bezalelParticipant
do you think it’s chutzpa that the 7-11 stores say they ran out of cups and kids are stuck without the free slurpee?
A few years ago, on Black Friday in the afternoon I went to a store to get a GPS at their doorbuster price but the antisemites that ran the store claimed that they were sold out of that item.
bezalelParticipantThere is another issue here: Supermarkets often don’t pay the manufacturers until a product is sold and by scanning the Lipton 5 times Unilever is getting paid for 4 cases that Pepsico should be paid for. (I may have the componies wrong but I know that Lipton is distributed by a soda company that doesn’t own them.)
bezalelParticipantTry reseating the keyboard cable. If that doesn’t work you will likely need a new keypoard or plug in an external keyboard.
bezalelParticipantAmbulance copays are generally more expensive than car services.
bezalelParticipantThe problem with charging the insurance, is that they would have to also charge you the deductible, which is usually a couple hundred buck. And they have to really charge, they can’t just send a bill and ignore it.
I don’t think the deductible is that much of an issue because a hospital stay pretty much depletes any deductibles.
bezalelParticipantWhy isn’t Monsey affiliated? Wasn’t Monsey started by the Chofetz Chaim’s einekel before the war.
What R’ Mendel started before the war was a charity to raise money for the yeshiva in Radin. After the war he reestablished the yeshiva but instead of becoming the Rosh Yeshiva (He was a Rosh Yeshiva at REITS at the time) he gave that position to his son R’ Gershon.
bezalelParticipantthe 6 gig one is 3 sticks of 2gb in each of 3 slots with a 4th empty slot
That’s a strange arrangement. 2 1GB sticks are cheaper than 1 2GB stick, and when the slots are filled with matched pairs the computer performs better.
July 6, 2011 4:42 am at 4:42 am in reply to: Eidah Chareidis Chulent Ban – a question of hechsherim #783069bezalelParticipantWhy would a grocer not willingly accept food stamps, even without pressure from their hechsher?
It depends on their business model. If they run their business legitimatly accepting food stamps is just another hassle that is usually worth it, but if they want to run a “cash” business for its “tax advantages” the record keping requirements for accepting food stamps are prohibitive.
July 5, 2011 4:30 am at 4:30 am in reply to: Eidah Chareidis Chulent Ban – a question of hechsherim #783059bezalelParticipantI think a very defining difference is that the “Hechsher Tzedek” does not involve itself in any Kashrus issues. Therefore what they are doing is coming up with an alternative definition of Kashrus (and a subjective one at that).
They aren’t trying to redefine kashrus, one of the prerequisites for the Hechsher Tzedek is that the product also have a Kashrus Hechsher. What they are doing is repackaging “western values” (based on their secular philisophy) as jewish values under the guise of “Tzedek”.
bezalelParticipantOne more issue. I don’t know where the Bailey’s in the US comes from. LBD probably OK’s Bailey’s from Ireland.
All of their Irish Creme Whiskey is made in Newtownabbey Ireland. Unless the export whiskey is bottled elsewhere the products are identical.
The Star-K requires that Liqueurs (not to be confused with Liquors) have a Hechsher. Bailey’s doesn’t have a Hechsher from the KLBD, it is only approved by the LBD.
bezalelParticipantChukas HaGoyim, the KKK wears hoods.
bezalelParticipantEven if Mutter, it’s definitely Ossur to spread this around. So now more women won’t find any need to get married and be Oiver the Issur in S’A!
You’re just contridicting yourself.
bezalelParticipantYou can try sending a FOIA request to the FCC to get their frequency, but that would only work if their license is as a primary service.
The best way to find it is to scan the entire band until you hear their tranmissions (or buy a guide from someone who has already done so).
bezalelParticipantWhat about marriages where the couple doesn’t get a marriage license for insuranse and welfare reasons?
bezalelParticipantPopa – Whats with these threads you are starting tonight?
PBA, is this another one of your Motza’ay Shabbos ideas?
I think it’s the Havdalah Wine.
bezalelParticipantbut my son’s bike doesn’t have a place to attach anything.
There is always a way to attach a basket, it might not accept the same type of basket you husband has but there are companies that specialize in attachment hardware for hard to fit bikes.
put his hat in a shopping bag and hang it on the handles,
Not a good idea. Loose weight hanging from the handlebars can make a bike difficult to control, also it can get pulled into the front wheel.
bezalelParticipant600k: Why mention Rubashkin?
June 17, 2011 6:24 pm at 6:24 pm in reply to: Kula Creep – The Creation and Use of Non-Existent "Kula's" #779668bezalelParticipantAs a rov in the USA R’ Moshe was careful to only pasken for the USA. It is left to competant poskim to determine if his rulings can be applied elsewhere.
June 17, 2011 12:12 am at 12:12 am in reply to: What is wrong with selling shul to Buddhist? #778735bezalelParticipantI am certain Rabbi Meles did not approve the sale of his shul to Buddhists. So who did?
From the Jewish Exponent (Which I have no intention of linking to):
According to Young Israel’s by-laws, if a congregation can no longer support a daily minyan — something Oxford Circle hasn’t been able to do for some time now — the synagogue property is supposed to revert to the national organization.
“It’s unfortunate,” said Rabbi Pesach Lerner, executive vice president of the National Council of Young Israel.
Lerner said it’s rare that the national council has actually had to take such a step. He added that the fate of the building has not yet been decided, but acknowledged that selling it is indeed a possibility.
bezalelParticipantHow can agnosticism be Avodah Zarah?
bezalelParticipantI find it very hard to believe that any posek would be so callous as to, in effect, tell a newly grieving widow that it’s her fault her brand-new husband died.
That’s why sentance structure is so important.
bezalelParticipantIs this what you mean by Section 1983?
Every person who under color of any statute, ordinance, regulation, custom, or usage, of any State or Territory or the District of Columbia, subjects, or causes to be subjected, any citizen of the United States or other person within the jurisdiction thereof to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured by the Constitution and laws, shall be liable to the party injured in an action at law, Suit in equity, or other proper proceeding for redress, except that in any action brought against a judicial officer for an act or omission taken in such officer’s judicial capacity, injunctive relief shall not be granted unless a declaratory decree was violated or declaratory relief was unavailable. For the purposes of this section, any Act of Congress applicable exclusively to the District of Columbia shall be considered to be a statute of the District of Columbia.

In some communities it takes alot less.
June 14, 2011 2:50 am at 2:50 am in reply to: why is it fair for a younger daughter to have to wait for the older daughter? #776320bezalelParticipantapushatayid:
I don’t know, I was just reponding to your previous post.
bezalelParticipantWhy would you need a thread mill? are you doing so much threading that you can’t use an ordinary tap?
bezalelParticipantI have always heard R’ Velvel referred to as “The Brisker Rov” and R’ Y. B. Soleveitchik as “The Rav”.
R’ Velvel is referred to as “The Brisker Rov” but generally not by his talmidim, they would refer to him as “The Rov” (this wasn’t a unique title for R’ Velvel). To add to the confusion R’ Yehoshua Leib Diskin was also referred to as “The Brisker Rav”.
bezalelParticipantIt is true that chords only work for string and keyboard instruments.
There are a number of other instrumens that can play chords but the only wind instument thay I can think of is a harmonica.
June 12, 2011 11:26 pm at 11:26 pm in reply to: why is it fair for a younger daughter to have to wait for the older daughter? #776299bezalelParticipantI dobt know what Rabbanim say about younger sisters marrying before older, but, is Lavan a legitimate source for anything?
I don’t recall the meforshim saying that Lavan was lieing about the local costoms.
June 12, 2011 11:16 pm at 11:16 pm in reply to: please pass along; cars being TOWED from toys r us parking lot!! #1017301bezalelParticipantI’m going to start calling tow trucks every time people block my driveway.
I don’t think you can do that. If a car is parked in your driveway you can have it towed (there may be signage requirements) but if it is on the street than it is up to the police to tow it (if they choose to).
June 6, 2011 3:34 am at 3:34 am in reply to: How much davening do you say from the siddur, how much by heart? #774952bezalelParticipantI read that Vilna Gaon emphasized the need to read the Shema from the Siddur rather than to say it by heart. This from a man who had a photographic memory of Gemara. I assume the reason he insisted on this is the chance that we could unintentionally leave out or misremember passages we have been saying since we were small.
Or it might be because the text of Shema isn’t in the Gemara.
bezalelParticipantThis shouldn’t be about me. It should be about her getting married.
Hee hee.
Why should someone that doesn’t trust you accept your advice?
bezalelParticipantWhats the most reliable hechser for a Kosher phone? I want to make sure my phone is accepted by all major poskim…
Since when does kashrus depend on “all major poskim”? If your LR says it can be used, that should be enough.
bezalelParticipantIt sounds like someone published a photo of Hilary Clinton.
bezalelParticipantOk sac, I switched the ratatouille with green beans. Now, I am making the ratatouille for Shabbos. Approved?
Ratatouille? It’s a peasant dish.
bezalelParticipantI can’t do anything about the past. I would, however, like to know what the policy is going forward.
*All rules are subject to change without notice.
bezalelParticipantIIRC it is a wine/grape juice issue and not an alchohol issue
bezalelParticipantDMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) generally protects websites from liability on account of user posted material.
When the content belongs to the website they are no longer just an “Online Service Providor”
bezalelParticipantCoffee room rules say:
Anything you submit becomes the property of YWN.
IANAL but such a policy could put YWN in legal trouble if a user posts copyrighted material.
bezalelParticipantWhen RAv a av Shraga Feivel founded the yeshiva he didn’t want it to be leaned towards either way.
Actually he wasn’t a founder of the yeshiva. He was living in Scranton when the yeshiva was founded and joined the yeshiva 3 years later.
bezalelParticipantWithout brains we wouldn’t know that the sum of the square roots of any two sides of an isosceles triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side.
bezalelParticipantHow many troy ounces?
Each bar is 1/2 ounce according to the mailing I got. Even more confusing is that it says a pound of gold but 12 1/2 bars is only a half pound.
bezalelParticipantThe word is “copacetic” and it derives from the Hebrew expression “hakol b’seder,” the response of an Israeli fighter (so I heard) to an American query to him as to how the situation was going.
The origin of copacetic may be hakol b’seder but I don’t think Israel had fighters during World War I.
bezalelParticipantAre we discussing the Kallah or her sisters, friends, etc.
bezalelParticipantAnd the Latin word suffixus comes from…
Suf in Latin is a variation of sub, it is changed to suf when followed by another f.
bezalelParticipantWhat do you think latin is based on?
Proto-Indo-European
bezalelParticipantI recall a ??”?, I think, which discussed a baby which had fallen into a pot of beer.
And their concern was whether the beer is kosher?
bezalelParticipantActually suffix comes from the latin word suffixus.
May 22, 2011 8:52 pm at 8:52 pm in reply to: Con Edison is offering a free programmable thermostat worth $300 -Any downside? #768976bezalelParticipantHere are some entries from ConEd’s FAQ page.
Q: Will Con Edison turn off my air conditioner?
A: No. We will only cycle the compressor on and off. Your fan will continue to operate and you may not even notice that your air conditioner has been adjusted.
Q: When will Con Edison adjust my air-conditioning?
A: Typically, the adjustment will not last longer than five hours. And you can override the adjustment if you need to.
Q: How will Con Edison adjust my air-conditioning system?
A: We will send a radio signal page to your thermostat to cycle your compressor off and on. Con Edison will not shut off your central air conditioner. Your fan will continue to operate, so that air can continue to circulate, and you may not feel a temperature change.
Q: How will I know that my air conditioner has been adjusted?
Q: How warm will my place get?
A: You may not even notice that your air conditioner has been adjusted. At most, the temperature may increase three or more degrees. After the curtailment event, your temperature will quickly return to its set temperature.
Q: How do I override Con Edison’s adjustment?
A: You simply use the temperature down adjustment button which is the lower of the two buttons located on the far bottom right of the thermostat. Press the down button until the curtailment message that appears on your thermostat disappears and you will no longer be under the Con Edison adjustment.
bezalelParticipantwhat abt moishas??? (flatbush)
Moisha’s Kosher Discount Supermarket, Inc.
what about Goldbergs?
G & G Foods and Dairy, Inc.
bezalelParticipantI am afraid that it may give them the wrong message.
You’re probably right.
