    Well, well, well… Looks like Peyton Manning is very unhappy with Indianapolis.

    Perhaps he may want to consider playing up in the Jersey/York area like his brother.

    If so, Giants fans (DJHocker and Company), we are looking at back to back, minimum, Super Bowl wins for the Jets starting immediately with the SB after this one (b’lee neder)…lol

    Speaking of the Giants trail of amazing, incomparable, luck, legendary sportscaster Warner Wolf said there is the jinx of Sports Illustrated, whereas the team who has a player make it’s cover before the Super Bowl, always loses.

    Much to the favor of Giants fans, Tom Brady was put on the cover of SI.

    We shall see, DJ. But for “oh 13”, it’s the Jets all the way, IF they can trade off Sanchez.

    Good luck to the Giants and Eli Mannchez. It should be a great Super Bowl!!

    Hi Burnt Steak.

    You are right on all counts.

    And the Giants are one of the luckiest.

    It’s not because they dont have great players, they do. But as a team Eli’s stats are highly

    puzzling because on the field he looks average at best. He also has the best stats for throwing

    the ball into the stands.

    There are a lot of great times out there. The Giants going to the Super Bowl is kinda funny.

    It’s very possible they don’t, but from what I looked up that was the reason the Dr was arrested.

    It’s possible the pills here in America may not have that ingredient.

    That is part of the territory. Kinda accept there will be silences and try not to sweat them. She also may feel the same about the silences.

    Just know it is normal since you are getting to know someone new.

    It is always good to maybe look around and comment on something going on in the moment.

    Maybe make believe you may have just seen a UFO and then move into if she believes in UFO’s and life on other planet. It may sound silly, but the point is, I guess, to spend time and see if you both can grow closer in time.

    Think of some things that are interesting to you and prepare some questions ahead of time based on those things. Expect things to be choppy and know it’s ok. And if she works with you and you see she is also wanting the conversation to flow, that is a good sign.

    Someone should correct me on this if I am wrong.

    But it became my understanding that the volume of “Amens” should be in line with the volume

    of the davening and bracha being said. Not louder; and not much lower.

    If someone can expound, I would appreciate that.

    Immanuel Kant is a big one in Existentialism, an interesting branch of philosophy. You will probably study his idea of Categorical Imperative, which can come in useful as a back up for non-believers who want to figure out how to determine what is or is not moral.

    Your post made my day. Thank you for sharing your learning process. I really got a lot out of reading how you took the bull by the horns on this. I can tell you did a great job just by the way you describe how you have to show the advantages and incompleteness of the theory. I bet you did a great evaluation!

    I think your efforts are huge and as a fellow Jew, I get a sense of pride knowing you are taking such an admirable approach in this endeavor.

    I want to share that once I had read that a Ben Torah tries to handle everything that comes their way better than the average person.

    They key is “handle” and regardless of the outcome, even though I am sure you will get a great grade because anything you put sincere effort into is going to yield good things, you may always look at this class, which you once were not overly thrilled about, as one of your most meaningful academic experiences.

    I can tell you feel a great sense of accomplishment. And you should!

    I am not disgreeing with those speaking to the halachic perspective on this.

    But it needs to be said that such a thing, chas veshalom, is a violation of their partners/familys’ emotions, dignity, and trust. And causes damage to all three.

    Yes, they are lucky and from the worse division in the NFL. (just some friendly Jet/giant(midget) rivalry..lol)

    I will admit there are times the D and Bradshaw and Cruz look good, but Manning is inconsistent except for throwing the ball into the stands. lol.

    And, for the record, they never beat the Jets. They beat Sanchez, who has to go. We are gunning now for Peyton Manning, and should we get him, expect, at minimum, back to back Super Bowls.

    If the Giants are tough, like they can be once in a while, they have a chance. But the 49ers are very professional and consistent.

    Good luck with the Giants (they are going to need it). lol

    I totally understand your point and sympathize with you.

    It is my understanding that with loshon hafa one should not feel like they should just not talk. On the contrary, there are times when you have to say something and cannot stand by. But certain conditions have to be met.

    Bottom line, one has to learn the laws of loshon hara. It is very important.

    I hope the moderators allow this link in my post. I recommend you save it and read it each day as a new lesson automatically appears.

    In a short while, you will feel like you have some grasp on how to handle matters of speech. It is a start, and that is the best place to being.

    Skype is a good way to break the ice, unless you feel you dont want to be sitting there with a face shot that she may enlarge to cover the entire screen..

    Sometimes, in person, where you can move and walk and gesture is a bit better. It depends on how you feel about Skype after speaking to your rabbi.

    Just be sure if she is from LA (Lake Arrowhead?) that she does not have gang affiliation. If she does, make sure no one has a beef with her before you get out there, yo.

    Hey LD.

    If they sent you a check, tell them you cant find it and to check their checbook to see if someone cashed it.

    They should probably offer to cancel that check and send you a new one, or apologize they may have forgotten to include it.

    I have sent large amounts of mail out and then wondered if I put all the necessary things in the envelopes.

    I would not count on the post office locating it.

    I think they are doing that for their kids who get those stickers from school. It’s a family thing.

    I can totally understand it, and I am totally for it.

    The dumb ones, to me, are the ones that read, “My kid beat up your honor student.” Why would they want THAT on their bumper? It’s mean. Also, the ones that read, “My pomeranian is smarter than your honor student,” are equally dumb.

    It’s the battle of “on the road reading materials.” I appreciate drivers want to give us something to read at a red light, but let’s not have rivalries.

    The real problem that I can see is for the child. Suppose just one marking period they get even a B-. Off goes the sticker or the kid has to look at it for four months until the next report card. They have pressure to live up to a bumper sticker.

    Yes, their influence is an important part of the mosaic of what we call the English language.

    Why, you could not even have a troll pa-trol, without their influence. How ironic.

    Think of a world sans pe-trol products. Food would not be the same.

    I googled the info and it seems the couple were arrested on suspicion of putting sibutramine in the pills they marketed as having “natural” ingredients.

    It seems sibutramine is a pharmaceutical appetite suppressant used by medical doctors, and not a “natural” ingredient. And as pharmaceuticals go, in this case there seem to be concerns of possible cardiovascular side effects which require checking in with a doctor.

    You are correct and I appreciate you prompting me to clarify this important issue, and to learn something that I previously did not know. Thank you.

    From what I was told, if one gives tzedaka to someone or an organization and they turn out to not use the money properly, even if you dont know it, you do not get the mitzvah of giving tzedaka.

    I was told the person does not go away totally empty handed because they acquire a merit for “wanting to do a mitzvah”, according to the gemara, but they are not getting the specific mitzvah of giving tzedaka.

    If I still need to sharpen my understanding, please let me know in the event you come across this and have a moment to post.

    You bring up a good, thought-provoking point in morality being a factor in how to judge the

    overall person.

    There is an argument to be made that morality is not necessarily a determining factor for a capable politician.

    The political arena is filled with extremes of those who support and those who hate any given person, but I will toss in a few names here with a comment or two.

    1. I like the work Spitzer was doing as an attorney general. He went out on a limb to do a great job, and they got something on him to take him out. But workwise, I commend him.

    2. Clinton left the federal government with a surplus of money. Period. If there are those who want to credit Reagan, fine. Let’s go there.

    3. Ronald Reagan did not, to my understanding, totally sever ties with his then wife when he met and began a relationship with Nancy.

    4. Rudy Giuliani, privately, socially, not only played the field, but parties with toeiva people and is not against that. But would I want Rudy in office? If I could cast two votes, I would, but I dont speak Spanish.

    5. Roy Cohn, a noted conservative in NY politics who was held in the highest of esteem. Also, a private life we would not recommend for anyone.

    I know there are more.

    On the other hand, there were philanderers who just wasted time in office and did not serve their constituents well and used taxpayers money for illicit parties and activities.

    It IS a factor to consider, but not THE litmus, in my opinion.

    Down in south jersey, Tuckerton, there is a road with a huge golf course that is on both sides of the road.

    There is a yellow road sign with a picture of a guy with a knit cap and baggy pants that stop at mid-leg which reads, ” Slow Golfers Crossing”. As if there are any other kind. lol

    It actually has the reverse effect on drivers.

    Anyway…the media has the country’s mind in the palm of it’s hands.

    They find one thing wrong with a GOP candidate and all of us perceive them as having their chances ruined.

    Obama, does more wrong than he can fit in a day, and we are to perceive he is still the odds on favorite to win the election. I guess we have to believe what they say, and many do and base their votes on the tone of the articles they read about the candidates.

    Now, had he studied with Kesey and Kerouac….that would be another story…

    Historically, in light of your mentioning Leary, there WERE some world-renowned, preeminent doctors that did work in that unchartered territory, namely Dr. Albert Hoffman and Stanislav Grof. In contrast to Ginsburg, notables like Aldous Huxley and a slew of others, including a president dabbled in the forbidden. I dont want to mention the president, but his name rhymes with shmennedy.

    Seriously, you have to ask a Rabbi first, because if the camp is not addressing, chas veshalom, a sakana issue, you cannot stand by and let it be.
