You cannot unconditionally believe everything that is written in books. In this case, these stories probably reflect the biases of the author, Jonathan Rosenblum (who is a columnist for Mishpacha magazine), more than the actual opinions of Rav Mendlowitz zt”l.
March 26, 2023 9:02 am at 9:02 am in reply to: Should girls wait for older sisters to get married? #2176997ChananiaLParticipantThere is a story brought down that the Chazon Ish instructed in such a case that they should make the tenaim for the younger sister and then hold off the wedding for up to a year and a half.
ChananiaLParticipantI highly doubt Rav Hirsch was wrong, more like Avira is misquoting him.
ChananiaLParticipantI don’t see any reason why other planets can’t have various forms of plant, animal, and microbial life, (as well as as minerals and other natural resources) put there for the use of humanity in some future time.
May 22, 2022 10:07 pm at 10:07 pm in reply to: CAN WE TAKE A TIME MACHINE TO THE PAST OR FUTURE? #2089604ChananiaLParticipantYes scientifically it’s possible to travel into the future by traveling at speeds close to the speed of light, this has been experimentally verified with many different methods. Theoretically it is possible to build rocket engines capable of traveling at 30% of the speed of light which involve the actual detonation of miniature nuclear weapons within the engine body, no different in principle than combustion engines, but generating far more thrust. It’s possible that at sometime in the future this will be practically attempted.
ChananiaLParticipantujm: Siily me for not noticing. Back in 2012 I worked at a job that paid $10 an hour. Things have gotten a lot more expensive since then.
ChananiaLParticipantIs this a joke? Anything less than $15 is plain immoral in 2022.
February 17, 2022 7:38 pm at 7:38 pm in reply to: NPR Is a Joke and Shouldn’t be Funded by Tax Dollars! #2061595ChananiaLParticipantYabia Omer: They’ve always been obsessed with race, they should rename themselves NCR-National Communist Radio. To be fair they do have some interesting programs for example Science Friday.
ChananiaLParticipantThere are plenty of girls who are looking for working boys. Do you think they’re second-class too? Do you think they’re not frum enough? Girl who are looking for learning boys will date learning boys, and it is not their job to validate your life choices.
December 10, 2020 12:57 pm at 12:57 pm in reply to: Was Every Married Guy Perfect when they Went Out on Dates? #1927670ChananiaLParticipant@ Rava would change “outgoing” to “confident” but otherwise totally agree.
ChananiaLParticipant@GadolHadorah They say feral cats kill billions of birds each year. Not to mention numerous species of Pacific islands flightless bird made extinct by them. I myself have found the remains of several of their victims around my house. If it was up to me any cat not wearing a bell collar would be shot on site.
December 7, 2020 7:09 am at 7:09 am in reply to: Was Every Married Guy Perfect when they Went Out on Dates? #1926520ChananiaLParticipantAnyone who has been dating for several years will have experienced a fair share of rejections. Trust me you’re not the only one in this situation. Without knowing you, I can’t give any personalized advice, but I can share something I have learned as a (somewhat) older single, and that is just be yourself. Try-hard and pandering doesn’t work with girls. Always be polite always be a gentleman, but be yourself.
My grandfather a”h was a great guy who got married at 38. I never asked him what took so long. All’s well that ends well. Chazak Ve’ematz.
ChananiaLParticipant@ GadolHadorah It is still Pidyon Shvuyim and a very great mitzvah. Or should we abandon them to years in prison (or mandatory death sentences in many Asian countries)? Do you know of any Rav that has said we should just abandon them? That would require very great pleitzes indeed. What if it was your close relative?
ChananiaLParticipantHe’s the best President Israel has ever had. Nothing else matters for a large segment of “Orthodox” voters.
ChananiaLParticipantHmm, looks like Reichlin-Melnick did win after all.
ChananiaLParticipant@common saychel That’s a grand total of 2813 (mostly) frum votes cast for Weber out of the 51,571 votes he received in total, or 5.5%. Weber currently leads by 3149 votes, with 27,593 absentee ballots still uncounted, 60% mailed by registered Democrats, so do the math, Weber will not win.
To summarize, the Frum vote is just about powerful enough in Rockland County to elect Town Supervisor/ Local Dogcatcher, and that’s about it.ChananiaLParticipant@ common saychel Reichlin-Melnick will win after mail-in ballots are counted. Also New Square voted for Reichlin-Melnick 666-95, so much for the frum vote.
ChananiaLParticipantcuomo in any national position would indeed be a nightmare.
ChananiaLParticipantAll along we voted for pro-late term abortion, pro militant homo-transsexuals and threw Torah principles under the bus because of our special “relationship” and “connections” with Democrat politicians. To quote Churchill, “you chose peace over honor, you shall have neither.”
ChananiaLParticipantYou would think International Jewry would take more of a stand on this issue, considering their historical experience. Remarkable how they shift between “interests” and “values”, depending on which is more convenient. Seems like this is more of an “interests” situation, antagonizing China is definitely not good for Israel.
ChananiaLParticipantYou can try KYS. Not a large member pool, but who knows maybe you will find someone.
ChananiaLParticipantRedleg, we are American citizens, yes, we can show a piece of paper that says we are American “citizens”, but we are not Americans, just like we weren’t Poles, Russians, Germans, Hungarians, Spaniards, Englishmen etc. “HEY Goyim, we are Americans just like you” doesn’t fool anyone, and leads to anti-semitism.
ChananiaLParticipantThanks Milhouse!
ChananiaLParticipant@Milhouse If someone wants to use the house when CTLawyer is not in Florida, they are expected to pay market rate rent. By your logic every tenant is exempt from paying rent because the landlord isn’t using the apartment anyways.
ChananiaLParticipant@ yehudayona If someone wants to use CTLawyer’s house when he is not in Florida, they are required to pay market rate rent. Same applies to the driveway. By your logic every tenant is exempt from rent because the landlord isn’t using the apartment anyway.
January 17, 2020 12:40 pm at 12:40 pm in reply to: How should one protest against shmoozers during davening? #1823806ChananiaLParticipantBest idea is simply to find another shul instead of working yourself up over something it’s very unlikely you can change.
January 17, 2020 8:22 am at 8:22 am in reply to: Yated, Hamodia, Jewish Press? What Is Your Choice? #1823714ChananiaLParticipantThe quality of the writing in Hamodia is far superior to Yated, and frankly more sane and intelligent.
