The do not call registry does not apply to charities.

Whenever I get a call from I charity I’m not familier with, I ask for a copy of their IRS form 1023 and for IRS form 990 for the previous 3 years. Additionally, I never commit by phone and the checks for my Maaser account do not have my address or phone number printed on them.

The landlord can deal with the problem whatever way they choose. You may have the right to withhold rent until the problem is solved.

There’s only one possible problem (with hiring barbers who have S’micha). That if someone has a Shaila about pots and pans they will run to the nearest barber shop.

This doesn’t seem to be a problem for Shatnez testers, Shochtim, and Mohelim. Why do you think barbers will be any different?

Each ZipCar has a designated parking space (generally in parking lots or gas stations) and every member has an access card. after reseving a car through a browser or smartphone app your card will unlock that particular car. The rental is completed when the car is returned to its designated parking space.

The cost per rental is cheaper than a traditional rental but there is a membership fee.

Don’t you realize that cheating the government out of its tax revenue is a Mitzvas Asay so it is Docheh the Laav of Shatnez?

It’s a complex scenario. Some instances are muter, some asur and some are a machlokes between the Bais Yosef and the Rema.

No, they refill the galley locally at every airport. What you saw was probably just leftovers from the previous route that plane took.

I remember when I bought a 250GB external drive, I thought it was so large until everyone backed up their computers on to it, and we all have lots of mp3 files.

I remember paying $300 for a 10GB hard drive. I actually bought 4 of them for a RAID array because it was such a good price. (I was using a Promise Ultra with the FastTrack firmware hack.)

i think it was chazal that said this but not sure say if everyone can put all their problems into a bag and and then pick any other bag everyone will pick their own since hashem in his infinite kindness gave everyone the tools THEY need for their tzaaros and you would NEVER want someone elses problems!!

Another way of looking at it is that no one else would ever choose to have your (or my) problems.

The term “USB Drive” doesn’t specify what type of media the data is actually stored on, it only specifies what interface it uses.

Most external drives are just desktop or laptop drives that are installed in an external enclosure. The ones that use desktop drives generally require external power and those that are made with laptop drives generally are powered through USB.

Your logic is flawed because it assumes that DY will cause carriers to drop out of the gene pool. DY is specifically designed not to eliminate carriers from the gene pool.

I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not R Akiva Eiger had a psak about this. After all, he took his wife’s last name, if I recall correctly.

No. Eiger was his mother’s last name not his wife’s. His father’s last name was Gins and his wives’ last names were Margolies and Feibelman.

DY will not decrease the number of carriers. Doing nothing would decrease the number of carriers slightly but the tradeoffs aren’t worth it.

Assuming a 3% carrier rate with DY in place the next generation will also have a 3% carrier rate. With no genetic screening in place the next generation will have a 2.955% carrier rate and a 0.0225% infection rate. after correcting the numbers to relect only those that survive it is still less than 2.956%

does she want to live a life of mesiras nefesh without the zechus of her husband learning? even if her husband earns a parnasa she will have to live with less if it is only one salary, and in such a case she would be living a kollel life style without the zechus of Torah, i dont envy her.

This is exactly what chazal wanted when they established the nussach of the kesubah. Why wouldn’t you envy that?

    I can only try:

I forgot to mention that the advantages of backing up to an external drive generally require that the drive be removed when it is not in use.

Also I used the term “electical fault” not lightning. I have never seen a drive damaged by lightning (but I’m not denying the possibilty) but have seen drives damaged from a disconnected neutral.

It is always better to separate your backup media from your computer. The following scenarios demonstrate why this is so:

    The computer is stolen.

The computers components are damaged by an electrical fault.

The data is damaged by malware.

Depending on what state you live in, it may actually be illegal to serve alcohol to minors, even in a private home, particularly if you are not the parent or guardian of the child. You may also be held legally responsible for any damage caused as a result of the alcohol, particularly if the child is under the age of 16.

It is illegal in all states for non family members. Here is a quote from the NIAAA: (emphasis mine)

Some States provide an exception when alcoholic beverages are furnished to a minor by a parent/guardian or spouse. Some States specify that the spouse must be of legal age, while others do not. APIS considers a State to have a spousal exception even if the age of the spouse is not specified.

In some of these States, the exception for family members applies only if the furnishing occurs in a specified location, e.g., all private locations, private residences only, or in the home of a parent or guardian only. No State has an exception for furnishing on private property by anyone other than a family member.

The second issue is that by us Jews, issues need to be resolved in Beis Din. Non-Jewish court is, generally speaking, assur gamur.

But Beis Din does not have jurisdiction over many of these matters and even for the matters that they do, it requires that both parties to agree to arbitration.
