Well, I have heard the tablecloth question. Truthfully, I couldnt believe it when I heard it but it wasnt as outrageous as the ankles question I once got (does she have skinny ankles!).

why do we think medical marijuana is for pot heads only? is there a law on the books anywhere that it must be prescribed by a tie dyed t shirt wearing hippie listening to bob marley music?

So I presume you would agree that going to “learn” in E’Y is not for all guys either.

“Often the father and/or the bochor will advise the wife/mother what questions to ask, what points to tell the shadchanim, etc. “

And just as often the mother asks questions that the father/son would be mortified if they knew she even asked.

“First of all, the boys father has as much to do, and more to do, with the boys’ shidduchim than the mother.”

Interesting. Most young men in shidduchim I have spoken to, specifically about shidduchim, always mention running it by their mother, asking if I can give the info directly to their mother or can their mother call me for more info. Almost never is the father the one to run things by, the one to follow up with or the one to follow up. Perhaps its just me.

Ohr Naava is not a seminary. It is a night program for women. I do suggest calling Rabbi Wallerstien or Rabbi Ronnie Greenwald about this particular girl though to see what they can advise.

Go up and down the aisles of your local supermarket, paying special attention to the laundry detergent and cleaning product supplies aisle. Sadly, kashrus symbols have become marketing tools for many companies and the kashrus agencies are only too happy to oblige them.

“Sure, if you include the chores he needs to do because he can’t afford an at home babysitter.

Being in Kollel is a life of Mistapek B’muat, and an at-home babysitter is a luxury that most can’t afford”

Generalizations are a bad idea. I know many working families that can not afford an at home babysitter and I know many kollel families that do (although most people I know that utilize a babysitter do not have an at home for the simple reason that it is more cost effective to bring the child/baby to the babysitter)

What is flawed is me and you ranking everyone else. That is flawed and wrong. Sure we should all say when will I reach the level of my fathers but that is to ensure our own continuous growth. Not to declare someone better or worse. If a Kollel person inspires someone that a great. If a Kollel person is inspired by someone also great. Its not mine or your place to rank groups of people.

Ateres naava is not run by rabbi wallerstien. It is run by rav Yackov yitzchok greenberg. Ohr naava is run by wallerstien. Ateres naava is a post high school seminary. The age of such girls is typically 18 and up. This thread asked for seminary not high school assistance. What you are really looking for is a place for a 16 year old that is not a high school.

Seems simple enough. Someone found their website. Contact them. Ask them their standards. You are concerned with the kale, ask them how they check it for bugs. Ask them how they enforce their standards.

I will say this. I am an “orthodox, ben yeshiva with many years experience in kashrus”, dont trust my hechsher because I flaunt those qualifications. They are meaningless. Even if I am an expert in the relevent halachos, if I have a poor system to manage those standards, my knowledge is useless.

RebYid. that is quite illogical. she is not providing the shadchan anything. If she doesnt want to listen to the shadchans suggestions, she could just say no, go away, not interested. Alternatively, if she feels that her spending time with the shadchan is a service she is providing for the shadchan, let her charge for her time.

“The shadchan needs the girl or else he has nothing to offer the boys.”

“who has not provided her with a service.”

From the shadchans perspective, perhaps spending 30 minutes with you IS a service. Why is the shadchans time any less valuable than yours or mine? Perhaps we should take the analogy to a lawyer one step further. Perhaps if the shadchan was able to charge a $50 fee to meet with a young man or young lady he/she would have the resources to hire an assistant to help answer phone calls, emails, texts, mesages etc. As it is right now, for their initial free meeting all they get is kvetching, whining and complaining in forums such as these.

“I meant that girls do sometimes take things that their seminaries tell them VERY literally, and they are likely to say no more quickly than they probably should have because of it.”

Another reason to keep your daughter in a seminary close to home and not halfway around the world. You get to discuss with her daily what lessons she learned etc. and to cure her of any misguided ideas.

“Do you think girls don’t know if boys reject them??”

Of course they do. One of the worst things plaguing shidduchim today is guys talking with their friends about girls they have met and girls talking with their friends about boys who they met. Guys get labeled, girls get labeled, and nobody wants to be the one to buck the trend, so those names get tossed aside.

Lets flip it around. Give the girls the names of the guys first.

“1) from a frum perspective and having bitochon there is no reason a young 22 year old boy sitting and learning needs a “plan”. Look at the thousand of boys who have gotten married without a “plan” and are b’h doing great even financially. Apparently their “plan” is to trust in Hashem, which in my humble opinion is a great plan!”

This is not a plan. This is called sitting on your tuchas and doing nothing except make believe you are frum, like a pig who sticks out its split hooves.

Trump brings a positive to the table though. For too long public thinking and political correctness has swung way left. His faaaar right rhetoric is forcing discussion in this country and to some degree public thinking even among democrats is moving towards the center. Even our leftist president announced plans to review certain visa plans and programs currently in place.
