MO and YU shita are 2 very different things. Anyone (including those who follow YU shita) can say they are MO but not everyone can say they are following the YU shita

There are many shiurim that I can’t understand because I don’t know yiddish. Artscroll isn’t going to translate everything.

It’s too bad that some of those who consider themselves to be ‘modern’ are in favor of ignorance.

There’s a big difference between “It’s OK to work instead of kollel” versus “why aren’t those kollel guys working?”

So Mishpacha isn’t ramaz/YCT kind of left-of-center but more like “I’m frum but with it and get a job, guys” left-of-center?

For example, take a look at “Nissan, Honda, Chrysler Report US Sales Increases” He has absolutely nothing to say! We certainly would appreciate some insight on this topic.

If you potch kids and scream, you are teaching kids it’s OK for them to potch and scream. If you lie and talk during davening, they will see it’s OK for them to lie and talk during davening.

If they see you learn Torah and do mitzvos with joy they will follow that example.

yes I realize it was too harsh. Just as you don’t want to turn people off from Shabbos by being harsh about it, I also shouldn’t turn people off from doing kiruv and hachnosas orchim by being harsh about it, making them feel guilty, etc. Torah should be made pleasant to all Jews and not just newbies.

No the burden is not on the one opposing the plan. You don’t spend millions of dollars on a plan that may possibly work if only you win a royal flush 3 times in a row in your poker game tomorrow even if it is theoretically possible.

If some kid goes to a bank “Hey I have a great plan to take over microsoft, lend me a million dollars!” Should we be surprised if the bank says no without giving a reason? First, prove you have what it takes instead of coming out of nowhere with all kinds of untested ideas.

I’m surprised he can only find one issue to run against Hikind after his many years of public service. What else does he stand for? Surely he doesn’t agree with him on everything else.

Somehow, I think there’s some inside thing (to get ‘their’ guy in) that is the real reason for his support and this housing issue is just to have something to say to the public.

Animals should absolutely be used for experimentation. It serves a human need.

The problem is only when someone tortures an animal just because he feels like it and doesn’t serve any other purpose.

You can use an UMAi bag if you have a vacuum sealer.

I’ve had Aron’s Kissena Farms pepperoni but it was just a few slices in a sealed bag.

Very few people made a veal pancetta even though it can look exactly like the real thing if made with a fatty veal navel/plate. Maybe because pancetta is something you cook with and not something you can just eat on its own.

If someone can’t communicate with others who are learning, can’t be in a yeshiva then such a person is not truly part of the system. It doesn’t matter if she is very smart and knowledgeable from learning on her own. In order to be a rabbi, you must have connection with an oral Torah of real living rebbeim. (Shimush Chachamim)

Like they say, you have to be street smart and not just book smart. There’s nothing ‘wrong’ with her. She just can’t have the experience that comes with being in close contact with those who know. Why? Because it’s not tznius to be that close.

That’s how to do it. It gets them to keep one Shabbos correctly without having to learn all the details. They won’t be in a situation where the host doesn’t know what to do with them for an entire Shabbos (remember this not just a meal)

Most good cholent recipes use some combination of ketchup and honey. Or bbq sauce/maple syrup.

Well, I just came up with a crazy idea for super spicy zesty asian cholent! Instead of potatoes, use daikon radish cut into chunks. Put in your usual cholent ingredients such as barley, onions, meat, etc. Now add hoisin sauce and sweet thai chili sauce! Some sriracha too.
