    Same gender I’d introduce myself.

Opposite gender, I’d post the “shout out” in the CR.

    BTW – Great answer, Shreck!

Most likely, the new rule is being put in place, so they no longer need to accept underqualified (but well connected) new recruits to the teachers circle.

Either that, or its going to be used as a way to ax the dead weight they already but don’t have the guts to fire on their own.

Regardless, don’t sweat it. If you have the desire to get a degree, it can only help you. If you don’t want to / can’t get one (and the school really pulls the trigger), if you’re good at / enjoy what you do, there will always be a place for you in education. Somewhere, someplace and at a rate that might (pleasantly) surprise you

The introvert / extrovert toss up would depend on what your own personality is.

In my case, and A++ super-duper achiver, dance-in-the-middle-of-the-cirle type, would be meaningless to me (in fact, quite possibly a deal breaker), as I’m as B- as you can get.

As far as a male being overly preocuppied with his / his spouse looks, I’d venture a guess and say, its a match made in heaven, and they deserve each other (and lucky for the rest of us, that they’re out of circulation, so the rest of us are safe)

As for the prime middah? That would need to be one who makes every effort to do nice things for their partner. It could be a minor as buying the variety of shampoo the other likes, to as monumental as making a rack of lamb on a tuesday, just because.

I cannot imagine who would have a problem with this. Who more than yourself knows what you want in a shidduch (assuming you know what you want).

True, for certain communities / labels, it can be a bit problematic to just approach the person directly, but to ask a family member or neighbor to approach someone on your behalf, I see nothing wrong with that.

In fact, that’s how I met my wife.

Still, that will not tell you what you want to know. If I tell you, “its a yeshivish place” that’s based on my assesment of what yeshivish means.

Same goes for all labels / descriptions. No one takes a job /bungalow without knowing someone by name. Even if the someone is the owner or head counsler, or someone that was there a few years ago.

    A picture is worth a 1000 words.

    “what was wrong with leggings”

From a technical standpoint (as long as the skirt keeps the knees are covered), nothing. Its no more attention grabbing than tights.

But from a statement standpoint, it screams at the top of its lungs. Kinda like the way a hemline can be long, and it can be so long that it drags on the pavement. The message is intentional, and comes thru loud and clear.

Not pointing fingers at anyone; just sayin’…(v’hamavin, yovin)

This was started (and deleted) last week, so let me try a different approach:

What you (or the person who for whom you are asking for) need to get a hold of, is the 2010 photo album of the day camp, and if possbible, of a colony family itself.

That will tell you what you can expect when you arrive on the scene.

If you feel comfortable with what you see, then the place is for you.

moshav band is not exactly for a BEN/ bas yisroel

Point well taken. BUT, I must tell you, I heard them make havdalah last year in Kutchers, and let me tell you, we could all take a lesson from them when it comes to saying tefilos with your heart and soul.

No, I don’t know what’s “in” their heart and soul. But the sounds?

    Pure as gold.

And black hattitude? Some of the best lyrics I’ve ever heard. And I’ll go one step further with hattiude; There is not ONE WORD / ONE IDEA they say that the CR would have a problem with.

Not one. I’ve listened to the songs countless times, and they speak to a teen in a way they can relate to. Perhaps not the tune we all agree on, but the message?

    Unanimous.

My take? I have less of a problem with people going off to Club Med for a week, than I do when the week is billed as a “glatt kosher / daily daf” event.

Wanna party? Be my guest. But don’t tell me this is yiddishkeit at its very best.

And lest you think its only the “pesach venues” I’m at odds with, the other major “orthodox jewery” hotel event (not naming names) could stand to take a good look in the yiddishkeit mirror. And they have some of today’s most “yeshivish” names on the dias.

And despite that, what goes on (in terms of brazen gashmius) at this event is far from what is being drummed into us from the speakers podium.

Been there, done that, not going back anytime soon. Too honest with myself to do otherwise.

“We” sure do comemorate the war years. Just not with perfomances or poetry readings.

Unless you call Kinos l’Tisha b’Av poetry, but I think that sells it way short of its true meaning.

Same goes for Yom Atzmaut. We make note of the land of EY each and every day. But IMHO, a blue and white flag is not mandatory

    ZK –

We are shocked; just not surprised. To quote someone famous: Absolute power corrupts absolutley. And the folks that can fork over $$$ to go to a hotel, feel pretty powerful

    Eclipse –

Your point is well noted (and your R and R was much deserved!)

Were the hotel you were staying at geared towards people who need the time away for reasons that cannot be spelled out here in the CR, I am fairly certain the tone would have been much more along the lines of what the majority of of CR folks could handle. But once you add the A++ crowd to the mix, they run the tone and show.

As for the mashgiach, his domain is the kitchen, the eruv, the shabbos locks, ect. The “tone” of the hotel is not one which he can have much control over.

But look at the bright side: the fact that you took notice of the laxity, shows that you’re still on the upswing!

I am honored and humbled by:

    * when chosen, by who did the choosing

    * when listed in a group, who my company was

As far as who I like best, that’s a tough call. Every poster (even the infrequent ones) who takes the time to put together a well written post gets my attention.

As far as who’s the funniest / most outrageous? Well, I can only base my votes on the ones the Mods let thru, so its not really a fair vote on that category. After all, who knows what true classics are lying on the floor of the YWN cutting room?

Many times, you state an opinion on a topic (say, politics, or chinuch) where you form your opinion based on the facts and conditions as you see and understand them.

On the same topic, someone else may see the same situation, but apply different facts (or interpreted the same ones in a different light) and arrive at a completely different opinion.

    HIE –

There are 80,000 Jews in BP? Mind telling me where they daven? Shop? Send the kids to yeshiva?

Last I checked Bobov has about 1000 people in the big room (so that’s 8,000) Satmar another 500 or so (another 4,000) and beyond the 2 powerhouses, most shuls are 100 or so. And lots of them are 30-40 people, so the numbers don’t add up as quick as you think. So my guesstimate of 35 thou, is probably close.

But 300,000? That would mean you need 8-10 neighborhoods as big as BP. Lets count: Flatbush, Willy, Monsey, Monroe. Thats about it. So unless you know of 3 or 4 neighborhoods that I don’t know of, it looks like we’re still the minority.

Still, rare things are of greater value, so I’d rather be from the few AND the proud!

1 mil sounds like a stretch. BP has perhaps 4,000 head of household, so at best (figure 8 people per house) you’re looking at 30-35 thousand. Times that by 5-6 really big communities (Lakewood, Monroe, Willy, Flatbush, ect) and you’re still at around 200,000.

A million? In NY alone? In fact, probably not even in the entire USA.

Dating is not the time to be on a budget. (that will come later, AFTER you’rr married).

    A fair budget:

    1st date = $50

    2nd date = $50

3rd date = afternoon in the park / indoor mall, so the $ should be minimal

4th date = this needs to be in the $100 range, as now you’re really serious

And if you can’t swing a budget like this, how will you pay $800-900 for rent?
