bas kolParticipant
putting aside the sheila of being allowed to daven in a nontznius’dige place, isn’t there a question of attracting unnecessary attention from the goyim?
It’s a question i’ve had for a while already..a jew isn’t supposed to unduly arouse unwanted attention in front of goyim..
I know u might answer that the blacks can have no problem reading ‘psalms’ on the train, or the muslims can read the koran..but jews can’t pray?
Correct me if i’m wrong..i was in Venice some time ago with a group of friends, and right there in the middle of a street, e/o stopped and davened Mincha!! Passerby stared google eyed!! I thought it was inappropriate and decided not to daven mincha at all that day..
Is a train any different?
bas kolParticipantPosting such a sign in shuls and other places..sadly, does it serve the purpose??
Is there no way of promoting Tznius in a POSITIVE way, instead of constant admonition?? It’s human nature not to be receptive to negativity…
bas kolParticipantKudos to you suraschier
bas kolParticipantAre ppl openly criticising you and speaking badly about you? Like do u know for a fact?
The reason i’m asking is cuz’ ppl usually don’t mean to be mean or critical. I don’t know ur community and so i’m not judging.
But you seem to KNOW that u r different than ur community, so perhaps it’s ur conscience that makes u feel that others are looking down at you?
I truly hope u don’t take this in a bad way, but maybe it’s some food for thought.
bas kolParticipantI don’t know if the slit thingy has a mekor or not but let me explain the point:
It doesn’t matter if the skirt is perfectly tznius and the slit doesn’t come over the knee..the point is that it’s ATTRACTIVE nontheless. It attracts the movement of the legs.
Same with the other issues you bought up. perfume – if someone is heavily perfumed no doubt about it, ppl in the street will turn around for another glimpse..
And bright colored clothing easily catches the eye.
Just like in Mitzrayim the yidden were saved bezchus the nashim, same holds true for the upcoming geula (may it come speedily). Women have such a special tafkid and chiyuv..why r we arguing about mekoros?? When it comes to laws of tznius, not everything is written in black and white. You need to use a good deal of judgement. Besides there ARE plenty of books with excellent mekoros out there..
