brotherofursParticipant
yepp 1-4 and 7 left!!
brotherofursParticipantreally? then how’d it get to me? i never heard of that camp
brotherofursParticipantananas- 5 is correct 🙂
6 is easy, and recent, come on!:D
brotherofursParticipantDarchei binah- said by someone i know:
“I dont think you should base your decision on me, especially because i went there and i didnt think it was the right seminary for me so i might have a negetive perspective but i do know about it and i’ll tell you what i experienced and what i remember:
1. to find out where everything they learned came from so that they know for life. teachers they can get close to, somewhere to grow.
2. important, you have to read a meforash and explain it and get Rabbi Kurland to like you ;)figure out his sense of humor
3. there were all different classes. some with charusos, some lectures and some writing notes, and most were intense.
4&5.from what i remember some classes you have to take like a type of navi class, tzenius, shabbat, gur aryeh, chumash, and others are optional like mesilat yesharim, or kashrut -there are at least 20 different ones to choose from
6. there is at least 1 test a week, quizzes, reports, a lot of homework and studying.
7.getting as much work done was important and work was a biggg factor of importance.
8. what made it hard for me was there were a lot of classes that involved a lot of mefarshim and the text, delving into the subject ex. hatzneah leches (tzenius) and tons of studying.
9. very open-the students would talk to the teachers privately about anything(boyfriends or different halachos) every week there was ‘ask the Rabbi’ where we would accompany the Rabbi at his house and we were able to ask any questions we wanted. the teachers are very experienced and most of them speak around the world and have met a lot of people and are able to talk to the students. such as;Rabbi Orlavsky, Rabbi Nissel, Mrs. Smiles, Rabbi Teller etc.
10. both- growing spiritually through the texts and sources
11. i think 95% of the school are people that grew up towards the right. (very few people that did not grow up religious at all)
12. there are classes on middos and they do focus a lot on dress, but there’s no uniform and most of the classes help the girls love halachot and Judaism and respect and love Torah
13. there were about 80 girls from shana aleph and about 30 shana bet girls, when i attended and there were many different groups and in my opinion, every single girl felt comfortable somewhere, no one seemed left out.
14. yes, theres a big trip to Poland for about a week (i think) in March. -it was an amazing experience and the schedule was well organized and meaningful.
15. rules like: no yaffa street, ben yehudah street or in town past 6 pm. curfew at 12 am, no laptops, yes cell phones and texting(not in class 😉 dress code:skirts, tights, long sleeve shirts, high collar, no slits, – you are able to wear jean and any colors you want.
16. see above 😉
17. 3 buildings. they all have kitchens, the girls are responsible for keeping it clean, very strict with toranut-each girl is responsible for cleaning a specific part in the dorm every week (don’t worry no toilets involved ;)some are spacious others are smaller like the basement. Request 1 roomate ONLY- rather than 2- cuz you’ll be cramped in a bunk bed.
18. you can go out every shabbos and yom tov, except for maybe twice a year, you have to let them know where you are staying-(very strict)
19. 1 meal a day-lunch- consists of salad, vegetables,a carb, a protein, soup, and dessert. you have to go shopping and cook the rest. (there’s a makolet down the block that delivers)
brotherofursParticipantDMC- deep meaningful conversation
BT- baal teshuva
brotherofursParticipanti know someone who went to darchei binah and she looked at your post of what type of girl your daughter is and she thinks Darchei binah is perfect for her! she said there were many girls in darchei bina who were exactly like your daughter sounds and they loved it there, it was perfect for them!- very intellectual,-tons of studying and delving into the subjects, made lifelong friends, relationships with teachers, same type of girls,(from beis yaakov, openminded, some listen to non jewish music and same skirt length..)
brotherofursParticipantone more!;)
8.”and we’ll fly away you and i together, to a place down on the land.”
brotherofursParticipant4.”above them soars the eagle flying towards a distant light, not a glance back at the shadows, he spreads his wings in flight”
5.”deep within the iron gate, far from the stench of war and hate, he knew not of the world had gone insane”
6.”the words resounded, who would come to answer his call”
7.”he wants to run and jump and play, like all the other boys”
brotherofursParticipanti love this thread! its soo much fun!
get these?
1.”I try to speak, the words not coming out clear but still its these words that you can hear”
2. “Keep Hashem with you wherever you go, its up to you from today”
3.”one season following another, laden with happiness and tears”
brotherofursParticipantoh 🙁 does that mean theres no way i can hear it anywhere? ..thanks for the lyrics snapplegirl 🙂
brotherofursParticipanthaha reminds me of my mother
brotherofursParticipantthanks!! do u know where i can get it?
brotherofursParticipantSyag Lchochma- i don’t agree at all , i think you ARE able to ask for a ‘horse’ from Hashem. Hashem can do anything!! and in the blink of an eye you can have your horse. Hashem is limitless NOTHING is impossible.
brotherofursParticipantbut Sam Hashem does answer you!!
brotherofursParticipantSam2- i don’t understand,
did u ever pray either: that you should be able to wake up in the morning, that you should always have bitachon in Hashem, that you should be able to use you 5 senses, or be able to understand words when you read them-if you did then surely are getting your tefillot answered every day of your life!
i think the key is to realize all you have, then when you realize it-keep praying that the good stuff should continue, and when it does-Hashem answered! 😀
brotherofursParticipantoh theres a new song ‘yeheyu l’ratzon’ by nachas-its very good!
brotherofursParticipantmusicaldignity i second that!! last yr we missed a week of school! so far it’s been spring all over again!
brotherofursParticipantYESSS i’ve been waiting for it this whole time!!!
January 5, 2012 8:51 pm at 8:51 pm in reply to: Reading "Fairy Tale" books to our children! #1088610brotherofursParticipanthaha i remember little black sambo, i know a little boy named sammy and ppl called him “sambo” so someone got him that book 😀
January 5, 2012 7:30 pm at 7:30 pm in reply to: I just know this is going to go the wrong way #844636brotherofursParticipanti was gonna answer ‘take it wiht you and put it in a box for Mashiach if u cant find the owner’ -sorry live in brooklyn, not used to this 😉
brotherofursParticipanti’ve been debating about this the whole night last nite, whether to eat or not. i decided not to becassue i heard from a lot of poeple that once you eat it starts your metabolism and you end up getting hungrier than you would have.. so far though- i’m still hungry :[
brotherofursParticipantybc5
or miami boys choir chanukah cd
brotherofursParticipantIt’s amazing how you thought of all this just by looking at a wick being lit! Thanks for the inspiration 😀
brotherofursParticipantWow sounds like fun! i wish i saw this thread before..:)
You can always play pass the present -with either presents inside, or challenges ( like: who can blow a bubble with gum first) or they have to answer a question about chanukah.
Or you put different color stickers under the chairs or plates, and whoever has a certain sticker gets a prize or has to answer a question.
brotherofursParticipantthanks so much!
brotherofursParticipantsomeone i know wheres some denim skirts everyday but usually on dates she dresses a little fancier, like a nice sweater and skirt (not a very fancy shabbat outfit..but sm that could be both for a restaurant or to the park)
brotherofursParticipantsam 2- hmmm oh so maybe it’s only if you say enough to be yotzei, idk thnx 🙂
brotherofursParticipantsam2 we asked him that question too, someone asked “Is it better to pray the whole shacharit but not as much kavanah or to pray ex only birchot hashachar but have a lot of kavanah. and the Rabbi said to pray the whole thing
brotherofursParticipantsomeone asked a Rabbi once ‘is it better to pray in english and understand it, then to pray in lashon hakodesh and not understand it?’
he said to pray in lashon hakodesh is better! .. i heard this a few times, cuz the tefillot and the words that the avot wrote for us have a lot of power and are not just regular words. of course your tefillah is 10x better if you understand it too, but one should always pray in lashon hakodesh (unless they can’t physically read hebrew i guess)
brotherofursParticipantcinderella- i totally agree,
in the beginning i did have to get used to doing all the meforshim (not only rashi) but now that we do a lot of meforshim , i love it! if i ever really do just wanna pick up the chumash and learn in my life i am able to understand it without asking my father. it’s the best feeling in the world to be able to understand and learn our Torah!
brotherofursParticipanti heard once that if you don’t go by kabbalah usually then you don’t have to do this procedure , is that true?
brotherofursParticipantyeah but they Are selling it already my friend has it on her ipod even though the cd didnt come out yet
brotherofursParticipanto ok thanks 🙂

November 3, 2011 2:43 am at 2:43 am in reply to: Inglish – as She is spoken around the world #823328brotherofursParticipantcv- goo point.
i was still cracking up from
“WHEN PASSENGER OF FOOT HEAVE IN SIGHT, TOOTLE THE HORN. TRUMPET HIM MELODIOUSLY AT FIRST, BUT IF HE STILL OBSTACLES YOUR PASSAGE THEN TOOTLE HIM WITH VIGOR.”
LOL tootle!! 😀 😀
brotherofursParticipantmy school is also tracked by the levels of the girls in each class, this way every girl is able to succeed. MAybe you can get a tutor? or maybe even a girl in the clss to help yu,-who knows? maybe you’ll get close to her:)
its really crazy i feel like every teenager feels the same way. i’ve heard from many girls the same stories as u guyz sadly :(. and last year i was having a hard time with friends and stuff too. this year b”H it got better and it was all to my benefit that i went through that! i think i truly realized what it means to appreciate the friends that i have now. I wouldn’t have appreciated them in the past..
anyway im trying to tell you that that everything your going through now is to make you the best person you can be and is designed especially for you by the creator of the world! just keep that in mind as you go through challenges and pray to Hashem that you should see the good in what He’s doing.
.. by the way it helps with friends issues to become friends with the people that don’t have friends instead of the ‘popular people’. You can become close to people who really want you as a friend and will appreciate you, (not people who you follow around and they hardly notice)
Juust stay happy! give to others and pray to Hashem to help you overcome your challenge and remember to thank Him and appreciate everything. GL!
brotherofursParticipantPleasee if anyone did read it let me know cuz i wanna make sure that its like ‘kosher’
November 2, 2011 4:06 am at 4:06 am in reply to: A Shul that's a blend of all the new successful Shuls, for BP #823093brotherofursParticipantthanks dr.suess!:)
brotherofursParticipantMp that was amazing!!i think this post is gonna change my life b”H! i think its soo good and im soo excited that i now am aware of all this because of you!
And you really are amazing, there are not many op’s who make sure to respond to each of the posters that post on the thread they made! i think its soo nice of you to take the time to do this and it really makes people feel good. I can see how everything you wrote really reflects the person that you are, we’re so lucky you’re in cr so that we can emulate your ways. 😀 [all compliments are inspired by U!]

November 2, 2011 3:38 am at 3:38 am in reply to: I'm sitting at a Simcha; What would we do without our thumbs? #823212brotherofursParticipanti thought this was a thread about how much we should really appreciate our thumbs any time and especially at a simcha so we can dance and like hold a fork 😉
November 2, 2011 3:32 am at 3:32 am in reply to: because its easier to criticize rather than empathize #823570brotherofursParticipantnot weird i think its very nice, and you’re totally right i should really be more conscious of what my first reaction is when i hear that someone got hurt. Thanks for the help!
brotherofursParticipantok people, its NOT pronounced brother of furs.. it IS pronounced BROTHER OF YOUR’S..do u get it now???:)
brotherofursParticipantlol minyan okay fine so im not so great at grammar but dont compare to junie b! :)[anyway i dont remember seeing run ons in the book]

October 30, 2011 5:03 pm at 5:03 pm in reply to: HOW MUCH? can/should you daven for something?? #1049208brotherofursParticipantkeep praying always and realize that not one of your tefillot go to waste. if Hashem didnt answer you the first time you prayed then it wasnt good for you then but that tefilla still did something!
it couldve even saved someone across the world. Keep praying and Hashem will answer when its good for you but each tefilla makes you more worthy of being answered. [maybe in order to be answered you had to pray a certain amount];) may Hashem answer all your tefillot!
