And if children have no food they should be let to starve?

There are several problems with your proposal, in addition to the one you acknowledged.

    1. If the percentage of capable talmidim exceed (or even far exceed) the number of exemptions granted.

    2. In Bar-Ilan University if a calculus student tried his darndest, sweating hard hours of study, and yet he gets a 55 he then flunks the course. Yet if a talmid is learning Mesechtes Brochos and he is barely finishing a Daf every two weeks despite cracking his head over the Gemora and spending 10 hours a day, 6 days a week, shteiging over it, he is an A+ student who is better suited for learning than the guy who easily finishes (and knows well) a Mesechta beiyun every other chodesh while spending half his day smoking and shmoozing. The daf every other week talmid is doing more for Klal Yisroel (protecting us) with his Limud Torah than the mesechta every other chodesh talmid. We are far better off keeping the slower talmid in the Beis Mesrash. How will any bechina account for this fact?

Well, what does the Oxford English Dictionary have to say about this word? That ought to settle this dispute one way or the other.

According to the poskim that hold CY is a din, cholov stam is treif.

” Now, when we have a store that has some treif keilim we are mechuyav to assume that all the keilim are treif because they may have been washed together?”

If they were washes together with hot water, you have a problem.

“Same idea for cholov yisrael. Is there a source for the idea that we need to suspect that someone switched it?”

Someone in this very thread testified that exactly happened in a store she frequented.

Ben: And what if 90% of the yeshiva guys demonstrate long-term Torah learning potential? Will your proposed system allow all of them to continue learning Torah full-time or will you force a certain percent into the army?

And who will be the judge, in your proposed system, as to who demonstrates the Torah learning potential? The secular government?

And how will the available learning slots be distributed? Each yeshiva is independent of each other. Will you give each yeshiva a certain number of slots, regardless whether some yeshivas have a much larger percentage of capable talmidim than other yeshivas?

The politicians are threatening jail (Lapid, Lieberman, et al), not revocation of financial benefits, for those that refuse the draft. By default, the current law imposes imprisonment on draft dodgers.

Why must you follow his eruv stringencies if you follow his kasruth lenieincies?

If someone follows Rav Moshe’s leniencies on IVF (or any other matter) must he follow Rav Moshe’s stringency against setting a timer to turn an AC on during Shabbos?

The fact that no one can contact anyone else (off the forum) may be an acceptable retort to those questioning the permissibility of non-essential online cross-gender communications. Nevertheless, the question is a valid one and I don’t understand the retort that if its a problem then YOU stay away and let everyone else be. That solution is good for the person but, if the problem is a valid one, does not alleviate the issue with the masses engaging in such conduct. And concern for everyone else is, surely, something we should all be concerned with.

Also, the retort that no one knows with certainty anyone elses gender is also true to a point. But in truth most posters make reasonably obvious their gender (as someone else pointed out above.)

Who is suing (the government or a private citizen civil suit) and where is this news being reported?

Anyways, it is easy to devise a dress code that applies equally to both genders. Simply ALL body parts must be covered with non-tight clothing except the hands and above the neck. Equally applied to men, women, boys and girls. Viola.

We need to keep things in balance. We should have a Yissoschor / Zevulin relationship. 50% of Klal Yisroel (and Israelis) should be learning all day and 50% should be working (and supporting the learners.)

I never issued a protest. Allow me, please, to reverse your question.

Do you take offense on any person who requests a husband or wife with a good earning potential (or assets)? Do you not think it is important that income (or bank account) be a factor?

I am saying that the consideration of money in a spouse is no better or worse than the consideration of beauty.

    Neither should be the focus.

I’ll concede the point that marrying for intelligence is acceptable and worthwhile while marrying for money is not. I’ll modify my previous comment to say that marrying for money is no better or worse than marrying for beauty.

Excellent point, Torah613. Marrying for money is no better or worse (or any more “strange”) than marrying for beauty or intelligence.

Reform converts from America are recognized as Jewish in Israel, and the Reform convert can officially marry a real Jew in Israel. So the Israeli recognition of who is a Jew is virtually meaningless.

There is no need for Cyprus even if someone cant get a marriage performed or recognized by the State rabbunut. Any Jew in Israel can use any Rabbi and any two kosher witnesses and perform a fully halachic marriage without any State recognition.

Cyprus is for situations where marriage is against halacha. Like marrying a Russian goyta or a Jew marrying an Arab.
