If it looks shady it isn’t halachically okay. We are supposed to distance ourselves from even the appearance of sin.

    “Is it halachically ok”

There are many great rabbis who are vegetarians so you have sources on which to rely. In any case there is never any Torah obligation to eat meat other than in Jerusalem on the festivals.

I have not eaten meat or poultry in almost eight years, but I do eat dairy, fish, and (rarely) eggs. My wife is vegan. Being vegan can be much, much healthier.

They aren’t. Every Askenazic Ketubah for the past millenium has stated otherwise.

And since we are quoting Rambam it should be noted what else Rambam wrote, about being supported in learning by the community:

There is no doubt that the above is a completely false statement.

Trump supporters follow Midot Goebbels. Trump himself just installed the head for the most slanderous untruthful internet site around, Breitbart.com, as his campaign manager. Expect more of the same for the rest of the campaign.

And it was just revealed today that one of his few foreign policy advisors is a vile anti-Semite who prided himself on firing Jews while he was in government.

Only in one part of the world.

“Jews have always dressed differently than non-Jews. “

The Israel Museum in Jerusalem has an ethnography exhibit that proves that that is not true. For most of history we have dressed pretty similarly to non-Jews in the same geographic area. (One of my favorite examples, that I have often mentioned, is the adoption by Jews for the Fedora hat!) In recent times, frum Jews have consciously dressed more modestly than non-Jews but that wasn’t really necessary until the 20th century.

“the alternative is a rotzaiach a shakrin a ganev and someone who should be in jail”

You are guilty of motzi shem ra. Clinton has murdered nobody. Every fact-checker confirms that she is about as truthful as any politician today while Trump’s lying is at an unprecendented level. Clinton is not a thief and Trump is a robber — he has a decades long history of taking money under false and coercive pretenses. And Clinton has committed no crime so only a dictatorship like the one run by Trump’s buddy Putin would put her in jail.

“do we really have a choice?”

You could vote for Clinton. She is better than Trump in every thing we value as Jews. (Business fraud is described in the Torah as toeiva and Trump is a first class fraudster.)

Or you could vote for Johnson. He is a good person who is merely wrong on policy, although not as catastrophically wrong as Trump. (Johnson won’t tank the economy with his trade and tax policies and he won’t hand over US allies to Putin even though he is a foreign policy isolationist. And Johnson doesn’t incite racists, nativists, and anti-Semites.)

    “Can you say “benghazi”?”

Yes, Clinton was exonerated by multiple Republican led congressional investigations. They spent millions and could not find anything to pin on her.

And the investigations were a waste of time and money (from the allegedly fiscally conservative party). They concluded that there was no possible military intervention that could have saved the four Americans. I had actually proven that myself shortly after the attack from publicly available sources regarding the location of US bases and military assets in the region. The closest US Army units were seven hours away by helicopter. Multiple in-flight refuelings would have been required. Our servicemen would have had to land undetected in a country whose language they did not speak and whose alphabet they do not read and find their way to the location of the Consulate (known) and the CIA compound (which they probably did not know existed and would not have been permitted to have been told about) while dodging hostile forces from all sides (pro- and anti- Libyan government). Then, they would have had to fight their way out back to a safe place for helicopters to land and take them to safety. It would have likely been a suicide mission and far more than four Americans would have died — and the rescue would have been too late. It took me less than an hour to map all this out. So yes, I can say Benghazi and Clinton did nothing wrong. The only way to have insured that there will never be an incident like this is to close every US diplomatic facility in the world that is not on a US military base.

The 12th Amendment provides that if no candidate receives the majority of Electoral Votes, the House of Representatives, with each state having one vote, has to pick the President from the top three recipients of Electoral Votes. The Senate picks the Vice President from the top two. So we could have a Trump Presidency with a Kaine Vice Presidency. This procedure was used once for President, in 1824, and once for Vice President, in 1836.

I do accept that characterization of MO although the distinction between me and a charedi orthodox Jew has to do with my acceptance of science, history and secular culture rather than any differences in mitzvot observance. Akuperma is correct. The Finnish General Mannerheim (later President of Finland) defied Hitler and lived to tell the tale. Nazis had to put up with fighting alongside Finnish Jews who even had a tent synagogue on the front lines — you can find a famous photograph of that synagogue on the internet. Mannerheim also refused to allow the Finnish Army to commit war crimes by attacking Russian civilian targets during the war.

There is a Jewish school of some sort in Helsinki; I read in the Jerusalem Post a few years ago that it had over a hundred students and a lot were from families who had recently moved there from Russia or were Israeli expats.

I would like to know what the supposedly frum Jews are thinking when they publicly support him. There have been Presidents who have had more licentious lifestyles (Harding and Kennedy) but none who boasted about it. (The Republican National Committee actually paid hush money to one of Harding’s mistresses, one who was not the one with whom he had a child out of wedlock. They had some shame in 1920.)

And there has never been a major party Presidential nominee who has openly incited racists and anti-Semites like Trump has. (George Wallace did this, but he was a third party candidate.)

And there has never been a major party Presidential nominee whose foreign policy is designed to support the interests of one of America’s biggest adversaries at the expense of America’s allies. (Henry Wallace had such a policy, but he was a third party candidate. And he later admitted that he was wrong; Trump has never admitted he was wrong on anything.)

And there has never been a candidate as offensive to women, or as insulting to those who serve our country.

Nor ever a candidate, not even a third or fourth or fifth party candidate, who lies as brazenly and repeatedly and unapologetically. Even his wife — a model of non-tzniut dress — lied about her degree and there is no apology.

Trump is a model of everything Orthodox Jews are supposed to avoid.

“they think its a weird idea”

Maybe you are dating the wrong women for you.

“They are supposed to know what is relevant to them”

Which is almost everything. There are only about a dozen or so mitzvot in our times that are incumbent on men but not on women and women can and do take on most of them. And even in the Temple women could participate in the Avodah by shechting her own korban. (And some apparently did — there was a separate women’s entrance to the Courtyard of the Priests.

“Tznius is the essence of who she is”

But that is not an excuse to be ignorant. Or not fulfill mitzvot. And they can go together — a great example is the separate women’s entrance to the Courtyard of the Priests! Another great example today are the Women’s Tefillah Groups in some modern orthodox synagogues — no men allowed.

“as has been pointed out by the FBI that stated that there were emails marked classified at the time”

Actually only three were — and none of the three were marked properly. They only had a (c) before the classified line; red stamps “CONFIDENTIAL” at the top and bottom were also required. And at least two of the three had already been declassified at the time she sent them; the State Department indicated that it is possible that the third one was as well but they have not been able to confirm it.

Meanwhile, while nobody knew about Clinton’s server, the official secure servers at the State Department lost two hundred fifty two thousand, two hundred eighty two messages to Wikileaks. Nothing from Clinton’s server appeared on Wikileaks. And given that the link between Wikileaks and Russians has now been proven, it is likely that her emails would have ended up there had it been successfully hacked.

It is totally safe; Ireland has no real history of anti-Semitism.

But it is not the local custom. Jews in Ireland wear wool hats, not yarmulkes. You will stick out like a sore thumb. I wore mine and I did. It advertised me as a tourist.

And you will want the wool hat! It rains every day in Ireland in the summer. It is such a light misty rain that typically you don’t need an umbrella. My trip to Ireland was the only time I have ever missed Kiddush Levanah.

The government is anti-Israel but the people are warm and friendly. I had a Catholic cab driver who could not stop talking about how he was so happy with the Jewish school he sent his daughter to. (Not enough Jewish kids so the one Jewish school takes non Jews as well. It is well-funded by the government.)

No eruv anywhere in Ireland. Not enough Sabbath-observant Jews to justify one. No real kosher restaurants but there was a kosher caterer in Dublin who would send food anywhere in Ireland.

Wrong. I could document every single one of the things I wrote with a link except that YWN does not allow outside links. And Clinton has not done any of the things I pointed out.

Clinton has not cheated on two husbands.

Clinton has not cheated her business partners and suppliers.

Clinton has not abused bankruptcy and eminent domain laws.

Clinton has not illegally created a fraudulent university and has not bribed two state Attorneys-General.

Clinton has not run either beauty pageants or casinos.

And Clinton has never accused any political opponents of having been involved in assassinations.

    Her policies are correct, too.

She will not create a police state to round up illegal immigrants.

    Her tax plan is sensible.

She won’t start a worldwide trade war. (Republicans from Eisenhower to Romney understood that free trade was good for America and for the world. Now they have retrogressed to Herbert Hoover beliefs.)

She will keep America’s agreements with its allies. Even when the opponent is Putin.

“didn’t the FBI find that other secretaries of state, including Colin Powell, did similar things?”

Yes, they used unsecure email. So did Jeb Bush when as Governor of Florida he used unsecure email to discuss classified matters relating to National Guard deployments.

Interestingly, though, the major data breach from the State Department was from the Department’s *classified* systems used for diplomatic cables. Hundreds of thousands of those messages ended up on Wikileaks. But none of them were Clinton’s emails — the people who broke into the State Department’s servers didn’t know that Clinton’s system existed, so they couldn’t find it. Her server ended up being more secure than the official ones.
