January 2, 2009 4:26 am at 4:26 am in reply to: You Know You’ve Been Spending Too Much Time in The YWN Coffee Room When…. #1119348Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantthanks, intellegent
i think youre right. our new year was 3 months ago.
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantamram and yocheved had pretty valid reasons if you ask me.
but when miriam tells her father, the gadol hador, that he has to get back together with his wife, he realizes that no matter what the situation, we have to trust that everything will be okay. the entire am yisroel followed amram, it wasnt just him, when he got back together with yocheved.
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantyou know, i was wondering if there would be one of those people that would go, “i told you so….!”
January 1, 2009 6:33 pm at 6:33 pm in reply to: Obedience – Is It Good Or Bad? (For College Work) #629470Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantperfect example bklyn19. KIE, you should definitely use it
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantmango-girl, (ive come to accept that i was wrong–i find that easier ever since i joined YWN!)
sometimes it is worth it to pull an all-nighter (unless it’s used to post on YWN). but sometimes you have to be the judge and tell yourself, it’s okay if i only get a ____% and not a ____%. and instead use the extra time for some other work. you have to choose between subjects, dont put all your energy into one topic/subject and leave no room for another. unless it’s vitally important for you to do extremely well in everything.
because, like oomis1105 said, it’s temporary and your grades probably won’t affect your entire life/future ( but dont go and get 65s!! lol)
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantno, but maybe by davening really hard! lol.
“al tehi sikva…u’tishaber, u’simager….”
January 1, 2009 6:08 pm at 6:08 pm in reply to: Obedience – Is It Good Or Bad? (For College Work) #629467Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantwas that the study about the people who had to administer electric shocks to people who answered questions wrongly? i learned that in one of my psych classes….
in this case, bad: because inflicting pain, every time answer=wrong, the shock gets stronger (25-400 volts), and since they really believe theyre torturing someone, because they hear someone screaming, i would consider them animals. if i remember correctly, 70% of these administrators of the shocks kept going and didnt refuse to shock someone.
other cases, theyre all dependent on what kind of situation it is!
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantacharei rabim l’hatos, Joseph
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantexactly, but you also won’t get a panicked feeling or be scared BECAUSE you know it’s the best thing for you. if you’re about to crash into another car, your heart wont start to pound because instinctively, you know that this is the best for you. that would make you a true ba’al bitachon. thats why i mentioned before that bitachon can take years to develop.
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantagreed
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantfeif un, bitachon is in essence not only knowing that whatever Hashem is doing id=s for your best, but also never being nervous or afraid of anything BECAUSE of this knowledge. this can take a few years. the intellectual and emotional part of you clash, and its hard to reconcile both of them.
postsemgirl:
i dont think sem is brainwashing. i think sem is a strong influence on the right things. brainwashing=negative, so why would we go to seminary?
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantim outta here
January 1, 2009 5:40 am at 5:40 am in reply to: You Know You’ve Been Spending Too Much Time in The YWN Coffee Room When…. #1119340Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantwhen youre answering posts minute by minute and start wondering after 2 minutes where your posts went. mods??
January 1, 2009 5:31 am at 5:31 am in reply to: You Know You’ve Been Spending Too Much Time in The YWN Coffee Room When…. #1119339Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantlol. join the club
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantwho’s “their?” seminary cottage cheese i dont know about, but in general israeli cottage cheese–everything is different about it–the texture, the taste…its the best. you want a specific place?? lol
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipanti know i still cant believe it…strange moment.
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipant*ahem* myself being a young lady, i still voted that Mango is a guy.
i took ap psych last year, which is basically intro to psych. it could go either way really depending on how you interpret a mango.
that sounded weird. who ever heard of interpreting mangos lol
January 1, 2009 5:24 am at 5:24 am in reply to: You Know You’ve Been Spending Too Much Time in The YWN Coffee Room When…. #1119336Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantlol no i crashed because i wasnt getting any sleep and because i wasnt handing in any work on time, which is very unlike me.
i mentioned in another post…i followed the rambams advice and went to the opposite extreme. no YWN for a week! glad THATS over 🙂
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipanthm maybe when i get back from sem ill change my user name to “Kallak Maydel”
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantdespite the so-far majority, i still believe mango is a guy.
thanks Joseph for pointing out the key phrases lol
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipanti cant believe what i just did. i actually got up and looked out the window. this should be on the “you know youre spending too much time in the ywn cr when….”
anyway i dont see anything its too dark. is it snowing? are there fireworks? lol
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantbeacon, im guessing you live in the city?
bklyn, just let us know iyH when it does happen, anything else you should probably keep for yourself lol.
and for the record, im probably younger than any of you posting on this thread.
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipanthm good question…is it more of a guys type to use mango as a username or more of a girls type?
who wants to analyze it.
or maybe for convenience’s sake lets jusk ask. mango?
January 1, 2009 5:09 am at 5:09 am in reply to: You Know You’ve Been Spending Too Much Time in The YWN Coffee Room When…. #1119333Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantyou guessed right, qwertyuiop, nice to have you on board when did you join?
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantwell sem is not exactly known for having the best food lol im being very selective in where im applying…lol jk
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantnope im in my last yr of hs lol. maybe i dont know you. i was there ages ago, when i was very very little
January 1, 2009 5:01 am at 5:01 am in reply to: You Know You’ve Been Spending Too Much Time in The YWN Coffee Room When…. #1119331Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantwhen you crash and dont go onto YWN for a week and find yourself wondering how youre managing without YWN…and when you finally get back on when you finally have some spare time when you finally have a day off–happy new years e/o and hi again–
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipanton a serious note, since you sound like a serious guy, asked a serious question and probably want a serious answer, i would say get rid of your user name, get rid of your membership on YWN, and if you dont, at least stay the way you were before; no posting, only reading.
that aside…
-you have to pace yourself. you may have heard this a bunch of times, because its the only way.
-dont procrastinate. if you really wanna get down to business, and you sound like you do, it’ll be easier for you to find the spare time in between classes, on your lunch break, stuck in traffic etc. to study, review…
gl!
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipanti knew it.
i guess i would call myself noitallms?
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantjbells, whats with your user name
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantgetting heated in here…
maybe we should focus our desires for explosions on people like those hamas leaders and followers in the ME and not each other lol
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantya ive seen you around–the one with the big yellow cap that had daffy duck on it? next time around, ill be sure to tip you for your amazing work
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantbeacon, ive never heard of “hating” a word lol but if you listen to yourself say the sentence out loud, it will sound ridiculous. i guess typing it is different 🙂
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantdont get me started on cottage cheese. since i dont know where you live anymore :), ill just say that you havta try out the israeli cottage cheese, i remember you saying youre gonna be there soon. nothing like it, you havta try it out
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantdifferent strokes for different folks.
for some people, sports is one of the few “kosher” outlets. for some people, sports is not kosher to begin with.
you decide what level youre on.
i think its pathetic when yeshiva boys come home just to watch the superbowl [IT HAPPENS] not just because of the definitely-not-kosher-ads, but also because sports for many boys is an obsession, and i think an obsession with anything is PURE AVODAH ZARA. an obsession with a player, or a team, is an insane idea. it doesnt make sense logically, when you think about it. the only obsession we should be having is with Torah and limud haTorah.
btw, were not talking addiction here. different story for a differnet thread.
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantbklyn both of those are grammatically correct actually. i think you menat to write
too much oily foods
or
too many oily food.
im a stickler for much and many, i drive my friends crazy although i dont see why adults should still be talking like kindergarteners (how much cookies did you eat today?)
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantinst spring valley in baltimore? i have friends in that school.
weather related:
–“Don’t knock the weather; nine-tenths of the people couldn’t start a conversation if it didn’t change once in a while.” -Kin Hubbard
–All good books are alike in that they are truer than if they had really happened and after you are finished reading one you will feel that all that happened to you and the afterwards it all belongs to you; the good and the bad, the ecstasy, the remorse, and sorrow, the people and places and how the weather was. -Ernest Hemingway
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantthanks asdfghjkl 🙂
btw, where do you think ger, bobov, belz came from???
Ba’al Shem Tov—-Maaggid miMezeritch—-R’ Elimelech miLishensk—Chozeh miLublin—Yid HaKadosh—the Kotzker Rebbe……….from the Noam Elimelech miLishensk branched out all these different kinds of chassidus.
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantmods, didnt see #2 on page 1-if my previous post was considered negative, please delete it but dont close the thread. agreed, deleted. YW Moderator-72
Passaic: excellent yeshivah, top rate learning and top rate bochurim, the R’Y (R’__Stern?) is great from what i hear. should definitely be an option!
considered more to the yeshivish side
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantBLAH BLAH:
i actually was just in vermont lol, were you there also?
has anybody ever heard of the Jewish community in Pinsk?
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantyou know i really like hearts of palm.
and sweet potato sushi. and anything else sweet potato for that matter.
and pickles but only the crunchy ones (dills are always crunchy!)–and israeli pickles–not the canned ones though
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantim getting confused between asdfghjkl and lkjhgfdsa.
that was fun lol
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantlittle bit if advice, surprisingly useful VERY often: check the ticket that it has the correct date and your name is spelled right…many times the cops dont get it right, happened to someone i know and she got off, happened to my sister also for the wrong date and she got off.
im not stating an opinion on whether or not we should fight tickets, this is just for all those out there who dont mind trying to get off the hook 🙂
–ALSO if youre using a munimeter, check where you put the ticket…i by mistake just put it on the dashboard when it was upside down without noticing….got my first(and so far only lol) ticket that way.
oh and no cops are put on rainy or bad weather days
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantive noticed that just waiting around for 3 minutes on a block will yield a parking spot! someone is bound to leave any minute, especially if its a busy street. its worth the wait, otherwise youll circle around and find that someone else already grabbed the spot
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantthanks! its a great idea
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantwow after reading all these, ill reveal that i was in raninu once upon a time……but really long ago.
anyway, back to the point of this thread, AGUDAH TORONTO is probably your best bet. amazing, everything about it, from campers to STAFF especially to the Blausteins….
not at all materialistic, very out-of-town-ish
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantthank you jphone that is very helpful.
i agree with oomis1105 i havent been on in a few days and i felt i had to check up on the CR now just to see peoples reactions, talk about things anonymously…if used in the right way it can help
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantis 32 days later after Mumbai when the Rav from Yemen was killed, HYD?
Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantbklyn19, it wasnt eichlers:) nice try though
