  • in reply to: Choson & Kallah Walking Together Into Wedding Hall – Jewish or Gentile? #1450826

All of our wedding customs are original and copied by the goyim, including, as per the Talmud, the throwing of rice or grain at the Choson and Kallah.
The only exception is when the Choson and Kallah come into the hall together. Our current custom is entirely fake and meant to be politically correct to appease the more modern among us and it distorts the emes way of starting out in a new marriage together.
It had been the custom for Yidden going all the way back, that the Choson walks into the hall handcuffed to the Kallah to show everyone in attendance who is really boss. I feel there would be far fewer problems if we reverted back to this custom as the Kallah would understand early on her place in the marriage.

No one actually knows the shape of the original menorah nor would that shape apply to the Chanukah menoras we use. In fact, the Chanukah menorah is a relatively modern invention of convenience to keep the lights in an orderly separate group. The menorah is not required to fulfill the mitzvah of lighting Chanukah candles; wax or oil.

Orthodox Jews are held and should be held to a higher standard. Torah Jews broadcast to the world that are we are the chosen people and on a higher level than others so the goyim make sure we keep to our commitments.
And, who is fooling who? We have been through this many times before in different situations. And when found guilty, we Orthodox receive the highest penalties available; again because the goyim hold us to what the Torah demands of us.
The vast majority of goyish welfare cheats are not shown living in massive new houses with manicured gardens. But the non-Jewish populations are justifiably chagrinned when the abusers are displayed living the lifestyle out of a movie set. I am too.

Joseph, would you swear in Beis Din that the Kushners eat treif, in any setting.
Otherwise, you continue with your MotziShemRa ways.
    But we are not surprised.

Joseph, you say that loshon hora and dan lechaf zechus only apply to Shomrei Shabbos.

But your own acceptance and spreading of loshon hora is what brands the Kushners as non-Shomrei Shabbos. However, in most respects they could be far more ehrlich and greater shomrei mitzvos than you. Does that mean that people are permitted to spread loshon horo about you?

You are dan lechaf zechus for yourself but not for others. Don’t you have anything to do tshuva for on Yom Kippur?

It is known that Joseph is a student of Rabbi Shmuel Brog. Rabbi Brog was a Tzadik and would never refer to Rav Goren as Goren or to Rav Soloveitchik as J.B.
Unfortunately, this is not so with at least one of his wayward students.

Joseph, you can’t have it both ways. Rav Goren actually held like you.
Rav Goren maintained that the geyrus for the principal in the Langer case could be revoked since he was not nizhar in halacha after the geyrus.
As a result, since the principal was still a goy (as you also maintain in the Trump case); Rav Goren, therefore, held that there was no mamzeirus.
I guess you, Rav Goren and other Poskim at the time employed similar logic in order to avoid mamzeirus in Yisroel.

Rav Ovadiah Yosef, Rav Elyashiv, and many others of their stature, had halachic disagreements with other Poskim and Rabbanim.
These Poskim still maintain their status in Klal Yisroel, as mature people know the disagreements are l’shem Shomayim .
However, the peanut brain critics will continue to complain and spew hatred as did Korach and his ilk.

It baffles me why anyone would risk violating the d’oiraisas of lashon hara and “you should love the Ger” concerning Ivanka Trump.
In addition, it is very rare that a Ger or a Baal Tshuva keeps all the mitzvos immediately. It is a lifetime work in progress as we know. We are all Gerim /Baalei Tshuva and we all struggle with our yetzer haras in observing all the laws of the Torah.
Improving our own levels of Torah observance will bring us closer to Hashem and please Hashem ; lashon hara however, will not help anyone.

    Some suggestions:
No sugar but caramelize the onions for sweetness. Drain off some of the oil.
Go easy on the spices (add a little garlic too) and don’t overcook the liver!
Use a grinder rather than a blender and add a little bit of water.

“For adults, a typical serving is 4 ounces of fish.”

Not to worry, after considering the fillers in frozen commercial gefilta fish (matzo meal, onions, carrots, eggs, etc.) four ounces of fish is probably what is contained in a 20 ounce loaf.

Also, there is hardly any fish in fish sticks as well.

It’s nuts to use expensive cuts for chulent. Second cut brisket it great and you don’t need to cook for 24 hours. Also, minute roast; use thinner front end for roast and back part for chulent. Finally, calachel meat is very good. Grain finished is best for any meat but not necessary for second cut brisket chulent meat.

“How does not signaling allow them to get ahead of you”

Obviously, the case is where you have lots of time to make your left turn before the other vehicle’s right turn, if you knew in advance that the vehicle was turning. However, when there is no indication of a turn by the other vehicle or of slowing down, I am on my guard and wait.

    cherrybim

It’s a fact: Blowing your horn at a vehicle will generally cause its driver to wait longer or go slower; l’hachas.

And what about those drivers who race to cut you off, or oncoming drivers who purposely don’t signal on a turn in order to get in ahead of you, and immediately slow down to a crawl?

Both men with grey beards and dark beards shave, so it’s not so apparent. However, only bald men do the comb-over because they think it makes them look younger (it really makes them look ridiculous). Is the comb-over any different than men dying their hair to look younger (which is assur)?

Many bald or balding frum men grow their hair long and comb it over the bald area to attempt to hide their baldness.

Does anyone know if there is a heter for them to wear a comb-over as they are trying to appear younger?

It has nothing to do with racism or minhagim on the school’s part, the reason for rejecting S’fardim, Russian or anyone with a funny sounding last name is basically business, like most school decisions. If the schools were to accept children with these backgrounds, they would lose considerably more students and funding.

“why do you think that you can disagree with the Gemara? you do not know why the doctor was allowed lechatchila (as opposed to being driven by a goy) or why the rav thought that he could hitch.”

    First: You certainly cannot paskin or bring proof just from a g’mara, as you have done, but as we see many times in the g’mara when there is a disagreement, a maeise Rav has precedence. There is also a flip side to this: ?”? ????? ?”? ??? ?”? ????? ??? ??? ???? ??’ ????? ?? ????? ??? ??? ?’ ??? ???? ????? ???? ??????? ?? ??? ???? ????? ??? ??? ???? ??.

However, being that both the doctor and Rav were ehrlich and talmedei chachomim; I don’t need to know any more. Perhaps since the doctor could come back l’chatchilla; the Rav may have been allowed to go with him. Maybe in a different situation, the Rav would not have done it. I don’t know nor do I care. I do know that in this situation, I would do the same since to me a maeise Rav carries weight whether l’kula or l’chumra. BTW, the Rav is not a kula type individual.

“we cannot learn halachot from a mmaaseh rav”

    We do.

“You do not know the reason why they thought that it was permissible”

The doctor was allowed to l’chatchila and the Rav (a musmach of Rav Hutner and a m’chaber s’farim) knew that he could therefore return with him.
