From what I’ve read, Yankovic is not required by law to get permission from the artists he parodies.

The song “It’s Still Billy Joel To Me” would be covered by fair use because the subject is Billy Joel’s songs but almost all of his other songs wouldn’t because the origional work is not the target of his parody.

You cant have a copyright on a tune.

A song can be copyrighted and creating a new song with a tune from an existing song would be a derivative work and creation of derivative works is a right of the copyright holder.

Think about when you go to a wedding and they play the latest hits is it legal?

This is a different issue. performing rights only apple to public performances. A wedding is a private event.

    Did they even sell it?

    Yes, but that is irrelevent.

    Kiddush, fleishig, wait, wash, milchig.

    Every meal.

    We’re Dutch.

    j/k

IIRC milchig is never allowed after fleishig in the same meal regardless of how long the meal takes (or how short your minhag is to wait).

that explains why they said it was ALMOST a 100% match.

There is no such thing as an 100% match, that would require the tester to have knowledge that there is no other individual that have the same DNA sequence.

The quality of the music was much better then a typical one man band

its oned by the hall so you dont need to rent it and shlep it each time

One of the first rules for quality sound is “never use the house audio system”.

Realize that I wrote “remain cordial and friendly”. In this situation that’s all it calls for. Unconditional love makes them believe that you came to terms with their decision.

Under what conditions should a parent have unconditional love? If there are conditions is it unconditional?

The newer model is a full suspension with 6 inces of travel in the front and rear. The older model just has a front suspension with 3 inces of travel (the exact distance of travel varies by year). The best way to determine the model year is by the color. Since you already stated that you have disc brakes this eliminates pre-2001 models. Here are the colors for 01 throuth 05.

    2001: Silver/Red

    2002: Blue/Silver

    2003: Platinum/Red

    2004: Black/Orange

    2005: Matte Navy

If your frame is red the easiest way to tell the difference between the 2001 and the 2003 is that the 2001 has an RST fork and the 2003 has a Suntour fork.

Many are helping. It’s just that those helping cannot point to someone who was originally frum and state that that individual is currently frum because of them while people who help those who were not originally frum can make this statement.

Are you kidding? You can’t trust yourself with the danger, but Chazal would say you can trust your children with it?

Actually when it comes to others Chazal say “Judge all men favorably”.

I never stated my position on teenagers having an iPod touch (although if you look through the archives you might find my opinion on the matter).

I’d considure myself an enthusiest but non-cyclists might considure myself a serious biker.

When it comes to recreational routes I usually first find a trail on traillink and than use Google Maps to find nearby roads to complete the loop. My favorite route starts at the Long Valley trailhead of the Columbia Trail. I don’t start off on the trail but instead ride on Hwy 513 to the High Bridge trailhead where I get onto the trail and ride back to Long Valley.

The copyright owner may have a reason for withdrawing the item from the market and we should respect that.

Halacha isn’t concerned with IP rights other than being used as a revenue source.

This isn’t a Jews vs. Christians issue here. Its about an oppressed individual (or group of individuals) stereotyping an entire group based on the actions of a subset of that group. there were good and evil bankers just like there were good and evil land owners (you can say that about any profession).

Although I wasn’t there at the time I beleive Barnabas was killed by Jews as were others who attempted to convert Jews.

Jews weren’t allowed to own land so the made up stories about evil land owners. Christians weren’t allowed to lend with interest so they made up stories about evil bankers.

    2) Why do they certify so many dishwashing and laundry detergents but *no body soap?

I’m confised by your reasoning. If being Jewish excuses you from being patriotic than you should be proud to refrain from doing patriotic acts. If it doesn’t excuse you than you should be as patriotic as the rest of your school.

I don’t know of any halachic issues regarding placing your hand on your heart.

Who shows pictures at 30fps? NTSC is 24fps and pal is something else, but neither of them are 30.

Film is normally 23.976 FPS but there are some systems that use 24 FPS

    PAL is 25 FPS

    NTSC is 29.97 FPS

ATSC supports all of the above and adds 30, 50, 59.94, and 60 FPS

Being that i am getting married in one of the five boroughs i guess that means i need to be married by a “licensed” rav. However a friend of mine had it done by his rav who never got registered with nyc. Do you think they check the name and signature?

The city doesn’t license clergy, that would be a 1st ammendment problem. They only require them to be registered.

There is no reason to think that your money is going to pay the janitor.

Actually a percentage is used to pay the janitor. If the janitor were to be given a six figure salary than a larger percentage would go to the janitor and less to the rabbaim.

However, there are so many important causes to give to, and they are merely trying to stand out.

But they are just diverting tzedokah away from other organizations that are run more efficiently*. As a result less money is left for the true charitable use.

doing a mitzvah is great. getting others to do a mitzvah through yours is greater. therefore money that goes for advertising, is better than money that goes just for the cause, even if the “cause” money makes us feel better.

But they aren’t getting people to give tzedokah*, they are getting people who are already committed to giving tzedokah choose one organization (or cause) over another?

*I’m sure there are some who wouldn’t have given otherwise but the revenue generated from those donors are probably less than the advertizing campaign.

I want as much of my donation to go towards the cause that I’m donating to. If I’m donating for the poor, I want as much as possible to go to the poor and as little as possible to go to ad agencies and publishers.

Im sure these organatzias have a line of rabbonim backing them, and dont do things without the rabbonims concent.

But the rabbonim might be interested in maximizing income while as a donor I’m interested in maximizing efficiency.
