HaLeiVi: Latin!?
berntoutParticipantBecause the idea of proposing that way, as a token of respect, is an offshoot of genuflection. One came about from the other.
berntoutParticipantVM: That’s a silly question. Obviously the OP is asking if there’s hope for such a person to get out of this terrible addiction and all its negative consequences. How does being able to fulfill an otherwise fulfilling life despite having an atrocious problem solve anything?
berntoutParticipantrebdoniel: The same sources you are talking about that say one can’t be paid for learning, also say a yeshiva rebbi and a congregation rov cannot be paid. So you’ll have to take that position too if you don’t want to be hypocritical. But in any event the Rama brings an opinion that the custom is that Torah scholars do benefit from their learning, by support from the community. The Shach there says that is what we pasken as. The Rama also brings other opinions that the community should support its Torah scholars even to the point of affluence!
berntoutParticipantSaying yene machla is to avoid an ayin hora. If someone chas vshalom had HIV, would they be cavalier and open about sharing that info? Very doubtful. Theyd find some other euphemism in describing having some form of illness.

So theres a very large difference in severity in this toeiva and others like kashrus. And we should oppose kashrus and other toeiva violations as well.
berntoutParticipantBurnt Steak: Thats a worse solution then the problem itself. Having a gf is an issur doraysa and it may lead to much much worse things. That is a horrible idea in every way.
