An update would be appreciated, I still check daily in the hopes that its working.
arcParticipantthere are plenty of hotels there are minyanim and kosher food at the park.
they have a website for the lancaster jewish community with more info.
the park is kid friendly but yours are really young theyre still at the age where you can do things you will enjoy and so will they.
arcParticipantit says midvar sheker tirchak not “only say the truth”. In your examples use common sense.
arcParticipantHello,
:incredulous: you dont force your way on everyone else! You think it’s proper to have a beard, but there’s still a heter to shave.
How could it be?!?
arcParticipantainohd there are poskim that are matir lift and cut.
helpful where did it say R’Yackov was against shaving? I know his grandchildren shaved.
arcParticipantAINOHD,
dont make it blanket rulings when its not the case.
wolf, good policy
arcParticipantmaxwell thats like a 6000 word post no way I can read that pare it down for brevity sake.
arcParticipantSJS firstly I didnt say I feel its neccesitated I blamed the “system”.
Heyois many in the yeshivish velt feel its a knock on a girl vis a vis shidduchim not to go to Israel it is somewhat.
Personally I dont feel every girl should go but I also feel the way the system is set and the fact that in most schools it’s a given, it is often unfair not to allow your daughter to go.
Lastly the connotation of “galavanting” as if they do and gain nothing in Israel is flat out inaccurate and disgusting.
arcParticipantCall CCHF and see. It most likely won’t be free but they can send you the programs.
arcParticipantThere are many things that people do -with mesora and blessings from their Rabbonim/poskim- that other poskim dont agree with.
I’m sure you dont lead your lives exactly according to everything all the current poskim pasken therefore dont expect everyone else to take on your chumros.
arcParticipantthe system views seminary as a neccessity
arcParticipantanswer #3 is very valid. take out the exteremes like LA and it’s half price for schools here as opposed to israel where it’s cheaper to live and salaries are less.
arcParticipantRadisson in NJ… I think it’s the one in parsippanny.
arcParticipantAgain R’ Kanievski I’m not questioning him, I’m just saying I have a minhag and mesorah that it isn’t assur to shave. I also have no connection to him that implores me to follow everything he paskens.
I know some of R’ Yackovs grandchildren and some of R’ Moshe’s grandchildren shaved. My father, grandfather and other choshuv members of my family, that live their lives c’halacha, shave(d) as well.
arcParticipantmax how we translate and apply the torah especially in this case IS minhag.
Many people don’t hold like the mishna brura on many things and I’m not only talking about sfardim. i am going to go out on a limb (based on the way you type “minhug” not ‘minhag”) and say you yourself have minhaggim different then M”B.
arcParticipantI think torahls1 had the perfect response.
arcParticipantMissme if your minhag is not to shave then dont. Others that dont have the same minhag will and we are both right.
At the risk of sounding like a heretic, there are many gedolim that have various shittas that not everyone holds like. If you have no connection to a gadol, you dont have to follow his shitaah IF you have a minhag otherwise.
For example the chazon ish and shaving or the right shiur for kiddush.
A yekishe bochur was told by R’ Breur (sic?), to tell his R”Y that the yekki minhagim predate the mishna brura by a few hundred years. therefore, even though the mishna brura says otherwise, the YB should do his minhag. (story was in the yated recently in the chinuch roundtable)
arcParticipantwaterbury is a very small town.
Lakewood has schools especially day school with a good secular department but overall lakewood is very yeshivish.
arcParticipantI heard R’ Gifter said “a bochur with a beard is a tie with pajamas”
Many different poskim have different opinions elu v’elu divrei elokim chaim.
arcParticipanti know someone that lost over 100lbs and has kept it off. they say it changed their life and attitude and highly recomend it.
to each their own!
arcParticipantyour question was “what defines a shul as a young israel” the answer is belonging to the NCYI and following their rules.
arcParticipantmost companies have websites that will quote it for you free. To many variables to have everyone guess an umber
arcParticipantHaifa, I did in fact close down ;).
Aura R’ Moshe discusses your question speak to your local Rabbi as to how it applies.
arcParticipantI cringed at the headline but the OP made me shutter.
A forum this public cant be the right place for this topic but
Max Well is right that people “discriminate” against many things and very often look for yichus.
arcParticipantchaimmmm and others. Most Therapists work for agencies and (obviously) dont make the full amount the state pays. As such especially if you’re flexable with the times you can get it fairly reasonable.
Reasonable is relative but if you look at it as a whole instead of $X per hour (say $500) to help my child.
arcParticipantwhy would you ignore stuttering?
get your child evaluated for speech therapy. If you can help them earlier it will prevent it becoming a bigger issue.
An ounce of prevention…
arcParticipantI always wondered about the cake one. it doesnt make sense. his quote does.
arcParticipantcorn may not be good for them either;).
arcParticipantmy favorite yogism is “no one goes there anymore. it’s too crowded”
arcParticipantkasha that statement is factually incorrect.
arcParticipantThomas Edison and Univ. of Phoenix.
arcParticipantWolf I believe the issue is with the manufacturers having jewish ownership. Therefore it doesnt matter what the stores do.
arcParticipantMost secular teachers get less thann rebeim.
squeak most classes arent 30 kids and most kids have siblings in the school. Even using your numbers and Sjs’ 4 kids that’s $6800 in tuition money without taking into account any other expenses.
arcParticipantHello, good point but you have to be willing to live out of town.
arcParticipantMany yeshivos have decent starting salaries ($40K plus). Tutoring can get you good money but you dont see too many legitamate Rebbeim doing it.
arcParticipantI like the new site some adjusting maybe to get used too but cleaner and more professional looking.
arcParticipantI’m using IE and the side part of the page is cut off.
arcParticipantYour rant is over the top. You make a segula out to be an alternate God it isnt and no one implies it is.
Do you believe in R Meir bal hanes?
arcParticipantI went at 15 it was a great experience. very spirtual summer as opposed to a typical 15 year olds summer. I dont know if it had a lifelong effect on me but it was great.
arcParticipantyes a cappella.
arcParticipantyes its playing actual music (which I generally enjoy and listen to all day) and not sefirah “music”
arcParticipantNo, it just isnt playing it yet, so I asked.
arcParticipantWill YWN radio be playing sefira music?
arcParticipantOP the system is set up so that it favors them and they can get away with it.
Their feeling is why should I give an inch if she says no I have other options.
arcParticipantanyone know about montreal?
arcParticipantIronically Gatorade is called that because it was invented to give the Florida Gators football team an extra boost later in the game, it worked so well that it became a real drink.
Its not the biggest deal but I will be drinking it.
arcParticipantIts a fundraiser and they feel this brings in the most funds. Its not about promoting torah.
arcParticipantThe (mr. clean) magic eraser has worked wonders on crayons in my house.
rubbing alchohol has worked for pen on a screen for me. put some on a cloth and rub as gently as possible to remove it.
arcParticipantRabbi Roberts is a genuine and nice man that cares for each individual. The guys are down to eart yeshivish.
arcParticipantIshman- I explained what I meant in the next few words.
I’m not comfortable giving the parameters for your decision -not because I’m not confident in my opinion- because its based on my experience and there are so many factors that come into play.
I’m going to assume he isnt in one of the real “yeshivish yeshivas” because then it wouldnt be a question. So if he is in a yeshiva where it can go either way -DONT look at the COUNTRY look for the RIGHT YESHIVA and send him to whichever country it is in.
