bombmaniacParticipant
a day before my grandfather died, i fell down a few stairs and hurt my back quite badly. so the next day i stayed home…and that day my grandfather died. i grew up with my grandparents so for me it was like losing a father. i was sick the for 2 weeks…i couldnt keep food down. my idiot of an assistant principal came with my principal to me menachem the aveilim that were sitting shiva. as theyre talking, the subject of my injury came up, one of my relatives commented that in a way, me falling and injuring myself was a good thing, because as terrible as the tragedy as my grandfather’s death was…it would have been even worse if i had to hear it over the phone in school. to which the assistant principal said…”oh, he fell down only a few steps?!? he made it seem like 2 flights…thats not such a big deal” we, as a whole got up, and asked him to leave. some people just dont know how to control their mouths!
bombmaniacParticipantso..i suppose going going over to a fat guy with a “guess” sweatshirt on, and saying “thyroid problem” would qualify as mean…
bombmaniacParticipanti dont know about saved…but i do know that the very worst days of my life were the days i forgot to wear tzitzis…and in a side note, ive had terrible days on days i realized i hadnt said the shir shel yom
bombmaniacParticipant^yeah that…thats how i had it in high school. i had a total of around 7 texts per day…which i only used if i NEEDED like for getting an address or a phone number, or texting a family member
bombmaniacParticipantHEY!!! HEY!!! for all of your information, that bombmaniac up there is NOT me look closely at the spelling. the correct spelling of bombmaniac is B-O-M-B-M-A-N-I-A-C
bombmaniacParticipantoomis…how did people survive without flush toilets…
bombmaniacParticipantheres an idea…STOP CLOSING EVERY TOPIC!!!
bombmaniacParticipantgranted…and i answered the texting question if you could get past that first line…
bombmaniacParticipantshould a bochur in 11th grade have a cellphone…as for texting the answer is no. there is absolutely no need for it. however if you feel compelled to give that student texting, give him a max of 200 a month. that way he wont be on it all day
January 22, 2010 4:21 pm at 4:21 pm in reply to: Yeshiva Principal Enforcing No-Cell-Phone Policy; Proper Or Not? #673583bombmaniacParticipantno no no you missed my point. i didnt say it should be done in public…i simply said it shouldnt be done in private. a principle may run into problems of the student or other students starting innuendo about him if he does the checks in his office with no one around to see. even if there is another adult present. it should be done in the general office, or in any other place like that to avoid any possible innuendo. if you have a full office staff present, accusations and claims just won’t start.
bombmaniacParticipantyank…THATS the one i was thinking of 😀
bombmaniacParticipantlol as i hear it told…origionally micosoft was working on what we now know as windows 7 to be released after XP and vista as we know it would have been released a few years later with more advances. however, microsoft hit a snag with what we know as 7 and therefore reverted back to the vista “longhorn” project which they released before it was completely ready because they had to release something…
bombmaniacParticipantno theyre only in hebrew…you may be able to get google to translate it but it wont do a good job…try the boro park stores thats where i got my copy
bombmaniacParticipantyour arm…your leg…and your firstborn son!
bombmaniacParticipantplease dont mention the V word around me…im still traumatized by the 2 days i had to use vista…it was awful!
bombmaniacParticipantthere are a couple of frum made exercise check it up on galpaz
bombmaniacParticipantgranted linux does have more capabilities in the department of parallel processing , and like i said the graphics companies make all of their high end graphics linux compatible. however, open source programming just does not match up to the powerful tools that are available for mac and windows currently. halevai in the future, but not yet, and therefore for any serious graphic design, windows or mac (for 10x the price) is the way to go.
as for mac. yes. an OS based upon a single kernel, with the rest of it essentially being “add ons” does make for a more secure OS. however like i have said, mac is impractical for other reasons. yes mac was made to be user friendly for even the most novice user (except for those of you that have gotten used to the right click in windows…then mac is just downright frustrating…lol) however it lacks the power of windows.
as for your hackintosh…i am truly jealous. i have been trying to make a hackintosh out of that desktop i mentioned above, and each time it stops at the frowny face telling me to restart. i have a processor that (obviously) supports sse3, i have looked up my chipset and it is indeed compatible with mac…what am i doing wrong? some tips would be appreciated. currently i am A+ certified, but that only covers windows. i would like to learn mac…but i need a computer to practice on. if you could help me with that please post here.
bombmaniacParticipantlinux isnt good for anything having to do with graphics. not really anyway. while there ARE drivers written for linux, linux isnt made for that.
as far as mac goes, mac is fine for your average user, but for anyone looking for a bit more in terms of power, windows is the way to go. the mac OS itself is built to be user friendly not necessarily powerful. plus, in order to get any kine of power out of a mac, you have to spend a ton of $$$ whereas you can get yourself a powerhouse for much less if you use windows (and granted yes linux).
for example, my computer (which i built myself) is running a core 2 quad overclocked to 2.73 ghz, 4 gb of ddr2 ram, and a geforce 8800 gt video card with (at least initially) 500 gb hard drive space. that cost me $850. if you wanted that in mac? that would cost you around $3000 (now less but at the time it was $3000)
bombmaniacParticipanthaifagirl…NOTHING works well with vista, and anuran…seriously i can understand your desire to stick it to the man with “open-source”…but win7 is the way to go!
January 17, 2010 1:14 am at 1:14 am in reply to: Yeshiva Principal Enforcing No-Cell-Phone Policy; Proper Or Not? #673579bombmaniacParticipantits unfortunate that one might reach such conclusions, but i didnt even think of what you said. it is a good point. if they do it in front of the students they will all be less inclined to break the rules.
January 15, 2010 8:44 pm at 8:44 pm in reply to: Yeshiva Principal Enforcing No-Cell-Phone Policy; Proper Or Not? #673577bombmaniacParticipantapparently you have mastered the art of abbreviated speak far netter than i have 😀 honestly, the way i see this, is that people are opposed to texting. that is the bottom line. texting. so what people propose as a solution, is disabling the text function on the phone, but as we all know, that never works, because texting does have it’s practical uses, and eventually we end up removing that restriction. therefore here is a solution that i found to be quite effective, and it is what i do currently and did in high school. basically, you LIMIT the texts on the phone. personally i am limited to 200 texts a month, and if i went over i would have to pay for it out of my own $$$. 200 texts a month comes out to approximately 7 texts a day give or take. problem solved. everywhere. school, home, wherever. if you can only send 7 texts a day, and to text more than the allotted amount would result in monetary loss, then a i guarantee you they will only text when necessary. nothing is more important to a high school kid than his $$$ 😀 this solves the problem on the parents end. it does nothing to solve the problem from the principal’s end…but it’s a start. it is a good start though…because many parents are at odds with principals on this one, and this is a kind of compromise.
(mods feel free to edit this last part if you feel it is inappropriate, i just feel it needs airing)
one last thing oomis…personally i think it would be preferable if the search is done in front of other students, because in today’s day and age, (and i am not saying this to be perverted) a kid and 2 adults in an office alone can lead to problems (ie. lawsuits, accusations…etc) i know of a rebbi who was fired for having a kid sit on his lap…in fact we are told in summer camp that if any camper sits on the lap of any staff member that staff member must get up. is there anything wrong with sitting on a rebbi’s lap? no. but in today’s world we must be ever so careful about maaras ayin.
January 15, 2010 3:32 pm at 3:32 pm in reply to: Yeshiva Principal Enforcing No-Cell-Phone Policy; Proper Or Not? #673575bombmaniacParticipantas a student, you wouldnt object to such treatment?
January 15, 2010 3:11 pm at 3:11 pm in reply to: Yeshiva Principal Enforcing No-Cell-Phone Policy; Proper Or Not? #673573bombmaniacParticipantoomis…this topic is about phones in yeshiva, so when i say against phones, i mean phones in yeshiva.
as for “But if it is already being done, then clearly there was a reason for it”
that’s not necessarily true
“The fact is, if they have nothing to hide, they will not have a problem”
would you have a problem with a cop searching your house for drugs just because he could? i am sure you have nothing to hide…
“They can only be used for nefarious purposes during class”
love the use of “nefarious”
“Kids today believe they will DIE without their text messaging”
don’t i know it…i had a kid in my class who sent something like 16,000 (yes, thousand) texts per month!
bombmaniacParticipantno i wasnt judging, i was just asking. i understand the position perfectly.
bombmaniacParticipantyes, but cellphones and computers arent mishegass…it is not a mishegass to work on a computer…or call people with a cellphone…it IS mishegass to ask for a handwriting sample to find out if the prospective shidduch is really an axe murderer…
January 15, 2010 5:11 am at 5:11 am in reply to: Yeshiva Principal Enforcing No-Cell-Phone Policy; Proper Or Not? #673571bombmaniacParticipantoomis…quick question just to get a perspective…i understand that you are against cellphones…and that is not the point. are you or are you not against random pocket searches?
bombmaniacParticipantexactly what is a facher…and suppose he asked people in the community for their opinion…would you be opposed to that? no…so whats the difference? if he finds a yeshiva that he likes because of our posts then wouldn’t that be great? using the internet to help a fellow jew…what could be better?
bombmaniacParticipantsuppose they really do have a report due the next day…do they fail?
bombmaniacParticipantand how did marriages happen back before this ridiculous practice…?
bombmaniacParticipanthmmm…i can try and get the official COR and/or OU guidelines…
bombmaniacParticipanteer kenst nitzin “google translate”
bombmaniacParticipantum…mod…it truly amazes me how you could possibly think that emails and possible virus bearing attachments dont pertain to computers…
I don’t think that. This thread is not for all things related to computers. Please see my above post. Please see the original post which I linked to.
And, in fact, I DID leave your comment as it WAS a computer tip. I deleted the comments related to a specific email hoax
bombmaniacParticipantgranted alu v’alu divrei elokim chaim, and like i said im only posting all this in response to shlomozalman. nowhere did i say that CC is the only yeshiva that teaches mussar. every yeshiva has a mussar seder. i am simply saying that it is emphasized more in CC.
bombmaniacParticipantshlomozalman…why are you so against CC…have you had a bad experience??? as you should have seen chofetz chaim is like slabodka in many regards, it may not be perfect but it is close enough. asking what the alter would do simply means that we should filter our actions through a filter of mussar and yashrus. not everything that is mutar and legal should be done, simply because it is not YOSHER. its not an abstract question…it is a very practical one. if you are well grounded in the principles of mussar, you will be able to decide what is yosher and what isnt. i believe chofetzchaim posted above that we should think “what would this look like on the front page of the times” simply put…what do you think it would look like. true it may be technically allowed…but should you still do it? i see no reason not to think like that! if everyone thought like that we would have fewer problems in this world.
as for our supposed “inferiority complex”…it is no such thing. each yeshiva has things it is proud of, and we are proud of our set up. ie…our similarities to slabodka that is rarley if ever seen these days. what i mean to say is you rarely if ever see a yeshiva that has a clear mesorah, a clear derech in mussar and hashkafa. as for lakewood not allowing us into their elite club…whatever that means…ask yourself this question, is that mussardik??? is it mussardik to exclude a large group of jews from your world because they are from a different yeshiva? in chofetz chaim the answer is no…maybe by you the answer is yes, and that is sad.
as for the only place to learn how to learn. there are many yeshivos that dont have a set specific derech halimud. in many places, each rebbi chooses what he wants to do based on whim…or what he did when he was in yeshiva…we have a clear derech halimud, and therefore one can learn how to learn. how can you learn how to learn if the way to learn isnt clear?
i have been saying through all these posts that the purpose of me defending and pushing CC like this is only in response to all the bashing, this is not a plug for whynotme to remain in CC against his will.
bombmaniacParticipantit basicallyt means your average macher the guy who must be in the center of every situation…
bombmaniacParticipantok. here goes. DA: check your video drivers…if you can upgrade them.
everyone is talking about 7 you just have to talk to the right people 😀
vista was more user friendly that XP but it was slower and more cumbersome unless your computer was above average.
my computer is quite above average, and i used to use vista. at the time i had problems…but nothing major. i liked vista. but after installing 7 i realized how awful vista truly was. it was slower and much more unstable. windows 7 is much much better than vista because it is faster…it is more stable…it comes standard with 64 bit (which is a big advantage now that most software companies are making 64 bit compatible programs) AND (and i repeat) AND…unlike vista, windows 7 was THOROUGHLY tested by microsoft and the general public, and as such has had most of its quirks bugs and problems worked out already.
bombmaniacParticipantbasically dont open ANY email with attachments unless you know who it is coming from and verify with that person that he or she is indeed sending you an attachment. dont open spam. only open mail you are expecting.
bombmaniacParticipantnetnanny is awful i would recommend using k-9 http://www1.k9webprotection.com/ for filtering. every time a site pops up that gets blocked you have the option of allowing that site for specific amounts of time…or permanently allow that site. this will allow you to listen to nachum segal and whatever…and yahoo mail…
bombmaniacParticipantlol :D:D:D
bombmaniacParticipanta vadeh oib dein mammeh lashon iz yiddish zulst eer redten yiddish. ober oib eer zent geboyren in america…zul eer redten english. es is fein tzu veissen yiddish…ober far vos nisht redten english?
bombmaniacParticipantyoure absolutely right no one should pick a yeshiva based on a blog however there is no reason not to at least check it out just because you saw it on a blog…
January 12, 2010 6:08 am at 6:08 am in reply to: Should Boy & Girl Cousins Talk To Each Other? #672408bombmaniacParticipantso why are we on here so often…?
bombmaniacParticipantr’ shaya cohen believs that we have the best derech halimud and derech in mussar…that is not to say that he believes all other yeshivos are worthless. basically heres what he says. there are many mekomos of torah…but chofetz chaim is the only YESHIVA. thats what he says. he has a point to a certain extent, but he is not saying that all other yeshivos are worthless and not worth the bricks they are built from. he is simply saying that he believes the CC derech is the best and optimal. not that the others are wrong..just that they have what to work on. no one in their right mind can say that peopel in the mir dont know how to learn…its just differences in the derech halimud which he feels chofetz haim has right. by the way…mir and CC are pretty close seeing as the rosh yeshiva and rav berenbaum were quite close..
as for whether CC is the only yeshiva that equips you for the nisyonos of daily life…the answer is a definite no…but it is the BEST yeshiva to equip you for the nisyonos of daily life.
and by the way…the reason me and chofetzchaim are pushing it so hard is because of all the bashing…
Please take this with a grain of salt, realizing that it is from bombmaniac. I doubt that he is properly saying over what R’ Shaya Cohen holds. – YW Moderator
bombmaniacParticipantbeautifully said. i was listening to a shmuz by rabbi shaifer and he said what i think more people should hear…that the idea of your bashert isnt findint someone absolutely perfect. its not that you find 2 people so alike that it just seems to fit. aht a bashert is is the person who perfectly complements you. a person who has maalos to match your chesronos…and that way the couple could constantly work to better themselves.
(thats not to say you should take a girl with the biggest maalos and pair her with the worlds biggest chesaron…but you get the point)
bombmaniacParticipantits too bad chofetz chaim doesnt have a seminary (as far as i know) or id say CC…lol
bombmaniacParticipantso if i said chofetz chaim didnt want you…youd apply?

bombmaniacParticipantyou just hit the proverbial nail right on the head!
January 11, 2010 11:27 pm at 11:27 pm in reply to: Should Boy & Girl Cousins Talk To Each Other? #672394bombmaniacParticipantquick question here…just to get a perspective…if any of you saw your female cousin in the street would you say hello?
