zahavasdad: Give me an example in those areas you mentioned of over 2000 girls and boys in five or so streets and two small stores.

BPT: “I was in the process of trying to break my CR addiction (as so far, was doing quite well!) but since you asked, the answer is no.”

Good for you. I’m trying, unsuccessfully to do the same

“I still check in from time to time. Not so much to see if I’m missed, (was I?) “

yep, I noticed a number of threads/posts calling out for you recently

MichaelC: “Rabbi Falk would say if its the minhag of the community then Kol hakovod, if its not it could show gaava. “

No he wouldn’t. Stop putting rediculous quotes into Rabbi Falk’s mouth.

in reply to: changing username #955197

    nope, sorry.

What I told you works for me.

in reply to: Separate Times For Bochurim & Sem Girls In Gateshead #1029595

MichaelC, there is an enormous amount of missing detail in your post, to put it kindly.

For those who may not know, Gateshead is quite unique.

It has a population of a few hundred families, close to a thousand seminary girls, and almost as many yeshiva bochurim

Add to that the fact that there is only one main street with only two small kosher stores, it’s patently obvious why you need different hours for bochurim and girls.

(my stats may be out somewhat – I’ve been away a few years – but that’s the basic picture)

in reply to: Question about being a guest #833154

so if you are in the same time zone as bowwow, always suspect he’s your host & strip the beds

bowwow, I may have possibly believed the bedding, but you ruined it by adding the towels bit.

you must have started using auto-correct, because I haven’t noticed any teh’s since you left your subtitle behind.

    in reply to: Hatzola #932609

    mods, can we close this?

real-brisker: I was just pointing to where I previously answered.

Don’t know what your problem might be – try logging in from another PC. Or perhaps someone else here can help.

in reply to: changing username #955185

“choc- for some wierd reason, it shows the previous email!!?? “

    try again.

don’t forget to click ‘update profile’ after you make the change

once you’ve changed that, you will be able to create another username.

in reply to: changing username #955181

moishy – if you go back to your profile, which email address is showing – the previous one or the new one?

in reply to: changing username #955180

rb: “choc – How do you make a link on your name? Where do you put the link?”

    <http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/changing-username#post-327877>

did you use the same link mentioned at the start of the thread?

(how did you originally change your username to rb?)

in reply to: changing username #955177

moishy – what about my advice above?

firefox. what screen are you at and what do you see?

in reply to: changing username #955165

rb: the link goes in ‘website’

in reply to: changing username #955164

moi aussi: I never ignore anyone. I probably didn’t notice your post. By the way, I think the mods mentioned that their email accounts are no longer in use. So you probably won’t get a reply.

rb: no. i updated and it refreshed the profile details. it took quite a few seconds, though.

binah: if you want to change your name for security, then don’t discuss the name you’re choosing. Otherwise anyone looking at archives will know who you are.

Also, create a new username, don’t just change your current name. (And it probably is wise not to use an email address which gives away your real name.)

in reply to: changing username #955159

go to your profile – click on your name at top left, where it say ‘welcome moishy’. then on ‘edit’ at the right.

in reply to: changing username #955157

moishy: i changed it back again. I meant that I tried it out and it worked. if you can’t get it to work, perhaps just create a new username. (it won’t let you put in the same email address twice, so first change the email address of your current name)

binahyeseira: why do you want to change? It’s a nice name and fits you.

“That is absolutely ridiculous. Someone should be happy with their spouse and know that they have different Yisronos and different Chesronos than everyone else.”

Sam2: Here in E”Y it is common for young couples to invite each other for meals. It is a problem and does cause sholom bayis issues.

Your comment is true for couples who have been married longer.

Freshly married couples do not have that certainty.

    “Interjecting Mod”

in reply to: changing username #955155

Should work. I just changed myself to choc2 and it updated.

Try it again, perhaps it didn’t go through the first time.

in reply to: To Petch or not to Petch #830132

I have the same problem as you, BaalHabooze. I’m not against giving petch (I think it has its place) but I get upset with myself when I give my kids petch out of anger.

I find it important to keep my cool. Children are good at getting us worked up. If I keep calm, most of the time I realise that my children are just hungry/hyper/tired or just behaving like children, not purposely getting me upset. In that case, I just try to distract them.

When necessary, warn them calmly of a punishment (which suits the crime) and follow through.

in reply to: Mod 80: Are you still around? #1076158

Mod 80. I was wondering where you were.

    Gone without a farewell?

At least you could come back as feivel.

    in reply to: Jothar #829488

“first off, I do apologize …”

Jothar, you could have done better than that

    “We have a lunatic criminal…”

Popa: that branch of the subject is not under discussion here, and you know that.

in reply to: on the subject of joseph… #829226

    *liek* to both your posts

in reply to: What's going on here? #829189

“this joseph guy is violating i believe one of the takanos of abbeinu Gershom thou shall not read other peoples mail”

    Are you joking?

I think he’s violating a lot more than a takonoh.

in reply to: Od AYC Chai – Apology and Explanation #839850

    happy to hear!

thank you for your menshlichkeit, 42.

    (and a good thread title)

in reply to: Welcome Back AYC!!! #829456

We’re waiting for you AYC. I hope you come back.

(Though bear in mind that even if he does want to return, he may want to take a break from the CR to ‘recover’).

in reply to: Which are the great subtitles in the coffeeroom? #895077

Goq: I liked your ‘spaced out’ subtitle. That was clever.

    I like squeak’s, too.

in reply to: davening/ learning in English #833302

“Artscroll would have never published their siddurim and other sefrei kodesh with English translations (and other languages) if one could not learn/daaven in English and other languages. “

They published English translations so that we understand what we daven.

I’m not saying that one cannot daven in English – I’ve no idea – but the Artscroll is no proof.

in reply to: What's going on here? #829169

Kevin Mitnick’s The Art of Deception is fascinating. It was an eye-opener for me. I strongly recommend it.

in reply to: Who are you? Who am I? #828442

Just noticed the other thread about this. Ignore my above post (or mod – just delete, please. Thanks)

in reply to: Who are you? Who am I? #828441

RB: “42 – How is that done exactly? ” (=outside contact made between posters)

I’d want to know that too.

The answer seems obvious to many here, but I don’t know. There always was a rule about not allowing email addresses to be posted.

in reply to: What does it take to get a subtitle? #987743

    donate to Kupas HaIr

in reply to: shabbos starts so early! #827942

in reply to: Which are the great subtitles in the coffeeroom? #895061

    ibump and 2scents.

in reply to: Who are you? Who am I? #828431

Avram in MD: Well put. Para 3 – my thoughts precisely, but expressed better.

“Why do debates on this one issue suddenly change the tone of the CR for you?”

I don’t mind debating. It’s the ‘random attacks’ as you put it. And all the name of a good cause, so can’t be taken to task.

in reply to: Who are you? Who am I? #828413

42, thanks for your clarification. I do appreciate the effort you put into the CR. It’s a difficult, time consuming job and I’m sure you get mostly criticism rather than the thanks you should get.

What disturbs me is the negative tone the CR has taken. Negativity has always been ‘shouted out’ here, which is why I enjoy this place. Now, in the name of safety, no holds are barred.

Social engineering is a fascinating topic. (Perhaps I’ll start a thread on it). Teenagers tend to be too trusting and the internet is Dangerous. They do need to be saved from themselves and I agree we should all be keeping an eye out to keep them safe.

But the battering of one and all here (I don’t mean you, mods) isn’t the way to go about it. It’s just become fodder for those who thrive on hostile exchanges.

I hope you understand my viewpoint.
