Aluminum is one of the LEAST toxic substances on the earth. Good thing, because it is one of the third most common substance on the earth and the most common metal. edited Hashem created us as resistant to any damage that aluminum might have caused us as the result of normal exposure levels. Aluminum is found in almost all soil and your child gets far more exposure to aluminum from getting dirty while playing than he will ever get from vaccines. Not to mention your aluminum cookware and all the aluminum beverage containers.

charliehallParticipantProf. Bernard Lewis found from Ottoman tax records that showed that Jews in Palestine were producing soap from vegetable oil in the 16th century.
charliehallParticipantI don’t care whether laundry detergent has a hechsher or not because I never eat or drink laundry detergent.
charliehallParticipant” It is irrelevant in at present all laundry detergents are made with non-animal ingredients, since in the past they clearly were.”
Wrong. The fact that no milk products from any animal other than cows, goats, or sheep may be transported across state lines for commercial allows us to consume such dairy products in the US.
charliehallParticipantIn the (Sefardic) synagogue I attended in Paris, all (male) mourners must approach the Arno HaKodesh and recite (the Sefardic) Kaddish in unison together. I found it much preferable to the typical Ashkenazi minhag of everyone saying it at their own pace and not listening to each other.
charliehallParticipantI have a sufficiently loud voice that I can drown out a dozen other people saying Kaddish.
charliehallParticipant“That all mourners say Kaddish is a very recent innovention”
A Sefardic rabbi told me that all mourners saying Kaddish has always been the Sefardic practice.
charliehallParticipantI am unaware of any commercially produced detergent available in the US today that is made from animal products.

The halachah was decided a thousand years ago by Ravi Sherira Gaon. Anyone is qualified to say that because it is a fact.
August 26, 2015 10:39 pm at 10:39 pm in reply to: Letter from Rabbonim that Schools Must Accept Non-Vaccinated Children #1099212charliehallParticipantI would never send my children to such a school and were I a head of school I would insist that all children be vaccinated unless there is a medical contraindication.
The letter contains junk science that should be ignored.
charliehallParticipantI wear prescription trifocal sunglasses 100% of the time when I am outdoors in the sun. They protect my eyes from harmful ultraviolet rays. I don’t care what any contemporary rabbi says about it and I have Rav Sherirah Gaon to back me up.
August 24, 2015 4:34 pm at 4:34 pm in reply to: But people don't get to choose their own schools in America #1097694charliehallParticipant“Why doesn’t (or does he?) pay for space to publicize his paid-for views? “
Is there a major politician in America other than Jerry Brown who doesn’t have paid speechwriters?
charliehallParticipantWalker is a one trick pony. All he knows is that he hates labor unions. He has given three responses on the issue of birthright citizenship in the past eight days. Heaven help Israel were he to get elected when he realizes how strong labor unions are there.
charliehallParticipantFlorida was one of the worse CEOs in American history. While she atop Hewlett-Packard, her shareholders lost 62% of their equity. And while Republicans don’t usually care about jobs losses caused by corporate incompetence, she did fire tens of thousands of people.
charliehallParticipantJoseph has given us two pants-on-fire lies in this thread. Firstly, Obama didn’t swear anything, especially not on the life of his mother who had been dead for over a decade. Secondly, he claimed that National Socialism in Germany represented a political triumph of socialism. In fact, every actual Socialist in the Reichstag voted against giving Hitler dictatorial powers, and every non-socialist voted in favor. Within a few months, essentially every Socialist politician in Germany was either dead, in hiding, in a concentration camp, or in exile.
How any Jew can confuse the people who were on our side, with those who tried to exterminate us, is beyond me. Either Joseph is a total ignoramus, or an anti-Semite masquerading as a Jew.
charliehallParticipantJust because it says organic does not mean it does not contain coal tar, a natural substance.
charliehallParticipant“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory rewriting history once again!”
Everything I wrote was fact. Everything. Sorry you are so assimilated into right wing Republicanism that you have to deny reality.
charliehallParticipantFunny how so many people who complain about how the Affordable Care Act made it impossible to keep ones doctor want to make it impossible for several times as many Americans to keep ones doctor by repealing it!
charliehallParticipantSanders isn’t much of a socialist. Can anyone cite a single private business that got taken over when he was Mayor of Burlington, Vermont? (BTW even though Sanders started decades of rule by leftists in Burlington, its unemployment rate was 2.6% according to the last complete statistics in May. Would that “socialism” could do that for the US!)
charliehallParticipantOne concern not mentioned so far: Many hair dyes contain coal tars, which cause cancer.
charliehallParticipant“assured heart transplants because he felt it was murder”
If you hold that halachic death is anything other than brain death, heart transplant does require murdering the donor.
charliehallParticipant“what is considered beged ish/isha can change based on societal norms. For example, he told me that pants are no longer considered beged ish.”
Fedora hats were originally beged ishah (and a political statement in favor of licentiousness) but today they are widely accepted in the frum world.
charliehallParticipant“Only a rabid democrat could think there was anything positive about his presidency”
I am sorry that you think that bullying Israel into withdrawing from occupied lands in return for absolutely nothing was a good policy, and that Carter’s ending that policy was not positive. Are you Neturei Karta, by chance?
And I am sorry that you think that withdrawing US support for brutal Latin American dictatorships was not productive. One actually carried out a terrorist attack in Washington DC that cost the life of an American Jew. What would you say to that woman’s family?
And I am sorry that you think that imposing draconian sanctions on the Soviet Union after it invaded Afghanistan was not positive. (Reagan blasted those sanctions and removed them immediately after he took office.)
charliehallParticipantMost Protestant churches are today huge supporters of freedom of religion; for many this has been the case since their founding. Ditto for Unitarians.
charliehallParticipant“All religions ban freedom of religion”
That is a false statement.
charliehallParticipantI am aware of churches that became Orthodox synagogues that barely got remodeled at all.
charliehallParticipantI voted for Carter in 1976. It was my first Presidential election. And I have no regrets. And anyone who knows how bad Ford was to Israel would not disagree with me. Carter was a significant improvement.
Carter as President wasn’t that bad and he was a substantial improvement over Ford. It was after he left office that he turned into a rasha. He is probably the second worst ex-President ever, after John Tyler, who committed actual treason as an ex-President.
charliehallParticipantBarryLS1,
Few if any illegals vote. Some states don’t even have voter registration or let you register on election day and they don’t have any problems. And it definitely makes sense to create a path to eventual citizenship for illegal immigrants; the alternative is to create an East-Germany style police state where everyone is informing on their neighbor as to the nationality of their household help. (Not to mention the massive tax increase that would be required by such.)
And I can’t believe that someone would be objecting to multiculturalism on a frum site. We orthodox Jews are supposed to be the prime example of not assimilating into the culture around us. Clearly you have assimilated into WASP society with that attitude.
And I should point out that I live in the Bronx, which is now over 50% Hispanic. My next door neighbors are immigrants from the Dominican Republic; they speak English fluently and their 20something daughter speaks fluent English with an American accent. My backyard backs up to the backyard of a Puerto Rican family who speak fluent English with an American accent. The only folks in my neighborhood who don’t speak English with an American accent are Jews! And a few months ago I was passing through a Hispanic neighborhood in the South Bronx, changing buses, and I could not believe that I heard more English than Spanish being spoken.
And I don’t get why one should forget Spanish. It is spoken by 400 million people. You want to do well in this world today you better know multiple languages.
August 17, 2015 6:08 pm at 6:08 pm in reply to: Matisyahu Concert appearance cancelled due to bds movement #1096196charliehallParticipantHe could have really confounded the evil organizers of this event by saying that he supports the position of Benjamin Netanyahu and his four predecessors regarding a Palestinian State.
charliehallParticipant‘One Latino activist was asked why he insists so much on retaining Spanish, replied, “well, national pride, you know!” ‘
It is also rather useful to be fluent in a language spoken by four hundred million people.
charliehallParticipant” all to get more democrat voters”
Illegal immigrants can’t vote.
charliehallParticipant“The vast majority of Jews who moved to America, whether in the 19th century or in the 20th century, did so legally.”
I would support returning to the pre-1914 immigration laws.
charliehallParticipant” But everyone learned (or at least tried to learn) English.”
This is not true. I have personally met numerous Jews in America who are illiterate in English.
charliehallParticipantWe forget that Spanish was spoken in the United States before English. (French, too.)
charliehallParticipantThere hasn’t been a terrorist attack come from Mexico in almost a century. Pancho Villa died in 1923.
charliehallParticipantThe two northernmost orthodox synagogues in the world are in Trondheim, Norway; and in Anchorage, Alaska. They have adopted different solutions to this problem.
charliehallParticipantIf you could write a law that codifies the actual halachah regarding abortion I would support it. It would have to include an absolute permission for a woman to have an abortion if her physical or mental health were in danger (Judaism was far ahead of the rest of the world in realizing that there is no difference), permission for any reason in the first 40 days of pregnancy, and permission when the fetus has a serious defect that is not compatible with life such as Tay-Sachs disease, some trisomy conditions, and developmental problems such as the fetus’s brain developing outside the skull (my wife actually had a patient with such a fetus and had to refer her to an abortion provider).
I am unaware of any Christian group that supports such a position.
charliehallParticipantAbortion for non-Jews is prohibited in the discussion of the Noachide laws in Sanhedrin Chapter 7. It even carries a death penalty and some have used that to claim that that makes abortion equivalent to murder or even actual murder. But that sugya also provides for a death penalty for petty theft and nobody is going to claim that petty theft is murder. That sugya also states unequivocably that there is nothing permitted to Jews that is prohibited to non-Jews, so it isn’t that abortion is murder for one and not the other — it is just that the penalties can differ.
The Roman Catholic Church considers all abortions, even to save the life of the mother, to be murder, and it has managed to prohibit absolutely all abortions in several countries. Pregnant women have been dying as a result.
This is NOT a theoretical problem. The most recent data in the US indicate that 2% of known pregnancies in the US end as an ectopic pregnancy which is a potentially life-threatening condition for the mother (and must end with the death of the embryo).
charliehallParticipantI can’t believe a frum Jew would support Trump.
He supports closing borders. Closed borders have resulted in millions of our people dying. Our very existence depends upon open borders.
He used bankruptcy laws to extort the people who lend money to his projects into accepting equity interest in the projects rather than paying them back as agreed. He has done this enough times that it is fair to characterize it as a strategy. He actually has sufficient wealth to have paid his creditors rather than to have stiffed them. This is so unethical that it is almost impossible to describe; he really should be looking at residence in prison rather than at the White House.
And his most prominent businesses are gambling casinos and beauty pageants — things that represent the worst of what secular society has to offer.
If many frum Jews end up supporting Trump it will be proof that orthodoxy is no barrier to assimilation. And the assimilation will be the worst kind — on the inside, rather than the outside.
charliehallParticipantI would prefer Biden but the nominee will be Clinton. And she will easily defeat any of the Republicans.
Sanders would make a great President but he ended his political career with his recent flipflop on guns.
charliehallParticipant“I suggested only the first clause, dealing with citizenship, be repealed. “
It is only that clause that prevents the Christian crazies from stripping us of our own citizenship.
charliehallParticipant“the borders are being overrun with tens of millions of illegal aliens.”
40% of illegal immigrants came here legally and over stayed their visas. To deport all of them would require a security apparatus resembling that of the former Soviet bloc during the Cold War.
charliehallParticipant“There is no excuse for the millions who broke the law and entered the United States illegally. “
Yup. He would have handed over illegal Jewish immigrants to the Nazis on 1940.
charliehallParticipant“There are quite a few jews NOW (Mostly Israelis, but not all Israelis only some) who are illegal Ailens. Should we deport them?”
That there are so many Israeli illegal immigrants is one reason why Israelis still need visas to travel to the US.
charliehallParticipant“How can a Jew be so anti-immigration?”
Only by being totally assimilated into the same racist nativism that doomed six million of our people. Jews depend upon open borders for survival and any anti-immigration politician is an enemy of the Jewish people.
charliehallParticipant“For several hundred years, undocument immigrants were deported only if they were convicted of a serious crime or ended up as public charges “
Not true. Until the late 18th century there was no concept of illegal immigration — anyone could come here, with basically no restrictions.
charliehallParticipant“The vast majority of the world are governed by jus sanguinis, not by jus soli. “
Canada, Mexico, and almost every other country in the Western Hemisphere follow jus soli.
If Israel’s Arab neighbors did there would not be a Palestinian refugee problem.

Actually there are still a lot of great public schools.
