Most Popular Poster – ZeesKite (9/10)
BaalHaboozeParticipantAm I the only one seeing little tiny pink polka-dotted elephants dancing around my screen?
BaalHaboozeParticipantFITT- are u sure I rank a 2 in the popularity catagory and not the intelligent catagory??
I think ZeesKite ranks at least a 9 in popularity. In sanity however….
jk 🙂
BaalHaboozeParticipantI think I will also donate $1 million to the Hurricane Sandy victims, just like this Rechnitz guy from California….
BaalHaboozeParticipantZees- “I’m just wondering, are my posts from the half that you do open?”
You are in some threads that I do open. Regarding the threads that I do NOT open, however, I wouldn’t know, would I? 🙂
BaalHaboozeParticipantI think we sometimes have bits of ga’avahdig feelings and unhealthy thoughts. Beware – it is the yeitzer hara no doubt!!!
Yes, it’s always nice and a good feeling if someone responds to your post, but if there ISN’T a response to your post, we usually tend to think negative thoughts, and perceive this as a blow to our ego. The Y”H gets us all worked up, and we take it very PERSONALLY – thoughts such as “hey, nobody likes me, or my posts?!” or “am I so unintelligent that I got not one response to my last post??” or “I guess I’m not as hilarious/intelligent/popular as I think I am”
But in reality, it could very well be either:
1)Nobody saw the post. (I don’t open half the threads in the CR.)
2)people saw it, enjoyed it and left it at that. We don’t ALWAYS comment.
3)We got too busy we didn’t have time to post.
Etc. Etc. Etc.
BaalHaboozeParticipantCan you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street?

That’s a great kasha that bothered me for years. I will quote to you this vort that was in Parsha Potpourri 2010 by R’ Oizer Alport:
BaalHaboozeParticipantBravo, postsemgirl! Bravo!
We looooved the Mitzva Tree records/tapes growing up! I sometimes tell my kids the story of Noami (who did not like to pack away her toys.) They love it!

Reb Shimshon of Ostropol says a cute vort. We say every day in davening ???? ???????, and the word ???? is Gematria 677. There were 3 Malachim who were constantly helping the ????. They were ????? ?????? and ???????. These 3 malachim were the ???? of the Ovos. As a matter of fact the gematria of ????? ?????? and ??????? is , you guessed it, 677! The pasuk says that Yaakov sent malachim/messengers to Eisav. Rash”i says these messengers were ?????? ???. The letters in the word ??? can stand for these 3 malachim, ????? ?????? and ???????.
BaalHaboozeParticipant“There once was an alef that went for a walk,
he met Beis and Veis and they had a little talk”

here’s a nice vort by Rabbi Frand from torah.org
Where did this Tzadik, Yaakov, go after he left Beer Sheva? Our Sages say that he went to study for 14 years in the Yeshiva of Shem and Ever. This is a strange thing. Until now, Yaakov has also been sitting and learning. Now it is time to go — time to go into exile. So what does he do? He goes and sits and learns literally day and night for another 14 years!
Rav Yaakov Kamenetsky says that Yaakov had something to learn, and that is why he had to go to the Yeshiva of Shem and Ever. We all know that the holy patriarchs had their own schools of learning. The Talmud [Yoma 28b] says that our patriarchs constantly had their own Yeshivas. But, nevertheless Yaakov had something specific to gain from the Yeshiva of Shem and Ever. What was it?
Shem was the one who withstood the Generation of the Flood. He had a “special Torah” to teach — the Torah of how to exist in a hostile society, one filled with theft and immorality and corruption. Ever was the one who withstood the heresy of the Generation of the Dispersion (at the Tower of Babel). He, too, had a special Torah to teach.
So now, when Yaakov knew that he was going into Exile, to live with the deceitful Lavan, he had to learn a “different Torah” than he had learned with his father and his grandfather. He had to learn how a Jew survives in Exile, outside the Land of Israel. That is why he had to go to the Yeshiva of Shem and Ever.
Rash”i cites that all that Yaakov learned in the Yeshiva of Shem and Ever he gave over to Yosef. It was this Torah of how a Jew exists in a hostile society, that Yaakov had to give to Yosef, specifically. For Yosef also went down to a hostile environment (Egypt). He, too, needed this “special Torah.”

BaalHaboozeParticipant“the abolition of the Tal Law and the ongoing nationwide effort to pull avreichim from beis medrash to serve in the IDF will lead to warfare against us”
This is what Rav Amnon Yitzchak says is the cause of the war. Is this guy to be taken seriously? I don’t know him, just hear of his impressive kiruv successes. Is he sefardi or ashkenazi?

Q. Lavan switches the kallah Rochel and puts Leah under the chuppah. Very clever Lavan, indeed, very sly and slick. One problem about this whole scheme, Lavan. It’s a mekach ta’us. So Yaakov doesn’t remain married to Leah anyways, if his intention was to marry Rochel?! So from Lavan’s point of view, what was his cheshbon??
Q. From Leah’s perspective, how in the world did SHE get caught up in her father’s cunning ways and agree to go along with the plan, AT THE EXPENSE OF HER BELOVED SISTER, ROCHEL THE KALLAH?!

Thought of 2 questions last night:
Q.#1 Why is Yaakov, the greatest of the Ovos, and one who lived a life of kedusha every second, called Yaakov (“he who holds the heel”) just because he held onto Esav’s heel when he was coming out of his mother’s womb?
Q.#2 Why was it necessary for Yitzchok to make a peace treaty with Avimelech, if Avrohom made one with him already for himself and their FOR THEIR CHILDREN?
BaalHaboozeParticipantWhy am I seeing so many repeats in this thread

BaalHaboozeParticipantA gut Chodesh! May this month of Kislev usher in an abundance of shefa bracha, and the geula shelayma. With the war in E”Y in full force, I’d say a good refreshing, cold cup of yeshuos and a moshiach to go with it, would be nice. eh?

BaalHaboozeParticipantso i lost this bet to start some stupid random thread, called it “Post to Post -NOT”, and what d’ya know?? 4 months later – 200 posts!!! Hilarious!

BaalHaboozeParticipantMy kid made a havdala place mat which we hold the candle over. otherwise I make havdala on beer, grapejuice, or wine in my siver kiddush becher over a plastic plate, and whole cloves straight off the grocery shelf for besomim.
Although we received a havdala set by my chasuna, my wife isn’t interested in polishing more silver, so we don’t use it. Which is totally fine with me.
BaalHaboozeParticipantuh…..he’s a mammal. Does that count? I think that’s good….no?
November 12, 2012 3:23 pm at 3:23 pm in reply to: Awkward Situation with Sensitive Information #907022BaalHaboozeParticipantrebdoniel- I agree with the previous posts. There are nebach too many cases where people with serious illnesses and medical conditions did not disclose their medical status to their spouse until it was revealed only AFTER they got married. Which of course presents a terrible situation for the healthy partner, and most likely ends up with unhealthy feelings i.e. being cheated and deceited).
Having said that, these rumors are extremely serious allegations, and you better make sure they are true. Because if they are false rumors, it could prove to be soooo embarrassing.
Hatzlacha!
BaalHaboozeParticipantThat was another beautiful piece MiddlePath, and I always enjoy reading your threads with these type of lessons. After reading this one, I was thinking along the lines of what it must feel like for a tzaddik who would be living among a group of rashaim, knowing that he would be punished along with the whole city.
My son came home the other day from school somewhat distraught, explaining that his class was punished that day because MOST of the boys misbehaved terribly, and he didn’t, yet he was punished along with the whole group.
Although on a greater scale of punishment of course, Avrohom felt and hurt so terribly for the “innocent” citizens, who didn’t deserve to be destroyed, exactly how I felt for my son who was punished undesrvedly.

Nor do I know about all the other sects of chassidus on that list! That’s one reason I would like such a chart, so that I have some inkling about all the different sects and their history/origin.
BaalHaboozeParticipantHey JayMatt19, perhaps you can be mehaneh us with eppis a verttel in the “CR nightly-dvar-torah” sticky thread? I miss reading your nice shticklech torah that you used to post. Why waste a good hurricane for nothing, afterall, it was all for you 🙂
