“The event they attended wasn’t inherently anti-Semitic”

The organization itself is inherently anti-Semitic!

” and neither of them said anything remotely anti-Semitic at the event.”

Simply being there was an endorsement!!!

“is guaranteed to send them in that direction”

    They are already there.

“I don’t remember any large OUTRAGE headline over AOC or Ilhan Omar”

I have taken both on on their own social media sites. Ditto Tlaib and Sarsour. No need to do that here; all the anti-Semites who comment on this site are on the political right. And YWN management allows them to continue to post their hate.

“almost all republicans are very anti putin.”

No, the only one who is clearly anti-Putin is Mitt Romney. Nobody else voted to remove Trump from office for trying to end US security aid to Ukraine. All others bowed down and worshiped Trump’s totally pro-Russia policies. Now that they are embarrassed about that they are trying desperately to walk back their horrible error. Romney would have to become a Democrat in any state other than Utah. Trump’s Cult is going to do their best to end Romney’s political career and only his long support of his LDS Church may save him.

Most did. (Turkey is an exception.) But the US didn’t benefit, as Trump still insisted on massive needless increases in US defense spending.

“why so many rabid anti-semites support Biden, Harris, Clinton”

Why do so many anti-Semites support Trump? David Duke. Louis Farrakhan. Marjorie Tayor Greene. Rand Paul. (I didn’t use to think Paul was an anti-Semite but his blocking of Iron Dome proves that he is.)

“Mitt Romney had a clear anti-Russian position and was laughed at by everyone.”

Mitt Romney voted to remove Trump from office because Trump tried to stop US aid to Ukraine when President Zelensky refused to kowtow to Trump’s demands to stage a fake investigation of President Biden.

No other Republicans voted to hold Trump accountable for this horrible abuse. No other Republican has standing to complain about what is happening now as they empowered Trump in his attempts to destroy Ukraine.

Rabbi Avi Weiss has not spent a lifetime cheating in business and cheating on multiple wives. He has fought for Jews all over the world while Trump spouts anti-Semitic memes.

“Anyone who believes we are objectively doing better under this administration than under Trump has literally lost a grip on reality.”

Anyone who believes otherwise has no grip on reality.

Under Trump we had the highest unemployment rate since the Great Depression, negative economic growth overall, and a totally botched response to the COVID pandemic. Now the unemployment rate is down to historically low levels, the fastest economic growth in almost four decades, and the problem with COVID is idiots who refuse to get vaccinated or wear masks, not the government response. Oh and the infrastructure bill Trump promised but never wrote got enacted and we are finally going to start fixing water systems, bridges and tunnels, transit systems, and the like.

Trump has been raving like a madman ever since the invasion, praising Putin!

Anyone who still thinks we would be better off with Trump is a either a Putin Propagandist or a Useful Idiot. Trump has been a Putin fan for a long time and said so back in 2007! In 2016 he forced the Republican National Convention to gut a plank that supported Ukraine. In 2018 he threw all US intelligence agencies under the bus, denying the danger that they claimed Putin was, and said he believed Putin. In 2019 he tried to block security assistance to Ukraine. The question is, is Trump himself a Fellow Traveler or a Useful Idiot?

I see the Putin supporters are all out in force, trying to defend Putin’s stooge Trump.

We should recall Trump’s July 2018 summit with Putin. While there he dissed the FBI and CIA , threw Dan Coats under the bus, supporting Putin over all the US Intelligence professionals.

Back in the Reagan years, there was criticism of the “Blame America First” Democrats. Now it is Republcans who Blame America First. Among those who have appeared on Russian state TV recently are Tucker Carlson and Josh Hawley! Candace Owens suggested invading Canada!!! JD Vance suggested that it would be okay were Ukraine cease to exist, echoing the folks who say the same thing about Israel. Laura Ingraham, Paul Gosar, and Marjorie Taylor Greene are among the others who are serving as Putin propagandists. As are some commenters here.

“BOTH parties have totally miscalculated Putin’s resolve”

GW Bush miscalculated. Obama miscalculated. Romney called out Obama on that and was right.

Trump hasn’t miscalculated. He supports Putin’s resolve and did so even back in the 2016 campaign. And Romney is now derided as a RINO in part because he got this right.

Trump was the firat President since Herbert Hoover to lose his party the White House, the House of Representatives, and the Senate during his term. Yes, he is definitely a loser.

And we all should thank HaShem that he is not the President trying to deal with the current Ukraine crisis today. Biden may or may not be able to save Ukraine, but he isn’t going to be doing anything stupid and he isn’t going to be kowtowing to Putin the way Trump repeatedly did.

“how long vaccines are tested (10-15 years) until they are released”

More lies. For example, the Salk polio vaccine was developed in 1953 and given to 1.8 million children in 1954. Go back further, the smallpox vaccine was adopted almost immediately after it was discovered by accident in 1796. And that has been the case with more recent vaccines, too. We don’t waste time because there are lives to be saved.

“this isn’t a vaccine it’s an mRNA. Isn’t that worse?”

How to say, “I know nothing about vaccines and am proud of that fact.” The Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines are just that, vaccines. They use new technology, developed over the past two decades, that allows for vaccines to be developed and manufactured much more quickly and they have fewer side effects. So they are in fact better.

Why are you trying to kill Jews by spreading anti-vaxxer lies on a Jewish site?

“total restraint is the same as eliminating one element of checks & balances from the federal government, especially during “progressive” era.”

Their restraint was a reaction to the excesses of the notorious “Lochner” era in which the Supreme Court repeatedly tossed out attempt after attempt to provide any sensible economic regulation at either the state or federal levels. Brandeis and Cardozo felt that it was appropriate for State and Federal Governments to take actions to make markets fairer (Brandeis had been a huge anti-monopoly advocate) and to relieve human misery during the Great Depression and that the courts shouldn’t be trying to legislate. But they even voted along with the majority in A.L.A. Schechter Poultry Corp. v. United States to rule the National Recovery Act unconstitutional.

Frankfurter didn’t join the Court in time for the New Deal cases. (He took Cardozo’s seat.) But he in general was quite hostile to having the courts overturn what legislatures had done, objecting for example to the Court trying to enforce religious freedom mandates. He would be horrified by the current Court.

“We can’t have all Brandeises, Cardozos, and Frankfurters ”

The first three Jewish Supreme Court Justices!

Brandeis’s nomination by Wilson brought out every anti-Semitic Jew hater in America. He was the first SC nomination to be forced to have hearings in the Senate and his confirmation was delayed by months. Wilson’s previous appointment had been James McReynolds, the most anti-Semitic SC Justice in US history. Interestingly, Brandeis had been a Republican.

Cardozo’s nomination 16 years later by Hoover was the opposite. It brought Hoover enthusiastic praise from all parts of the political spectrum. It may have been the last time that there was wide agreement that the best judge in America had been appointed to the Supreme Court. Interestingly, Cardozo was a Democrat.

Frankfurter’s nomination 8 years later brought a return to the past. Not only anti-Semites but nativists (Frankfurter had been born in Vienna) joined the opposition. Frankfurter was the first nominee to have to appear in person before a Senate committee. Frankfurter was as political independent.

All three believed in judicial restraint, trying to avoid overturning actions by the legislative or executive branches. Brandeis and Cardozo often dissented from decisions by the Hughes Court overturning New Deal legislation; Frankfurter often dissented from decisions by the Stone, Vinson, and Warren courts.

Sadly, none of the three seemed to have the slightest interest in Judaism. Brandeis’s family had been Frankists and he himself had no interest in Judaism until for some reason in the 1910s he suddenly became a passionate secular Zionist. Cardozo admitted that he was agnostic although he did contribute financially to an orthodox Synagogue, Shearith Israel in New York City. Frankfurter was descended from rabbis, but was completely disinterested in religion, married a Christian minister’s daughter, and on the court consistently voted against expanding First Amendment religious freedom protection.

“we will have trillions of dollars worth of obsolete infrastructure whose financing costs will still have to be paid ”

Not an issue in New York City. The last major subway line was completed in 1940. The bonds have long since been paid off. Fewer commuters means that we might not have to build another half dozen lines to handle the still booming population. (NYC has about 1.3 million more people today than it did in 1940. That is roughly the population of Dallas.)
