    squeak,

oh, you don’t need a boost fo self esteem? oh, in that case I retract that statement.

    squeak,

the funny thing is that its actually true. If you overperform then next time more is expected and its very likely you will be underperforming even if you aren’t working less hard.

in reply to: YWN Coffee Room Nightly D’Var Torah #1123288

I didn’t have much time to prepare, but here’s a short vort I saw. I don’t have a chumash in front of me so if I am misquoting, I would appreciate being corrected.

In this weeks parsha, Parshas Vayechi, we find that after Yaakov Avinu was niftar, on the way to his burial in Eretz Yisroel, the mitzrim mourned him in Goren Ha’atad. The pasuk continues that the kna’ani saw the Egyptian mourning in Goren Ha’atad and said this is a great mourning for Egypt.

The Kli Yakar asks what the importance of goren ha’atad was and why did the fact that the mourning took place there cause the Kna’anim to take notice? He answers that the words Goren Ha’atad means a food storage silo which is surrounded by thorns. He goes on to explain that the seven years of hunger had been cut short after just 2 years when Yaakov had come down to Mitzraim. Now that Yaakov was niftar and therefore his zchus was no longer there, the famine resumed. When the Egyptians came to this goren, this food storage silo, they saw that it had miraculously become surrounded by thorns and there was no way to enter it and access the food inside. The famine had returned. That was when they realized that the famine had been halted in Yaakov’s zchus and they began to mourn the loss of this tzadik in who’s merit they had had food.

He continues to explain that not just in the case of Yaakov avinu and the Egyptian famine but always in all times and all generations the bracha of parnassa comes to the world in the zchus of tzadikim. The gemara brings down that one of the amoraim said that the entire world is fed in the zchus of my son chanina.

joseph, he should betray the other guy.

If he is silent he will either get 6 months (if the other guy is also silent) or 10 years (if his friend betrays him).

If he betrays his friend, his minimum goes down to no jail time (if the other guy is silent) and his maximum goes down to 5 years (if the other guy betrays).

so his choice is to have a range of 6 months to 10 years or to have a range of zero to 5 years.

But boy is that prosecutor unfair, lol.

    flatbush27,

your story reminds me of the fellow who, a couple of years ago, sued the city where he lives because a city vehicle pulled into his driveway and hit his car which was parked there. There was one catch – he is a city employee and he was the one driving the city vehicle at the time of the accident.

    shkoyach,

here’s a recap based on my memory. Everyone else please add whatever I missed, I’m sure I’m missing tons!

mod99 tried to eat too many donuts and ended up falling asleep on his couch and then needing a trip to south florida to recuperate.

curious became the official ywn artist.

I got drunk because I accidentaly thought it was purim and drank bourbon instead of eating latkes.

Brooklyn19 has become the life of the coffee room. And the most brilliant one here. (just kidding!!!)

There was very little mud slinging and flaming here, which is a good thing. I hope that continues.

everyone in the coffee room got together for an anonymous get together and chanuka party in a secret hidden bunker in Ireland.

I tried starting a pre-purim party thread about 5 minutes after the chanuka party thread was closed. It wasn’t approved. 🙁

    mod72,

if I email you a no-sugar 2% milk coffee will you let me start a purim thread?

Yes. Send the coffee now and submit the post on Rosh Chodesh Adar. YW Moderator-72 oh, the things you can do when you are a moderator :o)

cool. How did you know that? Did you have a link attached to one of your previous user names?

I think you should link your current name to disney.com

in reply to: New And Returning Members! #854657

    lkjhgfdsa,

my guess is that he typed html as his user name to make it that it should be a link to his website, but he misstyped it. The colon should have been before the slashes, not after. 🙁

    yossiea,

I have to be moche for the kavod of Rav Shmuel Kamenetzky Shlita, and I hope you will call him and ask for mechila. There are not too many aveiros as big as being publicly mevazeh talmidei chachomim. And btw, he’s a really nice person and I’m certain he will be mochel you if you ask.

Yes, he said he made a mistake but I don’t believe for one second that he signed without reading it. He was probably taking the blame for himself to cover for someone else. Anyone who knows him personally will tell you that this is typical of him – to be mevater on his kovod to avoid someone else being embarrased. I’m sure that there is more to the ban than what the public is aware of.

However, even without all that, even if Rav Shmuel would have just had a lapse in judgement and made a mistake, to compare that to a klutzy cardiologist who kills one patient after the next????? Do you know how many issues that affect klal yisroel he is involved in? Do you know how many yeshivos, day schools and communities across the country come to him for advice, not to mention the countless individuals he helps? And not to mention all the harbotzas hatorah he has done for over 50 years bli ayon horah in the Philly Yeshiva which he started and runs? I’m scared to write all this because I’m certainly understating it – who am I to give a haskamah on a Gadol – but after your silly attacks, someone has to speak up to defend the kavod hatorah.
