squeak- i’m gonna have to sue you for neck stress. I had to turn my whole head sideways to view ur signature properly. The other option would be to take the screen and turn it upside down- then my boss would sue you and you don’t want THAT- believe me

asdfghjkl- now you’ve done it. I was laughing so hard bout the hair gel my co-worker came in to ask what’s wrong. My shoulders were shaking. Maybe I’m just in that kinda mood- happens on Thursdays u know. That giddiness that Shabbos is almost here. ahhhh- some menuchas hanefesh at last

These are some really deep questions- as light as they may sound.

love this xtra trivia on the intelligence community!

re pardoning Pollard: another reason, besides pidyon shvuyim, is that Pollard is sitting for giving over secrets to a FRIENDLY country. In comparison, those that have given over secrets to an ENEMY country have all sat for just a few years. Pollard has paid his dues time and a half by now and should be pardoned. And their crimes were twice as bad.

For all those members that always demand “sources”- I apologize. I’ve read so many articles about this I can not possibly recall which one contained the info comparing similar crimes and their punishments.

RY- i agree you have to be open and act normal. I had suggested to keep her involved. That still does not take away the fact that an ayin harah can occur. There’s two sides to the coin here.

squeak- why does the person that doesn’t have children need to go for help? Do you go for therapy every time something painful happens? The friend with the good news can be the person to help her through her hard time- by being sensitive, understanding, involved. Being extremely sensitive (not pity) & being involved does not have to contradict each other.

ames- all I have to say is: WOW OH WOW! Those were incredibly sincere, open & loving posts. Extremely inspiring- thank you.

Moish- After all that’s been said, there’s not much for me to add except to enforce what squeak mentioned all the way at the end of a post, as a really small point, that really- IS NO SMALL POINT. It’s the basis of all teshuva- “mitoch lo lishma, buh lishmah” Which roughly means- even if we do a mitzva without the right kavanos/correct reasons, it’s best to do it anyway because eventually we will come to doing it properly/for the right reasons/with the correct kavanos. First start to do it so that you get used to doing it, then you can concentrate on the deeper meaning of it.

Somebody please correct me if I explained that wrong.

I believe this is the first time I disagree with squeak. You can never be sensitive enough and you can’t place the responsibility on the other party. There is nothing they can do to control such painful feelings.

I basically agree with ames’ approach.

But, there definitely is such a thing as an ayin harah from such a person. It’s not maliciousness, or at all intentional; just very very difficult to swallow such news. Despite all this, a true friend WILL be happy for you and you should keep her involved- for her sake and for yours- to preserve the relationship.

I think she’ll be grateful in the end.

please, raboissai- i never heard of a girl going over to a 50 yr old man, flutter her eyelashes and say “good shabbos”. Somehow, in my imagination, the wrong relationships start out very differently.

As to whether or not saying g’shabbos is correct- i’d say it’s a chumra/geder (an admirable one). We can’t touch a strange man/woman, we try not to speak to a strange man/woman

ok, ok- i think we get the point. But let’s remember that neither extreme, regarding anything, is ever good. It doesn’t have to be either zero personal info or carelessness.

Take Charlie & myself as an example. I’m here for a very short time, yet I do feel that “chummy” feeling with Charlie (dunno if it’s mutual :))- and neither of us ever revealed personal info. (This feeling is probably due to the fact that we keep the same hours in the CR.)

I completely agree with Intelligent regarding direct contact- it’s a terribly dangerous world out there and there are lunatics lurking everywhere; even in the CR (or shall I say- especially in the CR ;)! .

My point being, you have to use your head and always take the middle road.

Perhaps the Mods’ guidelines will help those that can’t differentiate between having a little fun and seriously harming themselves. But in general, I don’t think every post with seemingly personal info should be deleted. The Mods too need to use their G-d given seichel.

Whew- long speech. Sorry if I chewed your ear off
