Hi Jothar. The film was a fictional, hilarious spoof of the Heavy Metal/Glam rock industry. But, if I am not mistaken, they did have Spinal Tap albums/CD’s sold in music stores.
The scene with the volume dial on the amp going up to 11 was hilarious, and it was true. Where most amps have a volume that goes up to 10, that one went up to 11, giving it that little extra kick. But there was also the guitar which was so valuable in the collection, that one cannot even look at it or it would lose value. Ok, enough. lol
November 9, 2011 6:05 pm at 6:05 pm in reply to: If you've read "NASI Project Responds", have you changed your mind? #847842BTGuyParticipantI am sorry, but I still think this whole thing is disgusting and is more like the commodities market or finding the right shoes for the right dress than it is actually for two people to find the person they really like and want to spend the rest of their lives with, building a future for generations.
The tone of this whole thing is undignified and wrong. Then when you see analysis comparing someone solely by the variable on being in their very low 20’s versus approaching their mid 20’s, and setting a price on that, I have to say this entire thing is absurd and this organization should be ashamed for putting an actuarial outlook to human beings and family life.
In the deli they charge by the pound. For a future wife and mother, you dont charge by the year. Disgusting!!

BTGuyParticipantSister Bear. In my opinion it sounds to me like you are burned out. You need to have down time. The irony is that is you take some down time to get away and casually walk, sit by a lake or ocean, etc., give yourself a vacation from your life for a few days; that you will have more mental spring to your step and be able to move forward through the same concerns all the better.
Just like we need sleep to unwind from the day, sometimes we need to turn down and rest our minds to handle things and become rejuvenated and get our second wind.
Hatzlacha!
BTGuyParticipantHi MiddlePath. The Black Album? Wasn’t that Spinal Tap (the Tap)?
BTGuyParticipantI want to underscore what Aries2756 said. The book, “Men are from Mars. Women are from Venus” is phenomenal. I have overheard many good things about that book over the years and when I had some time to browse through it, I saw it to be very enlightening and make total sense. Every man should read that book.
BTGuyParticipantThere are many kinds of Zionism, and those that support Torah are the one’s I support. Israel is our homeland and it should be fully in our hands. On a side note, there are enough xtian based countries and islamic countries. One Jewish state the size of Jersey should not be a matter of dissension for us.
Since I see the name Neuteri Karta (not to be confused with the Magna Carta), I will comment that I believe they are a group government plants in the same way government agencies infiltrate outlaw motorcycle gangs with their own “gang”, and in the same way “Occupy whatever” are paid to do what they do.
I cannot believe NK are really Jews who study the Torah. While I can understand a view of not holding to political Israel, it is totally not normal to hang out with achmaddogdinajad and pat him on the back and engage in photo opportunities with him while smiling for the camera.

November 9, 2011 1:56 pm at 1:56 pm in reply to: Acknowleding something good/nice that someone has done for you. #825955BTGuyParticipantHummingbird, keep doing nice things, as I am sure you will, because it helps make the world better in ways we may not even realize.
There may be a plethora of reasons someone does not acknowledge your thoughtfulness such as they are enjoying the good feeling as a break from the usual stress, and they forgot to show appreciation.
I would just add a piece of advice that I tell myself (when we are on speaking terms), which I read in Pirkei Avos. I am not wording it exactly, and I have to work on being more careful about not just remembering the concept, but also the exact wording. But it went like, “Dont do the good deed for the sake of the reward. Do the good deed ‘not’ for the sake of the reward. (Maybe someone can polish the wording up).
Continue doing what you are doing and know you are doing good things and Hashem is appreciative.
BTGuyParticipantA very nice thing happened to you. Dont be embarrased. Be happy you did something good to deserve that consideration.
I am glad you posted this. I want to try to do more chesed, myself, your post has inspired me to be more on the lookout for opportunities in the simplest places. Thank you.
November 8, 2011 5:53 pm at 5:53 pm in reply to: I can't believe what President Obama and Sarkozy said about Netanyahu!! #824872BTGuyParticipantenlightenedjew: The comments were inappropriate between world leaders about another world leader, and quite hypocritical. I have a problem with this Obama scenario, too. This one is more personal, like other issues such as Jonathan Pollard and Obama’s being hired out by Saudi Arabia to work on “fixing the arab world”. Others are totally free to be ok with this or any other Obama situation..
BTGuyParticipantHi 2cents, I am speculating here, but if you are having an online relationship with someone of the opposite gender ‘because’ you don’t see that person, eventually you will; or try to. If you like each other, can you label your interaction as dating (since you said you are available)? Otherwise, you may be getting into something down the road which will be less than an ideal relationship.
A great Rosh Yehshiva of a high school once gave the following moshal, although not in these exact words:
“If we go ahead and do what we want, if it is not the Torah way (and I am not saying this is not the Torah way), then we go ahead doing something we like and it seems sweet; but it will eventually become like thorns to us. If we want to do something, and hold back because it is not the Torah way, what seems like thorns to us at first, because we are holding back what we want to do, will end up yielding something sweet in the long run.”
BTGuyParticipantActually, the Beatles, who were great, no doubt, were media favorites who owe a plethora of hakaras hatov to George Martin who orchestrated nearly all of their songs. They also received too much credit for being innovative as their counter cultural influence was actually motivated by the experiences of the hippie movement such as the Grateful Dead and Ken Kesey, as evidenced in a popular, at that time, Tom Wolfe book.
The Beatles changed the world, but they were a conduit for sounds and styles they did not necessarily originate. But they are always good to hear, and as Brits, they are true Americana with songs that are timeless. I like to say that while other bands during that time made great music, the Beatles wrote great songs.
November 8, 2011 4:08 pm at 4:08 pm in reply to: I can't believe what President Obama and Sarkozy said about Netanyahu!! #824868BTGuyParticipantEnvy is a terrible thing. Obama is glad he does not have to deal with Netanyahu because Obama fancies himself a great speaker. Well, Netanyahu spoke before the US Congress, as you may remember, and as so often in many of his speeches, he hit a Grand Slam. Obama is a zero!
BTGuyParticipantNo matter how bad things are, I suggest both of you try a little harder. And it is for these reasons: There was a time when you two were obviously very close. Added to that is the fact it is expected after years of marriage and children, that two people can drift apart. That is part of what is to be expected in this, or in the event of where people remarry. It is better to deal with this great difficulty now in this marriage because getting out without leaving no stone unturned does not mean this sort of thing does not have to be dealt with in another, more complicated relationship.
I suggest therapy, but it is said individual therapy empowers the person paying for the session, so beware. Try to work it out between the two of you to regain the connection the two of you had. Individuals need guidance on how to mature with each other. There may be personal things going on that affect each of your roles with each other.
In regard to the title of your post, I would suggest that perhaps you are not feeling it is the right time, or you would proceed. So, get as much rest as you can, try to eat well, exercise (I am serious) dont isolate, daven, and try to work with your spouse.
Hatzlacha!!!!!!
BTGuyParticipantRolling Stones are better, but don’t start me up on this topic. lol. This is not the place.
BTGuyParticipantItz d derech of txting :))))
BTGuyParticipantBaalHabooze….very nice to read. Continued hatzlacha and all the best!
BTGuyParticipantzeeskite, you are a nice person. Jothar is a nice person. Everyone here is nice. I mean that! Some are wrong, but all are nice..lol I like the CR and everything everyone has to offer.
The security issue is very important, but the security issue was being handled in a way that has become divisive even when I backed out of it. It is the topic which should have been moderated and not those expressing their dissatisfaction.
If the site develops new policies, and wants our phone numbers; fine. But to make it a daily, multiple topic matter, clearly, is not too popular, to say the least. If I never said a word on this, it was still an issue that stuck out like a sore thumb this week. There is nothing moderate about moderating with bias.
Good Shabbos and let’s focus on Achdus next week maybe!
BTGuyParticipantThat is true. Let’s let all this gunk go and have a great Shabbos everyone!!!
BTGuyParticipantThank you real-brisker. They can’t fool all of the people all of the time.
Moderator, I am not so sure how you can distinguish anger versus a serious view in my post, but I have seen less than gentle comments made to posters by various moderators. Nonetheless, not one comment to the person ruffling feathers for the past two days, leading to those threads to having to be closed.
I was enjoying the CR earlier in the week and decided to stay out of it what was annoying me. Then others, by the droves, started reacting to a certain person in the same way I was and not only was there no comment from a moderator to that person who had their topics closed, there was even cooperation from moderators as the person called out their requests to the moderator.
Hmmmm.
Thank you for your effort in replying, though.
DIFFERENT MODERATORS HAVE DIFFERENT MINDS AND DIFFERENT RESPONSES
BTGuyParticipantNo Welcome Wagon, please! I would rather go through security at Newark Airport than what they may come up with here in order to pass security muster.
BTGuyParticipantAre you Jothar also?
BTGuyParticipantYou are not moderating fairly.
You had to close two threads today due to machlokes, and it was the same person being difficult and not a word to them. Not even a thank you to say we appreciate your efforts, but we got it under control. But with my post, oy, an intervention. lol
I stayed out of a few new threads today where people were less than their usual selves and unable to socialize in a relaxing manner. Please try to moderate fairly and dont delete and manipulate the posts to the benefit of one over the other. Its not right.
WE DO TRY. IT’S USUALLY THE POSTS THAT GET WRITTEN WITH ANGER TOWARD OTHER POSTERS, THAT GET DELETED.
BTGuyParticipantAvrum.. you are just as fishy as Jothar. Are you the same???
I think in the name of Jothar, this site has a new problem!
WE’RE TIRED OF MODERATING NASTY COMMENTS. LET’S KEEP THE TONE COOL. LET’S RESUME TO PLEASANT POSTING AGAIN. (and no, I’m not Jothar)
November 4, 2011 5:09 pm at 5:09 pm in reply to: Should BMG Have A Say In Lakewood Politics? #824106BTGuyParticipantHi apushatayid. Just adding to your comment. BMG and Lakewood politics is a big issue all over the place. I agree with your statement.
BTGuyParticipantmommamia22, I dont know if shidduchim can be made into science as everyone is trying to do. It obviously creates a lot of anxiety and stress. The most important ingredient in this is Hashem. Second, I would guess, is if the two dating really start to like each other.
Can one say that every person from the “right school and right family” will be more loving, better behaved, considerate, and compatible than anyone from a “not-so-right” school or family?
I guess I am saying put effort into nurturing the kind of lifestyle that will enhance your child’s
status, who you know is great anyway, but dont stress so much on the small stuff.
There is a great saying which says, “The road is not the map.” I hope that makes some sense.
Hatzlacha, and your children are very lucky to have a thoughtful and conscientious mom like you.
BTGuyParticipantJothar, good point! Focus on the self can be poison in a lot of areas. Mussar does help.
BTGuyParticipantlol always here. I agree with you, except in the case where someone really needs one.
BTGuyParticipantAfrica (Africa)
BTGuyParticipantCall your Rabbi or any Bais Horaah.
Refuah Shelayma!
November 4, 2011 3:54 pm at 3:54 pm in reply to: Should BMG Have A Say In Lakewood Politics? #824104BTGuyParticipantHi apushatayid – Having been directly involved with local, Lakewood politics as a candidate’s campaign manager and a treasurer, in my experience “BMG” has never endorsed any candidate. However, people extremely closely tied to BMG, and some not-so-tied to BMG, but in the community nonetheless, not only endorse, but are also highly influential in placing candidates on the ballot for both parties. Again, any one action taken in the political arena is going to be subject to either great support or great criticism. But that is politics. Once you are in the game, and to a degree, one must be involved in the political arena, you have to hit the pavement running or you are out. I think Lakewood cannot do enough for the Jewish community.
BTGuyParticipantThe best? I dont know. I rarely turn down chocolate. Hershey, Godiva, Astor…milk chocolate, dark, with almonds….. please pass a piece over here. Thanks.
BTGuyParticipantDare I say anything but endothermic at this point?
November 4, 2011 2:15 pm at 2:15 pm in reply to: Should BMG Have A Say In Lakewood Politics? #824100BTGuyParticipantBMG should most definitely have a say in Lakewood, state, and national politics, if it sees fit. BMG is a major institution that also is part of the American fabric, just like any, l’havdil, component of society such as a business, athletic team, and double l’havdil Georgian Court College as well as other religious organizations, too, who seek to have their concerns addressed buy political due process.
Further, having said that, and politics being what it is, the way that “say” is manifest by any given individual on behalf of BMG will always be of a politically debatable nature.
I say let BMG be BMG and come to a consensus of what they want to do. There are some pretty smart people over there. 🙂
BTGuyParticipantOh, thank you, msseeker. Much appreciated.
BTGuyParticipantWhat? Everyone here already clean the lint out of their belly button?
BTGuyParticipantYour (like snore) Screen (like green) and Name (like claim)
BTGuyParticipantAny other suggestions??
BTGuyParticipantIceland
BTGuyParticipantJothar, my friend. Do you mean by frequency how often? Or the hertz (Hz). I never know with you…lol
BTGuyParticipantThis is a good question. The ad money alone would make it a worthwhile venture.
BTGuyParticipantRefuah Shelayma to Efrat bas Hadas, Devorah bas Chana Bayla, and Moshe Yehuda ben Rus. I wrote the names down to daven for them.

November 3, 2011 1:04 pm at 1:04 pm in reply to: Inglish – as She is spoken around the world #823329BTGuyParticipantHopefully no one will mind a reference to Abbott and Costello.
Upon winning dozens of roller skates in a contest and not knowing what to do with them, Bud Abbott suggested to Lou Costello that he go out and sell them so they would have money for the rent.
So there is Lou Costello, pulling a wagon loaded with roller skates….and a sign reading, “Abbott and Costello, Cheap Skates.”
BTGuyParticipantWhat is the update? Do you have the names to daven for? Efrat bas Hadas?? I will go with that unless someone says otherwise.
November 3, 2011 12:59 pm at 12:59 pm in reply to: What are your views on learning Chassidus? #823459BTGuyParticipantBeing a BTguy, I have had the true privilege of being exposed to many sects within our religion, to share in celebrations and to learn. In my experience, it’s all good. I have respect for all. The different perspectives all add up to Judaism, as I see it. I happen to find Chassidish influences very inspiring. I see no reason to see it as a red flag. I mean, people can find fault within any segment of Judaism, but I will say, there are people within each segment of frum Judaism that are better representatives than others, but that is all part of each of us growing spiritually.
BTGuyParticipantMy problem with beeps are on voice mails. They tell us “at the sounds of the beep” to leave a message. I am not quick enough and always leave a message after the beep. Then I have to go back to leave a very very quick message at the beep. I can barely get a word in edgewise. Impossible!
BTGuyParticipantHow do you think the teachers feel? : )
BTGuyParticipantcinderella, you are very welcome. What you are doing is top-of-the-line stuff, and you care a lot about doing the right thing. As you know, very Jew should spiritually grow, it’s just that some people, as you are seeing, are at a difficult point in their life or are difficult themselves since they were raised outside the realm of Torah, or for any other reason. Even what you have done to date is more remarkable thank you realize. Have a great day!
