“while there was ahort period of hospitals being stretched a bit, especially those with temporary covid ICUs”

I consider having temporary ICU’s and managing high acuity patient’s in hallways to be overwhelmed. I guess we will have to agree to disagree.
I agree that the healthcare system quickly adapted and bh was able to handle the situation. But I am unaware of a single NYC hospital that was “way below baseline capacity at all times!” If you can share the names of these hospitals that would be great.

“And no, the hospitals were NOT overwhelmed, not even in NY. The Javits and the Comfort prove that. And in the rest of the country the hospitals and the whole medical sector has been practically destroyed by the stupid restrictions. There was no curve to flatten.”

What a flat out disgusting lie. Shame on you. Hospitals in NY had beds in every possible place imaginable. Some had to install more piping for oxygen because they were putting critical patients in random places not normally meant for patient care. Several had to bring in refrigerated trucks to store the overwhelming numbers of dead, and trust me, those trucks were full. Speak to someone who actually worked in a healthcare these past few months before you spew idiocy on the internet.

When will you start a thread exclusively bashing Cuomo? You don’t even need to manipulate the truth in order to blame him for thousands of deaths. If he was a Republican you would have been attacking him for weeks.

“People are going to die by this virus. Older people, vulnerable people are going to die from this virus. That is going to happen, despite whatever you do. Because with all our progress as a society, we can’t keep everyone alive. When asked a follow-up question about how some families believe that under different protocols their loved ones would be alive, Cuomo said: “People rationalize death in different ways. I don’t think there is any logical rationale to say they would be alive today.””

But of course it’s only Trump who is stupid, arrogant, and lacks empathy about all the death.
I’m all for criticizing the President, but when the criticism and blaming is so disgustingly one sided you people lose all credibility.

Does it strike anyone as a little strange that he claims to have 100% success rate? I am unaware of any other medication in the history of modern medicine that worked 100% of the time.
As Ubiquitin pointed out Dr Zelenko’s has an outpatient clinic. The overwhelming majority of people who get sick with COVID-19 never need to go to the hospital and get better on their own after a few days/weeks. The fact that none of his patients got really sick (assuming you believe his numbers) still doesn’t prove that Hydroxychloroquine is a miracle drug.

CTLawyer, is their data showing that banning plastic bags lead to “Cleaner streets and byways?”

“The sky is not falling people”
It speaks volumes when the government cares more about bail reform and banning plastic bags than the quality of life of its citizens. Crime is up, the MTA is a disaster, homelessness is rising, and DeBlasio only seems to care about giving his wife tens of millions of dollars for a mental health program that has yielded no results. Many people feel that the City is on track to be like how things were in the 1980’s. What indication do you have that things are going well in NYC?

No. Your Rav is not chayiv misa because he’s a shogeg. You, at this point, are no longer a shogeg so if you delay or allow your children to delay, you would be chayiv misa, unlike your Rav and your friends who are, as I said shogegim.
How are Rabbonim shogegim? Unless they’ve been living completely secluded from society for the past 5 years they have heard of this. Yet not a single one advocates for it.

Do you and Libbi sit on a tribunal and pasken which 21 year old boys meet the requirements of the SA? How am I supposed to know which 22 year old boys to kill? You should start publishing a list of names. Thank you in advance.

“I would wager that the process to create a single plastic bag is more harmful to the environment start to finish than a single paper bag.”

According to the NY Times, quoting the Britain’s Environment Agency:
“You’d have to reuse a paper bag at least three times before its environmental impact equaled that of a high-density polyethylene plastic bag used only once. And if plastic bags were reused repeatedly, they looked even better.”
“The study found that an avid shopper would have to reuse his or her cotton bag 131 times before it had a smaller global warming impact than a lightweight plastic bag used only once.”

“The plastic bags are NOT sold, a tax is collected if a customer wants one. Therefore SNAP and WIC purchases are exempt because the purchase is paid fro by the state and the state doesn’t pay tax to itself.”

The City is calling it a fee not a tax, and according to the NY Post the vendor gets to keep 40% of fees they collect. At the very least SNAP and WIC should be responsible for the vendors portion. In any event, why are the poor absolved of any responsibilities when it comes to protecting the environment?

True and they very expensive and most stores will likely not offer them to customers for free.

#2 For a hundred years or more shoppers in Europe have had to provide their own bags and most used public transit or walked.
I’ve been to several European countries and have always received a bag when shopping..

I always carried small net shopping bags when in Europe, cheap, easy to store in a pocket.
Good for you. You should be proud of your Tikkun Olam.

It’s NOT all about you or NYers. The whole world is affected by the plastic mess in oceans, forests, etc
True, but why do our concerns need to be totally discarded?

“To BK613 DO NOT MISINTERPRET THE WORDS OF LIBBI!
Libbi does not claim that the RY are Shoitim. They know what they are doing. They cater to their clientele.”

Ohhh I get it, the American Roshei Yeshiva are just too naive and are controlled by their community to know what the Torah says. But you are all knowing and everyone should listen to the wisdom that flows from your mouth. I’m glad we clarified your position on the American Gedloim.

“If some boys think that this insulting, too bad. When a Bachur is age 20, he is a Bar Onshin. A 23 yr. old Bachur and 3 of his boy friends that did not listen to Shidduchim before age 23, each one will be held collectively responsible, for the single that they caused. It may very well be their own sister, niece, or cousin. STOP CAUSING THE SHIDDUCH CRISIS! Listen to Shidduchim by age 21!”

I have no problem with you using childish name calling. All I asked was if you think these outrageous comments will be effective in instituting change? Most adults know that it doesn’t work.

You never answered which “Askonim proved that by boys waiting till 23 they are causing Agunas.” How did they “prove” this? What was their methodology? What (if any) was their training in statistics and data analysis?

“You claim that the majority of boys aren’t ready at 21. What other halachos in Shulchan Aruch are you willing to give up because the person isn’t ready?”

Are you arguing that we should force boys who aren’t ready to get married under the chuppa? I (and I would hope any sane person) would argue no, forcing people to get married when they aren’t ready is a stupid idea. However, if you want to advocate changing the current yeshiva system to one that guys are ready to get married at 21 then by all means go ahead.

“You then claim that some Roshei Yeshiva don’t agree with this.If they are Orthodox Roshei Yeshiva, they surely agree with the Shulchan Aruch,”

I am unaware of a single American Rosh Yeshiva, of any frum litvish yeshivish yeshiva, who encourages his talmidim to date and get married at 21. If you are aware of one who does please share it with the rest of us.

“unless they never heard of that particular halacha, which is possible since they aren’t poskim.”

So you agree with Libbi that all the American Roshei Yeshiva are “American Shotim?” On top of that, they are also too biased to give our children proper hadracha? These are the Gedolim and Rabbonim who the American community rely on to be mchanech and guide our children. If they are all “shotim” and biased we have a bigger problem than the shidduch crisis!

“Are you claiming that there is no shidduch crisis?”

I am claiming that the current shidduch system is heavily stacked in the boys favor, with boys having tens of resumes to choose from while most girls are lucky to have 1 or 2. I have not seen any evidence that it is because of a numbers problem.

“3-) This is not insulting, it`s meant to prove a point.”

OK, I wish you much hatzlacha with your methods of persuasion.

“4-)Whatever your other reasons are, its just adding salt to the wounds. The wounds are done by the boys and their parents that refuse to listen to Shidduchim younger.”

You entire shpiel is based off the “research” and “numbers” you compiled. I am saying that the numbers you have don’t show the whole picture, thus, they are useless and don’t prove anything.

    1. You did not explain why the American Roshei Yeshiva dont agree with you. But thank you for clarifying that you do consider them to be American Shotim who are responsible for causing agunos.
    2. I’m not sure what your point about learning and college is but it looks like you agreed with me, you need to change the culture so that American boys yeshiva chinuch is complete at age 21. You can’t just say that 21 year old guys are ready to get married.
    3. You didn’t answer my question, do you think that you’re going to insult your way into making changes?
    4. I don’t doubt that your numbers are real. I’m saying they are too limited and don’t take a bunch of other factors in to consideration. Therefore, your conclusion means nothing.

    A few questions for @Libbi:

Why don’t the American Roshei Yeshiva shlita agree with you? They are not telling their Talmidim to marry at 21. Are you including these Rabbonim when you say “American Yankee Doodels” and “American Yeshivish Shotim?”

Why is it so hard for you to accept that American litvish boys are not the same as boys from Europe, EY or Chasisim? For better or for worse, we have different cultural norms. You can argue that we need to change the culture and prep American boys to “be ready” at 21. However, that is not your argument. (No, I am not saying that no 21 year old boys are ready get married, only that the vast majority are not.)

Do you really believe that insulting Americans by using phrases like “American Yankee Doodels,” “single girls are Agunos,” and “American Yeshivish Shotim” is going to help your cause? Do you really think you are going to name call and insult people to the point where they finally give in to you?

Lastly, which “Askonim proved that by boys waiting till 23 they are causing Agunas?” Anyone with minimal critical thinking skills and high school level knowledge of statistics realizes that the numbers your organization put out are juvenile and can not be relied on to make any serious conclusions.

Even if they manage to save for a down payment (20%=$160,000) why buy in Flatbush where all that will get you is a semi attached 3 bedroom and possibly a shared driveway, when you can go to other communities and get a larger house, bigger yard, private driveway, and an eruv, all for the same amount or less?

The average American girl will not go out with a boy age 18-20. 99% of boys age 18-20 are beyond immature and not ready to get married. You can blame it on the “Goyishkeit that seeped into the Yeshivish system” all you want but it doesn’t change the reality that these boys simply are not ready this young.

Side point, The American Gedolim don’t support boys dating this young. Why does it matter what the Gedolim in EY say? This is in no way to denigrate their gadlus and chashivus in any way chas vshalom, but we have our leaders here who don’t agree with this.

Moving to Florida is an option that I am considering. In addition to the high taxes of NYC, the quality of life is declining thanks to our idiot mayor. Without serious change crime and quality of life will plummet back to the levels in the 80’s. Hate crimes against Jews are at a record high (another few yesterday https://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news/featured/1796784/hate-in-boro-park-numerous-hasidic-jews-attacked-on-friday-night-expect-a-deblasio-tweet-and-nothing-else.html) and the Mayor doesn’t care. All he cares about is pandering to minorities so he can appear “woke” and continue his socialist agenda of “making NYC Fair.” I hope Chasidish communities don’t continue to endorse him (but i’m won’t holding my breath.) Why anyone would settle in Flatbush/BP long-term is beyond me. The frum areas in Florida have shuls, yeshivos, restaurants, supermarkets and all the other amenities that a fum community needs. There is no state income tax, the economy is growing and its a conservative leaning state- all pluses in my book.

Rabbonim oversaw the creation of the current Yeshiva system, are you implying they forgot/ignored this Chazal?

Lets see: The Public school system has unlimited funding via tax payer dollars. So yes, they can afford to accept a child with no thoughts about the cost involved. Private schools (Jewish/Christian/Islamic/Non- religious) aren’t funded by the tax payers and thus have a limited budget and at the end of the day have to meet payroll, pay the bills and all other expenses that come with running a school. Your comparison between Yeshiva administrators and Public School administrators is (not surprisingly) appalling and dishonest.

As an aside, many illegal immigrants (estimated by Congressional Budget Office at 50-75%) pay Federal/State/local taxes, and all of them pay taxes like sales tax. I’m not saying the taxes they pay into the system offsets what they take out, but saying they “pay zip” isn’t completely true either.

There are frum organizations that run separate men and women groups that use good hechsherim and keep the trips kosher. The non frum groups are not even remotely kosher in any sense of the word. The hechsherim they allow are not ones accepted by most, keeping shabbos is optional, and mingling between guys and girls is actively encouraged.
