“More like a FDR or JFK type of democrat.”
I will accept that. Both had 90%+ top marginal tax rates. (So did Eisenhower.) Both were free traders. (So was Eisenhower.) And it should be noted that when those three were President, there were no restrictions on immigration from any Western Hemisphere country so they had enforced an “open borders” policy for this half of the world.
I can not be an Eisenhower Republican because of what he and John Foster Dulles tried to do to Israel. đ
charliehallParticipant“He probably isnât aware that he was elected president of the US.”
He has been making an awful lot of great appointments to important positions for someone who isn’t supposed to know what is going on. Of course anti-Semites and misogynists aren’t happy with him.
charliehallParticipant“Religious right-wingers â Jewish, evangelical Christians”
Most frum Jews in my neighborhood do not like Trump, and most evangelical Christians I know don’t like him either.
charliehallParticipant“the GOP doesnât like universal healthcare”
They used to. Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, and Bob Dole all supported it. And conservative icons Freidrich Hayek and Milton Friedman did, too. But now conservativism means leaving people to die if they have chronic medical conditions. It didn’t used to be like that.
charliehallParticipant“What would happen if your Rov paskened that an abortion is required (due to a motherâs life being in danger) and the government says no?”
That is happening NOW in El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Malta. Now in Malta a woman can simply take a ferry to Italy, but women are dying because ALL abortions are banned in those countries.
charliehallParticipant“It seems to run counter to Daâas Torah.”
Not just today’s Da’as Torah but the Torah itself, the Naviim, Chazal, Gaonim, Rishonim, and Acharonim.
Judiasm is not about rights at all it is about obligations. And we are required to protect ourselves and not to endanger others. “Liberty” in Judaism means the freedom to fulfill these obligations, not the freedom to do whatever we please no matter what the consequences to others.
charliehallParticipantFree collage for all? YES, THAT USED TO BE THE CASE IN SOME STATES INCLUDING NY AND CT
More taxes and regulations? YES WE NEED HIGHER TAXES IN ORDER TO AVOID DEFUNDING POLICE AND OTHER NEEDED SERVICES, AND WE NEED MORE ENVIRONMENTAL AND BUSINESS REGULATIONS IN ORDER TO UNDO THE DAMAGE TRUMP HAS CAUSED
Open borders? NO BUT WE NEED MUCH HIGHER LEVELS OF LEGAL IMMIGRATION

Anti 2a? NO BUT THE SECOND AMENDMENT WAS NEVER INTENDED TO CREATE AN INDIVUDUAL RIGHT TO A FIREARM
Iran nuclear deal? YES BECAUSE IT ENDED IRAN’S NUCLEAR WEAPONS PROGRAM. THE BRIBE WAS PRETTY BIG, THOUGH. THANKS TO TRUMP IRAN GOT THE BRIBE *AND* THE NUKES

charliehallParticipant“frum people as hypocrites?”
When religious people support a rasha like Trump they expose themselves as hypocrites. No Trump supporting religious person, Jew or Christian will ever be have any credibility when they complain about licentiousness or corruption in society.
charliehallParticipant“I will say that I would a prefer a corrupt and somewhat anti-semitic person who strongly values law and order”
Well Trump is both somewhat anti-Semitic and cares not one iota about law and order when it limits his own conduct.
November 27, 2020 1:39 pm at 1:39 pm in reply to: why did our conservative news site go liberal? #1923726charliehallParticipantThree Republican appointed appeals judges just shot down the lastest Trump appeal.
This has nothing to do with the media. This has to do with the fact that Trump has no case and he has incompetent lawyers.
charliehallParticipant“There is no way you can possibly know this. Do you know everything that was done to ensure the process was done âto the highest standards of safety and efficacy?â”
You can go to clinicaltrials dot gov and read the study designs. I do that a lot. I also read and write detailed protocols for a living; I happen to have two COVID-19 protocols on my computer right now.
Every clinical trial has a Data Safety Monitoring Committee that monitors the study progress, and every clinical trial is approved by an Institutional Review Board that approves the protocol and any modifications. I am a member of two Institutional Review Boards at my institution and I have been on the Data Safety Monitoring Committees for numerous studies. I have at times forced the termination of studies when it was clear that it was not possible for the studies to show that the investigational treatment would be successful. This system basically works.
charliehallParticipant“we can agree that this requirement should also apply to immigrants before they are let into our country”
My wife is a family physician who treats a lot of immigrants. She has never had an immigrant family even question a vaccine much less refuse one. Many have received vaccines in their home countries that Americans don’t get such as the tuberculosis vaccine. Only Americans and Israelis seem to be so stupid as to question one of the two greatest public health successes of modern times. (The other is clean water.)
charliehallParticipant“smallpox has a mortality rate of 30%, and the rest were disfigured for life. Comparing smallpox to COVID with a 99.5% recovery rate is disingenuous.”
COVID does not have a 99.5% recovery rate. I just looked up the states, it is actually a 97.9% survival rate, with many who survive suffering disabilities that will trouble them for the rest of their lives. At that rate we are talking about seven million dead Americans if everyone listens to the anti-vaxxers.
Smallpox in Boston killed 0.0005% of the population of Boston during the epidemic that led to the Court decision. So COVID is over forty times as deadly. Kal v’chomer.

Trying to overturn a free and fair election is not conservative, or at least it didn’t used to be. And that is what Trump’s goons are trying to do. They are now attacking the very basis of American democracy and you seem to be okay with that. You might be more comfortable in an absolute monarchy like Bahrain or UAE.

The United States does not have and has never had an official national language. The US has the largest English speaking population in the world but it also has the second largest Spanish speaking poulation in the world. (Mexico is #1.)

November 26, 2020 11:19 pm at 11:19 pm in reply to: why did our conservative news site go liberal? #1923579charliehallParticipant“there is evidence of election fraud”
There is the following evidence of election fraud:
1) Two Trump voters in Pennsylvania got caught trying to cast a second vote in the name of a dead person.
2) A guy in California got caught committing absentee ballot fraud in California in an attempt to steal a local election. A few thousand fraudulent absentee ballot applications in a state Biden won by five million votes, and there were no illegal votes in this case, either, because the guy got caught. I have not been able to determine whether the perpetrator is a Republican or a Democrat as all local elections in California are nonpartisan.
3) The US Postal service failed to deliver 1/3 of the mail in ballots in Philadelphia and 1/5 of the mail in ballots in Detroit. Then Trump’s goons went to court to prevent these legal ballots from being counted if they arrived late. This cost Biden a lot of votes but he won anyway. The source here is the “liberal” Trump propaganda rag called the New York Post.
Giuliani admitted in open court that there was no fraud. So there is nothing for YWN to report on.
charliehallParticipant“all they have come up with are a few affidavits that when you examine them ”
Basically, we have two incidents in Pennsylvania where Trump supporters tried and failed to cast a second ballot illegally in someone else’s name, a nutjob in California who tried and failed to steal a local election with a few thousand illegal absentee ballots in a state Biden won by five million votes, and the US Postal Service costing Biden about a hundred thousand votes in both Detroit and Philadelphia by losing mail in ballots, ballots that have not been found or counted. The victim of the fraud is Biden but he is moving on.
charliehallParticipant“Will he slink off to Maralago for Christmas”
I suspect he will apply for and receive a UK passport (he is eligible for one under UK law as his mother was born in the UK) and go live there with his friend Boris Johnson (a US Citizen born in the US).
The problem is, the US and UK have an extradition treaty.
charliehallParticipantGadolhatorah is right. Cuomo had no business making those comments. The clinical trials have been done correctly. The private sector can be trusted.
charliehallParticipantRepublican polls were off, too. Trafalgar had Trump winning PA by 2, GA by 5, NV by 1, NC by 2, MI by 2, AZ by 3. The did come close in WI, getting Biden +1 there.
Susquehanna had Trump winning PA by 1, and Biden winning WI by 3.
Rasmussen had Biden winning PA by 3, and Trump winning NC by 1. But they had Biden +1 in the national popular vote; he won by 4.
charliehallParticipant“So when do/donât we choose to trust doctors/scientists?”
We trust doctors/scientists since Rav Sherira Gaon over a thousand years go. Anyone who doesn’t has departed from a thousand year old minhag. Such a person is as non-frum as someone who breaks into someone’s mail and reads it.
November 23, 2020 8:47 pm at 8:47 pm in reply to: Michigan just certified for Biden. What is the Presidents next move? #1922427charliehallParticipantHe should be hiring better attorneys, not to fight the election more, but to deal with the many civil and criminal trials he is about to face. If he continues to use Rudy he will lose every one of them.
charliehallParticipantRather than speculate, look at the polls from Real Clear Politics vs. the actual vote counts.
Final RCP Average in PA: Biden +1.2. Actual election result: Biden +1.2.
MI: Polls Biden +4.2 Actual Biden +2.8.
GA: Polls Trump +1.0 Actual Biden +0.3.
NC: Polls Trump +0.2 Actual Trump +1.3.
AZ: Polls Biden +0.9 Actual Biden +0.3.
WI: Polls Biden +6.7 Actual Biden +0.7.
NV: Polls Biden +2.3 Actual Biden +2.7.So the only state among the close ones that was really off was Wisconsin. Which had a similar discrepancy four years ago.
charliehallParticipant“What right do you have to tell others to take it?”
I don’t have that right. But the government does. I cited the Supreme Court case.
You don’t like that? You are living in the wrong country.
charliehallParticipant“attacking the frum community in Rockland is a bipartisan sport”
Very sad.
charliehallParticipant“Jones is a protĂ©gĂ© of AOC”
Apparently not. He gave an interview to Mishpacha in which he distanced himself from her anti-Zionist anti-Semitic nonsense. The pro-Israel people I talk to have been pleasantly surprised; Israel was not an issue in this race and they feared that he would be another AOC. Apparently gay progressives are on our side (Jones, Torres) while straight progressives are on the wrong side (Bowman, AOC).
charliehallParticipant“Keep on Dreaming”
Not dreaming.
I don’t think I could eat from your kitchen. You seem wiling to believe anyone’s claim about anything, no matter how little evidence there is. You would believe Trump if he claimed a bacon cheeseburger were kosher.
charliehallParticipantTake them.
Mandatory vaccines are legal in a public health emergency. Jacobson v. Massachusetts, 1905.
November 22, 2020 5:15 pm at 5:15 pm in reply to: Massive Pennsylvania Supreme Court Defeat for Trump’s Incompetent Legal Team #1922131charliehallParticipant“And we will Win in SCOTUS!”
It doesn’t matter. Even if the SC reverses everything, it is Congress that eventually decides which Presidential electors whose votes get counted. And Trump has now pissed off enough Republican Senators that there is now a solid majority that says that Biden won, a majority that will increase by at least one more in about a week when Mark Kelly replaces Martha McSally. The latest was Pat Toomey, who seems personally offended by the fact that his mentee Judge Brann has been attacked for his decision.
Your guy lost. Fair and square. You are welcome to return to reality at any time, but since you never gave up the hydroxychloroquine nonsense, it is unlikely that you will.
November 22, 2020 5:14 pm at 5:14 pm in reply to: Massive Pennsylvania Supreme Court Defeat for Trump’s Incompetent Legal Team #1922128charliehallParticipantGadolhador,
Nothing to worry about with Rudy. Nobody other than Trump is going to hire Rudy to be his lawyer after he proved in court that he had forgotten everything he learned in law school. And Trump will stiff Rudy on his $20k/day fee as he does with everyone else he does business with when he needs a scapegoat for losing every case.
charliehallParticipant“We need recounts in Florida, Texas, the Dakotas Ohio and New Mexico”
Recounts are illegal in every state except for Georgia (which has already done one and may do a second), Wisconsin, and Nevada. Trump won’t pay for one in Nevada and won’t pay for one in Wisconsin except for two counties. He knows he has lost; this is all about grifting more money from his supporters, who aren’t just losers but suckers.
charliehallParticipant“Itâs easy to do from Venezuela if you have the computer manual.”
No it isn’t, if you the scanners aren’t connected to the Internet. Besides, the hand recount of Georgia found zero discrepancies between the hand count and the computer count with the exception of two Republican counties where the elections officials had neglected to upload data from flash drives. In addition, if the scanners are designed to switch votes from R to D, how is it that every R congressman got re-elected in Michigan and Pennsylvania (and in fact everywhere in the US except for one seat in Georgia). Furthermore, it is Giuliani who has real Venezuela connections.
charliehallParticipant“the Real Winner is Trump.”
Biden won and will be President on January 20. Your repeated comments to the contrary are irrelevant.
I know you don’t like that but facts do not care about your feelings.
November 20, 2020 11:38 am at 11:38 am in reply to: Finding out who won the presidential election 2020 #1921621charliehallParticipant“we still donât know who is the real winner of the presidential election race”
No, we knew two weeks ago. Trump tried to steal the election by having the Postal Service fail to deliver mail in ballots in Detroit and Philadelphia but he lost anyway. No fraud has been found. Biden is President Elect.
charliehallParticipant“something funny is going on with Trumpâs legal teams claims.”
It sadly is not funny. They have no evidence of fraud, they have never have had any evidence of fraud, and they don’t dare perjure themselves by making up nonexistent fraud. Biden won 306 electoral votes fair and square and in no state was the result very close.
November 20, 2020 11:10 am at 11:10 am in reply to: If Trump does win, how would you react…? #1921607charliehallParticipant“I would move to Canada”
My wife and I have discussed this. Trump overturning the election results would mean that the US no longer has a rule of law and it would no longer be safe here. My wife has a Mexican passport and I qualify for a Mexican residency permit if I we go there together; I have even checked out housing prices in Polanco, the largest Jewish neighborhood in the country. But the idiot leftist President of Mexico is botching the coronavirus pandemic even worse than Trump and Mexico is stuck with him for another four years. I think we can qualify for emigration for Canada but it isn’t easy for most folks to emigrate to Canada. My wife also qualifies for a UK passport but the UK government under Johnson hates immigrants and Johnson is also botching the coronavirus pandemic.
So aliyah might be the answer! Netanyahu may be a crook but he has 40 more IQ points than Trump and Israel is doing a lot better than the US is with the pandemic.
charliehallParticipantThe hand count proves that there was no ballot counting fraud. The errors were by Republican elections officials who simply goofed. There was just a huge Democratic turnout and Georgia was the only state where a Republican congressional seat flipped to the Democrats other than the two North Carolina seats that were flipped because of a court ordered de-gerrymandering.
Trump could ask for a recount, and the state would cover the costs, but nothing would change. It would be a waste of Georgia taxpayer money.
Kudos to the elections officials in Georgia who have been working hard long hours to meet the certification deadline — both Republicans and Democrats.
charliehallParticipant“zero grasp of Rockland County politics”
What I mainly know about Rockland County politics is the vile anti-Semitic “Storm is Brewing in Rockland” video that the Rockland GOP produced last year. Yet the frum areas there all voted Republican. So much for being concerned about anti-Semitism.
charliehallParticipantAs is typical, the Irish parts of Riverdale voted more Republican this year than the Jewish areas. Trump actually won some Irish and Italian areas in the Bronx. Oh, and he carried Woodlawn Cemetery.
charliehallParticipant“Voting should be only in person with ID as in most normal countries”
Lots of countries have at least some postal voting. The US implemented it for soldiers serving the country back in the 19th century. Only the US has had a President who tried to destroy the country’s postal service in order to prevent legally cast ballots from being delivered because he thought that they would mostly be for his opponent.
charliehallParticipantThis isn’t going to happen because the Trump campaign can’t find any fraud, or any significant errors. The election wasn’t that close.
The relevant question is what will be your reaction should the Supreme Court ignore all the lack of evidence and try to overturn the election. (The Constitution doesn’t give it that power.) Or should Congress ignore all the lack of evidence and try to overturn the election. (The Constitution does give it that power, and Republicans used it to steal the 1876 election.)

That is a real case of attempted fraud, albeit targeting a local nonpartisan election, not the Presidential election. But no votes ended up being cast because they were caught. It involved absentee ballot applications from people who were mentally incompetent and therefore not qualified to vote. But even had they managed to vote, the few thousand votes are roundoff error compared to Biden’s five million vote margin in California.
November 19, 2020 2:50 pm at 2:50 pm in reply to: Massive Pennsylvania Supreme Court Defeat for Trump’s Incompetent Legal Team #1921398charliehallParticipant“Some places Stopped Counting for awhile & then lo & behold, when they started again it was mainly, if not all, Biden.”
No stop of counting. The reason for the late votes being mostly Biden was that Stupid Trump ordered his supporters not to vote by mail, and Stupid Trump supporters listened. That is a characteristic of a cult. In person votes often get reported first. The Georgia Secretary of State, a Trump supporting Republican, has stated that Trump telling his people not to vote by mail depressed Republican turnout and lost Trump the state. It is also likely that that forced a second US Senate runoff and helped Dems flip a seat in the US House of Representatives — their only flip of a Republican seat not caused by redistricting.
Hopefully Trump’s people will continue

November 19, 2020 2:48 pm at 2:48 pm in reply to: Massive Pennsylvania Supreme Court Defeat for Trump’s Incompetent Legal Team #1921388charliehallParticipant“statistically, it was a tie”
About 64,000 votes in the right places would have re-elected Trump.
About 79,000 votes in the right places would have elected Hillary Clinton.
About 36,000 votes in the right places would have elected John Kerry.
But close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

Giuliani showed that didn’t even know what “strict scrutiny” or “rational basis” are. Those are the basis of constitutional law, which is most of what the Supreme Court does.
November 19, 2020 2:31 pm at 2:31 pm in reply to: Massive Pennsylvania Supreme Court Defeat for Trump’s Incompetent Legal Team #1921381charliehallParticipant“Indeed, a state theoretically could have the legislature elect the âelectorsâ.”
Not theoretically, really. But the last time a state did this was 1860. And the law would have had to be changed prior to election day. And the legislators who approved such a change would get voted out of office.
