I think its a good idea to be involved with shidduchim. It’s a bad idea to deliberately waste someones time. If you think it’s a good idea, suggest it, and the parties involved disagree, they will say no thanks.

“the 2 biggest ones are Kitnyot and Selichot”

These are not hashkafos. they are minhagim in halacha.

“Also a boy who is considered a long time learner these days is no longer a gauge.”

    “long term learner”.

Its a meaningless phrase, like “tops in the yeshiva” or outgoing, but not too outgoing”.

“What are the most popular dinner & dancing music currently being played?”

The really loud ones that hurt your ears, and the vibrations go through your kishkes. The songs are so loud, noone has been able to identify what is actually being played, if anything. Its lots of boom, boom boom with a little clarinet and trumpet thrown in for good measure. I’m not sure anyone has (or can) copyrighted that noise yet.

I would start with requiring that all rebbeim/moros send their own children to the schools they teach in. Either way, they are going to get a reduction, at least, let the school that employs the parent subsidize that childs tuition, as a “perk” not a different one.

Just think of all those non jewish who work so hard to ensure our yeshiva bachurim, certainly a very tiny slice of the general population, have white shirts to wear. Charles Tyrwhit, Paul Fredrick, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and many, many, many others.

“But having teachers as slaves is?”
Anyone can walk away at any time. In fact, they likely knew going in that they would end up in the predicament being discussed.

“If a parent has 5+ kids and is expected to pay 10K+ in tuition for them, thatā€™s a crisis.”
Please name one Yeshiva that demands this from every family.

“When a yeshiva asks for 10K+ in tuition per student, pays its staff minimally, and canā€™t be bothered to pay them on time, itā€™s not a crisis; itā€™s just mismanagement.”

I will agree with this statement if the word “asks” is replaced with “gets”. You show me a Yeshiva that gets that tuition from every student, and I will show you a school with a highly qualified, professional staff that is well paid, on time. Every other Yeshiva does not get anywhere near that kind of tuition per student and as a result their highly qualified staff is underpaid, and is often behind on payroll and other bills.

” And yes, I would say teachers should take one out of the power companiesā€™ books and be less forgiving. They shouldnā€™t be taken advantage of.”

If halacha allows it, I’m all for it. I’ll stand with them in the picket line if they felt it would be beneficial.

“Rebbes and Morahā€™s are more forgiving than the Banks or Power Companies.”

You wouldnt know it from threads such as this. Right from the opening message in this thread, yeshiva administrators are labeled as flaunting a sugya in shas and a whole siman in shulchan aruch. Since we are ok with using such broad brushes, lets label all parents who do not pay tuition deadbeats.

When it comes to the tuition paying parent and their inability (unwillingness?) to pay we call it “a crisis”. Yet, when it comes to the yeshiva administrators who fall behind in salaries, we label them low lifes who flaunt the shulchan aruch.

    How convenient.

“Great Value Milk is OU-certified (when bearing the OU symbol). ”

The Great Value milk sold in the Walmart Supercenter in Harrison, NJ, which qualifies as the greater NY area, does NOT have an OU.

And, how do you know I’m not Joseph?

Rav Moshes psak is not a heter. It is a psak that says the government oversight and regulation satisfies the concerns of chazal that required chalav yisroel to begin with. Despite that, he DOES say that a baal nefesh should consume what we call chalav yisroel, even at a greater cost.

“So those relying on Rav Mosheā€™s heter for Cholov Stam should drink such non-hechsher milk in the U.S. just as they would drink OU-D milk in the U.S.”

Only if it is straight milk. Look at the ingredient panel, sometimes vitamins and other things are added which may require a hechsher. again, dont believe me, call your Rav, or one of the kashrus agencies.

If it DOES have a hechsher, what would it imply?

“Itā€™s an inyan of derech eretz, ”

It could be a doraisa of “mipnei seiva takum” (my rav mentions this several times a year in context of weddings. people stand for the chassan and kallah – for whatever reason – and aside from some family, how many people stand for the grandparents who walk down to the chuppa, where it is a doraisa to stand for them).

“Most, if not all, cholov haā€companiesā€ have top notch reliable hashgachas.”

While this statement is true, in of itself, it should NOT be misconstrued, twisted and then extrapolated that the hechsher is certifying that the milk in the product is in fact milk from a cow (or other kosher source). In fact, it is NOT. They rely on the psak of R’ Moshe that if the company says it is cows milk, it is cows milk. They do NOT have someone at the farm verifying the source of the milk. This is true even if the certification is on nothing more than a container of milk. (why the hechsher is on the milk may be as simple as the contract with the certifying agency and the company, or, there may be things added to the milk that require hechsher).

As always, do not rely on something you read on the internet. Call the OU, OK, ChafK or any other hechsher that certifies products made with “chalav hacompanies” for yourself and ask them directly, what their symbol on a container of milk implies, if anything.

@Gadolahadora. So, since all baalei simcha are as sensible as you assert, this discussion about sitting in others seats is moot, since there is always plenty of space for everyone. siddurim and chumashim too. and place at the kiddush, and food.

“Are colored shirts okay for Shabbos?” Is there an inyan to specifically wear white on shabbos? If there is, then that would answer why not.

“Are shorts okay instead of full length pants?” I wouldnt swim in full length pants.

“Are white sneakers okay instead of black shoes?” If I was playing basketball I would wear white sneakers over any color shoes, every time.

This could all be avoided if people in a shul welcomed guests and helped them find a seat, siddur or anything else they might need.

This could be avoided if a shul with 40 seats and 38 regular mispallelim was expecting an additional 25 mispallelim for a simcha, planned accordingly by bringing in extra chairs and/or siddurim. If there is no physical space to do so, that is poor planning on the part of the baal simcha.

As it relates to this topic, everyone should be concerned about the dress of their own wife and daughter. As it relates to someone elses wife or daughter, try to be mechazek your friend so that HE can address whatever is necessary with his wife and daughters if need be. If you dont know how, speak to your Rav or Rebbetzin, or your friends Rav, or or Rebbetzin.

Several years ago, an op-ed in mishapacha magazine by Rav Leib Kelman, titled “where are the men” hit on an important point often overlooked in these discussion. Where are the husbands and fathers of these women.

It’s easy to point fingers at the women, but, like Rabbi Kelman asked in the article, the male gender has gone awol on this topic.
