Toi – if you are not a mod, then GET OUT OF HERE!!! Who are YOU to accuse publicly and embarrass another jew???! Phoooy! Your comment disgusted me! How can you say that and still call yourself a yid?! I hope you ask mechila b’rabim from coreytothecup, and then flee this site and never come back!! Mods, how on earth does such a comment go through undetected? Toi, if you are a moderator then please handle this in private!
For the record, coreytothecup has done absolutely no wrong nor harm. Each and every thread he started were legitimate and enjoyable. We welcome ANY jew and person that wishes to grow and ask on any relative topic of discussion as long as it exists within the realm per traditional yiddishkeit. By all means, every member here is given the benefit of the doubt of being legit, sincere, normal. The CR has moderators to screen this site, and if they feel someone is lurking mischievously causing trouble, they should be competent enough to handle the situation. NO ONE HAS THE RIGHTS TO ACCUSE ANY OTHER MEMBER HERE! If someone has a problem let them forward it to the mods.
coretothecup, please don’t let any stupid demeaning comment such as the one above stop you from continuing to post, and enjoy this site. You are a perfectly normal member, and we welcome you with open arms and want you to continue to bring up interesting issues we can discuss. I am sorry everyone about this rant but I could not contain myself and felt I had to say something!
BaalHaboozeParticipantI hear what you are saying real-brisker, and I, too, purposely DON’T buy this product, and actually ENJOY getting dirty putting my neiros together myself. Same concept as building your own sukkah. instead of hiring others to put it up for you. There is such value and importance in sweating and doing it yourself when it’s for a mitzvah!
I am one of those clumsy, 2 left feet, un-geshikteh people out there but when my children see Tatty putting up a sukkah and doing mitzvos MYSELF, even though it is hard (and sometimes embarrassing) they are priceless lessons my children will learn. Not to mention Hashem’s nachas He reaps from us working hard to do the best we can to fulfill His mitzvos.
All that said, these pre-done neiros ARE convenient when, say, you are going on a Chanuka trip, are in a rush, or for elderly people, etc. The product is not the bizayon, it’s WHO is using it and WHY.
BaalHaboozeParticipantBaalSechal – VERY nice!! That was a deep thought! The truth is that Malchus, rulership, is a middah that anyone can be koyneh. As Chazal tell us, that for a period of time, all that Shlomo HaMelech ruled over was his own walking stick. He was left with nothing but a cane, yet we are told he reigned over this cane. How do you ‘rule’ over a cane?! We see that Malchus is a Middah, not something dependent on having a palace, wealth or an army. And as you pointed out, Eisav could have been koyneh this middah to the highest level, even more than Yaakov, yet he failed.

During a recent password audit, it was found that a blonde was using the following password:
“MickeyMinniePlutoHueyLouieDeweyDonaldGoofySacramento.”
When asked why she had such a long password, she said she was told that it had to be at least 8 characters long and include at least one capital.
BaalHaboozeParticipantThank you for taking the time to post at this exciting time in your life. Mazel tov to you, and thank you for your beautiful words. May your chasuna be b’shah tova, with much happiness that will last your whole life long.
If I may, i would like to suggest a peice of advice that you can, either, totally ignore, or keep in you drawer.
Although you are engaged and will IY”H get married, please don’t take the nisyonos of these past few years, and just try to block the difficulties and depressing memories out of your head. Hopefully you have matured (as is witness to this beautiful thread), polished your middos, and grew strong from it. Down the road, others may come your way that are in a difficult, perhaps similar situation you have been in, and they’ll cry how they are at the verge of giving up. Thats when your dating years will come in as a positive ‘theropeutic’ remedy. You can use them as an effective ‘tool’ to sympathize, hear them out, and encourage them because you can RELATE to their pain. You know of their tzar better than others, because you’ve been down that road! You can be more sensitive than others. You can be more sympathetic than others. And IY”H be mechazek others with your lesson of never giving up hope for a yeshuah.
BaalHaboozeParticipantreal-brisker; let’s drop that topic, please. I think everyone here has moved on….
popa: LOL, my friend, the question, no matter how you answer it, will always be the greatest question ever.
And anyways, according to your logic, that the FIRST day was a neis TOO because there was some remaining oil, (which is a great ha’arah BTW) but then it would come out that the EIGHTH day wasn’t miraculous!! So you’re still left with a question why eight days and not seven?
To your second question, I have never heard that question before. What I did hear is why isn’t there a NINTH day ‘altz’ sefeika d’yoma?
p.s. do you really HATE the kasha, or did you write that to annoy me again 🙂
BaalHaboozeParticipantWhoa! I misread your title as “Anyone here scared of dieting?”
Now THAT’s a scary topic!! lol!!
BaalHaboozeParticipantThe B.Y.’s kasha has to be one of the greatest questions in the entire spectrum of traditional, jewish lore! I beleive there is a sefer out there exclusively on this one kasha, with about 100 or so answers.
BaalHaboozeParticipantyes, I agree aries2756 is certainly correct. The situation calls for your husband to be the one to take care of this. If he can’t, you can always say in a polite and friendly way ‘I don’t mean to be rude but I really need alone time with my husband as we need to discuss some personal things and besides it’s getting very late’ or s/t like that. There are many nice ways to say to a guest it’s time to leave, but with your “sensitive’ friend always add “we hope we see you again soon’ when he leaves. Hatzlacha.

You remind me of a friend, I used to have back in high school who would have that wild, creative imagination. Only differents between you and him is that he carried out all his dreams and actually DID everything he thought of. LOL. Lots of funny memories I have…

Q. How many drunken guys does it take to change a light bulb?
LOL…ok, ok, I admit I made that one up when I was falling asleep late last night. y’know when you’re tired and EVERYTHING is funny….?

There was once a guy named BaalHabooze
Who loved to drink and shmooze
He especially loved martinis on the rocks
But would wobble around in his socks
BaalHaboozeParticipant“on the rocks”
Here’s a little game with my subtitle I just thought of.
How many words can you come up with using the letters of my subtitle (at least 3-letter words). you can only use the letters as many times at it appears. There should be very many. Good Luck!
BaalHaboozeParticipantlol Goq, you never cease to put a smile on my face!! I’ll post one tomorrow, I’m too *high* right now….
*high up on the rocks that is…hehe
BaalHaboozeParticipantI guess you had enough “taking a break”, please don’t come back with a SN such as ‘officially retired’ or ‘something crazy like that 🙂
We’ll see you in a ‘different lifetime’. Bye now.
BaalHaboozeParticipantThis is so true, it hurts:
Question.
If a wheelchair athlete used WD40, would it be considered a performance enhancing substance?
BaalHaboozeParticipantThe Frumguy – You should have brought it up at the roundtable discussions, I’m sure you would have lit up the place by introducing this rare-discussed pressing topic that is troubling today’s yiddisheh society!!!
🙂
BaalHaboozeParticipantLOL, Goq you’re such a matziv! I love reading you’re posts! What would this place be without you!!!!

Always runs- You’re not alone on this one. I had a terrible time figuring out members here and conversations I had, and only got used to it after a year or so. i tried comparing members with people I know according to their personalities, humor, intellect. Good luck!

L’chaim Gumball, l’chaim
BaalHaboozeParticipantI so love this time of year
the leaves-sprinkled streets and cold autumn air
Am I the only one?
that is having so much fun
taking in life’s beauty, over a cold glass of beerhttp://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/
The colors of fall makes its theme
yellow, orange, and red, replacing green
my garden’s a delight to see
bedecked in the season’s finery
till my wife handed me a rake and said, “Go clean”
BaalHaboozeParticipantI’m guessing Shticky Guy, the Goq and coffee addict.
BaalHaboozeParticipantHave a great, peaceful, and enjoyable Shabbos y’all!
November 25, 2011 6:08 pm at 6:08 pm in reply to: Where is Gumball?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #936718BaalHaboozeParticipantI miss her bubbly personality and youthful posts.
-maybe her bubblegum bubble bursted!!!!
-maybe she’s grounded by her parents who fear she is literally addicted to coffee from hangin’ out here too often!!!
-maybe she’s just busy with her new nephew, Rumball!!!!
-maybe she’s part of that crowd in toys ‘r us on this Black Friday!!!
..I hope we didn’t lose our Gumball 🙁
BaalHaboozeParticipanthmmm…good question Goq. I think it’s when you don’t react to a situation on impulse and out of anger. Rather, you witness bad behavior, take a few seconds to calm down and conscioussly make an effort to handle the child in a rational and loving way. i.e. even if you petch it is done with ZERO anger and only as a lesson for the child- but the child has to KNOW that the petch is coming out of that love and not through anger.

-We stuff the turkey but in the end the turkey stuffs us.

BaalHaboozeParticipantblinky: love it!!
BaalHaboozeParticipantthank you so much littleapple, flowers, miritchka, chocandpatience2 for your advice, much appreciated!!
real israeli: that was great! My kids however are too young to write apology essays and are all under 7 yrs. But thank you for your post, and maybe it will come in handy one day.
aries2756: Thank you for your time to post all that, I read it and then reread it a second time. So poignant and practical! I already began yesterday lowering my voice and consciously held myself back from hitting and I’m trying to use words instead. It IS, as you said, a learning process for both the children and myself. Thank you again for your golden nuggets of wisdom on chinuch techniques!
BaalHaboozeParticipantPlease, I beg, stop the bashing! I get sick in my stomach when I read these petty fights and false accusations. c’mon guys, for heaven’s sake! riboinoy shel oilam! What was the major lesson last week here in the CR??? Innocent until proven guilty!
coreytothecup asked a perfectly legitimate question with no implied threats. I know of at least 3 women personally that needed hatzoloh and felt extremely uncomfortable and embarrassed when men SHE KNEW showed up. There are emergency situations that sometimes require sensitivity and concern beyond the actual call, and women volenteers would solve that issue. The OP began a thread which is perfectly fair and invites a peaceful hashkofic discussion as any other thread posted here. Let the MODS decide which posters are shady, that’s THEIR job. All you guys do by accusing others is stumbling on oinoas devorim etc. Please let us maintain our composure and if you don’t like a thread – stay away from it. May peace reign once again here in the CR.

BaalHaboozeParticipantPBA your post took a funny twist from shidduch crisis (no men) to crazy woman drivers……hmmmmm….you think there’s a connection?
😛
BaalHaboozeParticipantI’m sure if he reads these he will smile. MP and Shticky, if AYC returns you both get so much credit. Both of you put so much effort, emotion, and heart into all these AYC posts/threads throughout the CR. We all hope for him to return soon and post once again.
November 24, 2011 6:41 pm at 6:41 pm in reply to: Q: Why are there so many more lunatics around? A: Bluetooth Headsets! For sure! #829691BaalHaboozeParticipantI remember the first time I saw a guy with a bluetooth! At first we thought he was some ‘nebach’ guy with mental deficiencies. Then when we noticed the the hanging on his ear, I exclaimed to my wife, “Oh my Gosh! You watch and see, one day we’ll all be wearing those, and being a cyborg will be perfectly normal.”
BaalHaboozeParticipantthose are great!LOL!! Let me add some,
Q. How many Noodniks does it take to change a lightbulb?
A. 1001. One to hold the bulb in place, the rest to spin the house around and around.
Q. how many Breslovers does it take to change a lightbulb?

Q: How many Dell Tech Support people does it take to change a lightbulb?

EDITED
BaalHaboozeParticipantYou can count me in, ZeesKite! But there’s plenty of us left to keep you company. Hopefully the others will return as well!!
BTW, don’t mind me asking, but y’got any booze in here?
BaalHaboozeParticipantmy title should have been ‘Trying to stop Giving Petch’
MODS can we change it, please.
BaalHaboozeParticipanto.k., with all due respect, I am not a mad man or an angry person who goes around hitting my kids from frrustration every day or anything like that. Nothing like that! I would say i petch my kids on their bottom about once every 2-3 weeks. I feel man enough to admit my bad midda, and wish more than anything else to FIX this. I will be speaking to my rebbi about it for help IY”H. Until then, I am looking for pointers and proper chinuch techniques from you posters, not criticism and mussar shoozen on how bad it is to petch when upset. I love my children more than anything else and recognize my fault openly. Constructive criticism is fine, but right now I am seeking alternatives and advice.
BaalHaboozeParticipantHealth: “Unforntunately a lot of elders are moving here and are becoming burdens on their kids.”
1- why UNfortunately?
2- the only way to translate burden in that sentence is #2.
that’s what went through MY mind reading that sentence.
Now, please, I beg, before this blows way out of proportion, I am sorry if I overreacted. somtimes misinterpretations, slips, and wrong connetations happen when we read other’s posts. I don’t mean to start any fights and am sorry for any harmful feelings I have caused you. Again, chas v’shalom do I hate Lakewood, or any yid living there. This thread was created for creative discussions and friendly debates, not fights or sinas achim, ch”v.
peace to us.
BaalHaboozeParticipantFine n dandy:

November 23, 2011 1:42 am at 1:42 am in reply to: Ayc, we love you!!! Please don't be broigaise at us were only human #829662BaalHaboozeParticipantAmen. BTW, Sholom Bayis includes the CR too 🙂
BaalHaboozeParticipantEzratHashem: I agree 100%.
Hey no one said taking care of elderly parents wasn’t hard work, and undoubtly can be difficult at times. But to label your father or mother as ‘a burden’ is keneged hashkofas hatorah.
BaalHaboozeParticipantHealth: I could tell you live there! For Shame! I hope you are wrong about those kids’ attitudes towards their parents and not considering them to be a BURDEN! Is it not a zechus?! Is it not a happy thing?? a wonderful thing, to have your parents near you? It’s people with THAT perspective exactly that I fear Lakewood kids will grow up viewing their aging parents.
A burden.
go figure. you couldn’t have emphasised my point better.
BaalHaboozeParticipantBTGuy: “Bad thread!! There are reasons not to like any place. True?”
Yes, but who cares about Minniapolis, Atlanta or Vancouver?
“To criticize Lakewood openly and just for the sake of getting something off ones chest is a big mistake.”
why? I’m stuck here OOT! Have a heart. I’m only trying to think positive about my situation ?
“Lakewood is a HUGE Makom Torah!!! I would argue that outside Yerushalyim, Lakewood is second best place for too many reasons to list.”
agreed on first point. agreed on second point too. Then again I like Miami better. But anyway…
BaalHaboozeParticipantreal-brisker: that’s why I left the E”Y thread out 🙂
pba:
1. shkoach, I meant in your local shul and neighborhood.
2. I meant Cleveland. I heard their comm. is dwindling.
3. LOL! just throwing it out there.
4. ein hochi nami
5. I’m from OOT, with a OOT mindset. I did not oppose any city in NY. But NO city in NY has neighbourhoods with 3-7+ kids in every single house on the block.
6. know that for a fact.
