“If there are no specifics how can anyone render an opinion?”

Nobody, least of all the letter writer, asked for an opinion. You are off the hook.

“I fervently disagree. You should tell them who you are and why youโ€™re calling.”

Obviously. that is true of any phone call you make. The question is, what do you say after the introduction and my answer is, nothing. Ask questions and let them talk.

The story speaks for itself. The “need for details” smacks of voyeurism and an almost deliberate attempt to miss the point of the letter.

The bottom line is. Do you know someone like the person depicted in the letter, male or female? Do you make believe they dont exist or do you try and reach out to them with a smile, a good morning, a hello and if able an invite? Do you treat the “yaffas” of the world, their parents and siblings like lepers to the point that you ask that be sent out of the machne so to speak, like a metzora? Thats the message the letter writer is trying to make. Wake up and smell the coffee. If you did this to Yaffa, ask for mechila and prove you mean it by not kicking the next yaffa to the curb.

    1. What are the advantages of going to BMG, for the majority that chooses to do so, despite the apparent greater difficulty of establishing a kesher โ€“ compared to a smaller BM.

They can slip through the cracks, slack off and none would be the wiser, except for perhaps their chavrusah and some members of the chaburah they join, while maintaining the “image” needed for shidduchim.

    2. What reasons would BMG decline to accept a talmid.

    They see through the ruse.

I think a fair, halachically acceptable discussion to be had is; what might drive an otherwise ehrlich person to commit the type of fraud it is alledged these people perpetrated. Is it nothing more than greed? Is it sheer and utter desperation to make ends meet? Is it social pressure to keep up with the joneses (or in this case the cohens)? Honest introspection might help prevent this from happening again.

Is it assur to advertise a house for sale that comes with a driveway, when there is no driving done on that way? In fact, may you even call it a driveway? Is it lying to give someone directions and tell them to take the parkway, when in fact by law one not may not park on that road?

Shemiras… The parents inform the school of their childs allergies. The school is obligated to keep the child safe in school. The school on its own determines the easiest way (for them) to keep the child safe is to ban peanuts.

If I was a school administrator, faced with a choice between dealing with a potential life threatening situation or a kid who only eats PB sandwiches, i’d opt for the latter. finicky eaters mature, dead kids dont.

(Meno. You are correct. i gave up on analogy after autocorrect on my phone kept changing the word to something else. It kept correlation, so I used it. one of these days i’ll learn how to disable it. )

“dictate your needs to hundreds of other kids instead”

why assume it is the parent of the allergic child who is dictating anything? Perhaps it is the administration of the school, because they must, by law, accommodate the student and the peanut ban is the easiest way for them to do so.

is there a true correlation between peanut allergies and sports injuries? those who participate in organized (and not so organized) sports assume and accept a certain level of risk that is inherent in all sports. as it relates to peanut allergies, the risk is assumed for them by those who consume them in their presence.

i think schools should have peanut safe zones, like certain public facilities still have designated smoking areas. you dont wish to inhale second hand smoke, stay away from this area. Same with possible exposure to peanuts. schools should make sure that they dont “carry” the exposure with them from that zone by making sure they wipe/wash/rise, etc…

“(if I understand you correctly to be wrongly assuming itโ€™s a parenting issue)”

there is a lot of assuming going on here. I assume you have no idea what my opinion is, and I assume (actually I am almost certain), I have no idea what your opinion is.

To be clear. I have no issues if a school bans peanuts and other foodstuffs if their are students with allergies (I pay tuition to such a school). to those who say, well my shuey or ruchy wont eat anything but a pb&j sandwich, I say, be a parent.

    Is Iron Dome the solution?

Syag. I dont know what you are asking me. I dont know if you are in favor or against peanut free school policies. I was simply saying why is it such a big deal, if you want your kids to have peanuts and peanut based products, stuff them with it outside of school. Nobody ever died from not having peanut based products.

I didnt read much of the OPs original post, or many of the replies.

just wish to comment. Is it SO terrible if a child goes without peanuts or peanut based foods/snacks during school hours? So, peanuts, peanut butter and (insert your favorite food/snack containing peanuts here) isnt available to the student from 8am to 4pm. Is it the end of the world?

“Have you spoken to a woman in real life who specifically and verbally expressed said feelings?”

Yes. Her reason. She is busy living life for herself and furthering her enjoyment and pleasure, and doesnt want kids to get in the way of that pursuit. She is very vocal about this. she expresses it every time someone in the company has a baby, or mentions their kids (especially in the context of having to take care of them, such as, I took my son to doctor). She is overall a very self centered person.

    Joseph,

There were many talmidei chachamin in the US 125 years ago. america was not a spiritual wasteland. the r problem was chinuch for the next generation(s). for the most part it wasnt on the radar screen of the majority of immigrants who came for economic opportunities. we see the sad results.

Many of the criticisms against hatzalah at their founding by the nyc ems, are the very same ones being leveled against EN today in this forum.

Of course, the accomplishments of a fledgling organization will pale in comparison to one that is 50 years old.

An older flatbush hatzalah member (member since at least 1981 – I know since he responded to a call my family had to make) once stated that the original plan for hatzalah included a womens division. If i’m not mistaken, hatzala of new square has women who are members. i’m not advocating women become members of hatzalah, my point is, there seems to be a negative response by some simply because they are women.
