BigGolemParticipantIf shadchanim are a necessary evil, they are more necessary than ever, considering the strict separation of the genders in much of the frum world. Perhaps the most strict it’s ever been. That leaves people in service to shadchanim as much as shadchanim ‘serve’ them.
BigGolemParticipantSegulah for Parnassa? Working.
BigGolemParticipantThe discussion veered off to resumes, let’s bring it back to shadchanim.

And who are you to determine what most people anywhere should or shouldn’t be doing?
BigGolemParticipantNowadays, we are all Zionists.
BigGolemParticipantToi: So those who eat would not be counted it a minyan with you?
BigGolemParticipantTo SL1, you are certainly right. The reason for my reluctance to ‘give up cholov yisroel’ may be similar to someone who slowly goes otd but cannot bring himself to eat ham or shellfish. It has been drilled into him for so long that certain foods are off limits. Cholov stam is certainly not treif. But in a culture that essentially forbids it, where cholov yisreal is a required and obligatory chumra, to eat cholov stam could mean a lifestyle change. It would mean leaving that culture. All that can be intimidating.
BigGolemParticipantBut Curiosity, do you eat cholov stam?
BigGolemParticipantSpain and Greece are in the same boat but for opposite reasons. Greece borrowed up their eyeballs and the debt is now threatening the government and the whole banking system. Banks lent to the govt and a govt default would collapse the banks and the economy with them.
In Spain their debt level is among the lowest of major countries in the EU. The banks are holding massive amounts of bad debt after their real estate bubble collapsed. The govt must backstop the banks, which rapidly increases govt debt. So now Spain needs a bailout.
BigGolemParticipantWow. I thought my original post was unduly harsh and cynical and unfair. But Curiosity took it to a whole new level.
