bptParticipant
“bpt said that by Feb he thinks ill be walking down to the chuppa. well he sure was right! “
From a prediction like that, I’m suddenly a baal moifes? That’s like predicting the sun will rise in the East.
If you are in the arena, and have your priorities well defined, finding your zivug is a sure thing. Its just a question of when.
Some find it in less time, others in a bit more. But as long as you are optimistic, you are still in the game.
If there is any thing I can take credit for, its being (as much as possible) always optimistic. And I try to have this attitude spill over to others.
Each of us (in some form or another) have something unique to offer, and that thing (whatever it may be) is what will make us the right fit for the right zivug. All we need to do is be ourselves.
Now, for my next prediction…
bptParticipantWhat I do is set my watch a few minutes slow, so that way, everyone is ready and waiting when I make my way to the podium
bptParticipantKnow watt? (spelled wrong, just to irritate you)
Since you are missing the point I am trying to make, I’ll just leave it this, and move on to the next topic:
What’s at stake here (both the Khan and Knox cases) is the permissivness (spell check?) the West has for crimes of this nature.
bptParticipantNor will you. They are so secretive, one member does not know the other, and each is frummer than the next (or so he thinks)
Oh, wait, thats everyone in BP.
Sorry. Maybe you meant the band Lev Tahor?
bptParticipant#1 – The truth is consitant. Lies and coverups leave room for error.
#2 – You are right, there are not a million murders a year. But there are abuses (of the sort I cannot specify here) that are a product of this sort of “who cares” attitude.
And for this, the Strauss Khans and A. Knoxs of the world walk free
bptParticipantNo, Kp is right for being miffed. A “well wish” that is not sincere, is almost as bad as being told, “sorry I could’nt make your simcha” when you had zero intention of going anyways.
Say it like you mean it or don’t say it.
bptParticipant“someone said you should start giving brachos.”
Are you kidding? No, which thread? I sure hope it was shidduch / engagement related.
I am still hoping to see results from the “gantz Tehilim between Megilos lainings” that I did this past Purim. Could this be one of them?
bptParticipantYes, I saw this.
No, I will not comment (although I do have one)
If I didn’t know better, I’d say I’m being baited by the Mods
(How’s that for a conspriacy plot, Health.)
bptParticipant“besides your conspiracy theories?”
Really, Health; if I want to spin a story, I could do much better than this.
Not to pursue this story anymore than it already has been (after all , this is YWN), take the time to read what Wikipedia has on the story.
Was the DNA non-conclusive? Yes
Are there inconsistancies with the alibis of the accused? Yes
The sad truth is, the West “wants” to find Amanda and co innocent, so they did.
Because to find them guilty is to indict them of behavior that the West thrives on.
bptParticipant” yes I did fast.”
So I guess that rules out you being Chassidish.
I happen to agree with you, and am against the notion that women cannot fast for one day without doing bodily harm.
If they can diet and / or spend a day hiking thru a mall (at least a 5 mile trek, over a 6 hour day), they can fast.
bptParticipant“Knox was accused of something far far worse than Strauss-Khan. “
But the boys in Japan were accused of something far less yet. And they got slammed (as did S. Rubashkin)
” What proof do you have she is guilty? “
Read the story and draw your own conclusion. I did, and I did. Face it, in the Western legal culture, you can literaly get away with murder (and other serious crimes against humanity, like the one Strauss commited).
Its the culture of permissivness that trickles down into the way everything is viewed.
Want an example? Look at the 40ft bilboards that adorn some of our most traveled highways and river crossings, and you’ll see, the West has a great tolerance for this sort of crime.
bptParticipantAnd did you fast?
bptParticipantI’m not a sports fan, but if I remember correctly from my HS days, SI has less to do with the understanding of the sport, and more to do with the glorification of the players.
No comment on the Feb issue
bptParticipantNo comparison at all.
The boys in Japan were completely duped, despite getting caught redhanded.
Amanda and her co-conspirator, knew exactly what they were doing.
They got off for the same reason Strauss-Khan got off.
This sort of crime is tolerated in the West.
But harm a furry animal? Oooh, then you are in trouble.
bptParticipantThis is very accepted (that girls / women in the Chassidisheh circles do not fast) based on the folloing premise:
They are either:
too young to fast (and it might hurt their future productivity)
too old to fast
they are expecting / nurshing (or soon will be)
Everyone (according to the chassidisheh mindset) falls into one of the above 3 categories, so aside from Tisha B’Av, Yom Kippur (and in some households, Taanis Ester), women do not fast
bptParticipantSend flowers? Why, have you done something wrong?
Play it safe, and ask your mom / sister to send it.
Sending flowers will only raise suspicion of you having done something wrong.
Besides, if you send flowers now “just because”, what will you use to get out of the doghouse?
(And yes, no matter how great a guy you are, you WILL spend time in the doghouse. We all do.)
bptParticipantSame as is meant when someone says about the bocher, “he’s a great guy”
Tells you all you need to know.. if your idea of great is the same as my idea of great
bptParticipantFriday night = bottom one
Shabbos day = top one
Shalesh Seudos = both
Based on the format of shemona esrei. When Yom tov is a weekday, its random
bptParticipantOk, serious answer now.
I really feel that, for the most part (meaning 98% of the time) none of the steady posters (and I would consider myself one of those) are mean or insulting.
Sarcastic, wise-cracky in a funny way? Yes, that’s just the way I am.
Sarcastic, in a sneering, demeaning way, I don’t see any of us being that way. And if we sometimes come off too strong, we get “reminded” by the Mods or members to tone it down.
As far as taking a VERY strong stand on one issue or another, speaking for myself, if the topic is one that really has no place in a “yeshiva” based forum, then I see no reason to pull any punches. Since you picked the subject of music, I’ll go with that one.
Were the question, “is Mozart’s music good or bad?” that should generate a civil discussion, with each person advancing his or her opinion.
Were the question,”is Lady Gaga’s music good or bad?” that should generate a barrage of nasty, biting posts.
So we play nice, but we play hardball too. Depends what, who and when.
bptParticipantA while back, someone suggested opening a “cocoa room” where only nice things could be posted.
Maybe we should consider implementing the idea. Then we could all sit in a circle with Morah Mod, sing Barney songs, and make smiley face stickers for one another.
Oh, and I’ll bring a back-up snack (carrot sticks, natch) in case someone forgets to bring one
bptParticipantI saw a vid clip, where someone was asking people to apply for something, and one of the questions was “how much do you weigh”, but what the person did not know was a) it was being filmed and b) the rubber mat in front of the booth (where the apps were being filled out) was really a scale pad.
Visible to the studio audience was the vid feed with sound (so they can hear what weight is being said) and a display showing the actual weight.
Its amazing how few people know their true weight.
bptParticipantPlay it safe, and have it in mind when you say the bracha “malbish arumim” in the morning.
Oh, not the pashmina kind of wrap? Sorry, my bad.
bptParticipantIsnt that what divers use after coming to the surface? (oh no, thats decompression.. my bad)
Warning: compression stockings are just a small step away from Palm 70s. Proceed with caution!
bptParticipantAnd I still think my nail polish wisecrack that you Mods squashed is one of the funniest ones I’ve come up with.
C’mon, admit it.. as you were hitting the EDIT button, you were laughing. You had to squash it, but it was still funny.
Still, the CR is still the CR, so we move along!
bptParticipant“as a kappara”
That would be warranted, had I managed to get a few choice posts slipped by when the mods were busy harassing other members. But for the 2010-2011 season, I’ve been a (relatively) good CR poster, so I think a public admission of being at fault will be a fair pennance.
Besides, the bears are still rubbing their tummys from all the SuperSnacks and Bamba they ate over the Summer. That, and I’m a bit on the lean side right now, post Summer. I’d make a sorry snack.
bptParticipant” that’s partly why I feel like I don’t fit in here”
You have a point, if you take it (or mean it) personally.
Hashing out differences, arguing fine points, its all part of the fun (and kept clean, due to the mods and members). And when its all said and done, we come away with a better idea of what the topic is all about, and a better understanding of our position. There’s a famous quote: “Once you know the why, you can address the what”
Think of it as excercising. 99% of us will never need to run a marathon, or fight off a hoard of maurading Huns.
But its nice to know you can, if you need to.
bptParticipantI think resumes in general, and photos in particular are a bad idea, because if the boys saw how much of a disadvantage they are at, when compared to the girls, they would never have the guts to go on a date.
Think of it like the way the Shechina conceals its true essence, to enable us the ability to function in its presense. (If I’m not mistaken, this is also the reason women are charged with a greater degree of tznius than are men. They wield more power, hold more potential, and its not to be taken lightly)
No, better the boys they think they have the upper hand. At least this way, the shidduch has a chance of getting off the ground.
bptParticipantI know of one member that I insulted, and even though I apologized, its only right that I ask mechila.
So please forgive me.
And if there are others who I did wrong (but am unaware of it) please consider this as a mechila request as well
I think as a kappara, you should tie yourself to a tree in the forest for the bears.
bptParticipantCould we change directions for a moment?
Ladies, are there any “husband” jobs that you do?
(And don’t say “everything”.)
bptParticipant“Rolling filberts at shul on yontif afternoons”
14th Ave, in front of BYOB, (but not in the 80s)
Was this still the rage in the 80s in Queens? In BP, it fizzled out in the late 70s.
bptParticipantI think you only feel this way because you may have taken a few on the chin (or gotten EDITED, not sure which is worse).
Stick around a bit longer; corner one of us with a slam-dunk argument, and you’ll see why we flock to this place like bees to flowers.
If you still don’t feel like you’re in tight, drink some more kool-aid. That’ll have you beleivin’ in no time!
bptParticipantFridays in the 18th ave park!
bptParticipantSure we do laundry.. July and August
bptParticipantI got it too!
September 19, 2011 7:31 pm at 7:31 pm in reply to: Anyone on 13th Avenue giving out free calendars now? #810930bptParticipantLeon Beer (the eyeglass store) on 18th ave / Dahill Rd has them
bptParticipantIn BP, its not so much a question of how far, its how many shuls do you pass getting to your shul.
But I have walked as far as 3+ miles to get to a Shabbos kiddush, wearing talis and hat, in the blistering heat (oh, what we’ll do for a git shtickle keegel!)
bptParticipant” Because we’re WORTH it!!!!!! “
ANOTHER great line. Wow, the women are on a roll.
bptParticipant” <—- wiping drink from screen “
Gem of a line, Channah. Wish I’d thought of it myself.
And Yes, Squeak, depending on the subject matter (like the ones you are reffering to) I do take myself seriously. Very seriously.
Care to poke holes in my theories? I’d love to argue it out.
bptParticipantSimple. The reason the women get the good stuff is so they can feed the 100+ cousins, sibs and neices / nephews (ages 10 and under)that cannot wait till 9:30 to eat supper.
That, and all the guys care about is the liquid refreshments anyways.
Salads and fancy cakes only put your tie / suit at risk for a major mess. Although, a sushi platter would be nice!
bptParticipant“Maaseh Bereishis happened in Boro Park in the 20th century”
Maybe not in the literal sense, but as someone who was in Bklyn in the 70s, I can tell you that Yiddishkeit took a quantum leap in the 70s-80s, and while it may not have been as landscape-altering as maaseh berashis, it was surely something to behold
“the Rebbe’s previous gabbai is the source of his gadlus.”
In today’s arena? Not counting a few notable exceptions (like the Skuleneh Rebbe, Shlita, for example) this statement is more true than you can imagine.
Squeak, spend a little less time in the CR and a bit more time in the “Kaaveh Shteeb” and you’ll see what I mean
bptParticipant” what’s ur wager “
It would not be fair of me to place a bet now, as I’ve been proven right by Mr. Funny Guy himself (living in Bklyn until 6 counts!)
Too bad I lost on your sister / BIL. Can’t win ’em all ;(
bptParticipant“designer ties” = in BMG? Maybe as a student, but as staff?
” a good role model ‘ = For torah ‘umadah, perhaps (or Tuna Bagels). But for BMG?
Me thinks not.
bptParticipantOh, and before I forget, Feif – Are you fully recovered from your operation?
bptParticipant“just tell them you’re also chassidish”
No, that will cause other problems. Then, I’ll need to start making the Parlor meetings in Willy and Monroe instead of Wesley Hills and Lawrence, have Mezamrim and Meal Mart instead of <enter name of top entertainer> and <enter name of top caterer>
My guys will be thrilled, but the BMG alums (who look forward to the events) will be like fish out of water.
Looks like my BMG future will need to be limitied to my kids attendance.
Oh well. Next idea, coming right up!
bptParticipant“Someone with that sense of humor has to be OOT”
I’m willing to bet his roots are from Bklyn. Most people from NJ are.
bptParticipant” he’s not doing that trust me “
Oh no? You think he’s telling people he got his new watch from a vending machine?
I think, short of carrying a photo in his wallet, he is quite proud about being engaged. And so should you. Just because it did’nt take 5 years, is no reason to take it for granted.
Dont.
bptParticipant“Change your last name to Kotler, and apply for a job.”
Now that I think about it, if I take the job, it will mean wearing a tie 24/7 and being hounded by the press corps.
Not for me.
Feif – the more I consult with you, the more I realize I have no reason to want to / need to change any detail in my (for the most part) wonderful way of life.
For this, I needed to consult with a relationship adivsor?
bptParticipant” live in Passaic “
Whaat?! He’s not from Brooklyn? You’ve gotta be kidding.
bptParticipantI agree. Much of his material is a mirror image of what goes on at my place.
bptParticipantAnd for all those shorties out there; please consider wearing a bell, so us 6″5+ folks don’t step on you by accident
