itself (another HUGE plus btw… all you have to do is push some buttons and it inserts the tube itself…) there are a lot of hints that you learn with ANY pump over time. remember that anything is gonna be different and therefore difficult to adjust to.
before the omnipod i was on the deltec cosmoniter. i was so thrilled with that. it was big and bulky and i didnt like the long wire it had. before that was the animas pump but that was at least 6 years ago! might have been one between there too…. i cant remember. i have been on the omnipod for 3 yrs now so even if i did rememebr the products well it wouldnt really be helpful if i list them because technology moves sooo fast that the pumps now are so different than the ones a few years back! sorry! but i know abt the omnipod lol!
cofeefanMemberallsgr8- yay! considering is a huge step! i’m all for the omnipod… its discreet and for you, having no one know and wanting it to be a secret i think thats a huge plus for you. its very easy to learn how to use it and has a lot of great features. i love that it has a built in food database with calories and carbs etc for a lot of food! it does have its issues, all pummps do! i think that it sometimes has a lot of occlusions if you dont do exactly what ur supposed to but the costumer service is FABULOUS!! they send ppl down to help you and their phone service is great too! i have pulled it out a couple of times buut that is the same with any pump infusion sets!
whatever you chose just make sure that YOU are happy with it and that you are confident in using it! gluck in ur decision!!
cofeefanMemberlol zeeskite lets call a peace treaty…… friends?!?
cofeefanMember“With such attitudes, any of you engaged?”
look zeeskite- maybe its just me… and it prob is….. but you saying that in my HUMBLE opinion… not the nicest way to start off something. who are you to say why i’m not engaged?!? I’m sure i’m just being too sensitive and you didnt mean to say it like that but to me thats how it came accross to me. if you didnt mean it like that then forget the whole thing;)
