“This isn’t going to return anything to the economy, because most people with productive jobs are already paying off their loans and are also spending money already.”
Correct, but instead of these productive people giving say $1000 to the gov and spending another $1000 on other things they now have $2000 to spend on other things. How will this not benefit the economy?

“got there because of bad financial decisions”
And should therefore be condemned to a life of financial hardships? Would you let people discharge student debt in bankruptcy? This is different than other debt (credit card, mortgage) because as you agreed the gov played a roll in creating the problem.

“that won’t change if we forgive their loans.”
True which is why I support not handing out loans like candy.

#1 You know exactly who he is referring to. Give me a break.
#2 polls (yougov) show that both AOC and Sanders are more popular than Biden among millennials and Sanders is more popular than Biden when adjusted for all (voter eligible) age groups. Yes, Biden may be a moderate/centrist Democrat but you can’t pretend than progressives are insignificant players in the party. Sanders and AOC have both said they believe they can, and intend on pushing Biden to the left. Hopefully Biden has the wherewithal to stand up to them and not go off the deep end.
#3 Biden refused to answer the question despite being asked about it multiple times because he didn’t want to alienate the progressive left who he needed to get elected. (Another indication that the progressive wing isn’t insignificant and powerless)

Touro is a competitively priced private college. However, compared to Brooklyn College (or other CUNY schools) its expensive. Tuition varies by program (Ave J is different than LCM) In addition to Federal and State (FAFSA/TAP) aid Touro offers several scholarships, both academic and financial need based. The applications are pretty straight forward.

“Stop believing the nonsense of right-wing pundits that liberals equal socialism and communism.”
“Stop painting the entire Democratic party as the party of AOC it’s a lie and not true”

Among millennials YouGov currently ranked the most popular members of the Democrat party. The top 5 are:
    Obama
    Sanders
    Jimmy Carter
    AOC
    Warren
    (Joe Biden is #8)
If filtered to include gen X and baby boomers: Sanders falls to # 3 and AOC to # 11 and Biden rises to # 4.
I found similar results from several other polls so please excuse me if I don’t believe you.
Millennials include people born from 1981-96, we are not talking about a bunch of 18 year old kids. Does it not concern you that they like Sanders and AOC more than they like Joe Biden? A large percentage of millennials voted for Biden with the intent of pushing him hard to the left.

“Any state legislature has the constitutional authority to directly award their state electoral votes, even now after the election, to any candidate of their choosing.”

While you may be correct do you really think that its a good idea. Trump can yell all he wants about voter fraud, stolen election, etc, but at some point he needs to give proof. And I’m talking about actual proof. I’m all for allowing him to sue anyone or State he wants and allowing the system play out (as seriously unlikely as it is that anything will change)
All Trump is accomplishing now is turning off Georgia voters who, in January, will decide if the Senate remains in Republicans hands and allow them to curtail some of Biden’s plans. The party leaders need to stand up to Trump and say if you have evidence lay it out on the table. Put up or shut up.

“As for operating rooms not being oxygenated, please check your facts. Operating rooms are in fact fire hazards because of the extra oxygen.”

Operating rooms have a higher air pressure than surrounding rooms. This is so that when the OR door is opened potentially contaminated air doesn’t flow into the clean operating room. The level of oxygen (oxygen concentration) remains the same.
The only oxygen that is “pumped in” is whatever is being provided to the patient to assist their breathing during surgery and yes, this oxygen is a potential fire hazard as are other things like surgical drapes.
If the entire OR was infused with extra oxygen as some are claiming, OR fires would be happening on a daily basis as sparks are a frequent occurrence in surgery.

As syag mentioned, your ignorance regarding mental health is glaring. May Hashem continue to bless you and your family with such ignorance.
My point was/is, there are serious public health consequences to unilaterally locking everything down. You dismissed people losing their jobs due to the lockdown. What if that means a family loses their home and kids end up in a shelter? What if a kid couldn’t be successful on zoom school thus falls behind his peers and ends up not graduating high school, joins a gang and ends up in prison. What if childhood vaccination rates fall so low that we end up with totally preventable outbreak in a few years. The list of negative outcomes are endless, and it would be nice if politicians would acknowledge them and would take a more balanced approach.

“And yes — pikuach nefesh (saving lives) overrides jobs!”

I do believe lockdowns and restrictions do have a role in managing the pandemic. However, your comment is short sighted. I spent the summer rotating at an inpatient psychiatric unit in NY. The number of previously stable people (prior to the pandemic) who needed to be admitted because they lost their jobs, life savings, etc was not to be believed. Off the top of my head I can think of close to 10 who attempted suicide and bh failed. This obviously doesnt include the people who never made it to my unit because they were unfortunately successful. Consistently well over 20% of the daily patient were admitted because they couldn’t access their normal out patient psychiatric care, resulting in them relapsing and requiring hospitalization. So while you may be correct that pikuach nefesh overrides jobs, taking away people’s jobs can and does lead to sakanas nifashos.

The measures could come as early as Tuesday. If cases continue to rise, the city will consider banning all gatherings of more than 10 people; issuing fines to those refusing to wear a mask when offered; closing private schools and care centers; and shutting down non-essential businesses.”

Without testing how can anyone know if they actually got it twice? There are thousands of different viruses that can cause fever, fatigue, and coughing, and COVID isn’t the only virus that can cause loss of smell/taste.
I personally know someone who had all the classic symptoms around 3 months ago and assumed it was covid and didn’t get tested. About 2 weeks ago he had all the symptoms again and got tested for antibodies as well as a nasal swab. Turns out he doesn’t have antibodies (unless they completely wore off in under 3 months) and the swab came back positive.
I’ve also know several people who had the virus right after Purim (confirmed with symptoms, a nasal swab and subsequent development of antibodies) who got tested for antibodies again over the past 2 weeks and the antibodies test came back negative.

Generally when a group is vehemently anti something to the point that they freely justify violence to get what they want, and describe themselves as revolutionaries, they have a goal in mind, namely to apply their ideology to the world.

    “This is laughable”
A simple google search shows 229000 confirmed cases in NYC and 418000 in the state. This ignores all those who were told by their doctors at the height of the pandemic “you probably have covid but we don’t have enough testing so just stay home.” (an idea supported by State and local Gov.) and those who were asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic and didn’t seek care.
See the following study DOI: 10.1126/scitranslmed.abc1126 which estimates that up to 80% of cases through March may have gone undiagnosed.
Or this WAPO article from June 25: “CDC chief says coronavirus cases may be 10 times higher than reported”

” It does show however that after the lockdowns the virus spread was stopped in its tracks.”
I don’t dispute lockdowns played a role in getting control of the situation in NY.

“The lockdowns have led to a spectacular drop in cases, hospitalizations, and deaths in New York. Ending lockdowns in Florida, Texas, and Arizona led to increases in all three.”

Its amazing how you consider NY results “spectacular.” Which part of over 32,000 deaths is spectacular? You can just as easily attribute the drop in cases and deaths in NY to the fact that the virus ran its course. Hundreds of thousands (if not millions) already got the virus and have immunity and unfortunately, all those who wouldn’t survive already passed away.
Yes, cases are rising in the States you mentioned. They will no matter when a State reopens. The states you mentioned are seeing 1/10 the daily deaths NY and NJ were seeing at their peaks, clearly they are doing something better than Cuomo’s epic disaster.
A lockdown isn’t going to make COVID disappear, remember it was “15 days to slow the spread” not “15 days to cure COVID”

A Rebbe’s job is roughly from 9am-2/3 pm. Get a second job, no one making 6 figures only works 5-6 hours per day (including recess and lunch break). Tutor at night, (I know guys in their 20’s making $50+ an hour.) Get a summer job as a Rebbe, teach English subjects, become a second seder Rebbe, sell insurance, the possibilities are endless.

“Most kids have semi-traumatic emotional experiences. So divorce doesn’t have to be worse then all the other experiences.”
You also made this up. Divorce isn’t a “semi-traumatic experience” it is fully traumatic. A child’s life as they know it is being ripped apart and usually not in a pleasant way.

“once a young woman/man has been by a good therapist for a few years you can definitely assume he/she has reversed whichever negative effects/impressions they got from their parents.”

I respectfully disagree. There are many kids who come from divorced homes who do not come out of the divorce more resilient. Divorce can be traumatic to children and they can end up with untreated mental health conditions as well as not knowing how to have healthy relationships. This is NOT to say that all kids who’s parents are divorced have these issues, I’m not even saying most do.
However, the other side not doing research, imo, is negligent.

As someone who has also worked in NYC EMS I can assure you that this isn’t true. Cops can restrain someone as they deem necessary. There is no rule or protocol that requires them to keep a suspect handcuffed and pinned on the floor until EMS arrives.
EMS doesn’t “take over custody of the Perp”. If a patient is under arrest or being detained and needs medical attention at least 1 officer will ride in the back of the ambulance (with the patient handcuffed to the stretcher if necessary) and stay with the patient until they are discharged from the hospital.

    Health,
Floyd clearly goes limp and unresponsive towards the end of the video. A renowned health expert such as yourself should have been able to see that clearly. Unconscious people are generally not capable of resisting and the cop still kept his knee on his neck.

“There is no connection between the small groups of people who are antifa and the democratic party.”
Maybe not directly but they sure are slow to condemn them. (Side question: if ANTIFA isn’t a violent group why are you so adamant that they have no affiliation/support from the democratic party?)

“Please provide examples of antifa openly advocating for violence, wreaking havoc, defacing and destroying public and private property, and assaulting private citizens who they feel disagree with them.”
Read Mark Brays interview with Vox, violence is part of their MO no one disputes that. Go through their twitter feeds, while they might not use these platforms to call for violence (the account would get shut down by twitter if they did) they certainly don’t make it a secret which side they support. Read the ADL’s entry on the group. These are not peaceful people. They are anarchists who believe in using violence to get what they want.

“A person committing acts of violence does not automatically make them an antifa member.”
I agree, many people currently rioting are thugs affiliated with other groups, or no group at all. Whats your point.

“Twitter just shutdown a fake antifa account that was really tied to white nationalist.”
There is no shortage of ANTIFA accounts on social media. If you think all of them are fake then I can’t help you.

“Trump created a false punching bag so that he looks tough to his supporters. Similarly, Trump saying that he will send in the military when nobody asked him is political theater.”
Trump is hardly the first politician to engage in political theater. It’s part of the job get over it.

“Walking to a church to take a picture with the bible is beyond outrageous.”
Why is it beyond outrageous? He was visited a historic church that was vandalized and set on fire by rioters. Political stunt, sure, but again, Trump isn’t the first and won’t be the last politician to do something like this.

“The answer is because there is no such organization and therefore the title doesn’t even make sense.”
I agree that it’s not a unified group what exactly does that change? There are dozens of local/regional groups all around the world with similar radical beliefs.

““Tolerate” ? What do you mean ?” “They should not be allowed to do anything illegal.”
They openly advocate for violence. They wreak havoc, deface and destroy public and private property. They assault private citizens who they feel disagree with them. The left/democrats/mainstream media are reluctant and slow to criticize them, not nearly as quick as they are when they criticize a right wing extremist group.

“Does trump, and by default his supporters and the GOP, tolerate white supremacists/Nazis ?”
IMO No. The GOP/right is much better at condemning and removing extremists from their ranks.

“Can I start a trolling post that says a vote for trump is a vote for white supremacists/Nazis (those are organizations )? Would you accept that ?”
100%, go right ahead. I’d be shocked if several threads like that don’t already exist.

“I assume that 1 can’t even define who antifa is.”
Why do you assume that? Is it because he is a conservative and therefore must be a moron and racist?
Why don’t you explain who they are and what they believe for all of the conservative people on this forum. Please use simple English because we are all idiots. Please be sure to explain why a group comprised of “mostly socialists, anarchists, and communists” who “openly embrace violence as a justifiable means to that end” should be tolerated in polite society (quotes taken from Vox.com)

Take your phone to TAG and have them install an app lock. They will have the password making it impossible to open any app that you don’t want (including the play store so you can’t download new apps.) This option doesn’t delete the other apps from the phone but makes it impossible to use them without entering a password.
Another option is to have a parent or friend create the password. This isn’t as fool proof as having TAG do it but is definitely better than nothing.
