Ben Levi -“I personally feel that since there are Dr.s with medical degrees that are wary of vaccines people have a full right not to take them.”
Well there was a discussion in a popular school whether or not students should be allowed in even though they aren’t vaacinated. The board was willing to hear both sides from the doctors who are pro the vaacine and against it. Interestingly enough only the doctors pro the vaccine were there. (as heard from my boss)
blinkyParticipant“Which is why people should get their titers, especially if they fear exposure, and get a booster if needed”
Actually no- you do not get a booster right after getting the shot. And if your immunity weakens over the year, yes you can get a booster, but then again it doesn’t stop you from getting the disease 100%. Which is why everyone should be vaccinated so there will be a less chance of it going around.
blinkyParticipantI work for a pediatrician. The vaccine is only 80% effective, which means you can still catch the disease regardless. If everyone was immune, the disease would be weakened but unfortanately that is not the case. Most of the cases that occurred recently were in unvaccinated children under one who could not get the shot being that the first shot is at 12 months. So if you don’t want to vaccinate just be aware that you are putting other people in danger- either those who are too young to get the vaccine, or some people that their bodies have a low immunity even though they had the shot. There are also some people that due to medical conditions cannot receive live vaacines. There was also a miscarriage that occured from this outbreak. You are putting other people at risk.

March 23, 2012 5:12 pm at 5:12 pm in reply to: Older Siblings More Ruchniyosdik Than Younger Siblings #862321blinkyParticipantWell there is a saying that as the generations go on they lessen in ruchniyus.
The technology and styles or attraction to internet….etc that we have now are not comparible to ten years ago.
I know teachers say that their students from now are much harder than students from a few years ago.
So there is some truth to what you say.
(P.s. I come out somewhere in the middle..lol)
blinkyParticipantOomis- nice post
Just to add on- for those who say that inner beauty is important and that the girls meeting boys mothers is extreme that may be true, but that wasn’t her point she was trying to bring.
What i took from this article is that girls have a responsibility to look their best especially while attending a meeting means so much to them. If they took their time out to go to a meeting that might be awkward, (meeting the boys mothers and all) obviously shows their want to get married.
Before you go for an interview lets say, everyone tries to look their best. Whether spending a longer time on your hair or wearing a nicer outfit… Because something thats important to you, you want to give off your best impression. Your not going to say well the interviewer should see me for the inside for who i am, if you come in looking “schluchy” – messy hair, outdated clothes…etc.
blinkyParticipantNOMTW- I hear. Im sure the writer agrees that middos and personality…etc should be the main focus in a shidduch. But that wasn’t the point of the article. She was only commenting on the innitial impression she got just from seeing what the bulk of the crowd was like.
blinkyParticipantNOMTW- I actually did find the article confusing though not for your reasons- i thought she was advocating that girls should really on their natural features rather than try to enhance them! Only towards the end was i clarified.
The writer did not say that girls have to look like a model- she just said that girls should make sure they take care of their basic appearance. And i totally agree. Unfortunately we do find that some (not all) older singles tend to have “that look” (hair in a pony, no makeup, outdated clothes) Though nose jobs and violet lenses are a bit extreme, definitely makeup and hair goes a long way in enhancing your appearance.
blinkyParticipantI “toe” tally agree shticky, this is an ongoing “pattern” !
What can we do “two” “heel” the problem?
blinkyParticipantTBB- Wow thank you for all your effort done for ppl you don’t even know. I am so amazed at your ahavas yisroel, it should be a zechus for anything you need.
Good Shabbos to you too!
blinkyParticipantHe wanted to destroy the Jews fast,
So lots Haman decided to cast,
On Adar fourteen,
Of Jews he’ll be clean,
So that no man, woman, or child will last.
Shticky- you make it sound very scary when Esther was taken- i never thought of it that way…lol

blinkyParticipantbpt- Didnt want to hijack the hashgacha pratis thread, but i saw your remark about Lois Lane….it sounds vaguely familliar but its been so long I forgot the joke with it! lol
blinkyParticipantWow i am very amazed! Thanx for sharing Oomis.
All because you both were thinking of helping other people out.
(Through davening for them, or by giving in their names)
Something to think about…
blinkyParticipantGood Shabbos everybody, dont “forget” its Zachor this week (excuse the pun)

March 1, 2012 5:11 pm at 5:11 pm in reply to: Mitzvah to Offer Overweight Person a Car Ride? #856746blinkyParticipantWhat if its raining, or you know he is in a hurry, or hes holding heavy bags would you not offer him a ride?
In my opinion its not your place to judge. Offer him the ride, get the mitzvah and let him choose whether he will take it or not.
blinkyParticipantMany people are in the same situation as you, whether its no yesses or one yes. So its not you.
Think about it, all you need is that one yes. I know girls who were the same age that finally went on their first date and that was their bashert. Keep davening!!
blinkyParticipantMaybe ill go visit the frogs….
🙂

blinkyParticipant“G-E-N-E-S, not jeans. And its not just black / white; its height, eye color, hair texture, sports ability, ect.”
and just to add on- yup some yeshiva bochurim are very into genes when it comes to shidduchim- the girls hair and eye color, height and weight…lol
blinkyParticipantBaalHabooze- please tell AYC the limerick thread needs him!!! He had great ones!
blinkyParticipant“but to say,”I can’t go out, because my face is not made up”, that’s also uncalled for.”
Its always when you have to run around the corner to the supermarket for five minutes, and you didn’t have time to put on anything and your feeling gross you meet the shadchan or the teacher you loved, or an old friend you haven’t seen in years….lol
blinkyParticipant“Ugly girls are ugly. Make-up won’t change that.
Good-looking girls are good-looking. Make-up won’t change that”
I disagree.
Besides for the fact that ugly is a strong term, lets say people who don’t exactly have pretty features. Makeup can definiely improve their appearance.
There are so many techniques in makup that can help. Certain ways that blush is applied can make a round face look narrower, or it can even the severity of a double chin. Or if someone has bad skin a good base can cover blemishes/blotchiness and make it look smooth, which then results in putting on bronzer/blush to add coloring otherwise her face will be pale. Or if someone has a large nose lets say, putting nice coloring on her eyes can take focus away from her nose and it won’t be as bad.
As for pretty girls- good for them they don’t have to wear as much but everyone could use some more coloring- even pretty girls can wake up in the morning with a pale face and bags under her eyes! So a nice light touch is fine.
I can go on and on but i think that a lot has already been said.
blinkyParticipantRumbling Fiery Dragons On Sale?
blinkyParticipantThere is nothing wrong with single girls wearing makeup as a matter they should be wearing it! Obviously if applied correctly only- if someone is wearing heavy eye makeup or an overly bright lipstick yeah there is something wrong. There is a difference between attractive and attracting.
Now for wearing makeup in general- Everyone should try to look their best regardless if they are single or married. So blush to cover up paleness or eyeliner to bring out your eyes a bit or a nice gloss to your lips…it just enahnces your appearance, and just makes you look more vibrant! Its actually quite annoying when i see other girls or even marrieds (some teachers too) who are walking around with a pale face or dry lips- just put something on!!
