Apparently true stories abound of lost Yidden coming back, inspired by a lone Menorah they saw.

Some of us still wear masks in Baltimore. Yes I know the joke about it. But the mask shaming is prevalent here and noticeably worse in NJ and NY. I’m just not sure how many people’s minds are going to change based on a CR discussion.

That may be going too far.

    Mr. Noodle:

Noone said they should be locked up.
Well, some said it but I didn’t.
It’s the huge amounts of money going to lawyers and probably to bribe people that is questionable. Political pressure usually seems the best route.
My question was strictly regarding tzedoka obligation and discretionary division of resources.

Of course everyone feels different when it’s personal. That’s why the Chassidic masters would go into a self imposed golus, to feel the pain and closeness to every single Jew.

I’m not on that level. If I gave to every cause as if it were my own kids, I’d run out of tzedoka funds in one day. Our fiduciary obligation is to give 10 dollars to each of 1000 meshulachim, not to gave 10,000 to one. That’s basic tzedoka halocha.

Of course it’s not our tzedoka money.
It’s money Hashem entrusted to us to give to worthy causes.
    That was the question.
If you were president of a huge tzedoka and owed a fiduciary duty to the organization, would this be a top priority as opposed to the thousands of others competing for your attention and disbursement?
    Nothing snide was intended.

In Maryland, to marry without parental consent, a person must be at least 18 years old. If one of the parties is 16 or 17 years old, the parties may marry with parental consent. Under 16 there are exceptions which don’t apply to frum people.

Shalosh seudos does include all 3. See Torah Temima on the relevant possuk. The Gemora explains that by eating 3 seudos on Shabbos we are saved from 3 types of tzaar, namely the war of Gog and Magog, the fire of Gehinom and the birthpangs of Moshiach.

He says that Leil Shabbos we don’t really get schar because we are so hungry. Same for Shabbos day seuda. But SS, especially in the winter, is difficult and since we put ourselves through tzaar, Hashem saves us from tzaar.

AAQ – “Novordok innovated dressing up yeshiva boys as if they were talmidei chachamim already”

Not. The gemora states that Yosi went off the derech and they dressed him in the cloak of a Talmud Chochom and called him Rebbe and that turned him around. Not an innovation any more.

You are so wrong. I have tremendous ahavas Yisroel. Why not throw stones while in your glass house? The Medina is petrified of the Chareidim becoming the majority. That’s poshut. I stand corrected. Upon investigation, Rav Moshe Heinemann would personally allow it although not in agudah or anywhere where there is a standard of kashrus. Although lhalacha he holds like reb moshe, he also feels like reb moshe writes that its מכוער הדבר to serve something which proudly displays on the bottle that it contains something not kosher

Rav Moshe Heinemann and Star K are NOT mattir sherry cask. Almost all genuine kashrus organizations are NOT mattir. There are kosher sherry cask whiskey ms available. Badatz in EY Eidann and some in the USA as well. Saying Stam that Tav Moshe Feinstein was mattir is also am haaratzus.

Chassidim learn the exact same chumash with Rashi and Ohr Hachaim as everyone else. Exact same mishnayos with Bartenura. Same gemora Rashi Tosafos. Same Shulchan Aruch. Chassidim also have Shulchan Aruch HaRav and many different minhogim but 99 percent is identical. They keep Shabbos and Yuntiv.
Mir and BMG many other yeshivas have numerous Chassidim.
You will find huge Talmidei Chachomim in the Chassidishe community. Many have learned in Litvishe yeshivas as the Chassidishe yeshivas were not fully up and running after the War.
Don’t forget that Meir Shapiro was a Tchortkover Chossid.
Some Chassidus emphasize bekiyus over iyyun.

I agree. This is sarcastic: smoking doesn’t kill. We don’t need to stop. It’s freedom and independence to smoke and drink. Its my right. Its a leftist conspiracy to take over and control the country. Maybe a few people died, long ago, from smoking but the danger is over now. Get it?

Although not directly on point, as I don’t believe that the Gemora deals with the question of recalcitrant witnesses directly, the Gemora does say in Sanhedrin 46a right before the mishna, that Beis din can give malkus and onshin including death, when necessary. One case was a guy who was riding a horse on Shabbos (d’Rabbonon) and another case was PDA (public display of affection)

Floyd’s family commissioned a second autopsy, carried out by Michael Baden, a pathologist and former New York City chief medical examiner who had autopsied Eric Garner,[72][73] and attended by Allecia Wilson, director of autopsy and forensic services at the University of Michigan Medical School.[74][75] He found that the “evidence is consistent with mechanical asphyxia as the cause of Floyd’s death”, and that the death was a homicide.[76][77][74] He said Floyd died from “asphyxia due to compression of the neck”, affecting “blood flow and oxygen going into the brain”, and also from “compression of the back, which interferes with breathing”.[65] He said Floyd had no underlying medical problem that caused or contributed to his death, and that being able to speak does not mean that someone is able to breathe.[78]

On the topic of kichel, and at the risk of creating a huge machlokes, I would like to state my preference for very thin Kichel with my Shtiglitz herring on Shabbos. I’ve searched and tried many types of herring. The thinnest ones ove found are in Eretz Yisroel. There is always a balance between the thinness and the possibility that the Kichel will break off in the herring container of course. Oh – I should mention that herring always tastes better when eaten directly from the container as opposed to putting it on a plate.
