July 20, 2015 9:36 pm at 9:36 pm in reply to: And I'm The One Disrespecting The Davening???!! #1092685apushatayidParticipant
So, the argument has changed, from disrespecting davening to this is how one acts all the time.
apushatayidParticipantSpeak to an authorized source, such as your Rav. Unauthorised sources are usually nothing more than lashon hara or worse, motsi shem ra.
If the cRc says they are recommended, you might start with them and ask what they know about the hechsher that they recommend it. You recall from years back, but have no idea if anything changed, yet you have no problem insinuating there is a problem. During the 9 days no less. I’m surprised the moderators allow your innuendo aimed at groups in general, and am even more surprised when you direct it at a specific group.
July 20, 2015 1:14 am at 1:14 am in reply to: And I'm The One Disrespecting The Davening???!! #1092662apushatayidParticipant@Joseph. So it’s a sign of respect at all times? So who is he respecting in the fruit store the cashier the stock boy?
Whoever it was who commented about western Europe and suits last I checked central and South America are not in western Europe.
July 19, 2015 2:57 am at 2:57 am in reply to: And I'm The One Disrespecting The Davening???!! #1092632apushatayidParticipantSushibagel. The mode of dress in Europe is not the same in south america or Australia. What is respectful in one place is silly in another. For example almost no-one wears a jacket and tie in central America it is too hot.
July 19, 2015 2:53 am at 2:53 am in reply to: And I'm The One Disrespecting The Davening???!! #1092631apushatayidParticipant@joseph. No. You probably meant to ask, is he disrespecting him. The answer is also no.
July 17, 2015 10:54 pm at 10:54 pm in reply to: And I'm The One Disrespecting The Davening???!! #1092626apushatayidParticipantSpeaking of disrespecting davening, I maintain those who learn during davening are doing the same.
July 17, 2015 10:51 pm at 10:51 pm in reply to: And I'm The One Disrespecting The Davening???!! #1092625apushatayidParticipantI would suggest talking during davening is way worse than not weading hat and jacket since the mechaber uses unusually harsh language towards such people.
July 17, 2015 10:32 pm at 10:32 pm in reply to: And I'm The One Disrespecting The Davening???!! #1092624apushatayidParticipantIf someone wears a hat and jacket all the time, shopping, walking in street, visiting his grandmother who is in rehab, how does wearing hat and jacket show respect for davening.
apushatayidParticipant“By this logic there wouldn’t be gallon containers of Chalav Stam in stores. Yet we see many gallon containers of Chalav stam in stores.”
The strategy of a large retailer such as walmart or target is not the same as the local jewish store. certain products are considered loss leaders. Is why you sometimes see a gas station sell a gallon of milk out of their convenience store for $3.49. Heimishe stores also use this concept, but slightly differently. Before the 9 days for example stores may be selling things such as fish and pasta at lower prices to get you into the store. Some stores actually sell meat at a very low price during the 9 days to get you into the store. Unfortunately, for the chalav yisroel consumer, milk is usually not part of that strategy.
apushatayidParticipant“Yekkes are never late.”
Or early.
apushatayidParticipant“I disagree with every point apushatayid made in that post.”
I have no desire to rehash an already closed thread.
apushatayidParticipant“it does give added reason to be makpid on cholov and givinas Yisroel”
I’ll be sure to keep this in mind when purchasing cheese in Serbia.
“I wonder why I don’t see gallon containers of Chalav Yisroel in local stores.”
It doesnt make sense for the producers and sellers. As a general rule of thumb, the larger the size, the lower the unit cost. In the case of milk, if for example, half gallon sells for $2.99 – a gallon will sell for say $4.79 (not $4.98) this is true of the quart and half gallon sizes sold already. You the consumer will buy the same gallon of milk whether you buy it in a gallon container or in 2 half gallon containers. From the perspective of the milk company, why should they leave 20 cents on the table gallon after gallon. From the perspective of the store owners (no I didnt measure, but I did ask a store owner in my neighborhood about something similar), more shelf space is required for a gallon bottle than 2 half gallons. the store owner puts less product at a lower price out for his customers. How does he win? Of course given the average family size, bli ayin hara, of the chalv yisroel consuming family, gallon sized containers makes a lot of sense from the consumer perspective.
apushatayidParticipantsure there is equality. everyone is equally accountable for not being the best yid they could be with the tools given to them by Hashem.
apushatayidParticipantJoseph, YOU (and others) use it as a derogatory term. Originally there was NO term for it. People started calling it chalav akum, despite Rav Moshes psak. Kashrus agencies started calling it chalav stam to differentiate it from actual cholov yisroel which was the term used by those who were promoting their milking being supervised by a jew. The term was then coopted by those who share the sentiments of joseph here and user it as a pejorative term.
In short, everyone uses it as a descriptive term. some choose to use it negatively.
apushatayidParticipantI agree, tofu and just sitting around is not a party. I would imagine this isnt what happens at these tzedaka bbqs. surely isnt what happened at the bbq that recently took place and whose pictures are posted here on ywn.
apushatayidParticipant“Cholov stam” is not a pejorative.”
As it relates to this discussion, yes it is. Just ask those who popularized its use 40 years ago. I admit, its a lot better than the term chalav akum used by some.
apushatayidParticipantwhy would it be ok? the 9 days are not days for partying. even for a good cause.
apushatayidParticipant“Why do these rabbonim hold that it is preferable to use CY if CS is muttar?”
Perhaps their mispallelim are baalei nefesh or close enough to that level that they feel it appropriate for them? The citation (n idea where it is snipped from) doesnt imply that those rabbonim say they must.
apushatayidParticipant“There is the fact that a baal nefesh should refrain from CS even though its muttar.”
1: I think that people should stop referring to it as chalav stam. It is a pejorative term created by those who disagreed with r’ moshes psak. His psak covers what he calls chalav hacompanies.
2: the discussion should not focus on the milk or ice cream one consumes, but how to reach the level of baal nefesh where r’ moshes charge to baalei nefesh applies.
apushatayidParticipant“Are there different shittos about chalav yisroel”
No. All agree there is a takanas chazal. There is disagreement whether the commercial milk sold in the USA under government oversight and regulation satisfies this takanas chazal.
“or do people just make up their own rules.”
Personally, I dont know a large enough percentage of “people” to state one way or another what “people” do or dont do.
“chalav stam”
the proper term is chalav shel hakompanies – IE milk produced under government oversight and regulation.
“And what about products on dairy equipment only. Is that considered chalav stam.”
You mean, chalav shel hacompanies, right?
“On a side note, I am amazed the number of people who no longer or who never have adhered to chalav yisroel.”
I am hard pressed to find anyone who does not. I am familiar with people who drink milk labeled chalav yisroel, and people who drink chalav produced under government oversight and regulation which according to their poskim satisfy the takanas chazal.
apushatayidParticipantwhen did artscroll become a nusach? 🙂
apushatayidParticipanthow far out of the way do you want to travel? you can jump off 78 and go to west orange/livingston, or into elizabeth, or stop in staten island, or eat in allentown before you head home.

The Ramban says this explicitely on the Passuk Kedoshim Tihyu. He uses the term “menuval b’rishus hatorah”.

June 30, 2015 7:50 pm at 7:50 pm in reply to: "Challah Connection" Supports Toeiva Marriage #1089435apushatayidParticipantI used Reismans as an example. Could just as easily have used any one of the other heimishe brands out there. I happened to be eating reismans rugelach at the time of writing.

They do NOT certify this company. this company is reselling products certified by these companies.

apushatayidParticipantMilk5. Yes. Lo signov is a lav dioraisa. Toameha is not an asay dioraisa to apply asay docha lo saseh. Moreover the cook took care of the toameha to ensure the food tasted fine.
apushatayidParticipantAnd were violating the the laws of gezel as per the torah, since the yeshiva made it very clear that it was forbidden to do so. I dont suppose you advocate fulfilling a “mitzvah” al pi kaballa by violating a dioraiisa.
apushatayidParticipantwikipedia does not count as a reliable resource for diabetes.
if your diabetes is so out of control, may i suggest looking for a new endo. if you need a referral call rabbi meisels of FWD.
apushatayidParticipantperhaps you are davening in the wrong places
June 18, 2015 1:53 am at 1:53 am in reply to: Pics of Simchas where family specifically request not to share on social media. #1087294apushatayidParticipantIf the baalei simcha specifically ask not to “share” their simcha with cyberspace, why does a guest feel it is appropriate to do so?
June 17, 2015 8:46 pm at 8:46 pm in reply to: Pics of Simchas where family specifically request not to share on social media. #1087285apushatayidParticipantMobico. So, if I followed you around all day and generally creeped you out, thats not good. But if I discreetly (ok, even not discreetly, but against your wishes) took photos of you and posted them online for all to see, you could care less? why?
Admittedly, I have know nothing about Hezek Re’iyah, but where do you get the idea that it is related to “self concious”? Why do you believe that nobody is not self concious about their photos posted online for all the world to see?
apushatayidParticipantyou could ask mbd if he would be willing to share a few.
June 17, 2015 6:39 pm at 6:39 pm in reply to: Pics of Simchas where family specifically request not to share on social media. #1087277apushatayidParticipantPeople can have all sorts of expectations. The torahs is “mah tovu Ohalecha Yackov”. Posting ones entire life online smacks of the opposite. Posting other people online is just worse. Just my opinion. so, if you invite me to your simcha, you can be sure you wont find photos of yourself, or any of your invited guests, online.

It is precisely because of this, that I don’t go to these places. Or take my sons.

One could ask, why the photographer is in attendance at such a place. but I wont.
June 17, 2015 4:02 pm at 4:02 pm in reply to: Pics of Simchas where family specifically request not to share on social media. #1087266apushatayidParticipantWhat is the thrill for someone to take a picture of a simcha and post it online especially when asked by the baalei simcha not to? what does one gain from it except for some warped sense of empowerment? what thrill does one get from seeing person a eating kugel at a simcha whether that picture is online or the centerfold of the yated.
June 17, 2015 3:41 pm at 3:41 pm in reply to: Pics of Simchas where family specifically request not to share on social media. #1087263apushatayidParticipantI wonder if the halachos of “hezek ri’ya” can somehow be applied to unauthorized photos being taken of people and then uploaded to the internet. I guess we need the choshen mishpat experts to weight on.
apushatayidParticipant“Cant generalize or make assumptions when it comes to diabetes….”
Or asthma, or high blood pressure, or what yeshiva someone learned in, or what seminary one attended.
June 16, 2015 2:26 pm at 2:26 pm in reply to: The real reason for the ban against chassidish women driving? #1086979apushatayidParticipantMany “news” sites are actually blogs with the way editors report what they want, slanting it it the way they see fit via the photos they use or they headlines they write.
apushatayidParticipantwhat’s the hang up with driving? are you looking to start a taxi service?
apushatayidParticipant“Maybe this is why I am not aware of any diabetics who own a continuous glucose monitoring system.”
Lo Rainu Aino Raya. I know more than a dozen.
“Most insurance companies as well as Medicare do not cover continuous glucose monitoring systems and feel the higher costs are not justified.”
If I could, I would post an EOB from Empire Blue Cross for a CHP plan where a CGM is covered.
To be corrected of your “facts”, I would suggest you contact an endocrinologist in your neighborhood.

Good question. Probably better posed to those who run “news sites”.

apushatayidParticipantIt is precisely because of people like cherrybim that many people do not disclose their diabetes. They only Do so after 2,3 sometimes after 4 dates. All under the guidance of rabbonim.
Cherrybim, may I sugguest you reach out to an organization such as Friends with diabetes to cure some of your ignorance and before your ignorance hurts people.
