Any hotel on Ocean Drive is a good place to stay.
aziParticipantyros,
how about Roshei Yeshiva who think for themselves and dont fall for the part line? Maybe some poeple have a clear view of the world and realize that extremism should be left for the Taliban.
January 20, 2009 2:20 am at 2:20 am in reply to: Shidduch Crisis, Daas Torah and Hishtadlos #634644aziParticipantI have a feeling that Joseph’s modus operandi is to be an agitator.
aziParticipantJoseph,
Why dont you just let people make their own decisions on things that are not a dvar halacha. If a cup of milk spills into your chicken soup ask your LOR. To be a civilized person, and nice and polite to all you respone when someone greets you.
January 19, 2009 8:33 pm at 8:33 pm in reply to: Most Common Surname Among Torah Observant Jews #828905aziParticipantI know a lot of frum Smiths.
aziParticipantcantoresq,
Kaplan never spent a day in YU. Quoted from an online bio: “He graduated from City College of New York, was ordained at the Jewish Theological Seminary and received a master’s degree from Columbia University. He served as associate rabbi of Kehillath Jeshurun, an Orthodox synagogue in New York”.
aziParticipantJoseph,
I would rather live without luck.
aziParticipantJoesph,
Ya, pretty lucky. Huh?
aziParticipantcherrybim,
OK, good so you made an educated argument. That is allright, I assumed it was a yeshivish jerk-reacton to the realities of history. However, your theory is the best I could come up with also but its very far. R’ Shaul Lieberman wasn’t the chancellor at JTS. Nor would anyone make a connection between someone learing in Slobodka with R’ Ruderman to then, being his student in Marylnand and becoming chancellor .
aziParticipantJoseph,
The Rosh HaYeshiva was the head of the Yeshiva, R’ Shmuel Belkin. Rabbi Solovetchik was the Rosh Yeshiva, along with R’ Lifshitz, R’ Alpert, R’ Zaks etc. Like a magid shuir in the Mir is a RoshYeshiva but not the head like R’ Noson Tzvi Finkel.
aziParticipantcherrybim,
I dont know who he is refering to. but why would you automatically assume it isnt true? That is very naive.
aziParticipantFor further reading on this topic there are a lot of interesting books:
Between Berlin and Slabodka (also has a chapter on R Yitzchok Hutner)
The Rav – 2 volumes (R Aaron Rakeffet)
Orthodoxy Awakens (victor Geller)
The Solovetchik Heritage (Rebitzen Meiselman)
aziParticipantTOHIGHSCHOOLGUY,
um, i was actually being serious. It is a merit to the Rav that his talmidim and admirers (very few here now, mind you) who hav gathered here are being very respectful. My point was that in another topic which draws other crowds I doubt it would be this way. again: if you understand what i mean.
aziParticipantareivimzehlazeh,
no i have been around for a few months. I was actually recenty wondering if when people see my name, if they recognize it and identify me with my previous comments and opinions.
mazal77,
No, it isnt difficult at all, ive done in alreday in Miami. I bring a beach bag with ice tea, tuna and crackers, a Gemorah and a Kol Haolam Kulo.
aziParticipantThere are two things to do in Cancun. 1) Sit on the beach with a gemorah, and 2) try not to get kidnapped for ransom.
aziParticipantI’m going to Cacun, Mexico iy”h
aziParticipantyashrus20, why the interets in Rabbi Solovetchik?
aziParticipantyashrus20,
Right, how could i have forgoten R. Meiselman (the Rav’s nephew) and R. Shurkin. Not familiar with R. Islin though. Is he a Rosh Yeshiva at REITS?
Also, I don’t want to miss R. Shneur Kotler who learned in the Rav’s shuir.
aziParticipantLet’s not forget the Rosh HaYeshiva shlit”a.
aziParticipantProbably his son in law R’ Ahron Lichtenstein, followed by R’ Herchel Shachter, R’ Ahron Rothkoff-Rakefet and R’ Menachem Genack.
(Will the moderators allow us to use words like Harav Hagoan and Gedolim in this forum?)

aziParticipantThe phone issue is just about people taking time away from their learning to checki their emails and text messages and walking out to answer phone calls. If its kept outside in your coat, it shouldnt be a problem.
aziParticipantnotpashut,
Wow! i dont even know what to say to that.
You by addmiting to being a hypocrite, ipso facto admitted to using the internet for purposes other then what the rabbonim recommend. Therefore either (1) you dont really agree with them and chose to do what you want, or (2) you agree with them but cant help your self, and you are the type of person on the internt that the rabbonim are worried about.
I guess i was able to think of something.
aziParticipantIsnt everybody in this forum who is arguing with gawker being a hypocrite? I dont understand how people can say things, true as they are, like: “It means adapting our lifestyle to fit the Torah, as espoused by the Gedolim Shlitta”, “why do we always think we our smarter than the rabanim”, “we have to trust our gedolim”!!!! and not listen to the gedolim.
HELLOOOOOOOO, arent you the very people not currently using the internet for business but rather for information and enjoyment? if these are truly your beliefs than go read WallStreetJournal.com and invest your money on E-Trade. but what are you doing here?

aziParticipantOh my, this place is getting crazier and crazier.

Its possible the chosson Ezi Gellis is a friend of Shloimy Steinman. Maybe he’s not a real singer. He should be though.
aziParticipantI heard Shloimy Steinamn at a chassuna in New York. I would say the name of the families if I could so people could recognize the singer if they were there. (if they wont delete it the chossons last name was Gellis). He was singing with Shloimy Daskal which I know has CD’s out in stores. He’s also very good.
aziParticipantNobodys heard Shloimy Steinman at a chassuna? I thought since he’s so good he would be at a lot of chassunas.
I also like Yirmiyahu Daman (Belz).
aziParticipantI actualy once heard a singer at a chasuna, I think his name was Shloimy Steinman, he was fantastic. Does anyone know if he has a CD out?
aziParticipantI don’t really like any Jewish music, so I guess I cant be apart of this topic. Oh well.

Im glad to see your a strong person.
aziParticipantI can only try,
Misachek Bikuvia is only when one gambles for a living. occasionally gambling is not Misachek Bikuvia and thus the player is not posul l’edus. This may not “sound” right and it may hurt your sensitivities, but thats the halach and this is not assur at all.
aziParticipantIs there a moon in the sky at night? That is a poorly worded or purposely insulting question.
aziParticipantIt’s not really a question of muttar or assur. It doesn’t fall under the category of “mesachek b’kuvia”
aziParticipantIt’s not really a question of muttar or assur. It doesn’t fall under the category of “mesachek b’kuvia”

aziParticipantCan we please stop it already with the chumras and prohibiting things that are a natural part of modern life. If we allow things to just keep getting tighter and tighter around everyones necks it will result in a lot of people leaving the fold (oh ya, i mean more than it’s already caused).
When I was growing up my frinds in yeshiva who didn’t have TV’s were completely obsessed with it. they were at their grandparents house every sundaay to watch and whn they went to friend homes with Tv’s all they wanted to do was watch TV.
The key is: everything in moderation. And you cant keep poeple away from things as normal as a portable telephone.

Right, and both Lakewood Yeshiva and that area’s YU campus (the Stern buildingd) are named after the same Henry Beren. It like Jewish Geography, literally.

1/2 cup of parev/meat chicken stock
Cinnamon, paparika, cumin, cloves, dill, coriander – all to taste
aziParticipantshe must live in Israel with Moshe because he grew up with her and she is a person he recognizes. Its possible he doesnt even really know his grandparents.
