ari-freeParticipant
The real problem is when halachic views are changed in response to political pressure.
ari-freeParticipant99% of my posts were written by an infinite number of monkeys on typewriters. The rest were censored.
ari-freeParticipantThis must be a British thing I will never understand.
ari-freeParticipantJews love cardinals because it gave us an excuse to stick Hebrew into math.
ari-freeParticipantShi-take mushrooms are grown on logs. There shouldn’t be any problem with those as long as they are not dried.
ari-freeParticipantI’m cool because I listen to music that 99.99% of the world doesn’t listen to. I don’t use iTunes because there is nothing I like on iTunes!
ari-freeParticipantThe problem is that chareidim in Israel will get drafted if they want to work. Sticking chareidim into the military or National Service isn’t going to help them get out of welfare. It will just make it worse.
The other problem is that chareidim in private yeshivas will now be forced to learn all kinds of kefirah. This is in order to change them, not help prepare them for work.
ari-freeParticipant“I wasn’t complaining, honestly! I was merely pointing out that sometimes a piece of work that is too intelligent is often marked down cause people just don’t understand it.”
Especially if it was judged by a panel of monkeys.
ari-freeParticipantSpiderJerusalem: what if Moshiach turned out to be chareidi? Would you fight him? What if he is Satmar?
Also, there’s no rule he has to be popular. What the masses want is usually not according to the Torah.
ari-freeParticipantAnother reason why Asian cuisine is popular is because there is hardly any basar v’chalav issues. European cuisine is full of basar v’chalav issues and it is much harder to find substitutions. Sour cream was just left out of the fleishig borscht. Then there are the desserts…
ari-freeParticipantOideh Hashem m’od b’fi. (Skulaner Nigunim)
ari-freeParticipantGo to as many weddings as you can.
Don’t be afraid to look foolish at first since you will make lots of stupid mistakes in front of everyone.
ari-freeParticipantAlmost every kosher restaurant now has sushi. The pizza stores sell it. The non-Japanese steakhouses all have it. The supermarkets sell it and many people have sushi for shabbos night instead of gefilte fish. Our supermarket gives a good discount on Friday because sushi isn’t good even a day later in the fridge. And it’s not because of the fish-the rice gets hard.
March 13, 2013 8:47 pm at 8:47 pm in reply to: Kosher L'Pesach Cigarettes: Is Something Wrong With This? #938048ari-freeParticipantKosher for Pesach chazir I can understand if you want to feed to your dog. This is more like giving hashgacha to a restaurant with belly dancing
ari-freeParticipantThere shouldn’t be any strings. Trust the parents with their own children. Not some journalist who doesn’t have a high school diploma.
ari-freeParticipantOK here are some ordinals just for you!
1st, 2nd, 3rd 4th, 5th,…
ari-freeParticipantI know that there are gedolim who are against eating pork though I can’t give specific statements.
ari-freeParticipantI believe in separating school from state. End the public school system, end direct funding to yeshivas and just give people vouchers. If people want chiloni schools, let them have their own private chiloni schools.
ari-freeParticipant“I think moshiach will be chareidi, but will arrive wearing a srugi, just to test our ahavas yisroel. “
So he will be breslov?
ari-freeParticipantYou don’t need to make it illegal to drive on Shabbos. Just turn off all the traffic lights and allow pedestrians to take over the streets.
March 12, 2013 5:00 am at 5:00 am in reply to: Interesting Thing That Happened To Me; Is Geography Really That Difficult? #936621ari-freeParticipantNo, not all. There’s a lot of krum stuff out there, much more than you realize.
ari-freeParticipantThe dati leumi will be burned by Lapid, don’t worry. They are just serving as useful idiots for now.
ari-freeParticipantI don’t think they should have compromised but they definitely made political mistakes. Likud also lost because of these kinds of tactics. For example, both Likud and chareidim attacked Bennett before the election and it is no surprise that Bennett felt that he needed to take revenge on both.
ari-freeParticipantmdd wrote: “Kanoi, if we were talking about a country which gives out these financial benefits and the general population does not mind people taking them to stay in kollel, I would agree with you. If the general public objects and has ta’anos, then it’s Chillul HaShem and hisgarus be’Umos. “
The existence of the settlements is hisgarus be’umos according to most of the world. The idea of a Jewish State is hisgarus be’umos. So if you are going to bend to what everyone else thinks, you won’t have anything.
ari-freeParticipantNobody expected Bayit Yehudi to ally with Lapid. It was not part of the campaign and I am sure there were many people who voted for BY thinking they would work together with the chareidim.
On the other hand…Being together with Tzippi Livni? No problem!
March 12, 2013 1:29 am at 1:29 am in reply to: Interesting Thing That Happened To Me; Is Geography Really That Difficult? #936618ari-freeParticipantThe 5 Boros of New York: Williamsburg, Boro Park, Flatbush, Monsey and Kiryas Yoel.
ari-freeParticipantYou know what is a chilul Hashem? When the creator of an American magazine that celebrates filth proclaims that Israel shares his ‘values.’ This is what is accepted in Israel, not the Torah.
ari-freeParticipantYou can’t leave the country unless you do what it wants? Israel truly is now a fascist state.
March 10, 2013 10:59 pm at 10:59 pm in reply to: 50 Y.O. Women Grocery Shopping In 3" Heeled Pumps On A Slushy Thursday Night? #938900ari-freeParticipantWhen I think of valet parking, I think of a simcha. Pomegranate offers valet parking so it must be a big simcha every time someone wants to buy a dozen eggs and a box of cereal.
ari-freeParticipantThey say might is right but guess what? Iran is a big country, Israel is a tiny country and will be squished like a little grape. Iran doesn’t even have to send a missile for Israelis to attempt to shoot down. They can just smuggle in a nuke and that will be the end of everything.
These dati leumi are so funny. Their big idea is to just kick out all the arabs or to pay them all off. Everything is just so simple. They hate the arabs/Iranians but trivialize the actual threat.
ari-freeParticipant“The roshei yeshiva of YU, just like HaRav Aharon Lichtenstein, shlita, endorse fully service of all bnei torah in Tzahal. See Sotah 44b.”
Most modern Orthodox don’t want to serve in the IDF. They want to make money in America. Why live a life of sacrifice when it is so much easier in America? If they decide to make aliya, it is only after retirement. Many American chareidim want to make aliya right after they get married so that they can learn in Israeli yeshivas. They are prepared to live a life of sacrifice. This aliya will now end.
ari-freeParticipantI am afraid. Obama was re-elected and Hagel is Sec of Defense. There will be nobody stopping Iran from developing its nukes. It is SILLY to think that a tiny country like Israel will be able to do anything about it. It doesn’t even have real bombers such as the B-2 stealth bomber.
Without the protection of Torah, I don’t see how anything good will come from this. Maybe this is the point: all the chareidim should be scared to leave so that they will be safe when the inevitable occurs.
ari-freeParticipantEven if an infinite number of monkeys could produce Shakespeare, you will never be able to find it because it will be hidden in an infinite amount of garbage.
ari-freeParticipantYou should tell your neighbor his wi-fi isn’t secure. In fact, there was a letter in Yated about this issue.
ari-freeParticipantWomen shouldn’t even be encouraged to join the army (let alone forcibly drafted) even if they aren’t learning Torah.
ari-freeParticipantWho said anything about a comma? 🙂
ari-freeParticipantYou can have naruto roll! It’s fish wrapped in cucumber.
ari-freeParticipantVery good.
ari-freeParticipantAlright, alright. I checked out the English Page site, noticed that my grammar needs work and am now working on my verb tenses.
“The mural is going to have been being painted by the famous artist for over six months by the time it is finished.”
ugh…
ari-freeParticipantMaybe they didn’t know your phone number? Everyone needs to work on connections. I’ve been to shuls from outside my neighborhood and people noticed that I was new there and welcomed me to the area. On the other hand, if you want people to know you, you can’t just show up in shul. There are lots of people who want to have guests over for shabbos but you have to show initiative and contact them.
ari-freeParticipanthmm I know a yeshiva that serves lots of great food, a big basketball gym, a skylight in the beis medrash and a zero smoking policy and yet there are lots of guys with hair problems.
ari-freeParticipantScharffen Berger and Guittard are kosher
March 1, 2013 7:30 pm at 7:30 pm in reply to: Whats your typical menu Shabbos night and day? #933598ari-freeParticipantThat’s because you’ve never had deep fried gefilte fish in beer batter.
March 1, 2013 6:38 pm at 6:38 pm in reply to: Whats your typical menu Shabbos night and day? #933596ari-freeParticipantThere are 2 kinds of Jews: those who think gefilte fish is really really good and those who are not British.
ari-freeParticipantBoiled chicken is good for adding to matzo balls, kreplach, fried rice, mashed potatoes, stuffing. Basically take any starchy pareve side dish and make it fleishigs with it.
ari-freeParticipantMustard. Just like Avraham Avinu used to serve at the first Jewish deli.
ari-freeParticipantWhen I wrote “Try 3 parts oil to 1 part vinegar. ” I don’t mean to just do that. That should be the foundation and you should come up with your own ideas of what to add to that (mustard, garlic, herbs, honey etc). If that is too tart then replace some vinegar with water to keep the 3:1 ratio.
Oil and water will break apart on their own but a little mustard, honey or mayo really helps keep everything together. That’s probably why your non-mayo dressings weren’t so easy to make. You’re not adding those things just to make it taste better. Also, if you can put it in the blender, it will keep together better than shaking it.
Always try to taste everything. That’s one of the most important rules of cooking and it is a mitzva to do it on Erev Shabbos.
ari-freeParticipantThat’s good to hear. You see, I got this cake for shaloch manos and now I know I have someone to send it to.
ari-freeParticipantIf you exercise, that will solve many problems.
ari-freeParticipantThat’s the real point. Express your own thoughts and try to let other people express theirs without trying to think for them.
