April 28, 2014 11:54 pm at 11:54 pm in reply to: Why are tefillin removed before the recitation of hallel? #1013162chassidishY.U.typeMemberthe gemara in moed katan and yerushalmi are very mashma that we wear tfillin chol hamoed. the shvus Yaakov has a major tshuva regarding this where he demonstrates quite conclusively that we wear tfillin chol hamoed. the Zohar is a medrash and can be understood differently.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberWhat key? What goy? Who are you kidding? Is your chametz really sold?
chassidishY.U.typeMemberhow bout those who wear half a head-covering
April 28, 2014 10:33 pm at 10:33 pm in reply to: Why are tefillin removed before the recitation of hallel? #1013160chassidishY.U.typeMemberthe taz holds that those who don’t say keser should wear tfillin by mussaf. the ‘yom tov flavor’ theory is weak. lan’d even those who say keser should wear tfillin by mussaf as it states in the torah to wear tfillin v’dok.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberreb daniel: Keep in mind that a chazzan must meet certain qualifications as spelled out in Shulchan Aruch. As for the piyutim it is the minhag of those who (claim to) follow the vilna gaon not to say any piyutim, and to daven the rest slowly and with feeling. If you will say the avoda on yom kippur, nusach sefard is preferable as it is more easily understood.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberDepends if it’s an up-hat or a down-hat. But why wear a hat at all? Are you Italian?

chassidishY.U.typeMemberIt gets harmful when one spends too much time here.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberThen why is the crisis among the non-yeshivish as well?
chassidishY.U.typeMemberMr. Short. Why were you rejected?
November 9, 2012 1:20 am at 1:20 am in reply to: The USA voted in 4 more years or increased moral decay #903235chassidishY.U.typeMemberThere are many barriers in the frum world that need to be changed. Like the yeshiva system, the ‘davening’, the “my rebbe is the only tzaddik” syndrome, ‘kollel for everyone’ malady, narrowmindedness in certain areas of Halacha, and others. Hashem is breaking down the barriers in the world in general in order to prepare the way for mashiach who will introduce the world to a shleimus that will be bli metzarim.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberishto kegufo. boy do you have a lot to learn.
November 9, 2012 1:09 am at 1:09 am in reply to: Two Things to Remember Before You Order Your Palestinian Passport #906801chassidishY.U.typeMemberI pray for the downfall of Israel and the rise of Bnei Yisrael.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberwow looks like people are getting desperate to start threads
November 9, 2012 1:05 am at 1:05 am in reply to: Boro Park / Flatbush / Kensington / Benzenhurst #907117chassidishY.U.typeMemberpretty spot on. RELEVANCE PLEASE?!
chassidishY.U.typeMemberOne reason it came was to give us an opportunity to do chesed by helping our brothers who were affected. Did you utilize the opportunity? You still can.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberHe won because a few senior citizens in Florida said “Hey,look how well he handled the hurricane. Did you hear what Gov. Christie said about him? If he could handle that, he could handle anything.” So they went and voted for him and he won Florida and the election by a few thousand votes.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberperhaps you might consider not going to seminary at all. it is not necessary you know. you can be a very good wife and mother without going to seminary.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberHashem brought a mini-mabul to wash away the tumah found in the coastal areas. We are all positively affected by that. It is sad that it had to be done this way.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberwow. you are really bored.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberyes. and the husband is obligated to support her.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberI think Romney will win, Israel will bomb Iran, and Mashiach will come. What do you think?
chassidishY.U.typeMemberRight. Nothing at all changed. Right.
October 23, 2012 11:33 pm at 11:33 pm in reply to: Shocking Study of Modern Orthodox OTD Rate #941399chassidishY.U.typeMemberModern Orthodoxy is apikorsus. In other words, the ones who are ‘kashrus and shabbos observant’ are also off the derech.
October 23, 2012 11:29 pm at 11:29 pm in reply to: Would You Marry A Divorcee? (If you were never previously married.) #900513chassidishY.U.typeMemberI would not marry a divorcee if I was single. Too risky. You’ll never get the whole story. (However there can be an exception to this in extraordinary circumstances).
chassidishY.U.typeMemberNegia of chiba is assur, and yehareg v’al yavor, as mentioned above. Negia not of chiba (like paying at a cash register) is permitted l’chatchila.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberYou sound surprised. Welcome to N.Y.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberDepends if the drinks are hot. Fairly simple.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberIf you’re a tzadik yourself. It takes one to know one.
July 24, 2012 4:13 am at 4:13 am in reply to: Breaking! Sanz-Klausenberg rebbi to attend Siyum Hashas #887145chassidishY.U.typeMemberok. so that means he probably won’t be mesayem again next week.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberthe people you’re speaking about are not bnei torah. they only look like it externally.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberkollel or the army? neither. leave israel.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberyou recall incorrectly. tefillin was worn all day. it was not merube begadim because tefillin is not a beged.
July 24, 2012 3:18 am at 3:18 am in reply to: Breaking! Sanz-Klausenberg rebbi to attend Siyum Hashas #887143chassidishY.U.typeMemberHow many people are actually being mesayem shas? (Is the rebbe being mesayem shas?)
chassidishY.U.typeMemberChassidus should be introduced into the yeshiva system. They will no longer be hanging out in the coffee room. I’m not kidding.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberHaleivi: please explain why we should keep shabbos on friday. thanks.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberIf he himself is lo higia lehora’a he must ask someone who is. It’s that simple.
January 19, 2012 2:54 pm at 2:54 pm in reply to: Abolish/Maintain Leap Seconds? What would you do with the extra/missing time? #844616chassidishY.U.typeMemberI think six months notice should be enough time. I don’t get why anyone would want to abolish it. As for what to do with the extra second, of course there really is no extra second. Just like when you change the clock you don’t actually gain or lose an hour.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberI suggest doing what you like to do. You can be the one to start a “frum” way of performing and design. There’s got to be a demand for that. I once had an idea of doing frum motion pictures. I’m a good actor and I knew steven segal from his younger days(if you never heard of him that’s good). He used to be a frum boy like me, but he couldn’t resist the temptation of hollywood. I resisted and I’m happy I passed the test. I think you’ll find your niche in the frum world. There are frum productions out there and you can design for frum companies. Hatzlacha!
chassidishY.U.typeMemberAs Rav Shachter said, this is very complicated. In general, when one reaches the level where he ‘knows’ that his opinion can be relied upon, he can pasken for himself. When he receives permission from his teacher he can pasken for others. But one should not pasken from books. They are a useful aid but cannot take the place of a live poseik.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberDo you have chashivus for anything? This might be a self-esteem issue…
chassidishY.U.typeMemberPlease see the next few words of the mishna. Sheyegias shneihem mashkachas avon. Nowadays with the ‘outside’ world being the way it is, which “road”, in general, is more mashkachas avon? The working road or the kollel road? By the way the Rambam’s example of torah im derech eretz is learning nine hours and working three(Talmud Torah 1-12). Popa, you hit the nail on the head.
chassidishY.U.typeMembermdd: no he was not, but he was a fan of living very simply, and that can be done without going to college. I agree with 2sense 100%(a rarity for me).
chassidishY.U.typeMemberSam:Please tell us who Chavakuk’s father was.Thanks
chassidishY.U.typeMemberkfb: I don’t think that’s the answer but carrying a weapon and learning how to use it is a good idea. But perhaps we should stop building such fancy houses and having such fancy cars. Anti-semitism comes from jealousy. And it doesn’t help to have so many jews holding political office, even some very high positions, especially when the economy isn’t doing that great. Remember that the head of the federal reserve is jewish(surprise!)
January 16, 2012 8:22 pm at 8:22 pm in reply to: I Dont Like Mitt Romney But I Guess I'll Vote For Him. #846898chassidishY.U.typeMemberIf Mitt comes out on top I think I’ll vote for Hussein. I’d rather a guy who is clearly full of it, than a guy who pretends to be what he is not. Mitt has been vacillating on key issues for many years in order to get votes(you can check that out). He is doing the same here. I was hoping Newt would win and he still might.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberAnyone with true yiras shamayim would have a VERY GREAT FEAR of eating something not kosher. If you were aware that something non-kosher definitely causes cancer, would you just check the ingredients and eat it? You can be sure that eating something non-kosher is far worse for a son or daughter of the King than the worst cancer. You should follow your Rav, but in the absence of a personal psak, be very very careful about what you eat.
chassidishY.U.typeMemberIt cannot apply to yomtov since it is permitted to light candles on yomtov. As for yom kippur, lighting is a minhag for some, not a chiyuv like shabbos(see Shulchan Aruch O.C.610). It does not apply there either.
