RisingSun613: I think you need someone who knows you personally and is familiar with the sem to guide you.

    147: Stenhouse, actually.

‘segregated’! hee hee. This isn’t America, y’know.

I believe Motzei Shabbos is just a few minutes earlier than it was. Still very late.

in reply to: Help! Where to go on a date in Yerushalayim tomorrow? #845395

“there is an invention called an umbrella…….”

with just an umbrella, it aint a good idea to go on a date outdoors in this weather.

in reply to: Eckstein of Bet Shemesh #845375

It’s not helpful if an anon someone here says they know them.

you need to get personal recommendations made by people you know.

It’s not difficult to invent emotionally touching pleas for help.

BT he didn’t take it on. He dropped it.

OT, I know, but ‘Imanonov’ always strikes me as Russian at first glance

in reply to: Would you post NEGATIVE Info about yeshiva/Sem/Camps?? #1193681

zahavasdad: “Very few things in life are 100% good and 0% bad . its much more nuanced”

now that I very much agree with. There’s some bad in every good and some good in every bad.

It’s also very relative – what’s good for me may be bad for you [yeshiva, camp or other]. But I don’t know you and you don’t know me, so my info can’t really help you much.

in reply to: where is Bombmaniac and Haifa Girl? #845206

bombmaniac has re-incarnated and is still very prolific

You should have spotted him by now. 🙂

Hee hee! This is not the first time.

koachshtika: thank you. At least I got one hit. I thought there would be thousands 🙂

in reply to: Real Brisker – The Captain Of The Troll Patrol #845107

He should be sub-titled ‘Troll’s Bane’

I dunno whether he’ll give up the tea or coffee, so it can be done to un-subbed third name. 🙂

in reply to: the force behind charedi incitement #847048

Avi K: C’mon. Some statistics, please. What % of chareidim meet your description?

longarekel: I think that most secular Jews in Israel are convinced that all charedim hate them. Barring, of course, those they know personally. Those are obviously exceptions.

And most chareidim are convinced that all secular Jews hate them. Barring, of course, those they know personally. Those are obviously exceptions.

Again, I wonder what the actual statistics are.

Why oh why do so many people work with feelings instead of hard facts?

in reply to: changing screen name #844724

    belge: you did already.

in reply to: the force behind charedi incitement #847038

that’s just the kind of misunderstanding I wanted to correct.

did you actually read the article?

The anti-charedi sentiment in the Israeli media is not a spontaneous reaction to various incidents. It’s a premeditated campaign with a specific intention.

mehadrin buses and beit shemesh spitters are irrelevant.

in reply to: Can you explain to me how YOU read a thread, in general, please? #843740

    BTGuy: “Reading threads…..sewing confusion….lol “

    hey, I missed that!

in reply to: Can you explain to me how YOU read a thread, in general, please? #843737

i do like working through the threads, watching the give and take and getting to know each poster’s opinion. I find it fascinating to see the different ways in which people respond.

it’s made difficult by the fact that people don’t quote the post they are answering (a pet peeve) and that posts are later deleted

(the very prolific and mysterious ames sowed confusion in many on old thread by leaving and taking all her posts with her)

in reply to: Petition to get real-brisker unblocked #843052

    real-brisker account still blocked.

    petition unsuccessful.

time for strong-arm tactics. ideas, anyone

HaLeivi: I was going to make a start on the Haleivi and ruffruffs if this petition proved successful and financially rewarding.

in reply to: nasty experience with customs in Israel #842615

probably obvious, but it’s worth paying a nominal sum to get a lawyer to help you, if necessary.

zahavasdad: your post is irrelevant here. read the OP. We’re talking about the tax wrongfully demanded. Israeli customs are good at that.

in reply to: nasty experience with customs in Israel #842613

As said above, get advice before paying.

Also try janglo (janglo.net?) for the anglo population in Israel.

Always Runs: “But more than just running the show, do u know what bothers me? It’s the burial of the dream that we could really be happy, whole and healthy together… “

It’s painful to let go of any dream, certainly one as basic as that. But you don’t need to do that. Perhaps just put it to one side now and work on other dreams over which you have control – such as becoming the type of person you want to be.

    gavra_at_work: very good suggestion.

in reply to: Very disturbing, please only kind people read. #842392

Derech HaMelech: You come across as an even-tempered and emotionally stable person and so you must have successfully dealt with the childhood experiences you mentioned.

If you’ve no objections, perhaps you could share some survival tips and suggestions.

in reply to: Petition to get DaasYochid Unblocked. #1156471

DY: They know there is a hole. If they don’t plug it, that’s their fault. I’m surprised it hasn’t been used maliciously before.

They could unblock you and just ‘punish’ you by giving you a sub-title. Then, at least with that SN, you couldn’t disguise yourself! 🙂

in reply to: Petition to get DaasYochid Unblocked. #1156467

    sorry, here’s the link

in reply to: Petition to get DaasYochid Unblocked. #1156466

DY: why and in which thread were you blocked?

    didn’t see that thread.

    here’s the link rb gave

    theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/i-feel-guity/page/2

though page 1 is retrospectively confusing.

Should we all turn ourselves into DYs in protest?

in reply to: I'm speechless #846225

72: I wasn’t referring to charlatans and pseudo-hechsherim. Of course anyone can afix their ‘hechsher’ sticker.

I meant when the ‘sticker hechsher’ was a recognised reliable hechsher. I didn’t make myself clear.

in reply to: I'm speechless #846208

ill_be_strong: I have never heard that talking about a person unknown to both sides could be LH.

    Source, please?

in reply to: I'm speechless #846200

mikehall: “My point was other than a sticker, there is no difference, no separate runs…everything is exactly the same….”

a sticker would [usually? always?] mean that there has been a separate run or different supervision. It’s just cheaper than producing different packaging.

in reply to: I'm speechless #846199

and reading the long list of ingredients on a standard choc bar, I cannot believe that this is such a product.

in reply to: I'm speechless #846197

    yitayningwut:

I’d think that the cases where one *can* judge a food by its ingredients would be limited to very specific products (basic foods with few sub-ingredients or processing?).

To do that, one would need to be enough of a kashrus expert

to make it non-viable for the layman.

in reply to: I'm speechless #846194

zahavasdad: in London, you mean the London Beis Din List – a list of foods checked by them. I’m not sure what point you want to make, but that proves the point of those who say you *cannot* judge a food by its ingredients listing.

    From their website:

‘”The Really Jewish Food Guide” listing over 6,500 products whose status has been approved by the Beth Din on the basis of research by our Food Technologists into ingredients, processing aids, and any shared use of equipment… ‘

in reply to: I'm speechless #846171

zahavasdad “Seriosuly I think in Europe and Australia they rely on lists and ingrediants and not Hechsherim “

    I’m from Europe. I didn’t know that.

in reply to: I'm speechless #846153

soliek: I know the feeling, but doubt it in your case – you always have something interesting to add.

in reply to: Eat the morning of a Fast day #931472

I’ve only once tried an early morning breakfast on a fast day. I went back to sleep and woke up *ravenous* – far more hungry than I usually would be at that time. Don’t know why that should be or if it was connected.

in reply to: I'm speechless #846127

mazal77: Not so. There are of course hechsherim on food in England

What you probably mean is the London Beis Din yearly list. It lists foods (without their hechsher) which they have checked into and consider kosher.

Besides for that there are plenty foods with a LBD hechsher and there are other hechsherim too.

Imanonov – This one of yours is most relevant. It should be posted in bold at the start of the various current threads:

“I guess they don’t want anyone to be able to do it, because someone could copy another’s screen name. “

DY: I emailed them that problem a while ago, but didn’t get a response. They should make nickname unique.

OneOfMany: Others have had problems with that link – it looks like it works for some accounts but not for others. If it doesn’t work, then I guess your only hope is to get a mod to do it.

Alternatively, donate to Kupat HaIr and try again.
