Dash: How did you get your link to do that? *is impressed*
Looks like I have to abandon this profile as it has been compromised.
So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish.
December 3, 2012 3:57 am at 3:57 am in reply to: Selling a Sefer to a Non-Orthodox "Synagogue" #910366Ðash®ParticipantBut you’re a woman so I will not teach you torah.
I wonder what makes you say that, I’ve been pretty careful not to reveal any personal information about myself.
Ðash®ParticipantDo you use a kit or did you build your own brewing system?
December 2, 2012 6:31 pm at 6:31 pm in reply to: Selling a Sefer to a Non-Orthodox "Synagogue" #910353Ðash®ParticipantWhat about a Tomei Meis whis is a greater Tumah than Niddah?
The actual reason that women don’t Lein is because it is insulting to the men present that they are unable to Lein.
Ðash®ParticipantHospitals are always accepting blood donations even when there is no blood drive. Here is the information for Maimonides: http://www.maimonidesmed.org/Main/ClinicalServices/Blood-Donation-Center-22.aspx
While the American Red Cross has no upper age limit, Maimonides has an upper age limit of 75 years.
Ðash®ParticipantRabbi Vinas is controversial as he proselytizes Christians to become Jews.
Just because he was associated with Dr. Tobin doesn’t mean he agrees with all of Dr. Tobin’s views.
Ðash®ParticipantThe cash value of the current Powerball lottery is not $550 million, but rather it is $360.2 million.
So, please, everyone reduce your spending plans once upon your win.
My usual plan is to borrow the full jackpot (minus taxes) from a Gemach and repay them with the annuity.
Ðash®ParticipantWhile he has a financial obligation to support her, Halacha does not compel someone with a financial obligation (other than a theif) to work in order to raise such funds.
November 22, 2012 9:24 am at 9:24 am in reply to: we need government paid tuition- let our voice be heard #908370Ðash®ParticipantI just copy it from an earlier post.
November 22, 2012 2:24 am at 2:24 am in reply to: we need government paid tuition- let our voice be heard #908368Ðash®ParticipantThe Catholics in fact do, and long have, been fighting for tuition payments from the government.
But the Catholic school system is heavily subsidized by the diocese (or archdiocese) so parent involvement in the fight is much lower than for other private schools.
November 18, 2012 9:55 am at 9:55 am in reply to: What is Nationality if born in Haifa, 1937? #907370Ðash®ParticipantIf they were included in the 1952 population registration then they would have Israeli citizenship, otherwise they would be stateless.
Ðash®ParticipantYou got it wrong, the point of Small Business Saturday is to encourage the use of American Express cards.
Ðash®ParticipantWhy does the full iPad set cost more than the full printed set????
It doesn’t. Todays’s price for the full digital set is $799.99. The price for the dead tree edition is between 1,139.99 and $1,940.00 depending on size and binding (these prices are all based on the English version).
Personally I think $799.99 is too high of a price to pay Mesorah Publications, LTD (a for-profit business) for a work that was done by Mesorah Heritage Foundation (a non-profit tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization).
Ðash®ParticipantWhy use three syllables when you can convey the same information with two?
Ðash®ParticipantYou seem to talking about 2 different situations. Someone who borrows money has an obligation to repay it even if his financial situation changes (I’m not sure how Jubilee laws effect Bnei Noach). Contract law has no bearing in a simple loan.
You clearly created a straw man here.
Ðash®ParticipantBeing in contact with water that has submerged cables isn’t the issue. In order to get electrocuted someone needs to complete a circuit between a live wire and ground. the problem with water is that it makes a very good ground connection and whenever there is downed wires there is a greater risk of contact.
November 1, 2012 11:28 pm at 11:28 pm in reply to: Map of Chassidic Rebbes/Dynasties from BESH"T #902516Ðash®ParticipantThere are a couple of problems with this task. One problem is that some Chassidis’ just started out of the blue. The first Tosher Rebbe (my Great-Great-Great Grandfather) was born a non-Chassid and his town asked him to become a Rebbe/Ruv.
Tosh can be traced back to Komarno
Ðash®ParticipantFor a beginner you want something with a slim neck that makes it easier to get your hands on the frets.
I reccomend using the same style instument that you eventually want to play. Insisting on a slim neck limits you to nylon stringed guitars without truss rods.
Of the brands already mentioned The only one I’d stay away from is Rogue.
Ðash®ParticipantI met my spouse over the internet, so compatibility can absolutely be determined from an internet posting.
You met your neice over the Internet?
Ðash®ParticipantHenry created the Anglician religion by breaking off the English branch of the Catholic Church and starting his own religion so he could do what he wanted.
What Henry VIII did was temporarily grant papal authority to the Archbishop of Canterbury. It was Elizibeth I who left Catholocism.
October 26, 2012 12:26 am at 12:26 am in reply to: VAS License Plates on a Non-Emergency Vehicle #1031232Ðash®ParticipantThe Department of Transportation permit alows illegal parking only while responding to an emergency. This has been discussed before in the Coffee Room with someone citing the exact regulations. If you have any doubt, however, check with the the DOT Authorized Parking and Permits Bureau.
Here’s a excerpt from Rudy Giuliani’s statement when he authorized the DOT to issue the permits:
Specifically, this bill will enable volunteer ambulance personnel to station their emergency ambulance service vehicles in close proximity to their work or home location, by permitting them to park in spaces that are prohibited by sign or rules, but only when the vehicle is on standby for an emergency ambulance service. The permit system does not and would not authorize the parking of motor vehicles in areas that would be contrary to public safety, such as fire hydrants or fire zones.
This permit system plays an important role in saving people’s lives in New York City. By allowing volunteer ambulance personnel to station vehicles near their home and work while on call for emergency service, the response time it takes EMTs to reach victims of medical emergencies is clearly improved.
October 22, 2012 5:27 am at 5:27 am in reply to: What is your favorite brand of instant coffee? #902185Ðash®ParticipantCoffee is one of the causes for yene Machle.
Yet for some reason it isn’t listed as a product known to the State of California to produce cancer. (Perhaps it is due to lobbying by the California Coffee Growers Association.)
Wikipedia has the following:
Coffee consumption is also correlated in Africa to a reduced risk of oral, esophageal, and pharyngeal cancer. In ovarian cancer, no benefit was found. In the Nurses’ Health Study, a modest reduction in breast cancer was observed in postmenopausal women only, which was not confirmed in decaffeinated coffee, and a reduction in endometrial cancer was observed in people who drank either caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee. According to one study, coffee protects the liver from cancer. Another preliminary study found a correlation between coffee consumption and a lower risk of aggressive prostate cancer.
Ðash®ParticipantI thought this post was about grizzly bears.
Ðash®ParticipantThe correct term is Hagiography, not Biography.
There is nothing wrong with it.
There’s nothing wrong as long as it is presented as a hagiography, producing a hagiography while claiming it’s a biography is wrong.
October 18, 2012 7:07 pm at 7:07 pm in reply to: What is your favorite brand of instant coffee? #902154Ðash®ParticipantJust wondering, all those who are not so desperate, who have the time and luxury to actually (grow and) brew their coffee, does it have the same caffeine effect as instant? Does it also help keep eyelids open?
More important than the brewing method are the species of beans used. The better brewed coffee use Arabica beans which have about half as much caffine as the cheaper Robusta beans used to make instant coffee.
The easiest method to make sure you get Arabica coffee without having to read the fine print is to buy 100% Colombian coffee, only Arabica is grown in Colombia.
Ðash®ParticipantAntisemitism certainly exists, but it is not the prevailing attitude.
Ðash®ParticipantCan’t wait to see how quickly this devolves into racisim and xenophobia.
But I guess when Eisav Soneh Es Yaakov is the prevailing attitude we can’t really expect much different.
I think the prevailing attitude is Yaakov Soneh Es Eisav. In all my years of employment I was never refered to as “The Jew”.
October 17, 2012 8:39 am at 8:39 am in reply to: VAS License Plates on a Non-Emergency Vehicle #1031187Ðash®ParticipantIn NY, the law permits EMTs to have lights and sirens and go through red lights.
No, only an EASV (Emergency Ambulance Service Vehicles) is allowed to have lights and sirens. Hatzalah’s dispatch model uses the members POV (Privately Owned Vehicles) as RRVs (Rapid Responce Vehicles) so they can qualify as EASVs.
New Jersey does not allow POVs to be EASVs.
Since you said that a member or spouse can get VAS plates even if they don’t do first aid then is it at least possible that some unethical volunteer groups give out letters to big donors or volunteers who do things like clerical work?
Based on my understanding, a member whose sole function is clerical would be eligible for VAS plates
October 16, 2012 7:23 am at 7:23 am in reply to: VAS License Plates on a Non-Emergency Vehicle #1031169Ðash®Participant1. What is the difference between VAS and EMT (or EMT-P) plates?
2. Is it true that some people who have VAS plates are not EMTs? If so, what are the qualifications to get VAS plates? (I know you said that a sponsorship letter is required so I am basically asking what you have to do to get the letter.)
EMT and EMT-P plates are for EMTs or Paramedics regardless of their participation in an ambulance service.
VAS plates are for members of volenteer ambulance services or their spouces regardless of their medical capabilities.
October 15, 2012 8:25 pm at 8:25 pm in reply to: VAS License Plates on a Non-Emergency Vehicle #1031161Ðash®ParticipantThe abuse is that they get a second VAS plate for their wifes car that isn’t used for emergency responses …
Here is a snippet from the application form.
NOTE: To obtain custom plates in the two series listed below, the current registration must be in the name of the emergency services member OR his/her spouse.
Volunteer Ambulance Service (PROOF: Letter from ambulance company certifying eligibility. Must be on ambulance company letterhead.
FEE: $43.75)
October 7, 2012 9:57 pm at 9:57 pm in reply to: Radical Proposal to Help Save Some of Our Crisis' #898803Ðash®Participant“Crisis” is singular. “Crises” is plural. “Crisis'” makes no sense.
Crisis’ is the possesive form of Crisis.
Ðash®ParticipantI heard from a very respectable rebetzen (Not some fancy shmantzy silly principle in an e”y sem…) a really brilliant woman, who said that when you cry/shed tears from something that someone did to you, it is very bad because it can cause a kitrug or something like that on that person. So if you find yourself very hurt, you can actually take those same tears and turn it into a tefilla and that tefilla is considered a tefilla that was said with tears which is very powerful! (even though the tears were not originally brought out from tefilla!)
So instead of warning people not to hurt others, we just reverse the roles of victims and perpetrators.
(And yes, I know I’m reponding to an old post of someone who hasn’t posted in two years)
Ðash®ParticipantI never wear a kittle on Rosh HaShannah.
In my Shul the Baal Koreh wears a Kittel. I always thought it was a universal Minhag.
Ðash®ParticipantÐash®ParticipantNot only will her reputation be ruined but the entire extended family!!
Now I get it. You’re concerned that your reputation will be ruined if your cousin marries a boy who was previously engaged.
Ðash®ParticipantWho is behind this? I couldn’t tell from their website and only watched the beginning and end of the video.
Ðash®ParticipantNovominsk is from Poland, Klausenberg is from Romania.
September 14, 2012 9:26 pm at 9:26 pm in reply to: NYC Board of Health Votes to Regulate Bris Milah #1096205Ðash®ParticipantIn my yeshiva, we generally don’t do metzitza bpeh. (Nor mechitza bpeh).
However, if I have a son while this is in force, I will insist the mohel do metzitza bpeh, and I will find anther mohel or do it myself if he won’t.
And no, I won’t sign their ox’s horn either.
If you follow a halachic ruling not to do metzitza bpeh, than the DOH ruling cannot be considured a Gezaras Shmad.
Ðash®ParticipantIt’s about the same quality of the other jewish brand creamers without sodium cassinate. I keep it on hand for others but I usually have my coffee in the morning so having Parve creamer isn’t that important to me.
Ðash®ParticipantI don’t know of any PC creamer liquid available at retail. Golden Flow (and I think Eden) make PC creamers but you’ll have to find a distributer and buy it by the case. Rich’s used to make it but I think it’s discontinued. Gefen makes PC powder in retail boxes.
Ðash®ParticipantTraditionally, halachic rulings come from Poskim, not Roshei Yeshiva.
Ðash®ParticipantHe explains that for broccoli, it’s easiest to remove the florets (to discard) and just rinse and inspect the stems.
Thats like peeling an orange just to eat the peel.
Ðash®ParticipantFor cotton, just wash them in a mesh bag and be prepared to replace the strings if nessasary. For wool, hand wash only.
Ðash®ParticipantUnfortunately there was tons of background politics (the yetzer hora at work) that severely crippled the asifa and ruined an occasion that really could have been much more of a success.
There is always background politics, but the Agudah handled the complaints and didn’t let them detract from the Siyum.
Ðash®ParticipantHe should be carefully calculating what is the appropriate expression and how he can best display it to the public.
Seriously, what is this thread?
You have to admit, it’s better than this weeks Motzai Shabbos thread.
Ðash®ParticipantWhat happened to Rebbetzin Esther Jungreis? She did the RNC invocation in ’04 or ’08.
They can’t do the same program every time.
Ðash®ParticipantA perfect example of a model that has various screens is the Dell Inspiron 5000. The options are:
14″ 1024×768
14″ 1400×1050
15″ 1024×768
15″ 1400×1050
15″ 1600×1200
Using different aspect ratios is probably not done because it defines the shape of the laptop and backlight technology depends more on when it was designed.
Of course Dell is an extreme example because their laptops (at least when they produced the Inspiron 5000) were mainly built to order.
Ðash®ParticipantType “wmic csproduct get name” (no quotes) in the window that appears
That usually will give the product line but not enough detail to identify what screen to use. Sometimes the product line along with the basic screen specs (Size, Aspect ratio, Resolution, and Backlight technology) will be enough to identify what replacement panel to get.
Ðash®ParticipantWhy shouldn’t we? Don’t we have opinions?
Moderating isn’t for injecting your opinion in other’s posts. Posts generally should approved, rejected, or in some cases edited in order to pass approval.
There is no reason why you can’t make your own post with your opinion.
It was relevant to the issue of why I had approved the link. So it belonged there.
Ðash®ParticipantMods: Please allow this link
its a toshiba idk the model number i have the serial number if that helps
On Toshiba’s support page http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/globalEntitlement.jsp you should be able to determine what model you have from the serial number. I say should because in my case it didn’t.
