December 12, 2008 1:20 am at 1:20 am in reply to: Looking For a Mamar Chazal About Cosmetics #635061brooklyn19Participanti’m deciding between jackie kennedy and audrey hepburn…

who checks them?!?!
brooklyn19Participantnotpashut
just ignore him. he’s just jealous cuz we’re probably moderators 🙂
brooklyn19Participant1) another name for William Jefferson Blythe IV?
2) which president has a middle initial, but no middle name?
3) during which president did uncle sam grow a beard?
4) which president got stuck in a bathtub?
5) (this one you’re gonna know) which president choked on a pretzel while watching the superbowl?
6) which president was known as the “dead dog in the white house?”
pretty easy ones!
brooklyn19Participantthe metal clips don’t beep?
brooklyn19ParticipantWOODRIGE1: thanks. and yeah, i did grow since then, but not really from that – it’s despite that. which i think is what made me into a human being. fortunately, i have an amazing rav that helped me along the way. took a while, but we’re getting there. (“we” as in “I”!)
and if it’ll keep you in the bais medrash, anytime!
brooklyn19Participantthink of it like this: there a million pesukim and maamre chazal that tell us the reward for a specific mitzva. it’s not a secret. if someone only honors his parents so that he’ll live a long life, it’s not lishma – but he still did the mitzva. “mitoch she’lo lishma, bah lishma”
brooklyn19Participantwow how’d that last post of mine end up here?!?! sorry – ignore it!
brooklyn19Participantthink of it like this: there a million pesukim and maamre chazal that tell us the reward for a specific mitzva. it’s not a secret. if someone only honors his parents so that he’ll live a long life, it’s not lishma – but he still did the mitzva. “mitoch she’lo lishma, bah lishma”
brooklyn19Participantyou especially try not to hurt or offend people that you don’t know. how ’bout the ones you DO know? poor them! 😉
brooklyn19Participantpoetic license 😉
brooklyn19Participantbtw everyone: joseph’s not a moderator. he’s such a fake – he got a post moderated the other day. (was it yesterday?) so he and ROB are two old friends who formed a pact not to reveal anything to the rest of us, and they spend their days laughing at the rest of us. (wow what a run-on sentence!)
brooklyn19Participantwhat do i get away with? maybe my views are so on target that there’s almost nothing to moderate. ever though about that?
brooklyn19Participantthey say new addicts tend to overdose more. i guess that’s me.
December 11, 2008 8:32 pm at 8:32 pm in reply to: Looking For a Mamar Chazal About Cosmetics #635058brooklyn19Participantok, oomis. than ALL the girls out there! lol jk.
brooklyn19Participantwell, squeak, i’m glad to have had the opportunity to spare you the grief of confusion. No “we” means “me”!
brooklyn19Participantwell maybe i’m superhuman and i have the same amount of maalos that usually are spread out between many different people! maybe!
lol i’m hyping it up. i’m really pretty normal with what i think is a healthy ego/self esteem. (but that’s still probably the reason why i’m not married… it’s ok – the guys have no idea what they’re missing out on!)
December 11, 2008 7:38 pm at 7:38 pm in reply to: Looking For a Mamar Chazal About Cosmetics #635054brooklyn19Participantbeacon: it’s a problem. i know. but i like it. at least i don’t have to look at others for my self image. it’s all here!
btw was that girl gorgeous? maybe it was me! (lol i’m KIDDING! i’m not SO bad!)
brooklyn19ParticipantI think you’ve earned the title “SOMEBODY” in capital letters. Thanks.
brooklyn19Participantlol thanks, i know that already 🙂 just don’t tell my mom you said that – i think her next mission is gonna be to cut it down…
oh and SJS: “we” is my anav way of saying “i.” leant it from hashem from “na’ase adam”
lol jk – i dunno it’s just the way i talk sometimes. i’m a teacher so instead of saying “i taught,” i tend to say “we learnt.” just a habit. there’s only one of me!
brooklyn19Participanti’m not afraid to answer. i just feel like it’ll be a waste of my time.
and i used to be WAY more grey. till i realized that my open-mindedness stemmed from idiocy. and i honestly try to think. there’s a limit as to what a thinking person can accept from others and i make my own limits. yours might be different – good for you. but i’m not about to argue with someone who opposes my opinion before i open my mouth. what’s the point?
December 11, 2008 4:37 pm at 4:37 pm in reply to: Television: A Cry of Anguish and Appeal to Our Jewish Brethren 📺 #1192752brooklyn19Participantkitzur: where’d you get that gematria from? i’m not a big fan of gematrias, but that one’s cute. reminds me of R’ Frand’s “pere adam” class about yishmael.
December 11, 2008 4:19 pm at 4:19 pm in reply to: What To Do While Waiting For The Coffee Room To Be Updated #1192574brooklyn19Participantjoseph: you have internet access at THE MIR?! scandal!
the chavrusahs: you’re so right – visit the other thread about the “yetzer hara of wasting time – online – internet addiction?”
ps- why the extra “h” at the end?
December 11, 2008 4:09 pm at 4:09 pm in reply to: Looking For a Mamar Chazal About Cosmetics #635048brooklyn19Participantsqueak: you’re 100% right.
at the same time, my self image is more than perfect. (i’m probably prettier than three quarters of the girls out there… i kinda have a tremendous ego ;-)…) my skin is great, B”H but i still love wearing makeup. it just enhances. without a little bit of eye-liner i’m not a person!
then again, i see girls that wear close to nothing on their faces and look great. sometimes it’s just a different look.
brooklyn19Participantdon’t diss shweky! it’s NEVER pointless to buy anything he sings on! 😉
brooklyn19Participantjoseph i’m assuming you mean ellectoral college votes
1. arizona has 10 and california and florida have much more. i believe Louisiana has the least. not sure how many, though.
2. definately alaska. have you heard Palin?!?!
brooklyn19Participant1) Whiskey rebellion was an uprising due to high taxes. It taught the founding fathers that a stronger central government was needed.
brooklyn19Participantyeah it is in lakewood. yeshivish, i think. i know him. (don’t ask how!)
btw his daughter’s getting married tonight.
brooklyn19Participantno way! we’re looking for a REAL yeshiva guy! (don’t tell him i’m on the internet!) but my brother’s a lawyer. (he was the top guy in his grade before he messed up, but we’ll leave that for a different thread) he said the frum(ish) jewish guys have it a bit easier.
anyway, i perk up when i hear something that has the connotation “brains”
brooklyn19Participantwell they say a gemara head has an easier time in law school. i’m looking for the gemara guy.
ps- i don’t chase after ANYBODY!
pps- law is much cooler than medical, in my opinion.
December 10, 2008 9:22 pm at 9:22 pm in reply to: Looking For a Mamar Chazal About Cosmetics #635040brooklyn19Participantugh. then i think i WANT to make sure it’s kosher! and sounds like you got that from a snapple cap.
brooklyn19Participantwhat about chevron and rav zvi kaplan? i thought they were up there too.
brooklyn19Participantyeah but you’re still not sure it’s me. so what’s the diff if i deny it or not? and anyway, if i said it wasn’t me it wouldn’t change anything, would it?
brooklyn19Participantis there anything wrong with saying “we don’t do that”
brooklyn19Participantyeah well those who don’t are missing out big time! how else do people remind themselves about middos? thank God for neices and nephews!
brooklyn19Participantgaw-jis
i think that’s how i say it!
brooklyn19Participantcool this’ll come in handy for shidduchim 🙂
(now i sound desperate! i’m really not – i just always have to call my brothers and ask about yeshivas. now i could date with some privacy!)
brooklyn19Participantif you wanna think they’d hire a 19-year-old bais yaakov girl from brooklyn, go ahead. not so likely, though.
ps- you a lawyer?!
December 10, 2008 8:26 pm at 8:26 pm in reply to: Looking For a Mamar Chazal About Cosmetics #635036brooklyn19Participantreally? i heard otherwise but i’m not 100% sure. could be you’re right.
December 10, 2008 7:56 pm at 7:56 pm in reply to: Looking For a Mamar Chazal About Cosmetics #635032brooklyn19Participantyoshi – lip gloss with a taste doesn’t have a hechsher. just so you know.
brooklyn19Participantintell:
it’s not the standard in the home that cuases kids to go off. it’s the atmosphere. it’s the approach. and i’m not blaming parents or teachers or kids. every situation is different.
BUT, attitude can help in a sense that at least the kid won’t be turned off or bitter. you never know – he might turn around one day.
brooklyn19Participantwell then i guess you gotta rehearse both and give them both. hopefully the first one won’t be too hard for you.
brooklyn19Participantme a moderator? that’s a cute one!
and thanks, but no thanks. like i said, i have a life.
brooklyn19Participantgorgeous
December 10, 2008 7:38 pm at 7:38 pm in reply to: Looking For a Mamar Chazal About Cosmetics #635029brooklyn19Participantwhen the jews returned to build the second bais hamikdash, one of the things ezra made sure was that the makeup/perfume merchants would visit the far out towns. seems like it was necessary – i’m sure ezra had a lot of things on his mind but look what one of his first takanos was!
btw Mrs. B – the pasuk in yeshaya rebukes bnos tzion for their blue eye makeup and perfume. so apparently those two are not for wearing outside.
brooklyn19ParticipantOUCH. WHAT HUMOR.
brooklyn19Participantlol where are you from? (out-of-town, i presume!) hawaii? arizona? kentucky? lol
brooklyn19Participantdon’t worry, i’m not gonna take the bait from either one of SJS’s last two posts.
and i am pretty open-minded. but there’s a limit – i’d like to keep my brains.
