you should be bothered if a kid is confused about how the world came about. (not that i believe he’s sincere. nevertheless, some food for thought.) believing many aspects of evolution is pure apikorsus. yes, there are some aspects that can be and may be true. (survival of the fittest and i forgot whatever else they’re called…) but even when you believe those can be true, we still need to know that Hashem runs the world, regardless of what “nature” is.

(first of all – thank for clarifying. i hope that’s not how people view our Gedolim.) and yes, you can ask your Rav (like i ask mine) when you have a question. if he has a question he goes to another Rav, right? so why are we- regular people- above that? but if your Rav disagrees with the Gedolay hador – there’s nothing wrong with asking him about that! (obviously in a respectful way.)
and btw it’s not muttar to go against a p’sak from our Rabbonim. so yeah, there may be just a few sins involved.

SJS – use your common sense. i don’t call up my rav before every time i eat something to ask him the bracha either. if something’s a fact and you’ve learned the halacha, great. but most of what we’ve been talking about are not black and white. and there’s a whole lot of gray in life (and i’m only 17 and i know that already…)
well yeah i knew the part about the girls dressing up and going out to dance while the guys checked them out. i was hoping for a little more insight. (didn’t know about the dress from someone poorer, though. must’ve been absent that day:})

mind you, i have more than one rav that i consult. some for personal issues and yes, i go to a posek (and great Gadol)for halachic matters. don’t EVER hold back on consulting a rav. any rav, small-time or not will agree with me on this.
sounds like you’re idea of Gedolim is to milk them for all they’ve got and throw out their wisdom.

that’s what they’re there for. they devote a large part of their time to the tzibbur. i guarantee if you would repeat that to an adam gadol he would not agree with you.
i once called my rav up late at night do discuss something that was bothering me. i started out feeling guilty and i said “you’re busy?’ he answered “if i am that’s my problem. you don’t have to worry about that – if i ever can’t speak i’ll let you know.”
and every school and organization should have a rav that they can consult on a regular basis. we’re jewish people and we live by the torah and we need gedolim to guide us. as brilliant as we may be, we can not rely on our own thoughts and ideas.
ever tried to count how many different blogs there are? every person has their own story to tell. there are basic ideas that include most situations. but every person is unique and had their own way of thinking. there are no rules.

animosity was building up for a while before the state was independent. before the 20th century.
I really don’t. I always dress nicely and make sure to look good. and i don’t think i’m GORGEOUS, just normal pretty. (lol ok maybe a drop prettier than average:}) but i get so turned off when i come home from a boring date and get a report back that the guy “had a great time.” that means one of two things: either he’s dull, or he wasn’t concentrating on the conversation.
and mind you, not every guy looks like Cary Grant. It works backwards too. (maybe not as bad)
upper elementary. the FAVORITE in the entire school. (the #1 teacher left this year, so i think i took her place.) i think it’s cuz i’m a kid – and a wild one so i’m sorta one step ahead in the classroom. it’s kinda fun.
i’ll think about it. but you’d be on the right track.

goofy – most guys are the other way around. the first two dates all they notice is your looks. and that’s when i get nauseous and say no. i mean, i make sure to look good. but sometimes i wanna dress down and cut out some makeup. maybe the guy will see past my looks.

joseph – i gotta agree with 646 on that last post. not that anyone’s going to actually do things that way, but it is probably idealistic.
oh and 646 – i didn’t agree with the entire post. only the part about looking into what makes kids go off. (you can probably spend every second of your life on that one and not even come close to the answer. there is no answer.) you know how i feel about cell phones. just wanted to clarify that.
btw just as a side point –
when you’re writing a paper (if you have a decent professor) it’s usually better to take the less popular side of an argument. that is, as long as you has sufficient information to properly back up your stand. i think it’s because professors get bored of marking papers and love to read something a little different.
one thing: if you’re in a frum college and your professor is a frum “in a box” person (which i doubt if it’s an english class) then don’t dare!

Do we have to have the gedolim’s permission before any public event (or private?) is held?
but i still think that a chinese auction, a BY play, and a concert should be approved. and BEFORE they become public knowledge. making a birthday party for your five year-old kid should not be a problem. if you wanna invite exotic dancers, i’d suggest you clear it with you LOR. i can’t believe i’m telling someone much older than i am to USE THEIR COMMON SENSE! come on!
