Is there original text of the cherem, exactly as written by Rabbeinu Gershom, in any Sefer?

Btw, did the Sephardim not accept any portion of the cherem or they just didn’t accept the ban on polygamy?

And if someone violates one of the cherem’s, is it akin to violating mitzvah d’rabbanan instituted by Chazal (even though in this case it was instituted by a Rishon)?

Sam: It seems halacha is explicit that one may forcibly divorce his wife. Like, if she burns your meal. (Prior to the cherem for Ashkenazim and currently for non-Ashkenazim.) What does the Ran say, and are there differing shittos to said Ran?

Such a clause seems to just require her consent. Which, unless I am mistaken, was always the default requirement even before the cherem, when even Ashkenazim could have more than one wife. So, with that clause, she could still provide consent. (Whether she does or not is academic to the theory.)

This argument is going nowhere. Those who believe the Torah commands us to hate this meshumedes rasha DF, will not be convinced by those who think an abuser is just as bad as her. And those who can’t bring themselves to hate a woman even if the Torah commands us to, will not stop mixing in irrelevant comparisons to abusers.

That wasn’t my main point, but yeah, that’s the halacha. Gotta listen to Poppa before sweety for him, but gotta listen to hubby before Momma for her. Don’t know all the parameters how or when it applies, but that’s the default.

The rabbis don’t. Many of them hate it. But the paper thinks it sells better if they put in their photos. So they send the photographers to snap away.

The opening statement was proof that you gotta follow your parents command. (Otherwise, why would halacha have to tell you to do what your father wants before what your mother wants, if there’s a conflict.) Cause, otherwise someone might have argued that Kibud Av V’Eim only means “respect”, not adhere.

And why did Mr. Bomberg start from Beis instead of Alef?

About 7 or 8 years ago, U.S. troops in Iraq found a approx. 900 year old copy of a set of Shas in the flooded basement of an Iraqi police station. It was flooded from the war damage. They eventually brought it to the U.S. to dry and restore. They agreed to return it to the Iraqis once restored, though I don’t know if it was returned.

The story was covered by the U.S. media, including nunerous articles in the N.Y. Times.
