MYFRIEND: I tried to edit what I wrote because I figured someone would write that. Hopefully the MODS will allow my ammended comment through. If not. This is what the ammended comment said “Leave the mussar and the tochacha to the Rabbonim until you learn all the relevant halachos related to giving mussar and tochacha. Please.”

I don’t know WHAT snapfish thinks. They do send a code that works once, per email address 🙂

They are not in the business, I don’t think of tracking the IP address of everyone who logs onto or creates an account on their site.

“Do we want Moshiach or not? I know it’s a hard thing to work on, but who said things have to be easy…. let’s all work on this together! “

If everyone worked on their own shortcomings instead of focusing on the shortcomings of everyone else, we stand a good chance of seeing moshiach. Today.

IS the term Prutza appropriate? I have yet to see a single gadol who speaks or writes (or has spoken and written) about tznius issues, use this term the way it is being used and about those it is being used here. Of course, the YWN gedolim and poskim are free to use whatever terms they want.

I wonder if those who yell “zona”, “prutza” and hide under the guise of “kavod shamayim” yell just as loud and just as long about those who create a chillul hashem by double parking, try to return something that they can not (or should not), argue long and loud with the sales associates who try to collect sales tax, those who are rude to the teller in the bank (dressed tzniusdik to the letter of every chumra and clearly identified as jewish of course) (the list is endless)?

I cant find anywhere on YWN anyone beseeching yidden to wake up and stop creating a chillul hashem in all their interactions. Why not?

    Two points:

It is normally the role of the husband/father to ensure proper hashkafa is found in the home. This includes Tznius. As a husband and father, I agree that my wife is able to impart ideas about tznius to my daughter, way better than I can ever hope to, however, my wife looks to me for guidance on what it and is not proper, in fact, she demands it, as the husband/father of the family. So, in many ways this does in fact start with the men.

Another thing that simply does not help this discussion in any way are senten ces such as this “In other words, if both know very well that it is wrong to behave and dress like a zona,”. Zona? Hyperbole such as this simply turns people off.

I don’t understand the question. Monetary issues must be decided in beis din, not secular court. Permission to utilize secular courts must be granted by beis din in all situations, not just monetary issues that arise during divorce proceedings.

Someone one who utlizes secular courts without permission of beis din is called someone in halacha. Just don’t remember to term. Halacha does view monetary “gains” via secular courts as gezel IF no permission to utilize the courts was granted by a beis din.

There are signifigant differences in xtian doctrine and what you hear at a levaya.

    The main one.

The xtians believe that oso ish suffered and died (the suffering is not as critical as the dying, but since the suffering is mentioned in the passuk they shoehorn this concept into, they talk about it as well) as a means of a “kappara” for all mankind since we can no longer bring karbanos. This is based on another “pshat” they shoehorn into another passuk about “blood” being the only form of kappara available to people. Their doctrine states that unless you believe that oso ish died for your aveiros, you will never, ever have a kaparra and are damned for all eternity. This belief is a lot different that the statement that the ribbono shel olam sometimes brings a punishment on an individual as a means to wake up an entire tzibbur for introspection and tshuva. Moreover, unless each individual does tshuva for their individual situations they are not given a kappara and will be held accountable in shaymayim (in contrast to the xtian doctrine that an individual is not required to do tshuva, or the tshuva doesnt help – depends on the denomination- without believing that oso ish already died for you).

May we all be zoche to a tshuva shlaima and a ksiva vchasima tova.

I HATED it when a father would try to faher me on a date, but I usually went along with it, until one time one guy just rubbed me the wrong way. I borrowed the line of one of the Gerer Rebbes (I think it was the chiddushei harim) and asked him if I could faher him back. After all, I have just as much an achrayus to marry a bas talmid chacham as he has to marry his daughter off to a talmid chacham. Somehow he forgot about the gemara and offered me cake and soda and started making some light talk 🙂

Not sure what your budget is. There is a new “yom tov” cookbook that’s out, its about fifteen dollars. A nice piece of costume jewelry for 25-50 dollars. A new machzor. If she doesn’t have one regularly a cleaning lady a couple of days before and/or after yom tov. Lots of possibilities. You know what your spouse would appreciate most.

We have difficulties with our tenage son on yom tov, trying to figure out how to bolus for those every so often yom tov treats such as Tzimis, stuffed cabbage, a roast likavod yom tov cooked up in a sauce that probably has 90 carbs for every 8 ounces of sauce etc…

Rabbi Meisels of FWD has been a trmendous resource for over 10 years, and despite his advice and encourangement my son has blood sugars over 300 a few hours after the seudah almost every time.

My son has also been to several shabbatonim Rabbi Meisels has made for boys and has come back with soooo much chizuk after each one. He is a malach (his Rebbetzin too).

Isnt excercise by its very nature acting in an untsniuddik manner? Personally, I dont do much excercise (as my belly can testify) so I cant speak from first hand knowledge, but from excercise book ive tried to read, it seems much of the excercise done, and certainly at classes would entail acting in an untznius manner including bending and twisting the body in all sorts of ways probably not intended naturally.

Mod 42. For the record, the answer to your question is yes. Perhaps I wasn’t clear. Let’s forget for a moment how the woman is dressed during excercise, the act of excercising in and of itself it in many cases not tzniusdkik. The question should really be, are the laws of tznius somehow different in front of non jewish men with excercise being just one example.

Regarding males at a female production, I remember seeing in the igros moshe that under extenuating circumstances (in the case of the shayla it would have caused a tremendous machlokes in the area) men would be allowed to attend as long as the girls were less than 11 years old, if older he held it was assur. Bli neder later today will provide the source in igros moshe.

Mod 80. I’m guessing I was one of those deleted comments. Hopefully the way this is worded now meets the criteria for acceptable.

I don’t see anyone criticising “shomrim” as a group or singling out individial members for criticism. What people are saying is that putting on a shomrim jacket does not make you invincible or transform you into superman. Seichel must rule the day. Perhaps more training is necessary?

I remember as bachur in a yeshiva out of town, we were members of the local “civilian patrol”. Rule number 1 was stay in the car. Rule number 2 was make sure the doors were locked. Rule number 3 was call the cops when you finished with 1 and 2.

Perhaps it should also be mentioned that if you see a crime being committed call 911 first, not shomrim.

Lomed. Please start with reading comprehension.

I said nothing about the “pyschological reality” of girls, or boys. I was speaking about the reality that has become “the system”. I am taking issue with the system, not those who try to conform to the system.

“and the obvious reason we should attribute for the very high number of these girls being leftover in parallel to the much smaller pool of corresponding older boys, is naturally the scientific reason of the age gap factor”

Funny how science seems to ignore the ribbono shel olam once again. I guess that those who subscribe to this science must believe that when these girls were born, no Bas Kol was heard “Bas Ploni LiPloni”, they were simply skipped over, for whatever reason. Perhaps these scientists will still find the reason the Bas Kol ignored these girls.

in reply to: Musical Chairs and Shidduchim #694275

The last 5-6 posts basicly sum it all up. Some simply assume all older guys have issues, and are therefore excluded from the dating pool by default, while others just dont see what everyone else sees. Some exclude guys from the dating pool even when they are younger because of perceived issues such as gasp, the color of his shirt and others because, gasp, when they were 22 realized that sitting in a yeshiva all day was not productive for them and was not helping them grow as yidden in any way, while others might have been eliminated straight up because they wanted to attend college so that they could support their families one day.

AZ: In your last example, the 1000 girls WILL in fact remain without a partner precisely because the 1000 guys who have been labeled as “issues” have been eliminated.

The ribbono shel olam has prepared a shidduch for every male and female born. It is the fault of our society that we chose to eliminate a good number of males (females too, but to a lesser degree) due to our own decisions. If you want to find a shidduch for all your girls going round and round desperately trying to find a chair for their weary feet, bring more chairs into the auditorium. No, the chair may not have been manufactured by Rosh Yeshivas R Us, or by Best Bachur in the Yeshiva Inc, but they do come from solidly reliable manufacturers such as Lomdei Torah, Baale Middos and Yirah Shmayim LLC or Real Masmid (who is only second best in the chabura)Inc. For some reason, all the girls have been taught and all shadchanim have perpetuated the myth, that one may only purchase chairs from Rosh Yeshivas R Us and Best Bachur In the Yeshiva Inc., and while many girls manage to purchase chairs from their choice manufacturer, the supply is limited and while these choice chairs are constantly in production, supply is limited AND these girls who are going in circles suddenly find more girls added to the circle making hakafos with them and the cycle repeats itself, year after year after year. The myth of the exclusive manufacturer is perpetuated again, and again and again. Some girls grow weary of going in circles and move onto the other manufacturers, while others just go round and round and round. They do this despite seeing and hearing from their friends that the “other” manufcturers produce high quality furniture, so high quality, that many claim better than their original choices. However, these girls insist that going in circles waiting for that perfect chair, because someone drilled it into her head that these manufacturers are exclusives, all other poor quality. they end up going round and round, growing older and more tired. My proposed solution, is to explode the myth of the exclusive manufacturer.

AZ: I forgot, the purpose of this forum is for you to perpetuate the age gap myth. I will make sure not to write anything that explodes that myth.

Now. This may come as a surprise to you (it shouldnt if you would actually read what I wrote) but we actually agree. The way the system is set up today, there ARE to many players for the number of chairs. Here is where we differ. You believe it has to do with the age gap. I believe it is because of the warped system that has evolved in the last 15-20 years. To take your analogy one step further. Everybody wants to play on center court, not some outer side court, therefore all players push and shove their way into the main arena for a chance to play on center court. The problem is, not enough equipment for everyone to play at the same time, so the equipment keeps getting used (and some eventually is claimed and taken home by the players), while some potential players ssit on the sidelines and watch. We should either bring in enough equipment for all players to play at the same time, OR ask some players to play in the outer courts. Under our warped system, where every boy is the best in his yeshiva as long as he precisely fits a specific mold, all such equipment is brought onto the center court. All other equipment that doesnt precisely fir the mold is relegated to the outer courts, if that. All players, naturally want the best equipment and in fact have been indoctrinated that they must only use equipment that comes from a specific mold, so they all flock to center court where that equipment is located.

Since we reject way to much equipment from center court and invite any and all players to center court, we have a glut of players. There is plenty of equipment that nobody wants to use.

It is our warped mentality that has created this situation. Not hashem and the number of males and females he has born each year.

“1. support, “mishegos” etc. have a minimal if any impact on TOTAL number of shidduchim/participants who land chairs, simply who gets the chairs, same for a apushatayid’s comment.”

Really? Tell it to all those who have been relegated to the sidelines as spectators because their fathers couldnt pony up the cash or didnt go along with the latest “mishegos”. Pull these specatators off the sidelines and add them to the pool of available players and lets see what happens to our “crisis”. I am willing to bet that a good majority of those single girls in the recently published data are girls who were denied player status due to money or some other “mishegos”.

“2. However, this isn’t the thread where i’ll debate those points. If you have ideas for easing the numbers which you readily admit is a chunk of the problem we are all ears.”

All ears? Increase the number of players by easing or forgoing the entrance fee (demanding support and adherence to the latest mishegos) and you are well on your way.

“3. I don’t think any poster mentioned anywhere that it is “forbidden” to suggest a shidduch that isn’t close in age. The discussion is simply how to facilitate that far far more such shidduchim take place. Either by increasing chairs or decreasing participants”

Nobody has forbidden a shidduch except for you. You are advocating NOT redding shidduchim where boy is year or two older than girls! everyone else is advocating redding shidduchim that make sense, no matter what the age.

“4. and of course if you think/believe/have evidence of other contributing factors to the problem. BY ALL MEANS get to work and alleviate them. For whatever it counts I’ll be your biggest fan.”

The biggest problem is that people have invented a problem! Until people get over this infatuation with “age gap” we will always have a problem.
