Of course community schools are disappearing., the entire concept of community is disappearing. See CTlawyers comment.
apushatayidParticipantThe citation from Drudge report isnt so much a defense of smoking as much as it is a defense of someones right to smoke despite all the risks without being called an idiot, or worse.
I saw a bumper sticker in the 80s. “Cancer cures smoking. “
apushatayidParticipantBefore calling anything the “gold standard”, it behooves the consumer to learn what standards are followed by the hechsher they are looking to rely on, and then equally important, determine what procedures they have in place to ensure those standards are being met.
apushatayidParticipant“I hope that the success of the shidduch doesnโt depend on how he drives on a shidduch, ”
So, if he drives like a maniac, flips the bird at other drivers and curses them out, that shouldnt count towards the “success of the date”?
apushatayidParticipantfrustrated and disappointed doesnt necessarily mean “bad date”.
apushatayidParticipantYou are passing off your assumptions as facts with the caveat that it really isnt a good idea to generalize.
apushatayidParticipant“Its difficult to generalize”, yet….
apushatayidParticipantYou are correct. If the references would be straight forward and state; he is a boor, a bore, smells like a boar, dresses like a slob, has the middos of a racoon and is a self absorbed baby, and in fact he turns out to be just that, you are correct, they have nothing to complain about. However, when they are told he is the creme de la creme of his yeshiva, the gaonis to be the next rosh yeshiva, with middos that make him a shoo in as the next mashgiach, and he turns out to be a boor etc… they have every right to complain. either they were lied to by the references, or the guy was deliberately a jerk.
apushatayidParticipantI dont know what you consider “cheap android phone”. I have Netspark installed on an LG Stylo. works the way it is supposed to.

apushatayidParticipantHarder? Thats a good one.
apushatayidParticipantPeople will commit crimes no matter what, should we roll out the red carpet and make it easy for them? That is a foolish argument.
apushatayidParticipantYou could have ended the thread title after the word had. There is not a single positive tho g you Can say about her as a senator.

August 2, 2017 12:58 pm at 12:58 pm in reply to: Additional Societal Casualties Of The Shidduch Crisis #1330835apushatayidParticipantIn my limited social circle. I am aware of 2 divorced men (both approaching 50) with 5 and 4 children respectively who remarried recently. One to a never married 39 year old and one to a 46 year old who was married at 21 and divorced 4 months later. I am also aware of a single 44 year woman old who is pretty close to getting engaged to a divorced 49 year old with several children. Critical mass? Hardly. Critical mass in my limited social circle, perhaps.
apushatayidParticipantNo. I’m leveling sarcasm at those who naively believe eliyahu hanavi needs a website or social media to get out their message. your response abot a top level domain .torah only feeds the stupid notion that it is even necessary.
apushatayidParticipantWe are the Am Segula.
apushatayidParticipantSince the internet is “treif” and the smartphones a keli of the satan, it is clear that eliyahu hanavi will not use these mediums to herald the arrival of moshiach, nor will they be used to broadcast his torah.
July 28, 2017 11:15 am at 11:15 am in reply to: cost of living for a young couple in lakewood #1327559apushatayidParticipantThat is something each and every couple should discuss with each other, their parents and rabbeim when they are first starting out.
July 28, 2017 10:55 am at 10:55 am in reply to: cost of living for a young couple in lakewood #1327550apushatayidParticipantthis is very shortsighted budgeting and planning. every young couple hopes that in a years time they are parents, they also hope the husband is still learning in a kollel. the newborn wont take care of itself, nor will it come with a year supply of diapers and formula. childcare, as well as the feeding and clothing of this child will have to be paid for. if the mother goes back to work daycare must be budgeted for, and if she doesnt, the money tree better be in full bloom.
July 27, 2017 3:56 pm at 3:56 pm in reply to: cost of living for a young couple in lakewood #1327302apushatayidParticipantIt is, but when a woman is working full time she doesnt always time to bake challah for shabbos. sometimes she doesnt have the time, or the energy too cook every single meal, from scratch. those are the realities of life today. Yes, our bubbes in europe made their own lokshen and kashered their own chickens, the only problem is they are not available to cook and prepare meals for todays young couples.

I am not going to offer a synopsis of what he said, dont bother asking me. A synopsis wont do it justice anyway. Get a hold of a recording (they gave away copies after the gathering last night) and listen to the whole thing.
apushatayidParticipantI thought it was Av, not Adar.

shushan gazette
apushatayidParticipant“What led to WWI?, etcโฆ”
The chet of the meraglim (you cried for nothing, I will give you something to cry about), which delayed going into e’y, which ultimately led to moshe rabbeinu not leading the bnei yisroel into e’y, eventually made its way to the churban bayis rishon and sheini, this long galus and all its trials and tribulations. When did the bnei yisroel cry for no reason? The night of tisha bav. So, one can legitimatelystate that everything IS rooted in tisha bav.

Wouldnt it make sense to hold such an event when the chevra is around to attend?

I will say, the insinuation that the Rma with MB would endorse planning such an event for the 9 days is misleading, at best.

Your right, better drunk and puking in the dorm, than listening to the occasional ballgame. I guess, you guide your bachurim with your derech, and I will let my sons be guided by their rabbeim, who happen to disagree with you.
July 19, 2017 5:36 pm at 5:36 pm in reply to: Should we stop bochurim from chilling and drinking beer at a bbqs.๐ป๐ #1321484apushatayidParticipantBack when I was in Yeshiva, we were allowed to relax and let off steam by playing basketball, baseball, football (I was in a cold climate, so football in the snow was a favorite) listened to the occasional game or bob grant on the radio. Now, these pastimes are considered treif, (a side affliction of this is that a good bachur would almost never be caught dead in a non learning camp, despite the fact that the good bachurim are needed as proper role models for the younger boys in camp, and they are only available bein hazmanim – rabbi bender shlita has mentioned this in the past, but noone, except parents of boys in camp, realize just how serious this is) but, young men still need to let off steam and relax, and being the good guys they are, are not sneaking off to bars, and drinking beer has become the means to let off steam and relax.
As the father of a number of young men “in the dorm”, I trust their judgement that they wont do anything stupid, but, young men being young men, it is inevitable that some do. As a parent, proper chinuch, followed up by tefilla, and more tefilla, is what keeps me from worrying all day, every day.

The mechaber would say no. The 1st halacha in Yoreh Deah is “hakol kisherim lishchot, afilu nashim”, didnt see any nosei keilim that limit this to the bearded women one finds at boardwalk freak shows.
July 19, 2017 2:13 pm at 2:13 pm in reply to: Should we stop bochurim from chilling and drinking beer at a bbqs.๐ป๐ #1321079apushatayidParticipantThe question to ask is. What does it mean “chilling”. Where are they doing this chilling? Who are they doing it with? How often? What else goes on at these “chill sessions”? Are they of legal age to purchase this beer, and drink it? If not, how did they get it? Finally, why davka beer? Are they unable to “chill” with a coke or pepsi?

July 19, 2017 10:03 am at 10:03 am in reply to: SHOCKING Letter Published In Lakewood Newspaper โก๐ฐ #1320733apushatayidParticipant“The only problem with your theory is that schools check out the students beforehand.”
My son was rejected from a brooklyn pre-school because they “checked” with a neighbor who told them we owned a TV. Unfortunately, they “checked” with a “neighbor” who had moved away almost 3 years before the “checking”, and this “neighbor” had no idea that 2.5 years before they were asked, we had thrown out our TV. I hope they have improved their standard of “checking”.

This is directed at the alleged actions of the school, where they notified the family of the change by informing the girl in school, on the first day of school. it would have been hard enough on her had they called the house the night before, spoken to the parents who would have had the difficult task of breaking the news to their daughter, but they would have done so with compassion, let her cry our her frustration etc… but, to inform the girl, in school a mistake was made and send her home?
apushatayidParticipant“How do you know? Are you on Hatzolah?”
Is it necessary to be a member of hatzalah to know what their guidelines are?
Read the “madrich” for the BP members and what their poskim hold. It is different than the madrich for the flatbush members, who follow different poskim. You can buy it online.
